(Old) Today in History - a pivotal moment in the MMP

Go goth black? Plaid shirt and jeans, grunge?

Err, meant “statin” rather than “steroid”.

Well, to be honest, yes.

Costly thy habit as thy purse can buy,
But not express’d in fancy; rich, not gaudy:
For the apparel oft proclaims the man;
And they in France of the best rank and station
Are most select and generous chief in that.

Evening all. Soccer has been coached, the boys are doing better,one of my DHM (Dribble-Happy Maniac) actually passed the ball twice during a scrimmage, for which I congratulated him. Then came home and have added some calories to my body, so doing OK. Temperature is down to 52F, heading to near-freezing, so hopefully the warmer air due next week will show up sooner than expected.

Coppertone, I used to use some plastic type stuff you stuck to the wall and blew on it with a hair dryer to tighten it up, don’t know if that is still around or not, been quite a few years since I needed it.

FCM, I’ve got 2-3 bags of stuff to go to Purple Heart on Tuesday, they always call a week ahead to set it up and always call the day before to remind me, so I just leave it at the driveway and they come get it. And I’m pretty successful in avoiding sweets…it’s the chips and cheeseballs that will do me in.

BBBoo, fascinating history about digging up old outdoor crappers.

Cookie, never heard of Indian Tacos before, hope they were good.

shoe, if no one is willing to buy the monitor, Best Buy tends to take things in, if you have one close enough. And I have had my share of Cheeto fingers, but not at a drive thru to the best of my memory.

Oopsie, glad you can relate so well with your nephew; mine are pretty much mysteries to me (to be fair, I’ve lived away from them for nearly 30 years and only see them on holidays). And the Indians, oops Guardians tried to lose it, but came back and made a series out of it. Hope you can get the install done by the owner, you deserve it.

swampy, that chocolate pie sounds so good…may have to travel someday down to Georgia (but not to steal a soul, of course).

As you wish.

flyboy, presume the shirts are your size, a rather macabre way to get them but they will be of use.

Nettie, sounds like you got everything in that you planned, along with a couple extra stops. I call that a successful mission.

No lifeguard and usually there are 2-3 other people swimming and others in the whirlpool (which they promise will be working my Monday) that often has several folks in it, but there are times I am the only person active in the pool area. It doesn’t worry me too much, the water is only 4-4.5 feet deep, so barring a stroke/heart attack I should be able to manage. And the main gym has a glass door connection and big windows to the outside.

And that’s all I wrote. Catch up with you tomorrow. Have a good night/morning.

Interesting. I wonder when indoor plumbing became the norm here. Our house was built ca 1890, but there’s only a few inches of soil atop the bedrock. Unfortunately, the library doesn’t have any maps of the town that far back. :frowning:

The best way to get payback is to whip up some cream for your slice of pie and make sure you don’t make enough for the spoiled brat to have another slice. (Yeah, I do talk big, don’t I? I’d have been whipping the cream before Hubs finished plating his pie.)

@Sticks_and_Scones I found the post.

Do remember that I was CDO before I started making cheese, it just got worse after that.

I like that one. I think I did it once, but had a flowered headband to hold the sheet in place.

The fuzzbutts get a few teaspoons of chicken juice.

I’ve lost count, is this five people or six?

I have a velvet ballroom gown and all the accessories. I wear it to the ball every 11/10. I should probably start walking around in it now because if I don’t it will look like I’m wearing a costume.

I was much happier with this years version. I got shot, went swimming and came home and made dinner. I had a small owie on my arm the next morning but none of the usual ICK. I hope you wake up feeling fine as well.

Oh, wait. Dachshund right? I forgot. Of course you need to be careful to keep the weight down to keep from hurting their long spine. I shouldn’t have doubted you!

I’ve never heard that before, but it is so right.

But what about the sharks or tentacles bursting out of the drain?!?!

