WOOF!WOOF!WOOF! Y’all! My Dawgs et some gators along with their drinks at the WLOCP to the tune of 37-20. BBBoo sorry your Huskers didn’t win. doggio yay for the Wolfpack! All the makeage of foodstuffs got done, watched the installation of the new PB, and even managed to achieve nappage. Go Me! nellie today’s need to feed was done via forage. The installation of the new PB was a wondrous experience. It put me in a good mood, so much so that I was relatively good durin’ the game. OYKW said I behaved pretty good so no extra double sooper sekrete confession will be needed tomorrow. Maybe the three or so adult beverages helped some as well.
Depending on how well the plumbing is grounded (not nearly so reliable, these days, with metal water pipes giving way to plastic pipes), the condition that causes one could easily cause the other as well.
Spot is peeved that another being entered his sanctum, but otherwise things are turning to normal. apart from me not doing laundry today. Having a Vieux Carré.
It was a minor flood, as U-107 floods go, they only had one fan and a small dehumidifier.
Saturdays have always been boring to me.
Today I did my laundry, fed Moley ( one of the ferals around the building).
Tomorrow is church and football.
I wish there was a way to combine them.
For lunch I had Beddar Cheddars ( cheese inside sausage) and saurkraut.
Supper was a small salad.
Dagnabit! I meant to say earlier that I’m glad you’re OK, VanGo. I guess there’s no way to prove the earlier AAA guy messed up, is there? He probably still has the lug nuts in his pocket and has been too stoned to notice.
Yay, swampy, on your gator-chompin’ dawgs, and better luck next time to Boo and her cornhusking heroes.
That’s looking on the bright side.
hippie, those are gorgeous. I love the color combinations.
Oh, I’m so happy! I love the colors. Nelson probably didn’t care about the colors, so I hope he got in a lot of good sniffs.
MetalMouse, I’m sure you worked off those snacks. Will this weekend wrap up the season, or will that be next weekend?
I put my telly (unused) up on the closet shelf, a harder trick than I’d planned. I then laid down clear, rigid plastic sheets on the lowboy to put my recently-moved-in-from-the-balcony plants on there. I have a grow light on order because there’s not much sun by the lowboy, and I’m just not willing to clutter up my kitchen counter and have leaves elbowing in to see what I’m cooking. Laundry is done, but I need to start the very loud dishwasher.
He could, and he offered to, but I had places to go so I told him it was no big deal. And it wasn’t.
Just found out Trevor peed in the basement and Daughter didn’t spray it - just wiped it up. So I’ll be taking the carpet cleaner with the anti-urine detergent and running it over that section of carpet tomorrow. If I hadn’t asked about the towels in the laundry room, she wouldn’t have mentioned it. Dammit. So I have that to look forward to.
I did about 45 minutes on the bike, so that burned off some of the birthday meal. And now I think I’m ready for bed - I’ll reset the bedroom clock when I go back there. The rest can wait till morning. Stoopit time change.
Happy FCD Birthday!
I suppose telling FCD that he shouldn’t feel guilty isn’t going to work, but I think his feelings are normal for what he is going through.
My friend whose husband is dying called me a few nights ago. He gets so frustrated. Last night I dreamed he called me and said ‘he’s gone’. It was so real, but I haven’t heard anything today, so I’m sure it was just a dream.
I know when his husband passes, most of the husband’s family is going to turn on him and accuse him of not taking care of his husband. They already criticize, but when he told them that they are welcome to take over the care… We know how that goes.
Glad you are feeling better Swampy
How scary for you VanGo
The worst that ever happened to me was when the hood wasn’t fastened properly and it blew up while I was driving down the road. I managed to pull over without hitting anything.
And the time the car I was in caught on fire. Not my car. I was in the middle of the back seat, though. There was a moment of panic.
Sounds like a bad situation to me Doggio
I hope it gets fixed soon.
Very pretty Hippie
I hope the work isn’t too tiresome Nettie
I hope you feel better, Sticky
Interesting event at the park yesterday.
