(Old) Today in History - a pivotal moment in the MMP

This morning I sent my property manager a follow-up about getting a new storm door: it’s been over a month since he said his brother (who does all of the maintenance) would contact me, and I told him that if I don’t hear from his brother by the end of the week I’ll assume that I have approval to order a new storm door and have it professionally installed. It can take a couple months for Home Depot or Lowe’s to do an installation, and I’d like to have the new one before winter hits.

I also attended one last election-related webinar, specifically for provisional ballot specialists. It was a mandatory recap of what’s new for the upcoming election. I got all of the example questions right during the webinar, even the tricky ones, but then my brain glitched and it took two tries to complete the easy 5-question quiz at the end. :woman_facepalming: Heh.

Work-wise, I attended a meeting, reviewed some graphics, quality checked and submitted our four monthly deliverables, uploaded/updated the associated records, and answered a few unrelated questions. And, thanks to Instacart, I just ate 1/2 a turkey and provolone sub from Wegman’s and some Pringles. Time for a break. My next meeting isn’t until 3:00, I have a 1:1 with my boss at 3:30, and then I have a personal training session at 5:30. I definitely have some work to do when I’m done with this post, but I’m hoping the next couple hours will be on the “reprieve” side.

Because of the aforementioned Instacart delivery I won’t need to go to the grocery store after the gym, which will be kind of nice since it gets dark so early these days. I should be back home before 7pm.

More like I am SUCH an enabler!

At first I wasn’t going to open the front door/raise the storm door pane this morning, because it was 44°F outside, but after I fed Bailey I realized she was waiting for it! She kept going by the front door and giving me meaningful looks, and I finally figured it out. I guess that’s been more of a routine than I realized! So, the house was a bit chilly again this morning…but at lunchtime Bailey settled down in her dog bed (next to me), so I closed the pane/door and turned the heat back on. I warned her that I won’t be able to keep doing that for much longer, because soon enough it will be way too cold outside. And, whenever I finally get a new storm door it won’t have a screen at the bottom – which, frankly, is why I waited until this morning to nag my property manager about it.

HAHAHAHahahaha! *snort*

Ahem.

I wouldn’t count on it. I’ve never known any management company or property manager to proactively change the locks when someone moves out. When I lived in apartments, I always hated having no idea who else might have keys to my door! I couldn’t afford to start changing the locks myself until I began living in townhouses; now it’s one of the first things I do whenever I move into a new place (always with the property manager’s awareness/permission, of course: so far everyone has given me the green light as long as I provide a set of the new keys).

Yay, indeed!

Awww. :blue_heart:

Yikes! :open_mouth:

And as I have managed to do nothing (outside of fixing soup and sammich for lunch) since my last posting, sloth that even swampy would be hard-pressed to equal, I am going to get dressed and head off to the gym when I finish this message…I hope. Did get a call from Purple Heart, next Tuesday they’ll pick up a lot of the clothes that are too large for me now, so that will tidy things up some.

Wet one, happy (and non-spicy) riding.

{{Sticky Buns}}. Any other options? And as for house cleaning, tis’ best that you never have cause to visit me… :scream: :scream: :scream:

Cookie, 25 minutes at a brisk pace should be about a mile and a quarter.

Coppertone, hope they get your roof fixed fast before the weather in N. Ohio gets really nasty.

Oopsie, hope they get on the ball and get that door done; will they reimburse you if you have to do it on your own?

OK, I really, really am going to get into my gym clothes and head over there. I really am!!

They said to run the heat to dry it out.

Howdy Y’all! Doc says I’m still alive. Go Me! OK, he didn’t actually say that, but did say things are lookin’ good re my general overall health. I accomplished errands, includin’ a trip to the likker sto’ as we were low on beerverages and malaria remedy. Then ‘twas back to da cave for an afternoon of sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’. We early supped and are now in chill mode.

Wheelie yay for irk bein’ less irky.

Taters hope the cold goes away soonest.

Sticky_Buns hope Annie is less itchy today. Might be worth mentionin’ about the cleanin’ stuff they missed. If they are goin’ to be house cleaners, they will need to pay more attention to detail.

Coppertone hope the leaky ceilin’ doesn’t do damage to your stuff. Hope it’s fixed soonest, as well.

MetalMouse that I would be the standard for sloth accomplishment makes me so proud!

I call this: Peas on Earth!

Hooray for healthy swampy!

Whelp, the phone fixin did not go well. Apparently, through no fault of mine, the insurance plan ran out in august. They are still working on it, but I am not hopeful.

