(Old) Trick-Mump Treat! - A Halloween MMP

It’s Halloween week and the last week of DST. Are you doing any trick or treat stuff, or are you gonna be like me and hide? In any case, hijack away!

Its national chocolate day!
No dressing up or candyin this Thurs.

With any luck I’ll be running the door at my daughter’s house, handing out treats, while the two parents take Sorenson (3) and Harriet (8) out trick or treating on their street. My porch light back at home will be off and the house dark. I have some light-up kitty cat ears and a lighted black cat necklace. Other that that, I’m going as a white-haired old grandma. Sorenson says I’m squishy (fat) and fluffy (my hair). Harriet adds that I am silly. I’ll take all of those. I’m going as a silly, squishy, fluffy crazy cat lady. And proud of it.

I’m working till close that night. Lights off, door locked, sorry trick or treater kids, Shoe gotta go make dat paper.

And dat pizza.

A kind Mumper sent me a bat-themed kerchief, so I’ll be wearing that.

I might go nutz and use black eyeliner to draw some whiskers on my cheeks and a black nose tip (same as mom did when I was, like, seven years old?) and call it good.

I have a complete costume for my son, a Smarties box (if you USA people are not familiar, this is similar to M’n’Ms)

In the back of my truck I have a half constructed pumpkin for my daughter. Need to complete the glue today, which is trivial. I have not worked out fully the hat/pumpkin stalk, but I think I can do it today.

I tried crunching some maths to generate the ideal pumpkin, even asked on the SMDB. Then I thought, fuckit, I am an artist, and I am winging it.

I don’t even have a tape messure, my daughter’s height was measured in how high she is on my chest, using counting my ribs. This somewhat old school approach will likely work, as my medium is foam, t-shirt material and glue/cable ties, so it is going to be like a large scale plush toy.

Softness is an asset, in this case. Even “soft” accuracy.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 12c/53f with a predicted high of 15c/58f, and cloudy. Weather app says “Stratus clouds are known for producing light rain or snow. They’re also fucking knobjockey twatfaces.” OK, so the app does not like stratus clouds!

It’s no longer BST over here, our clocks went back yesterday so Sunday morning’s indulgence was that extra hour in bed.

We rarely get trick or treat around here, largely because nobody’s got small kids. I’m happy to leave the lights off and the doors locked. I would buy a big tin of sweets for it but we’d end up eating them all ourselves instead!

We’ll wear masks and hand out candy.

I’ve been living here for 32 years. Never had a trick or treater. We are fairly remote.

We might watch a scary movie or something, but we go to bed early. Probably wouldn’t make it through the whole movie

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’ YAWN ‘Tis 60 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 80 and N.O.S. No big plans for the day. Thus high RDOS inactivities it shall be. Sup will be grilled chikin tenders, sallit, and cheesey garlic bread.

The lights will be off for candy night. We don’t get trick or treaters out here. Trunk or treat will be happenin’ over to the church house on Wednesday, but we won’t be there. Ain’t our thang.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then onward into the day! Rah

Happy Moanday Y’all!

We’ll have the lights out and won’t be handing out candy. I have the movie The Fly recorded and I may even summon up the courage to watch it. I remember seeing a few minutes of it many years ago and it was pretty grotesque. Well, if I can watch The Thing I guess I can tolerate The Fly.

Good morning Mumpers! 71F here with nothing but sunshine predicted for the foreseeable future.

I hate Halloween, but in the spirit of the thing (for the local kiddos) we’ll stock up on candy and leave the lights on. The number of trick-or-treaters has been declining over the years but we’ll pass out goodies to those who show up.

We just returned from a month of wandering around the 4-corner states and finished most of the unpacking. After 5 states and 10 different RV parks, we definitely noticed some changes since our last trip. It’s normal to visit with your “neighbors” in the parks, at least a hello and “where y’all headed next?” questions. On this trip, 100% of our neighbors were full-timers. Everyone we talked to was living in their RVs. I wonder if this is a reflection on the housing issues in the US, or just a weird series of coincidences. Their RVs ranged from high-end 45 foot coaches to small modified vans. It was a little depressing to watch a 70 year old couple living in a tiny (19 foot) camper.