Three teens went into the small dog’s side. No dogs. just them. The man with the not so nice Pitbull came and he went on the small side. I guess he didn’t see the teens sitting in the pavilion. The pavilion is all the way in the back and has trees behind it, so it’s not so obvious if people are in there. The teens got up to leave and the man jumped up so fast to put a leash on his dog. Fortunately, the dog paid no attention to them.
I don’t know if the dog is as bad as he says it is, but I guess he isn’t taking any chances.
No park today as Petey dad wasn’t going. I didn’t feel up to it anyway. I had weird dreams all night that kept waking me.
I tried to watch a YouTuber that is relaxing, but he was staying at a Luxury Capsule Hotel. As nice it was, as soon as he went into the capsule, I couldn’t breathe anymore. I don’t know how anybody stays in one of those. It may have been a luxury capsule, but it was still a capsule.
MetalMouse, I think my dogs will be pretty upset if they see the cat. As long as it stays out front, the dogs may never know it’s there. I wish I knew who it belongs to. If it has a home, I’m not going to put food out. My fear is that it will run into the garage while I’m pulling in and I won’t notice it. After I close the garage door, I let the dogs out of the truck. If the cat is there, it will get chaotic, I’m sure. Hopefully the dogs will see the cat before I open the door and I’ll know for sure it’s in the garage. Getting it out of the garage might be an issue.
The neighbor’s on one side have a huge grey long haired cat, and the neighbor on the other side never lets his outside. There are no other houses close enough to me that I have any idea who lives there or what pets they have.
I hope to knock out more of the ToDo List.
Yesterday I managed to make two phone calls. While neither was that awful, I couldn’t handle another one. My head was hurting too bad.
The first one could only answer two of my three questions. I had to be put on a long hold while she researched one of them. The on hold music was had a lot of horns, which hurt my ears. I have to call my doctor for more information for the third question, and call them back. The second required two transfers to get me to the right department. They were very nice and helpful, but I felt really stupid because it was something I could have done myself without calling them.
I have six more calls I have to make. Well eight more, since I have to call my doctor and then call the insurance company back.
And three medical tests to schedule, but at least I can do those online.
Drying now, should be done Monday. Guy will pick up the fan and humidifier Tuesday, since he has to do it in 8 units Monday(including 2 in this building).
Thanks. Even though we lost we were scrappers til the end so at least it wasn’t embarrassing. UCLA should be embarrassed though, with three, count ‘em three penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct.
And thanks again. I watched it with a 3 yo and a 7 yo bouncing around d so I might have missed some nuance but not dismayed at our hopes for the season yet. I’m still basking in the glow of scaring the bejeebus out of #4 ranked Ohio State.
Agree. Which team is going to take their turn losing next week? Nebraska has a bye week as do the Badgers.
That’s not good. Hope everything gets fixed quick by the management and that none of your stuff got permanently damaged. And no wet footprints from Spot all over the place.
Hope it continues to be remarkable.
Somehow I keep ending up in Newark airport in September. So I don’t know if the memorial to the United flight 93 in Terminal C is permanent, or only there in September. It’s rather sobering.
@LH75 Beautiful work. I look forward to seeing the progress.
@The_Stainless_Steel_Rat Does your 5 guys have popcorn milkshakes? I had one yesterday, and enjoyed it, but I also like popcorn Jelly Belly jelly beans.
Hubby and I bought 2 dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts. We didn’t get any of the Ghostbuster doughnuts and they didn’t have any cake doughnuts (my favorite). I put 4 of the glazed in the freezer to see how that works out. If it goes well, maybe next time we’ll get 3 dozen.
Got most of the egg off the outside surfaces, but using a brush (we have colored concrete block, which has lots of delightful nooks and crannies for egg to get stuck in) ended up splattering the windows, so the windows need washing. I did some of them the other day before the sun came out. Now all the other windows look dirty. (Which they are, but at least they were all the same amount of dirty, so it wasn’t so bad.)
Today we’re going to go to the train museum as they finally got the Gotthard railway model back in position. I think the trains aren’t running yet, but it’ll still be interesting.
Friday I made stacked chicken enchiladas with (canned) green enchilada sauce. So lunch is leftovers. Good excuse for tequila, right?
