(Old) Top O' the Mundane To Ya- A St. Patrick's Day MMP

Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and put where it lives until it gets dirty again. Nappage and day drinkin’ also happened. Sup got fixed and et and the kitchen got cleanded up. Thus has it been in swampland today.

Thankfully my right knee can now bend quite a bit more. I’m a bit pissed, though, because no one at the doctor’s office ever called today.

I started a bit of new AI stuff today. It is quite tedious. Hopefully, though, if I keep with it, I’ll be able to jump into some other, more interesting, projects.

I think you’re explaining fine. Sorta like when we’re all late 20-something couples in a group then some start having kids. Their issues and obstacles and concerns are now not yours. And vice versa.

My interaction with younger still-working coworkers is now weird despite us being friends for decades doing the same job living the same weird reality.

Congrats on the almost-job!!!1@!!1!!!. You are way too talented not to land on your feet. Hooray!!

Google Photos

My boat is in it’s home. Still need to finish painting and set dressing, plus install the text panels. Was a friggin nightmare, their floor isn’t close to level. The tip of the bow is a full inch anna quarter off the floor. I had to do some creative j-bar and shim dances this morning.

sticky Glad the knee is doing better!

JtC Yup, sounds like forsythia to me. I really like putting out hummingbird feeders. They are so cool to watch. I’m looking for vinca plants, cuz they apparently attract hummies.

Have you considered some kind of raised bed garden? When my granddad got to the point where digging in the dirt on the ground was too much, he took an old row boat that had sprung a leak, cradled it between a couple of railroad ties, filled it with dirt and grew some tomatoes and flowers in it. No bending required.

Yay! Conga-rats!

One of them is a local to me.

The boat looks good VanGo!

Irk was irksome today. I was back in my usual spot and walked in to a missing mouse. My desk is set up with one task specific PC, one general PC, keyboard / mouse combo for each, scanner for each, label printer for both, hub for the task specific PC and, depending upon when it’s needed, a task specific laptop with another hub. The mouse for the general PC was gone. I contacted my leadership team, given the BS that the department next door has been pulling and dropped an IT ticket, so everything was well documented. My boss is escalating things with this info, so maybe the bad neighbor situation will get a little better.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Incredibly dull and boring is my life. I haven’t had a nap in a few days! Tomorrow’s weather is conducive to staying home so I plan on a nice doze.

I noticed that same thing myself. Its not that I liked my working friends less, its just that we stopped having as much in common as before. It also happened when my friends started having children.

Hubs retired four years before I did and that did put some stress on our marriage, mostly because I was still in full-time rush mode and he was in RDOS mode from the start.

I do believe that is just what they are and I’m fairly sure that I will have one growing in our yard by this time next year. If I can’t buy one, I can stop on the side of the road and take some cuttings and sprout my own.

I remember you having to fuss with management over them as well. Well, at least you got it done and your lovely Sadie is comfy, so all is good.

I’m pissed on your behalf. Jerks.

Good luck with the new job.

That looks great! Aren’t the prows (front end if I’m using the wrong word) of boats supposed to rise a little? I’d think it was planned. But dang about the floor, an inch and a half drop in what appears to be not that large of an area is not great. What’s under there…or is it no longer your circus?

I did have several raised beds at our last place along with dirt planted stuff. A couple of brick planters along the front walk would be nice and ours wouldn’t the the only home with a veggie garden in the front yard.

Hubs is the issue. He hates plants and really loved our desert landscaping in the place before that. Because he never goes outside, he didn’t notice that I had put a big veggie patch in the side yard until he had the trees cut down (yes, we did have words about that) and could see it from the bedroom window.

Now he’s going outside for whatever reason and would notice If I did that sort of thing all at once. This year I will have knee high containers and then next year I will see about acquiring some used railroad ties for a small raised bed in the back and so forth. I will get what I want, I always do, it is just a formal dance with both of us knowing all of the steps by heart.

It is a shame I can’t dig in the dirt though. The dirt here is so rich and wants to support plants, not like the caliche I fought for 30 years in AZ.

People who steal off other people or department’s desk deserve to be publicly flogged with yardsticks. Jerks.

I always appreciate living in boring times. Exciting times are often expensive, painful and/or inconvenient.

I was planning on waving my sign (stolen from a pic I saw online - a pic of trump and Does this ass make my country look small?) around tomorrow, but Hubs wants to do some road exploring and then go to the plant nursery in Logan so we will be doing that instead.

Check these folks’ channel out. They’re in your neighborhood and do a lot of cool rambling in WV and eastern KY. They document a lot with Find a Grave, do some historical stuff, especially about the Hatfield and McCoy feud (they’re some of Leo’s kin) and can be interesting. You may even run into them.

They work great from cuttings, provided you have decent soil (which we don’t) If I recall from my mom, it’s best early in the season when the branches are more green than brown - those root the best. Stick 'em in some good dirt and watch 'em go! Heck, where she lives, she’d prune them back, toss the cuttings into the woods, and they’d root themselves! My mom has the greenest thumb I know!

Any chance of disguising shims with “waves” cresting past the bow?

We’ve watched our 2 episodes of The Bay and I’m heading back to bed shortly. Tomorrow, I’m going to the Mart of Wal to talk to someone in their vision center. The options I see for my specs - pads for the nose piece, new frames that my lenses will fit in, or new glasses. I’m taking my prescription to see what a new pair would cost, sans insurance. I doubt I’ll want to spend much but we’ll see what they can tell me. But that fun is for tomorrow. Now it’s time to sleep! Well, after a few tablet games…

I cooked up the free fajitas, shredded some cheese, made avocado dip, got out the sour cream and the low-carb tortillas, and we have them for dinner. It was good. I’ll go back to that carniceria.