It is remarkable how much we take these little devices for granted. When they stop working it suuucks. I feel oddly naked without it in my pocket.

Just tooooooooo cute!!!

Pot roast was good. Leftover in the fridge, dishes in the dishwasher, me about to go to my recliner. That’s it.

We retired folks (in my case a newbie :slightly_smiling_face:) all aspire to reach your level of RDOS!

Who else is hearing Twilight Zone music?

Oh, sorry, I should have guessed. Not that it is constant political ads all the time, my real calls are few and far between.

That was my thought too. I don’t’ have children and certainly am not an expert of any sort, but it seems to me that forcing a frightened child to do something isn’t a good way to make them suddenly love it.

Oh gosh, your poor meezer must be so sleep deprived with you being gone so long. How is the poor dear to nap properly without a lap?

I did ready your nice words about me in the last MMP. Thank you, they are appreciated. They are also a good reminder to start hiding things better, LOL!!!

Thank you! The bin not only went out, the bag of aluminum cans was gone in less than twenty minutes. It makes me happy to know that they won’t end up in a landfill.

Hurray indeed! We are also having leftovers, but I finally bought a mandoline so I’ll be trying to make chips as well. Hubs likes them when they are cut super thin and crispy, I have a good relationship with my knives but can’t slice that thin consistently.

Poor lil sweetie. I hope she feels better soon.

Do you have any pics of your offensive forks? I’ll bet they are funny AF.

Awwww. Congrats on the nice warehouse!

The TV is what gave me the Twilight Zone vibes. If the tenants have moved out, there aren’t any TV’s to watch.

Those ones with the exposed heating element are frankly terrifying and I would never have one in our home. I’m sure they have plenty of fail-safes and all now but my fear is too ingrained to change now.

 With my luck, it would have been crystalized.

I keep a list of things I want our cleaning person to pay attention to and give it to them when they come in. I’m the one who looks at our home, they just glance around and start doing routine cleaning. None of them have ever seemed offended by this and several have seemed happy to know up front what I wanted done.

Fuckers.

I just love my bedside clock. It projects the time up onto the ceiling in big numbers and it’s easy to glance up and see it, no matter what side you’re lying on. I don’t know if it comes in any colors other than red, though.

I have a big bag o’ huge mushrooms I just bought from a mushroom farm a few hours ago, and they’re going to be diced, sauteed with garlic, and heaped onto crostinis for dinner tonight. That and a salad will do for us, I think.

Imgur

This is not the greatest picture, but I think it’s kind of funny in retrospect as they’re sitting on top of my lap desk that says “good vibes only.”

I have the same clock, and yep, it’s also red.

ETA: Thank you, FCM!!

I’d guess that just like MIL, most of their other clients are always cold. Not to mention that if I had an always cold family member who passed away while in hospice, I don’t think that I would ever consider returning their lap blanket to the hospice.

You are a very nice person to do this for them.

Gotta love it, right? I’m glad you finally unlocked your thinker and got it done. Thanks for working the elections, we need folks like you.

Super cute!!!

Preach it. I can remember being happy with party lines, and now I can’t survive one day without my phone.

I hope things get worked out soon.

It was enough to make me chuckle.

I am super jealous now. I’ll bet really fresh mushrooms are amazing, and having a farm local would be fantastic.

We have been happy RDOS all day. It has been cold <50F and rainy all day. It was perfect weather to step out my door and stand outside until I feel the chill and then come in and say “BRRRR! It’s too cold out there! I need some hot chocolate and where’s the brandy?”

Swimming was much quieter today. There were some young children on the shallow side but they were having fun and all of their shouts were happy laughter.

Din has been et and kitchen has been cleaned. The chips did not turn out like I had hoped. I think they were too thin and I cooked them too hot.

I finally managed to pick out the curtains for my room (woven aqua, blue and gray fabric with a rubber feeling sound suppressing backing) and they arrived today. The curtains are too long so tomorrow I am going to go the the thrift store and buy some fabric that feels like the curtains to use while setting the tension on my very dusty sewing machine. I only use it to edge canvas, and I don’t want to chance ruining the curtains I agonized over because the tension is all over the place.

GG and Jolene were cuddled up in their crows nest when suddenly Jolene got offended and she kicked poor GG’s kitty butt out of the nest, then chased him out of the room and up on one of the shelving units in Hubs room. This has never happened before, screaming happened and black fur got pulled out. They got over it before I finished sweeping up, but it sure did get our hearts beating. We’ve checked Jolene’s belly, she has two sore spots still (no oozing, no blood, no sign of infection) so we think/hope that he just touched one of them wrong.