My mother found new & interesting ways to be hateful while also sending me a really awesome care package (she wasn’t being nasty to me directly - it has to do with recent political stuff, and I’ll keep details outta here) and I brought that negativity to work and snapped at a coworker about something hypocritical she does that’s been bugging the everloving outta me.
I stand behind WHAT I said at work, but I very gently apologized to her later for HOW I said it. She graciously accepted the apology while also politely acknowledging that, yeah, I was being a bitch.
So … we cool there, I guess.
But the shit with my mother? Still can’t parse how someone who raised a small child (me) can simultaneously be so caring and so awful at the same time.
Moving on … One of my besties is dealing with an awful crisis involving sexual harassment at work, and Monkey disappeared for a day and a half, in the rain, over Halloween (and black cats don’t always fare well on that night) and OMG I can’t even put into words what it felt like when he came hurtling back to me.
Emotional support kitteh returned, covered in burrs and hungry (def not cheating on me with a neighbor) but he is so grounded.
Ah but wait, there’s more. There was an accident in the drive-thru yesterday (someone backed into the car behind them) and while that driver took off, the guy who got hit - who was understandably not in the best mood - decided to come AT S.M. who threatened to … and then did … call the cops.
(I have my own reasons to wanna not deal with LEO in any way.)
So that was fun.
In addition to the usual drunks and assholes (and drunken assholes) for a Friday night.
The drunks can be entertaining sometimes; hell, even the assholes can be.
It’s the combo that can be quite exhausting.
My manager is on edge already b.c. her mother had surgery and was kept in the horsepital for an unexpected extra day or so. She can’t be left alone so the whole roster got re-jiggered last minute so she can be off to stay home with her … except our sister location called in an S.O.S. yesterday because three people called out the same day, so we had some serious shuffling of personell.
Ah yes, and after Long Night I finally wound down around 5 am. Was awoken about 9 to chaos in the Rat Room - one of the tanks had escaped, and thank the gawds I had shut the door to that room so the chaos was contained.
Sat down on the throne in the small room (I’d just woken up, remember?) and realized there was some serious kerfluffling in the kitchen, and discovered Monkey was VERY interested in … a box of graham crackers.
He emerged with a mouse in his mouth. My first thought was, “Oh, crap, how did it get out here?” followed by, “Ah, good, that’s not one of mine,” followed by, “Oh, shit, now we have a new problem!”
Turns out, Monkey is a pretty good mouser.
So I went to work today on about three-four hours of sleep after dealing with two different species of rodents loose in my home (fun explaining that in a food business environment) and I also have some feelings about the upcoming election and what my mother said & at this point I really just need the merry-go-round to stop.
Oh, I do have a semi-funny.
Woman called in, bog-standard pizza order. I asked if she needed anything else, and got,
“Do you have anything chocolate?”
(Me, on little sleep and half a brain cell, forgetting we have chocolate milk sometimes) “Ummm …”
“Like cookies?”
(We ran outta chocolate chip cookies a week or so ago, and I couldn’t remember if we got any back in stock yet. But I can see salvation out of the corner of my eye …)
“We have … umm … brownies …?”
“YEAH, IMMA NEED A COUPLE OF THOSE.”
Jeebus. Okay. I ring her up, and put the ticket on the line, with the following warning:
“Okay, whoever hands out this order? Do NOT get between that woman and her brownies, sounds like she is. having. a. day.”
In her defense … same, lady, who really needed chocolate in her life. Same.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 11c/53f with a predicted high of 12c/54f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “People who like this weather don’t fucking know things. By the way, I’m one of those people and I don’t fucking know things.” You and me both, Weather App!
We’ve had Diwali followed by bonfire night, now there will be earth shatterin’ ka’booms from now until next year
Covering up the grey! I use Schwarzkopf Live - Ultra Violet on medium-brown hair so it comes out dark purple-ish. I’ve been through various colours from black to black/blonde/red, various shades of autumnal red, and some purples. These ones fade after a few weeks, and obviously the grey roots start showing pretty soon too but it does a good job.