Oh well… on a brighter note, it was great to see the western US again. We explored Route 66, ate at a restaurant with a separate menu for dogs (Lucy ordered bacon), off-roaded a lot in the Monument Valley/Navajo area, spent a week in Arches/Canyonlands, and tried a several mountain passes (including Monarch) with the new camper/truck combo. Everything worked great except for the camper catching on fire in Gunnison, just normal annoyances yanno :astonished:. (Our fancy fake fireplace decided to make a REAL fire one morning – I guess it envied its larger brethren).

Today and the rest of the week are just finishing laundry, relaxing on the couch, and some minor maintenance on the RV. I’ve already disassembled and removed the fake fireplace, and will rebuild that spot with shelves and cabinets. We decided we’d prefer extra storage there instead of a dubious and untrustworthy appliance.

Hope all have a good week! Traveling is fun, but it’s good to be home!

Starting out at 43 degrees. Its to go up to 60s. Tomorrow and Weds to be 75 so woo hoo.

T or T is 3 til 7 here. I am putting a sign over the doorbell “ I have COVID and will not be answering the door. Please take 2 pieces of candy from the pumpkin on the table.” Of course there will be a plastic pumpkin filled with candy on the table below the doorbell. I bought Snickers and Twix.

Lights out here. Our first year here we decorated and got a huge bowl of candy and not even 20 kids. After that, we always had a dog, which would complicate the door, so lights out. It’s just not worth the bother.

Last year, I helped Daughter take the spawn about, but this year she’s going with one of Roxy’s classmates and her mother. So I’ll just be vegging in the dark.

– interrupted there by the arrival of MIL’s nurse. She’s doing OK for 93.

scudsucker - I must ask, what is scud and under what circumstances might one be required to suck it? And, yes, this is an attempt to help inspire your Mumper nickname.

It was 37° this morning - brrrrrrr! Once it warms a bit, I need to go out and de-leaf the back porch and cut back the dead plants. I’ll also toss all the cushions on the furniture - squirrels have torn some apart and others have moss growing on them. I’ll make some measurements and shop for replacements. So that’s my big plans for today.

We’re waiting for Jessica to come for MIL’s shower - she’s having car troubles. So it’s a nice, boring morning.

We’ve noticed something similar with retirees on their boats - an awful lot of them cruise full-time. We used to dream of doing the same thing, once upon a time. But having lived aboard for a while, I don’t want to do it again. I like having the space and the convenience of a house. We’ll do some month-or-two cruising as our health allows, but, frankly, neither of us is up to permanent life on a boat. Well, maybe FCD thinks he is, but I know we’re not. In fact, I’ll be surprised if we still have a boat in 5 years. We shall see.

Back in olden days when I was a kid, as soon as we got home from school, we’d don our costumes and head to the outer reaches of our neighborhood. Then home for a quick supper, and out again when it was dark, begging at the closer-in houses. This was our neighborhood, so lots and lots of houses in a small area. Even if half didn’t give out candy (and most places did) you’d still have a huge haul! Good times…

I’ve been up and about for 3 hours and I’m finally getting to post here. Whew!

Happy Moanday!!

Good Moanday morning all. I stayed in bed until just past 8am, since I had a fairly busy 17 hour day Sunday I figured I earned it. Will head out shortly after this missive to get the usual Jersey Mike’s sammich for a Monday (#3 regular on white) and then plan on swimming this afternoon. 64F heading to 80F and still no rain to be seen.

I bought Tootsie Rolls, Kit Kats, and Nestle’s Crunch Bars for the 31st so I’ll have the lights on and be offering several items for the kids; hope they clean me out, I’ve already been munching on the Tootsie Rolls… But no costumes for me, just appearing as an old guy with a white beard.