I approve of this strategy.

Don’t bet the farm on it. One of my neighbors caught the previous tenant in their apartment shortly after moving in. One of the reasons that I had the place rekeyed when I moved in and gave the management the new key.

Have you tried oatmeal shampoo? That gave Nelson a lot of relief when he had the itchies. If it’s localized, some Burt’s Bees nose & paw balm is very soothing.

:people_hugging:

I’m glad you’re feeling a bit better swampy.

I hope that your cat comes home soonest.

Boo! Hiss!

It was cold enough for a jacket when I left for irk this morning. When I got home, I turned the heat on and I’ll likely put the quilt on the bed tonight.

Not a whole lot else shakin’ at CasaRoja tonight.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Ariel was a controllable spicy red head. She is so cute. This afternoon it was 53 with 15 mph wind. A bit chilly but better than hot. Stopped at Panda Express for Beijing Beef. Another spicy dish!

OK, one mystery solved. I had a hard time getting to sleep last night. At 9 PM, Ms. Dog’s person, who knows the situation, texted me that there was a light on in the apartment above mine. She was spooked and asked if I wanted to spend the night at her place or borrow Ms. Dog. I said no, but it kept me up.

Finally I realized what must have happened. The maintenance guy only assumed nobody was living there because it was completely vacant. I realized that there might be people sort of camping there (but very tidily, since they left no blankets and no towels on the rack) while waiting for a pod or moving truck to arrive. I called the manager this morning, and she confirmed that it is, indeed rented. The other apartment up there hasn’t been, and I have zero idea why she put these folks above an occupied apartment instead of the unoccupied one. Anyway, Scooby-Doo can go back to chasing ghosts. (I almost said “real ghosts.”)

And no further word from the scammer, so that’s good. What a cruddy way to make a living. Her mother must be so proud.

It’s more like your brain was performing at Olympics gymnast level and then was told to do a somersault: it was TOO easy. In my fifth grade spelling bee, it came down to my friend Joan and me. We’d successfully made our way through the entire spelling book. (It was January.) For some reason, the teacher decided to continue by going back to the beginning of the speller. My word was “meant.” After spelling government and establishment, I blurted out, “M-E-N-T” and lost. Joan won and deservedly so.

I had students who did the same kind of thing. Your excellent brain didn’t glitch, misnomer; it just hadn’t slowed enough for a lower gear. And congrats on doing so well on the tough questions!

I had a tele-health appointment this morning. I would gladly give all this medical crap to someone with Munchausen’s. Oh, wait, maybe that’d be mean, since it might make their condition worse.

[Emily Litella] Never mind. [Emily Litella]

Oh! I forgot to say I got an amaryllis bulb when I visited my son. I love those plants! You can literally watch them grow. I’d come home from work, and in 11 hours, it would’ve grown 3 inches. So much fun!

I’m about to go for a walk with Ms. Dog and her person. Then Old Flame is supposed to call.

This made ME Hahaha snort. Actually, I think this place is pretty good about it. I know that after the last family up there broke their lease, management put some kind of extra lock on their doorknob to ensure they couldn’t gain entry before the locksmith could come.

swampy, glad those sinuses have cleared.

Congratulations! I’m so impressed you got to do that kind of clothes closet clean-out! (Try saying that three times fast.)

Well, @#!%&! and furthermore, *@#%! I’m sorry. Love the forks, though.

Maybe it was a radio? No music, so talk radio? Does anyone listen to the radio at home? (It didn’t sound like NPR.) OR…aha! It might have been a DVD on a player?

Shoot. Time to go, and I haven’t finished replying. More later, I hope.

Happy Toosday!

A chilly morning, I wore my coat.
No park though as my son irked a full shift. I expected him to get out early since the parking lot was practically empty when we got there. That usually means the day shift got out early, which they did. However, a lot of night shift didn’t show up.

I was lucky enough to get the spot right in fount of the accountant’s office. Extra nice because it is one and a half spots, so I could pull rght in.
The amount I have to pay hurts. Or rather, what my son has to pay.
Everything is done though.
I don’t think I have ever gone past Oct 15, Shoe

I think they take the harnesses of the dogs because teeth and nails can get caught in the buckles. My boys do know their own names, although usually if I call one, they all come running.
Up close, Misiu has a pink nose. Rayleigh’s nose is black. Misiu is apricot and is a solid color. Rayleigh is fawn and is cream colored under his belly and tail. Misiu’s tail is coiled and goes to the right. Rayleigh’s tail is a loose curve and goes to the left. They move differently. Rayleigh has longer legs and is perky. Misiu is heavier boned and cumbersome. Surprisingly, he is faster and more agile.
I get it though; at first glance they do look alike.
Barky/Humpy mom has no problem telling them apart. Petey dad remembers BM, Blue harness = Misiu.