One of us! One of us!
doggio I was surprised to find the fireworks display was on a Friday too, usually it’s Saturday (and the last few years it’s been over at the racecourse, so far enough away not to bother me). Saturday would have made more sense, but it would annoy far too many people as the park’s closed to everyone on the day while the fireworks guys are setting up.
hippie more beautiful work - and those colours are perfect together.
**{{{{{Sari}}}}})) just 'cos
Hope it didn’t drip into your cocktails, and Spot managed to keep his toes dry!
{{{{{shoe}}}}} sounds like you need 'em!
Nothing exciting going on over here today. Yesterday was busy for me, had a lot of things to do and didn’t really stop until about 5pm (when I had a short sofa break before feeding kitties and cleaning litter trays again). More fireworks last night until about 11pm so the cats weren’t too happy about that. Shadow spent a good part of the evening either on my lap or beside me on the sofa, Cherry was running around or hiding, and Blossom didn’t come out until there were treats being rattled.
I have no big plans for today, dinner will be leftovers from yesterday (cottage pie and veggies) so no real need to cook either. I’ve got a couple of t-shirts that need ironing, and I plan to have a nice long soak in the bath. Other than that, I have nothing on my horizon except enjoying the peace and spending a good deal of the afternoon slothing on the sofa with a book.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 62 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 82 and N.O.S. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I have chalice duty. There will also be Baptisms. After that ‘twill be brunch. Then back to da cave for nappage and RDOS inactivities.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.
{{{shoe}}} Welcome back! Glad Monkey made it back home ok.
I am up and preparing for breakfast. Today the handyman is coming to reinforce the servant’s staircase and he’ll be installing a door and new sink in the first floor bathroom. Annie will be heavily drugged for the traumatic event. And, most likely sitting on my lap even more than usual.
Here’s some TMI
Summary
What the hell is up with this perimenopause nonsense? I have had ridiculous cramps like those of my youth for the last couple days. Ugh. Can we just fast forward to the actual menopause stage???
How do y’all do that blurred writing thing in lieu of a “summary”?
No, today is it, I get to start about 9am and only am busy till 3:30pm…
So this is a quick missive, have just finished packing in some calories with bacon sammiches and a banana, hopefully that will get me through the rest of the soccer for the Fall. Another nice day, about 62F now and getting to 79F later, so will do a little sweating.
Now need to change, do a little shopping pre-games, and get ready for the kids. Catch up with y’all later.
He has a very strong guilt reflex. His brother who died needed a kidney and I know FCD felt guilty about not stepping up, even tho his brother brought it on himself by NEVER doing what his doctor said. He was diabetic and for decades he just ate what he wanted, never exercised, and never took his meds. You give a kidney to someone like that, well, you may as well flush it down the toilet.
He feels guilty about not being able to help his youngest brother - the one who tried to punch him and is currently in the psych ward of the hospital. Yet his brother doesn’t want help - he wants a nursemaid who will agree with everything he says and who doesn’t want to take his meds (do we see a pattern?)
So naturally he feels guilty about not being able to make his mother better. I tell him over and over that no one can make her better, and he knows that, but his instinct is to fix things. On top of that, he’s seeing a lot of what his dad went thru before he died. It’s a helluva burden and it breaks my heart…
Speaking of MIL, I got up to find her in the kitchen trying to shove a whole bagel into the toaster, She refuses to ask for help, but had she succeeded, I’m pretty sure there would have been a fire. Then I had to chase her out of the kitchen because she stood there feeling bad that she couldn’t do for herself (is guilt inherited?) but she was in my way. I got her drugged and fed and I think she went back to bed.
Ah, bed, how I miss thee! I over-caffeinated myself yesterday and I didn’t fall asleep till after 2 (new time) so I got maybe 3 hours of sleep. It’s gonna be a long day. Dammit.
Speaking of cats. the grey and white tuxedo stray (feral?) was lying on the mat in front of the door to FCD’s shop. I had a moment of panic that it had the same paralysis that the other grey and white stray had (I had to take it to the vet to be put down) but he/she/it eventually was gone, so I’m guessing the mat was a nice, warm place to relax, especially since there’s no Higgs to create a ruckus.
