(Old) Today in History - a pivotal moment in the MMP

Thanks, swampy. The Huskers will need all the support we can get playing in Indiana. At least we are coming off a bye week so we had a week to rest and try buff some rough edges off our special teams. I’m trying to stay hopeful but I know it’ll be a slug fest and likely a nail-biter of a close game. It’s on at 11am my time. At 2:30 I’ll start checking on the N.C. Wolfpack. Your Dawgs! Are considerate and playing in prime time (6:30pm) so I can space my cheering out over most of my day. Hopefully between the 3 teams I’ll have lots of chances to jump up off the couch and triumphantly yell “touchdown!”.

For now, til Husker kickoff in 90 minutes I’m going to hone my RDOS skills and drink :coffee: and cuddle my :cat2: while reading da Dope plunked down on the couch in my jammies, resting up for a long day of :football: and a midafternoon start of grandmaing that will last until the last holdout grand kid finally falls asleep. Last night that was the 3 year old (!) at 10:03. Then I’ll slink out on my tiptoes and drive home to beg forgiveness from my cat overload. How dare I leave her bored and alone for 6 whole hours!

I don’t care about professional football, even less about college football, and a negative amount about high school football. I suppose if Tobias plays one day, I’ll have to be interested, but I’m hoping he’s more into chorus and drama than sports. I guess we’ll see.

My projection clock came yesterday and I just went thru the fiasco of setting it up. It’s too bright in the room to see if the projection will be reasonably visible, but the numbers on the clock itself are nice and big, so tonight will tell.

BTW, do you know how tough it is to find an old-school USB cable in one’s stash of old cables?? This clock couldn’t use USB-C, could it? No, of course not. Plus I had to find an extension cord and move FCD’s mega-heavy dresser away from the wall far enough to unplug the old clock and plug in the new one. So that was fun.

We’ll be leaving in about half an hour, then meeting the kids at OG in about an hour. The grands will be in costume. I hope they don’t order anything with red sauce…

Hook 'em!!! \m/

Wait.

So it’s Friday = high school, Saturday = college, and Sunday = NFL?

I hope they have fun! (… and that it’s at least tolerable for you.)

99% of our orders are to-go so that becomes someone else’s problem, where they can blame the dog or roll down the window.

Plus at work we have high-powered exhaust fans, so you can fart up a storm and nobody would notice (trust me, I’d know, I’ve - uh - tested this theory on numerous occasions).

1030 here, but otherwise … same.

I’m guessing it’s far more likely he’ll be into soccer if he’s into any sport at all. Seems like that’s the big sport for little kids now. Of my 3 kids my daughter was my jock. She ran cross-country every fall and long distance track and field in the spring all through middle school and high school. I made lots of brownies for after meets and hung thousands of locker signs over those years.

Morning, all! It’s currently 55°F and sunny, but we’re starting a bit of a warm spell: today’s high will be 73, tomorrow’s will be 75, Monday’s will be 78, Tuesday’s will be 80 (!), and Wednesday’s will be 77. Overnight lows will still be mostly in the 40s, though, so it’ll be one of those weeks when everything from mittens to flip-flops needs to be out of the closet and standing by. On Thursday the fall-like temps will finally return.

Dinner and live music with my friends last night was fun. The music was courtesy of a 16-piece big band…I love a big band! They’re a pretty casual group, but sounded great. One of my friends sang a couple of tunes with them during the first set, and he did well. I wound up leaving before the second set, though, because the lack of sleep from Thursday night was starting to hit me. I got home at a little after 9pm, changed into jammies, took care of the doggy, made some popcorn, and started watching the Yankees game at the top of the 4th inning. It was another crazy/unpredictable game, but at least last night we got the W. It’s a 7-game series, and now we’re ahead 3-1: one more win and we go to the big show! :crossed_fingers: :crossed_fingers: If we lose tonight, it just means there will be a game 6 in NYC on Monday.

I slept well last night but not long enough, and today I continue to feel sinus-y and congested and pretty “meh.” Every now and then I let out with a tiny little cough, and my throat is borderline sore. If this continues, I’ll take something. There is a high probability of afternoon nappage. I cancelled my mid-day personal training session, and – since now (a) I won’t be passing the grocery store on the way home from the gym and (b) I really don’t feel like leaving the house – I decided to place a Wegman’s/Instacart delivery order for bananas, today’s lunch (beef on weck), Gatorade Zero, and laundry detergent. I’m not usually lazy enough to have groceries delivered twice in one week, but blargh. It should get here right around noon.

After lunch, I’ll be assembling some Ikea furniture for the first time in 10+ years. I decided to get a small bookcase/side table for under my living room window, and ordered this a week ago. It was delivered yesterday. It should be just the right size, and I like that it’s kinda modern but not too modern. I’m sure putting it together will contribute to the need for a nap later!