My free gym has a fully enclosed pool. No windows on the walls or doors. When I’m alone in there I am alone. It’s a whole different world out here, nobody would ever have been allowed to be left alone in gym or pool in AZ just because of worries about people damaging things or getting hurt and suing.

Check with the County Recorders office. They are the ones who have the property records.

Nudist? Too scary… :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Just finished another lap blanket. I’ll take a pic tomorrow. Now it’s beddy-bye time. :sleeping:

I napped, with some interruptions. They did the leaf blowing today, somebody across the way got a new HVAC system put in, and at one point Spot ran into my room, yowled at me, yowled at The Thing That Lives In The Ceiling, and ran out. Now I’m up, having a Royal Hawaiian, and baked Bojangles chicken.

I’d just love to see the Christmas commercials staring the Coke Polar Bear, and the bear from Cocaine Bear.

I got a rock.

Hm, I can go as Hunter Biden!
Sorry

Happy Thorsday!

Sleepy day today.

It was a cold 32 degrees at the park this morning. We went later than usual, and we didn’t stay super long.

Rayleigh wouldn’t go with me to pick up my son from irk. I guess he knew where I’m going and chose to stay home. He had my son in a bit of a panic as he thought Rayleigh would be waiting by the garage door for us. Instead, not only did my son have to go inside to find him, he had to wake him up.
Rayleigh was excited to see my son, ran out to greet Echo and Misiu and totally ignored me.
I know how I rate, and I’ll remember that the next time he wants cuddles from me.

I once had a macabre way of getting a job. I replaced the man who died. His widow irked in the department next door. She was always very nasty to me. Then one day she walked up to me and apologized. She said every time she walked into the office and saw me where he used to be, she just hated me. Totally understandable. From what I heard from my co-workers, and I heard a lot, he was a really nice man and he and his wife had a very happy marriage.
I thought it was nice of her to apologize.
It always felt a little weird to take a dead man’s place.

FCM, one quick costume I heard of, when a co-worker’s kid told her the morning of the dress up in costume day that he needed a costume. She made her kid into a bag of trash. She cut holes in the bottom of a trash bag for his legs. She stuffed the bad with newspaper and other paper bags to fill it out. She added an empty cereal box, a rinsed out milk carton, and other ‘clean’ trash, to poke out through the loosely tied top.
Of course, if you have to pee it could be a problem.

Meh. Whenever I go to a thrift store (which is, admittedly, seldom) I think ‘Dead people’s stuff.’ I have a couple/few of my late-stepfather’s flight jackets, and a thing or two from dad. Also, I appreciate the macabre. (And yes, they fit.)

Polonius’ Advice to Laertes - Hamlet I, iii, 55-81

Yet here, Laertes! aboard, aboard, for shame!
The wind sits in the shoulder of your sail,
And you are stay’d for. There; my blessing with thee!
And these few precepts in thy memory
See thou character. Give thy thoughts no tongue,
Nor any unproportioned thought his act.
Be thou familiar, but by no means vulgar.
Those friends thou hast, and their adoption tried,
Grapple them to thy soul with hoops of steel;
But do not dull thy palm with entertainment
Of each new-hatch’d, unfledged comrade. Beware
Of entrance to a quarrel, but being in,
Bear’t that the opposed may beware of thee.
Give every man thy ear, but few thy voice;
Take each man’s censure, but reserve thy judgment.
Costly thy habit as thy purse can buy,
But not express’d in fancy; rich, not gaudy;
For the apparel oft proclaims the man,
And they in France of the best rank and station

Are of a most select and generous chief in that.
Neither a borrower nor a lender be;
For loan oft loses both itself and friend,
And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry.
This above all: to thine ownself be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.
Farewell: my blessing season this in thee!

Boo My family’s old farm house had a privy, but no-one would want to dig in there. It was in use until at least 1990. Grab the WWII era flashlight and make your way down the side of the barn, while dodging bats. There was a “dump” across the road that some people looked into and found a bunch of cool stuff. The stone on the corner of the house says 1853.