Really? That’s a thing? Just ugh…
Do you know about these? Daughter has the dog version for Trevor and it’s pretty amazing!
Not bragging, but amazingly, I have yet to see a grey hair - I got my hair genes from my dad. If you recall, my hair is to the lighter side of brown. Maybe a lighter shade of colored streaks might work… must think on it.
Haven’t made that in ages - must work it back on to the menu.
use “spoiler” as I learned earlier this week. And I wish I could sympathize more but having had to deal with instant menopause because of surgery when I was 35, I had different issues.
FCD, being a good son, is again going to suffer thru taking his mom to church. He told me the preacher gets political (guess he doesn’t believe in separation of church and state, except for the tax break.) And there are other things - I’m just glad they don’t ask me to go along. I’m guessing the last time I’ll be in church will be for my mom’s funeral, when that time comes. We’ll not get into why.
So while they’re gone, I’ll attack the area rug downstairs where Trevor peed. Not sure what else - I’ll figure it out as the day goes on. Maybe I’ll make FCD a birthday punkin pie.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. The usual morning cleaning and afternoon sloth and pro handegg on the agenda. Mental note: next flood put shampoo on the carpet before the water extraction guy gets here so I get a free carpet cleaning out of it.
“Not my circus, not my rodents”
But reading that, you need some brownies. Special brownies.
He has a surprisingly high tolerance for wet feet. New people? Not so much.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP / Sunday chores. I pre-baked some acorn squish for stuffing later today. Stuffed squish and fried cabbage are the menu for Sunday dinner.

I know that DST is controversial, but as long as it’s still a thing I’ll say that “falling back” is always my favorite: the extra hour is nice, but mostly if there’s gonna be a lot less daylight I’d definitely rather have more of in the mornings!
It was a brisk 40°F when I took Bailey out this morning: having a dog has taught me many things, including the value of wearing a hat/hood while standing outside in the cold (especially when there’s a breeze).
After the gym and grocery shopping yesterday, I gave you RDOSs a run for your money: I finally started reading my new book, achieved late-afternoon nappage (very unusual for me), and managed to binge-watch all 6 episodes of the new season of The Diplomat (on Netflix). Oh, and I disassembled my Lego jack-o’-lantern and put the pieces in a baggie so I can build it again next October.
(It’s been 3 weeks since I finished my last Lego set…I’m starting to get twitchy. I’m looking forward to the “bricks and brews” thing with my nephew in two weeks; the following weekend I’ll finally assemble the two small holiday candle sets I bought in early September.)
I have a ticket to see Matthew Broderick in a play this afternoon, but I’m gonna stay home instead…as, frankly, I could have predicted. The ticket was an impulse buy back in mid-September, but I should have known that (a) being out all afternoon the Sunday before Election Day + (b) spending the whole time alone + (c) not being interested in the show itself would wind up = not wanting to go. I thought about seeing if any of my FB friends might want my ticket, but instead I’ll give the people with the seats on either side of mine the gift of an empty chair.
I’ll do some music-related stuff this morning, then I have some work that will really be much easier to do today vs waiting until tomorrow, and whenever I’m done with that I’ll relocate to the couch and read some more. When it’s TV time, I’ll decide between new-to-me episodes of Scott’s Vacation House Rules (on Max) and resuming my binge re-watching of The Good Fight (on Paramount+).
I might be able to post tomorrow before I go help set up the polling place after work, but there’s a chance I won’t get to pop in again until after the election – and maybe not until Thursday, because on Wednesday I’ll probably be catching up at work and recovering from the long day. So, here’s hoping that Tuesday goes relatively smoothly for all voters and those of us helping the voters!
That actually made me laugh out loud…
If I lived closer to a branch I’d deposit a check that size in person, too!
OMG don’t apologize: that was awesome to read!!
I’m an “earth tones” kinda person: I really like all of those colors/patterns!
I’ve only ever lived with one person (romantically), and he was an OSU fan. I got into college football while we were together, and og help me 15 years later I still remember all of the chants/cheers…and can’t listen to “Hang On Sloopy” without mentally adding “o-h-i-o”!