Yanker, that sounds like a great trip, Never been to the Arches/Monument Valley area (or Glacier Park) and really need to do the West again before my old age creeps up any further. And…

:scream: :fire: Glad you’re fine.

FCM, trick or treat for me and my brother was after supper when it got dark, we usually did our street and a couple of others.

And time to dress and break my fast., Have a good week all.

I’ve been told there were not be any little monsters roaming the highway. i kinda expected that but have a bag of candy just in case. If it doesn’t get taken on the 31st, it can go to the polls on the 2nd.

I haven’t dealt with changing clocks for over half my life, I’m not sure how that’s going to work out.

How was the split in the before days? I know that folks in AZ were moving into their RV’s because they couldn’t afford housing, but haven’t seen much evidence of that out here. Of course, there isn’t much open public land out thisaway either.

Not much planned for the week, we will be going up north to have lunch with some of his cousins on Wednesday. Ronald has a swallowing issue (textures mostly) but gets along very well with my European Cream Cheese so I’ve got milk ripening as I type.

The cold is different here than in AZ. When it was 70F or colder in AZ, it was biting cold, here I just need a sweater. I’m sure a lot of it is due to the lack of wind, but it even feels warmer inside than it did when it was 70F in our old place. It is very unexpected, but very nice.

“Scud” is pseudonym for trational sorghum beer in Zimbabwe. The name came because of Gulf War 1, when Saddam Hussein was sending Scud missiles over the middle east. The brand name is “Chibuku” and they changed the packaging from paper composite 1l packs (like a milk bottle) to 2l plastic “drums” during the 1st Gulf War, hence the nickname “scud”

It is really an aquired taste. Fresh sorghum beer is smooth and creamy, albeit with lots of chewey pieces of sorghum. It smells like vomit, and it is still fermenting when you buy it. It resembles very liquid porrige. Fresh scud is around 3% alcohol, it tastes best at this point. It rapidly increases in alcoholic content, as it is sold still fermenting - the “scud” container is not sealed to allow carbon dioxide out. It peaks at around 6 to 8% (not that I have measured this) alchohol before the flavour becomes too bitter.

The coloquil Shona term “owawa” means “bitter” but implies it is time to share your beer, which is traditionally in a large communal cup, passed anticlockwise in a group of friends and strangers

Thanks for the info, but ugh! It’s not just that I don’t like beer, either. Just Ugh!

I think someone else can figure out a nickname as I sit here shuddering. Ugh!

:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Still waiting for Jessica and shower time - she had car trouble, so MIL is sleeping in her recliner. She won’t lie down on the couch because she might fall asleep. No, I don’t get it either. I think I’ll have lunch now.

Mrs W once worked for the company that made Bubble Tape and Big League Chew (before Wrigley bought them), along with lots of other goodies. Every Halloween they gave her a giant Hefty bag stuffed with full-sized product. The neighborhood kids loved trick-or-treating at our house!

Now we live in a gated 55-and-over community, so no more TorTers. It’s still difficult to not buy bags of candy though! :yum:

Like FCM, I grew up in a densely-populated suburban neighborhood. The unwritten rule was you don’t hit up the same house twice. We didn’t have to; we could be out as long as our parents would allow without doubling up. Usually had to stop home to empty our bags 2 or 3 different times. Great memories!

I did read the last couple MMP’s, though never quite caught up enough to participate. The job in Houston went well, though I felt it ended too abruptly. We could have used a couple more days to cross some T’s and dot some I’s. I offered to stay over to this week, but TBTB said nope, finish up Friday and get out.

Anyway, I now have three straight weeks at home, one of which will have my brothers and SIL visiting, so it’ll be a nice break. After that, two separate trips to Seattle will fill out the rest of the year. Like Shoe said, gotta make that paper!

Scudsucker- How about Sipper?