I looked into renting a dumpster for all the cardboard. At $395 for the smallest one, I think we can drive to the dump. We could go to the dump 20+ times for that price.

I’m glad your sinuses are feeling better Swampy
Glad you are feeling better BooFae

Congrats on the weight loss, MetalMouse

Sorry, Sticky about the shots.
I used to used Bag Balm on my itchy dogs. It’s kind of messy though.
Mackie used to itch, but it was from his food, he couldn’t eat beef.

What an icky dream Taters.
I had one similar a few years ago. I dreamed I was at the doctor’s office. The doctor invited another doctor in and the second one said, it doesn’t matter what you do, you will be dead this time next year. That was two and a half years ago, so I guess I’m safe.
Very unnerving though, it was one of those dreams that feel real.

It feels so cold outside, but it’s 48 degrees, which really isn’t that cold.
A bunch of deer jumped out in front of me on the way home. A HUGE fox ran out in front of me this morning.
I feel like the sciatica is coming back. I haven’t been taking my suppliments and I swear they work. I take so many pills though, some days I feel like I’m going to gag if I take anymore.

Up from naptime, having a Manhattan, and watching hockey.

Usually they run fans and a dehumidifier.

:rage:

Too friggin’ adorable!

That is an absolutely true statement.

Those are awesome!

Do you ever post in the DIY hobbies thread that pops up now & then?

Yeah, Coppertone they are giving you the runaround. Not that you can do jack about it.

That seems like more than enough difference!

Thanks to all y’all for the kind words (and for digging up the animal cruelty laws!) both here & in the Pit. I appreciate everyone’s support for this neighbor nonsense.

I told S.M. what was going on so that, if worst comes to worst & I come into work really sad/pissed, at least I won’t hafta also give her the full backstory.

Monkeys, meanwhile, is getting ALL the treats and gooshy-fud. I need to find some wiggly interactive toys for him, to offset his boredom and cabin fever.

In the meantime, I’m thinking happy thoughts:

I have two (2) pumpkins to carve (and roast seeds OMG yay) … plus I had a coupla customers today (separately by at least an hour) who did a full-on happy wiggle dance when they reached for their pizzas - both were, uh, not young, they’ve each seen quite a few presidential administrations - but the sheer childlike joy on their faces really offset the horror of a coupla days ago.

Alright, having obtained kitty litter, I need to do the toss/replace task.

Man, if y’all knew how badly I wanna leave cat shit all over his yard … what, I’ve been keeping Monkey inside { innocent face } I have no idea how that could’ve happened!

It happened in other apartments. It stopped when we put our heat on.
Now I’m to get a mop to clean the ceiling and walls.
Dollar Tree tomorrow as I threw my old mop out last month.
Its warm so thats nice.

I found out from Old Flame–and what an unfortunate nickname that is today–that there is a HUGE fire—62,000 acres, 2 homes destroyed, massive evacuations–on the east Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming. When I did curriculum work for the state, we used to meet there: no TV, no internet, and cell phone service only under one particular lamppost = no interruptions or distractions. It’s part dude ranch and part working ranch. It’s a gorgeous place, people, and it’s been evacuated because the fire is breathing down their necks. I hope they got all the horses out–people, too, of course.

I saw my ghost neighbors when we were returning from the walk. They looked like something out of a magazine a tall, slim, blonde woman in a lovely dress and–I kid you not–6 inch heels; and a tall, slim, handsome dark-haired man in a suit and tie. Ms. Dog’s person, who’s an attorney for the state, was not impressed. Apparently they looked like new state employees who are too impressed with their positions. What do I know? I thought they looked sleek and professional–except for the shoes, which said, “I work nights.” I also admire anyone who can walk on stilts like that.

doggio, love the cartoon. And I’m with the critters: not a peas fan, definitely a peace fan.

shoe, I finally read the post. I would have cried except that I was too sickened. Surely that’s illegal. Even Wyoming wouldn’t tolerate that…stuff.

Ach. 8 p.m. and I haven’t made dinner yet. I’d better go eat. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll stay up-to–oh, wait, it’s shot day, plus I have to walk to the DMV (long, dull story).
