Aw, hey there! And that is always a lovely feeling.
(Negative Nancy: “It won’t last.”)
Scritches for Junior, of course.

Back to semi normal, Surepost, then helping in Green 88. Plus dealing with a bunch of Surepost that had to be reprocessed because..reasons.
The English suffered defeat at the battle of Shallow Ford in 1780.
I get mistaken for Canadian all the time. So thanks, eh?
Watch out for the little old lady!
When Brian panted ROMANES EUNT DOMUS in giant letters in Jerusalem?
Yay! And welcome back!
[Oddball]You and your negative waves,[/Oddball]
Heaters draw a lot of amperage. While anything UL certified should be able to handle it, those cords still get pretty hot. Slow cookers are low wattage and not in the same category at all. I’m probably overly cautious, but better safe. Good for you to take proper precautions. Not everybody does. I would suggest that if your heater is that old, you should have someone replace the cord. Years of heating/cooling causes the insulation to break down.
Outside. The natural insulation of the building is still enough to keep the interior from getting uncomfortably cold, but that won’t last much longer. Luckily, we’re back on line as of today.
I did a dance when lager went into remission. I hope your furface has a good long remission run. Everyone is so much happier and less stressed.
I have been going to micheals during the shopping trips. This is very dangerous. There was a knitting kit in the clearance area. 14 dollars off! I started it this weekend. I don’t know if this is faster that needle knitting, but it is going well.
Its 50 for a high. Housing doesn’t think we need our heat on yet. I covered my 1 window, 10’ by 4’ with plastic but am still wearing my winter coat when not in bed.
58º Ferret Height, and raining. Mrs. L.A. is dressed and ready to go get the sarcoma excised from her hand. I had a grilled tuna & egg salad sandwich with cheese for breakfast.
Afternoon all. Have most of my windows open and it’s 62F outside so for the first time in months I’m wearing layers of clothing while indoors. Still, nice to get the whole house aired out and there is an abundance of sunshine, so a good day. Shopping and sammich have been procured and dealt with properly, and will head off to swimming here in a bit. No soccer practice until Thursday, but I procured a lighted field for then and Friday, so the boys should enjoy that. Have snacked too much this weekend and today, so the gym scale might be scary, but I’ve also worked out and kept busy during that time, so we’ll see.
JtC, it is a valiant effort by Hubs to avoid the inevitable.
FCM, I’m starting to use the treadmill more at the gym, up to 20 minutes at 3.2mph and a 6-degree elevation, still doing my pedaling but my now skinnier butt is hurting more after long shifts on the bike (at least that’s my excuse) so this is a good alternative. Still haven’t worked up the nerve to try the stair-climbing machines…
Sari, hope the accountant meeting went well, so far I’ve been able to keep things at the Turbo tax level. And I’d be frustrated too, our Recycle pickup is done under contract with the city, so we would just complain to the politicians… And is there any distinguishing marks the dog place can use to ID the boys better?
Cookie, glad the heat is on…and despite it’s noted safety precautions, I turn it off my space heater at night too.
Legend, enjoy the family visit.
Cupcakes, anytime I read of someone younger or the same age as me dying I get a little introspective…but then I remember I am going to live forever, or die trying.
Oopsie, sorry to hear about the distant connection passing, and Lady Liberty just doesn’t look the same without a face…
shoe, just read your pit post and…
That is disturbing. Were the guys locals you knew or just guys he might have hired?
Niner, welcome back and glad work has edged back a bit. And a happy-dance for Junior.
rocky, good wishes on the knitting.
Coppertone, you’re in N. Ohio IIRC; the heat most definitely should be on by now. Stay warm.
flyboy, best wishes for Mrs. LA…
And that’s 30 minutes of the day spent. Probably need to gather up the swimwear and head off to the gym. Excelsior!
The Hospice nurse has come and gone. The Dr did FaceTime with MIL and FCD - MIL is certified to remain in Hospice at least thru the end of the year.
Meanwhile, the temp is dropping and it’s rather windy outside. I expect before the week is up, we’ll dump our first bag of pellets into the stove. I’m thinking I shouldn’t have put on shorts this morning… brrrrrrrr
After a nearly interminable wait, I finally got thru to the appointment desk to cancel FCD’s dermatology follow-up. So he doesn’t have to show up 15 minutes early for a 7:40 appointment at an office 45 minutes away for a Dr to say “Yep, looks good…”
OK, back to my crocheting.
Probably family/friends. ><
D’oh! Forgot until I woke up that it’s Columbus/Indigenous Peoples Day, so no heat fixing until tomorrow. Misery does not love company, cookie, so I hope yours gets fixed pronto.
Thanks to those who said I’m kind. I don’t think that lady and her daughter would agree with you, though! And Taters, there were three other people on the bus, all sitting in the back. They must’ve heard her, but I think most people think it’s smarter to stay out of disputes.
I’ve probably told this before, but one time my Italian mama asked me why people wanted to call Columbus Day something else. I explained, and she wailed, “But not Columbus! He’s all we have!” I pointed out that two continents are named after an Italian, Amerigo Vespucci, but she was not consoled. (She accepted that Columbus was in most ways not an admirable man. She just loved the US so much, and I think Columbus Day made her feel like Italians were a part of the founding of it and worth celebrating.
B-b-but then it won’t have his lip prints on it! If it helps to have more in the boat, I got son’s reluctant eater dog to eat her kibble by pretending I was eating it. Perhaps your husband belongs to my chapter of MENSA (Mentally Eclectic Neurotic Smart Asses).
