Top o' the Morning, A St. Patrick's Day MMP

So another stay at home St. Patrick’s Day for me(but I do have some Guinness and Tullamore Dew). Anybody else do anything special(pre pandemic)? Or just hijack this puppy, not like the mods are gonna beat you with a shillelagh.

Morning, mumpers! It’s bright and looks quite nice outside today. Weather app says “Oh, shut up and enjoy the fucking sunshine” and promises me 9C/48F up to 10C/50F and cloudy. Yes, I suppose it could go that way.

It’s another St Patrick’s Day at home for us too, nothing special happening out there. I will be celebrating it with a Rockfit hour-long Irish Special so that will be fun. I do love a fun bit of exercise, and this one suits me down to the ground - always great tunes and most of the routines are not that hard to follow. And since I do it at home, it doesn’t matter if I’m always on the wrong foot or facing the wrong way, nobody’s watching!

Today’s my day to get shot, appointment is booked for this afternoon and I’ve already been out to find the place where it all happens. I couldn’t book anywhere locally so I’m off to a methodist church about 6 miles from home. Took a while to find it, it’s not easily visible from the road and is right next to a pharmacy which confused me because the one tiny sign pointing to a vaccination centre was actually right outside the pharmacy. Anyway, I’m off there mid-afternoon which is a great excuse for logging out of work early.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 55 Amurrkin out and fair (as opposed to homely?) with a predicted high of 82 and possibly mostly N.O.S. this afternoon. I was a slugabed until almost seven-thirty. I blame it on DST. I shall go pick up scripts from the pharmacy this mornin’ and make a trip to :astonished: Wally*World :astonished: whilst out and about. We are startin’ back Men’s night over to the church house this evenin’. YAY! We shall have it outside and masks will be required except when eatin’. Anywho, I shall go over early (well, we shall go over early) to get baked N.O.T. and bizkits started. We shall also portion sallit into individual bowls rather than in a large bowl. Don’t know if that’s all necessary, but we shall. Steaks are marinatin’ and beer is a chillin’. Lookin’ forward to this!

Really not plannin’ anything for St. Patrick’s Day. My church is St. Patrick’s but we are not plannin’ on a celebration/get together yet. Hopefully at some point later this year we’ll be able to do so and we shall celebrate us then.

BooFae happy jab day!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, I suppose, bother of bother, I must purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire. How I suffer!

Happy Moanday Y’all!

I will observe St. Patrick’s Day at home, as I almost always do.

Twas a truly busy, busy weekend. I am tuckered out and regretting having not asked for today off from work. Oh well. Zoe passed out in the car seat on the way to her home. She was definitely coming down with something, so that may have contributed. I noted she was sniffly on Friday and by yesterday afternoon her nose was running. It’s late winter/early spring and she always comes down with something like this around then. I’ll check in with my daughter today to see how she’s doing.

Polar is happy to have his routine back and he literally sighed with relief upon the kids’ and grandkids’ departure yesterday evening. He was extra snuggly too. He got his coveted spot on the couch back and was very happy to sit next to me and snuggle.

I do not have any interesting plans today, other than work, and that’s not really interesting. I am not looking forward to logging in and seeing the hundreds of emails.

Still no word on when Mr. Taters or I can receive the The Jab(s), so we wait.

As my ethnicity is 100% Polish, I pretty much ignored March 17. My dad worked for a family-owned company with Irish roots, so he’d go to work in a blue suit with a red tie and
a badge that said “Thank God I’m Polish” - funny fellow. My sis used to work in an Irish pub in Baltimore, so this was a time of BIG TIPS for her. Beyond that, the day never really touched my family. And FCD’s people are of German and (I think) Scottish blood - they don’t really know themselves, nor do they care, and they don’t drink beer. So they didn’t care except for corned beef going on sale at the grocery.

Despite how exhausted I was yesterday, I still woke around 3:30 (new time) and didn’t doze off again till after 5, but I made it till 7, so I guess I got some sleep. I used up some of the leftover pancake batter for breakfast, so FCD and I have happy tummies. Plus I had mine with applesauce to sneak in a serving of fruit. But I think they taste better with sour cream.

When I finish my morning surf routine, I’m off to Lowe’s for bags of composted cow poop. I’ll also swing by Aldi for sour cream (gonna bake some 'nanner bread) and veggie straws and whatever else appeals. Once I dump the manure and the topsoil into the raised bed and I make sure Roxy’s sandbox is covered again, I’ll bake the bread and maybe push the vacuum around. I’ve got half a leftover baked chicken that needs to be picked and made into a meal - maybe chickie pot pie?

For now, tho, caffeination shall ensue.

Happy Moanday!!

Half-Irish but we never took St. Patrick’s Day as something special, so outside of attending a couple of parades in St. Louis, it’s not been a big deal to me (this is the Ides of March, however…). Huntsville being not heavily Irish or Catholic concentrates less on the Saint and more on the Drinking…

Rain and Tunder-Boomers are expected this afternoon so I will voyage forth in about an hour to do the necessary chores prior to that. Expect that soccer practice will be rained out, but we’ll see. Only getting to 68F today and the rain is expected to cool us down some.

OK, need to get brain in gear and get properly (or even improperly) dressed for the day. All y’all take care.

I’m here!

We’re not 100% sure, but it appears my ancestry includes some prominent Cromwell supporters, so I kinda keep quiet on St Patrick’s day…

It’s another boooring day of sitting in and hunting for irk on the computer today. It’s very pleasant springlike weather out there, but I’m not going to see more of it than I just did nipping to the shop.