LOL! A wildlife rotation wouldn’t surprise me at all. :joy:

“PO white trash”? I don’t get it…? :woman_shrugging:

Seconded…use a chocolate spread instead of Nutella and I’ll be all over one of those!!

Ugh, so frustrating for them. But there comes a time when you just have to accept that things aren’t going to work out and start figuring out what to do next/instead.

I’m the opposite. I always look for as much yellow as possible; a hint of green is fine. I tend to buy six at a time and will eat two a day – which is why I’m always needing to buy more – so I want them to be edible right away but not on the verge of only being suitable for banana bread. Six seems to be the magic number: more than that, and the last 1-2 tend to turn into baking fodder before I can get to them. I’d rather just buy them more often.

I know this was just a typo and you meant “pups,” but I got a good chuckle out of imagining a UPS guy dropping off a box and then waltzing into your house and chewing up some shoes!

Many of us here are RDOS and receive Social Security. Mine is deposited the 4th Wednesday of the month, which is next Wednesday. However, it’s already in my bank account. Anyone else get early payment?

@purplehorseshoe~looks like Michigan State is playing :football: nearby in East Lansing at 6:30pm today so you’ve probably gonna be slammed unmercifully. Can you hide in the cooler? Sneak a gummie in in your pocket? Sneak out to your car for a smoke break (smirk)?

I hope you have at least a chance to fit in a nap before hand and grab a good meal before you have to go in. Holding a good thought for yah :crossed_fingers:t2::crossed_fingers:t2::crossed_fingers:t2::crossed_fingers:t2:!

Croissant sandwich for breakfast, then did a 20 block walk.

We did a drive around Lake of the Isles yesterday, which is very close to us. The maple foliage is approaching peak. On the way there we happened to spot a cat outside with its owner. It was a dead ringer for our departed Q’itih tuxedo. Same bib and all. It was a bit of a gut wrench, to be honest. I suspect we will have a new cat overlord before the end of the year.

That also is the case in Tennessee and many other southern states.

NFL also gets dibs on Monday and Thursday.

Say it with a southern accent (in Yankee speak, poor white trash).

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, messing around in the studio and entertaining a small, reddish dog who’s in fetch mode.

Not much on the agenda today except picking up a prescription. I have a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for ribs, so I’ll likely pick some up from Kinfolk whilst I’m out.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

With a few anomalies like the legacy long time rivalry games on Black Friday between Iowa and Nebraska in college football, you and Missred have it right. Of course the NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl can spill over onto other days than Thursday, Monday or Sunday. NFL teams play 17 regular games in a season, but college teams only play 12 so the NFL has to fit more games in somehow and heaven knows TV and streaming networks are happy to do that money grab.

Nutella is a cocoa-based spread, combined with the ground hazelnuts. It’s chocolate predominantly but I’m not crazy about it either in spite of being a big chocolate fan. Too sweet, overpowers the chocolate. Just melt some good ol’ Hersheys and be done with it.

I suspect the PO on the white trash bag costume is calling out Piece Of (white) (trash).

Thank you! That’s very helpful info.

Those were pretty much already the plan.

One outta two ain’t bad, and I have a Cobb salad stashed in the walk-in, so lunch is sorted.

Those moments are usually unexpected, which makes them even more of a punch.

I suspect the gears of the Cat Distribution System are already turning.

Alright, time to toss a few chocolate covered coffee beans down my gullet, pull on clean socks, and go do this groovy thing again.

Somehow I got coffee bean socks out of this…

Today has gone by fast. MusicMan got home a couple of hours ago and we went out to lunch. Now I’m sitting contemplating if it is, in fact, naptime.

So they never switched the DELV and SNES to Door 49, so it was raining packages till 0845. Which put me behind, even through there wasn’t much to do on wrap up. Except the pallet of floor tiles that got sent from Greensboro to us for..reasons. And when I checked the LTL carrier website, it had been delivered a month ago. To Raleigh. So all 150lbs. got sent back to the vendor on their dime. A long day, but Hakuna MoMoney. And since it’s National Gin&Tonic Day, and my scurvy is flaring up, I’m having one.

I’d like that, so I can show up drunk and disheveled on assorted Mumper doorsteps.

Making some oatmeal/walnut/dried fruit cookies as I write this.

Ask and you shall receive…

T

WTH?

The url clearly says coffee bean socks and I got bacon and eggs?

Not that there’s anything wrong with bacon and eggs…

Second and last attempt:

Put some chocolate chips in there

That’s a different recipe in which I use chocolate discs. They’re very good, but I delude myself into believing that these are healthy.

Hey, youse. I was on a trip for a coupla weeks and the ship’s wifi couldn’t manage Discourse, so I just finished skimming eleventy billion MMP posts. Sorry not to respond to many not-so-mundane events except to say to FCM that I’m sorry about Higgs.

Remind me to send you my address. My kitty and I would enjoy visitors, especially one who knows how to whip up whiz bang cocktails and how to properly worship feline deities. Being a :football: fan is extra credit.