Whenever I go to the doc, my BP spikes. I got a cuff for home use, I average 125/85 at home, at the doc’s 150/100, been as high as “Let me try that again”. Apparently this is called “white coat fever.”

I need to locate my home BP meter, make sure it’s got fresh batteries, and actually start using the thing more. Yes, @BippityBoppityBoo and others may feel free to scold me for lapsing in attention to such matters. :slight_smile:

Actually it’s called “white coat hypertension”, a well known phenomenon.

And I’d never scold you~you’re doing well for yourself~you said ‘yes’ when they said “how about we check a couple of things while you’re here” and now you are following through a statin prescription and some blood pressure meds. I wish I had had more patients like you. Keep up the good work!

I had to smile at ‘white coat fever’-firstly because I have it, even though I rationally know that I can’t consciously control that and secondly because I think ‘white coat fever’ reminded me of ‘white line fever’, which I also have to be careful of myself on the rare occasions I drive long distances. I’m sure there are some country music lyrics in this somewhere.

Stuff, life, things. He for sure wanted to show off his little girl.

He always wanted to get married, and have kids. I was ambivalent about getting married again, and it was a HARD NO on the birthing (or raising) small people.

So we weren’t compatible for the long haul. But we have a similar sense of humor, and we know some of each other’s background shit in a way that lets us have each other’s backs.

It really was lovely to chat (almost two hours, for people who don’t really like being on the phone) and now it’s time for snacky-food, and a final smoke, and to get lotsa rest - and pack tomorrow lunch, I have a salad like some healthy bitch - so I can go into Long Night like a boss.

Not … not actually a boss. Please don’t talk to me about management shit.

OH and bringing Nutella so I can make some of my co-workers go :open_mouth: this should be fun.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 40 degrees Ferret Height outside, so the heat is on.

It never failed to amuse me that I had to shake the “guard dog” awake on a regular basis.

It should be avoided like a rabid, starving weasel.

they’ve changed the chili recipe a few times and the last change didn’t take at all so supposedly they’re going back to one of the more popular formulations… Speaking of chili did you know Wendy’s sells theirs in-store? it seems to go for almost as much as a large from the restaurant would …

ate the Wednesday Addams-themed purple whopper with the Morticia shake…not bad

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 9c/48f with a predicted high of 13c/56f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “It’s a great fucking day for naps. Followed by more fucking naps.” App is in full-on RDOS mode today!

Sounds fascinating, and definitely something a bunch of my academics would love! We have lots of history of plumbing, both good and bad, and some very well-preserved examples of life in the good old days: Back-to-Backs

That could have been very entertaining, not sure how the pub’s cat would have felt about it!

She doesn’t use a gavel, perhaps that’s where she’s going wrong. I should get her one and see if that works. Otherwise, it’s a waste of good cheese!

Talking of cheese, my favourite cheese company finally had their extra-vintage truckles back in stock. And a decent discount if you ordered six truckles. So I shall be receiving three of those, they’re aged 3.5yrs and laced with crunchy salt crystals for extra bite! I’ve also included one with garlic, rosemary and black pepper, one Mexican sweet chilli cheese, and one smoked cheese with bacon. They’re coming on Tuesday, hopefully they’ll last more than a day :slight_smile:

'im indoors had an interview for a job yesterday, it requires security clearance which he’s had before (but it’s lapsed) so he’d need to go through that process again. It’s an on-site job away from home so I’d get some serious alone time with the cats (yay!) and since he hasn’t worked in quite a while, I’m hoping he gets it. The recruiter didn’t seem put off by the lack of security clearance either so that’s a good thing.

Nothing much exciting in my day, I have a meeting with my new minion later and I’ve got a bunch of things lined up for her to do that will keep her busy for a while. It’s my turn to make dinner tonight so that will be some concoction involving chicken, leeks and red onions, and probably some garlic cream cheese. Then a busy weekend beckons!