OOH! Maintenance Guy went into apartment across the hall! Maybe he’s working today and will be here next! Gotta go try to waylay him!
Happy Monday / Thanksgiving / Katy Manning’s Birthday*
Nothing special happening in Switzerland today. Went to work, did exercises, and now hubby’s watching Kaos while I catch up with you all.
Today’s low was 8°C/46°F, with a high of 16°C/61°F, but we had rain at the warmest part of the day. Definitely fall weather.
Very American (home plate face). It seems that the home plate shape is unique to home plate.
Tattoos? Hopefully the pups know their names.
Heart health is important. And CA in December is probably warmer than Minnesota. At least, I hope it is.
Are most of the fields lit? What happens if they don’t get a lighted field?
{{{FairyChats}}} Good that the doctor confirmed MIL’s continued hospice care.
@purplehorseshoe I’m staying out of the pit - I’m trusting your warning. Hope Monkey is driving you nuts for many, many years.
There’s a show called “Bad Monkey” and I wanted to see if there was a thread on the Dope. Seems that “bad monkey” leads to many MMP threads, in addition to threads about the actual show.
*Katy Manning, know for being a companion (Jo Grant) to Doctor Who (Jon Pertwee), is one of the few people I miss from quitting Twitter. Such a cheery person. I did not actually know today’s her birthday, but her name was the first one I recognized.
OK, one problem sort of resolved, but a weird, scary one cropped up. The maintenance guy is working today! Apparently he just forgot me and is way behind. Anyway, I saw him going into the place next door and snagged him. Sure enough, the thermostat hadn’t been programmed, but it supposedly won’t respond to changes for the desired temperature that are too close to the temp it’s already set at. Got me. He had to turn it way up for it to come on, but hopefully when the place warms up, I can figure it out.
And then I got a weird phone call. This woman knew my first name and said she met me at the post office yesterday and I was supposed to give her back something. I said I’m sorry, you must have the wrong number, as I was traveling yesterday and did not go to the post office. She insisted I did and described my hair and height, which was exactly right. I said again I was not at the post office and besides, it was Sunday. The PO was closed. She said something about the TTP would prove I was there. I said I wasn’t at the post office, period. Then she asked why I sounded so defensive. I said I wasn’t there, told her sternly not to call me again, and hung up.
This is freaking me out. Either someone who looks like me used my first name and phone number, or…well, I was going to say this woman is nuts, but nuts or not, she knows what I look like, my first name, and my phone number, and she got all that from someone. I checked my bank accounts yesterday, and everything looked fine. I’ll check again, but now I’m afraid to go for a walk. My first name isn’t so common she could just guess, and my hair is short, dark, and curly, and I am short.
Any guesses as to what’s going on or advice on what I should do?
She was in and out very quickly. The sturgeon took one slice, took it to another room to be tested, and came back and said he’d gotten it all. No stitches. Wifey, RN isn’t seeing any patients for a couple of days.
Until recently I didn’t know cats or dogs could require insulin. I don’t know how it is with administering it, but if you absolutely had to be away, could you board a pet with your veterinarian so they could give your baby it’s meds? Just curious.
What kind of cat is Junior? I have Atilla, shorthaired and yellow, who turned seventeen at the end of April. Also Mauser the dachshund, who is twelvish.
A fish did the medical work?
Sorry, I couldn’t resist.
Administering is pretty easy. I was able to find a reasonable selection of petsitters that I could hire to come by and inject him, but that’s a very expensive proposition and I am somewhere slightly above ‘shivering Dickensian waif’ on the personal wealth scale.
He’s a large white shorthaired marshmallow, about 10 years old, and the very best boy in the world (incontrovertible fact.)
Neither could I. This is MMP, after all.
I just talked with my neighbor and … oh, wowza, it’s worse.
I’ll wander over there after I scream into the void for a while.
This gave me a smile.
While I was running errands, I got a big smile (before coming home & talking with my neighbor) cuz I was accosted by a pair of friendly “are you registered to vote?” ladies.
We had a very pleasant chitty-chat (and I assured them, oh, boy, was I gonna vote!) and after we sorta gently reassured each other of where we stood, all neutrality was abruptly dropped and we were sharing jokes & memes (@JaneDoe42 I told them about your yard sign … one didn’t get it; one about died laughing immediately) and it was such a pleasant moment in the sunshine.
Forgot to mention, today is the exact fiftieth anniversay of Columbus Day 1974. I was at the Presidio of Monterey, we had the day off as it was a federal holiday. I went to the rec center to see what was going on and played chess with a guy I met there. Next July we were married. Not long after Columbus day 1979 we were not married…
…aaaand this song has been stuck in my head ever since I saw your post.
(But yay for warmth!!)
…
Woo hoo!
Not exactly “yay” news, but it seems like where she needs to be so in that regard I guess it’s good…?
Huh! TIL!
Weird show. I liked it, but I don’t think I could explain why if my life depended on it…
I totally get how it would freak you out, but my immediate thought is that your name and number wound up on a list and the woman totally guessed at your height and hairstyle. IOW, it was just a scam attempt. I mean, worst case she’s completely wrong and the target immediately hangs up, right? But if she guesses right, the person could be freaked out enough to not connect the dots you did (the PO being closed, not to mention that you weren’t there). She didn’t count on calling a not-so-nervous-nellie!! I don’t think you should be worried about leaving the house.
Awww.