Grats on the stabbing Boofae- I’m wondering if I’m going to be the last Mumper to get shot. They’re apparently estimating everyone in the Yoo Kay by mid June now- though the official target is end of July still- so we shall see. At least by the time I get round to it, most of my friends will be pretty much safe to hang round with.

AFAIK, my most of my ancestors came from England. Nevertheless, I love corned beef and cabbage (which, I understand, isn’t traditionally Irish in Ireland). So I procured a large hunka flesh and a globe of cabbage yesterday. Wednesday is a telecommuting day, so I can smell it cooking all day.

Howdy, Mumpers! I’ve been reading, just not posting, been busy with work and life.

I’m 100% German and when I was in Catholic grade school, our principal (Sister Nora, who was approximately 150% Irish) would get really mad if any kid showed up wearing any touch of orange on St. Patrick’s Day. I had no idea what that was about until years later.

My contribution to St. Patrick’s Day celebrations was to make corned beef, cabbage & mashed potatoes for dinner last night (which I really made because all of the parts were on sale and I like it), followed by a shamrock Smiley cookie from Eat 'n Park.

Good morning, Mumpers, and a politely chirruped greeting from both Monkey & Nikki as well.
The snow is all gone, even from the shady spots, and they seem to appreciate that.

I luuurves D.S.T. as I prefer having more light in the evening after irk.

There’s a massive amount of clutter around my chair (a.k.a. a “depression nest”) that I finally feel clear-headed enough to start addressing. The big bin made it to the curb yesterday, so I need to roll that back around & start re-filling it.

I’m also out of clean comfy undies & as there’s no point wearing a thong to work (still have on a parka, at least by late afternoon) I have got to address the laundry situation.

Plus, my schedule got shifted around and I work today plus the next couple of days, when I’d normally have off.

Not sure when I’ll fit all that in, but it keeps me from stewing in my own head, I guess.

Three hours till I clock in. Off we go.

Any relation to John Bradshaw?
The English certainly know how to apologize.

Yeah!! Just got off the phone with Huntsville Hospital, by first (Pfizer) jab is scheduled for Friday, with #2 due on 9 April. So the waiting is (almost) over.

Not that I know of. I’m distantly related to Cromwell by marriage. My direct ancestor’s second cousin (or possibly first cousin, once-removed – people seem to confuse the terms, and I don’t know which is correct here) was the Archbishop of Canterbury. One of Oliver Cromwell’s youngest sister’s daughters (Elizabeth French) married him.

I’m assuming that was supposed to be a reply to me, not Flyboy 'cos I’m egocentric like that- not John Bradshaw, but one of the regicides.

Dzień dobry pani! My wife is also Polish. I have the barest smidge of Irish, but have always just ignored the day.

Today we venture into an actual business to buy some garden products. First time in a very long time.

Morning, Mumpers! Another rainy day in SoCal. Should be the last of this storm, as the rest of the week looks like scattered clouds and warmer. The cold snap last week cost me every single one of the peppers I had transplanted to get a jump on the season. That’ll learn me. Don’t put in plants until Spring Break is a rule for a reason, dummy!

I have Irish in me from mom’s side, but they were all transplanted Scots in Ulster so I don’t think they count. Don’t like corned beef that much anyway. I always eat the potatoes and cabbage and leave the meat in the pot. Wednesday shall be celebrated at the local brewery since all of us are now vaccinated, Still socially-distanced from everybody else, of course. I wonder what Owen (the brewmaster) has on tap special for Wednesday? Whatever it is, it will be good.

Stay safe, dry and healthy this week, people.

I don’t know a lot of Polish, but I knew this! My mom tried to teach us when we were kids, but we weren’t interested. And by the time I was interested, I no longer lived at home and now all the native speakers in the family have died. Mom remembered enough that when she was in Poland a few years back, she was able to get along. The extent of the language in my life now is my granddaughter calls me Busi.

Much accomplished so far this morning. I got tickets to take the kid to the museum on Thurs and arranged her pickup with SIL. I stopped at Aldi for a few things, then returned the $$$ landscape cloth to Lowe’s and bought 8 bags of composted manure. Since being home, I’ve gotten out the ingredients for the 'nanner bread - gotta get the eggs and butter to room temp - I bolied 8 eggs, started the ice maker, and cleaned 2 quarts of strawberries. As it’s 11:30, I’m going to have some lunch, after which, I’ll bake the bread.

And when the bread is done, it’ll be warm enough to load the raised bed. It was quite windy and in the 30s when I was out this morning - brrrrrrrr! Suddenly, last week’s 70s seem like a cruel taunt. Oh well.

Off to forage for something lunch like.

I’m part Irish on my mother’s side. Only thing I’ve done for St Patrick’s Day in recent years is attend the corned beef & cabbage dinner at the SubVets clubhouse. Tom always cuts the meat at least an inch thick, and seconds have been available every time I’ve been there. The dinner was Saturday evening, but unfortunately, by the time I found out it was going to be held (ie, not cancelled because of covid) it was too late to get reservations. :frowning: So we’ll be ordering takeout on Wednesday from one of the local restaurants instead.

24F (wind chill 9) and fair; high 31, low 18 (which is an improvement; yesterday they were saying 16 for tonight). No sign of tulips yet, though the neighbours’ daffs are showing leaves. Spring will come eventually…