Up from naptime, having Redneck Stirfry and a Manhattan.

I played socccer in 2nd grade. I quit after a head to head collision, and after being knocked down and trampled by my own team.

Ape masks. “Look, Bright Eyes is waking up!”

< Weird Al dislikes this post >

At work, people put heavy duty bike locks on cardboard totes to prevent theft, so I feel ya.

Looks good.

That looks really good!

And a good evening to all. The plumbers will be here Thursday to ‘evaluate’ what the leak detector found, give me an estimate and schedule a time for repair. Burned off mucho calories and attended a referee’s soccer meeting (picked up a nice carrying bag for refereeing 1,200 minutes last fall). Finally made it home and have Mac-n-Cheese it for dinner, and now will internet for awhile and then on to bed.

Been about 3 posts this afternoon, let’s see what y’all have been talking about…

FCM, glad the boat cleaning is done, but I bet tomorrow won’t be a lot of fun for your back either.

Cookie, I need to pay some $ and stop at one of the many car washes in the area, don’t have a private place like yours and too lazy to do it in my driveway.

flyboy, I’ve had a couple of those ‘Cologuard’ (send them your poop) tests but probably need to be cleaned out and probed too, will ask my Doc about it when I have my annual checkup in late April.

Oopsie, sounds like good news is near, but counting…chickens…hatched and all that.

Nettie, good news on the astronauts, wonder if the re-introduction to gravity will affect them.

VanGo, may not be perfect, but it looks pretty neat to me. And why the name “Urger”? Did they forget the ‘B’?

red, hope the missing mouse re-surfaces for you.

wet one, happy impending nappage!

And that’s the late-night final from N. Ali-bama. Catch up with y’all on Hump Day so take care now.

According to some of what I saw on CNN, they’re facing about 45 days of rehab to deal with that and any other medical aspects of that long a stay in space.

That sounds so lovely! Even my black thumbs and I might be able to grow some prairie wildflowers in something like that (with a lot of neighborly advice and some visits to a local plant nursery).

“The Hillbilly Files”, right? I enjoy those too-a guilty late night pastime of mine. I sent JtC some links when I first heard she was moving there, the heart of their territory. I think she lives in the center of Hatfield/McCoy land. The videos are interesting full of local history and easy watching, I recommend them for mindless YouTube fun. “The Hillbilly Files”

Good, but that’s more for returning astronauts. The alien :alien: masks are for their proclivity for anal probes.

They’re looking for polyps. There was some comedy movie/TV series I saw a very long time ago, where a ‘doctor’ (Fake? Actor?) called them ‘pol-yips’. I wish I could remember where it came from.

My wife is pissed off.

I’ve mentioned before that she had been pretty much apolitical, and that the current administration has upset her so much that she’s written our Senators and Congressional Representative, and bought a Ukrainian flag that we’re flying outside of our house.

She’s a devout Christian, and she (we) have been attending a local Christian Fellowship church for almost a year. She shares Christian messages on her Facebook account, including posts from World Vision – which she’s been donating to for years. She said nobody in her church has ‘liked’ her World Vision shares. (World Vision is a Washington-based Christian charity that does a lot of good in the world; and which supports Ukraine.) She’s recently been invited to join the ‘in group’ for the church on Facebook. She said, ‘If they want transparency, then why do they have a private group?’ Me? Well, I had a secular upbringing. The Fellowship takes pains not to bring politics into the church. I suspect it’s a little left-leaning. The pastor has adopted children from Asia, one of the members has a Hindu wife (who doesn’t attend), and it supports missions in non-White countries around the world. But I get a little ‘cultish’ vibe. We went to dinner at someone’s house a couple of weeks ago. He’s a guitarist/singer in the church band, and his wife sings. When it came up that I ‘kind of’ play guitar, it was suggested that when I feel up to it I could play ‘worship music’. I mean, faith is all right, m’kay? But I can’t see worshipping God as the be-all, end-all of life. I like having fun. I like alcohol and good music. These people… They all seem really ‘ate up’ with their religion. I’d rather join an Episcopal church with its rules and ceremonies and pageantry. On Sundays. Leave the rest of the week for living the one life we have.

Anyway, I think the descent into fascism is taking a toll on The Missus. She can’t ignore what’s going on, and she’s disappointed that some other members of the Fellowship seem not to be aligned with Righteousness. [NB: While she was impressed by the church at one of my aunts’ Catholic funeral, I don’t think she would become an Episcopalian because I think she would object to the hierarchy.]

The thing took over for Sal, towing barges along the Erie Canal, so waves weren’t really an issue…to speed of about 4 MPH.

metal mouse I think the name came from what it did, urging the boats along. But I haven’t found any real evidence of that fact. It took over from Sal in ca 1924. I could get into more history and bore y’alls heads off. I’m, personally, hoping that the text signage (ugh, I hate that word) tells the whole story, but the museum is coming up with the verbiage.

Red I love the idea of the old row boat as a raised bed. There’s one up at my family’s old farm house that was dubiously lake-worthy when I was young, some 40 years ago, that would make a lovely garden. Even back then it was mostly made of caulk. The lake, for the most part, was all of maybe 10’ deep.

Plus Scotch and sherry.

Shoe: “Yay, early out! Short shift!”

arrives at work

“Oh, no.”

Just got home.

Swapped shifts so I hope I’m early-out on Thursday instead.

My dad’s got Covid, so my mom wants me to fly out. :upside_down_face:

Tomorrow is my Blessed Day Off, and I’ve decided I really wanna make chicken salad. Haven’t done it from scratch in ages so imma procure grapes & celery (there’s an apple in the fridge) and then play around with the dressing.

Anyone got their sure-fire chicken salad dressing recipe? … and GO!
