(Old) Trying To Reason with Hurricane Season - A Hockey MMP

Mostly less chaotic heave. I started on the 100 Slide, then helpd on the 300 Slide, then up to the 200 Sort Table, because Nails and the Blueberry weren’t cutting it. Also, the one Air Driver had a shipment of Stanley Cup pucks and such. 60 Next Day Air packages, so that was about $10,400 work of just shipping.
A blue whale threw up on a fishing boat this morning. the entire boat crew was krilled.

Now you just have Troublesom Minion to deal with. [Ominous]Till next semester[/Ominous]

Ruble’s ghost is weeping tears of joy.

Nah. We’d take it as message from God to go and smite the usurpers from Sin City.

That’s why I try to limit how much I actually adult.

Quoting this simply because it’s a gem of a phrase.

I understood … very few of these words.

It took me a loooong time to wind down after work yesterday, so I forced myself to go the hell to bed once dawn was breaking (!!) so at 3 p.m. I’m just now waking up … with some impressive sheet lines, I might add.

S.M. (who is very much into makeup and skincare) gifted me a stick of eyeshadow last night, and y’all this stuff is amazing! Goes on so creamy-smooth.

I was like, “I’m used to eyeshadow being a powder pressed into a little tray, and you applied it with a tiny sponge onna stick!” and she just laughed at me. She didn’t say “bless your heart” but I’m fairly certain she was thinking it.

Alright, it’s nearly 3:30 p.m. Time for breakfast, I guess.

Evenin’ all.

Read, but brain is full and I’m getting an ‘Out of memory’ popup if I try recall anything.

Irk is getting incredibly frustrating- everything keeps breaking down, or not working properly. Today our shiny high performance computing system decided not to play ball, and there’s no updates for the coffee machine. In the last few weeks, both lab dishwashers have imploded, the printer has been going wonky and is regularly refusing to print, and everyone is rushed off their feet and either exhausted or grumpy and there doesn’t seem much prospect of things improving.

We have a severe rain warning and possibly thunderstorms later; I’m not convinced the thunder will happen close enough for me to see or hear it, but I’m hoping for some nice overnight heavy rain.

At least the plants are doing well, what with the warm and the wet lately- I already have tiny tomatoes forming and even the first chillies in the tunnel, which is amazingly early for here. They were sold as an early variety, they weren’t kidding! I reckon I’ll be getting summer squash and tomatillos as well soon. Anyone got good (vegetarian) tomatillo recipes? You can’t buy 'em fresh here, so I’ve never cooked with them, but the way the plants are growing, I may have a flood of the things.

Hey everyone, it looks like things just keep happening

Our day was fun/interesting/frustrating. Hubs likes Dunkin’s cold brew coffee so that was our first stop and they were out. OH NO!!!

OK, there’s an acceptable coffee shop halfway to Charleston and that was the plan until we hit heavy traffic because someone tried to drive too fast on the twisty-turnies so no cold brew for Hubs. (Yes we can make it at home, he doesn’t want to for whatever reason and we can still afford to buy it a couple of times a week.)

We made it to Discount tires one minute before our 1045 appointment and a couple of workers came out the door and into the almost empty parking lot, greeted us, took the keys and started inspecting the tires.

The waiting room was also pretty empty (two other people) so we got seats where Hubs could watch them work. Three young men just swarmed our car and we were out the door at 1110.

I’m sure it will get busier when folks know that they are here, but it was nice to have the place to ourselves except for the pesky/friendly office workers who wanted to be sure that we knew where the water, coffee, restrooms and magazine rack were. I think they were bored.

We had been planning on going to the good Asian buffet for lunch but Hubs suggested the great Mexican place an hour away. I agreed right away and already knew what I wanted.

We stopped at my dressmaker’s house next (is she a tailor? I don’t want to offend) so she could stand me on a box and pin up the hem on my new uniform with one of those caulk puffers on a ruler like Mom used to use.

There is a language barrier in WV Mexican places, my Spanglish is pretty worthless here, but this time it was really bad. Instead of getting Churo beans, Hubs got a plate of refried beans and a cheese quesadilla and instead of shrimp with assorted veggies, I got shrimp covered with red chili enchilada sauce. I tried a bite and it was not good and sent my food back for the first time in my life.

Once they brought the menus back and looked at what we were pointing at, they understood and we got the food we wanted, plus they comped my second margarita for the wait.

TC friend has started collecting milk glass so after we ate, we went across the street to the big consignment mall hoping to find a vase. I saw it as soon as we walked in, grabbed it and took it to the counter. “That was fast!” said the clerk at the counter and I honestly said that I had come in looking for that specific vase. The seller who happened to be there was amazed because people don’t usually want milk glass and had just brought it in to fill the shelf two days ago.

Imgur

This is Fenton glass and was made in Williamsburg, West Virginia between 1890 and 1970. I’m going to date it at between 1950 and 1970 because I’m becoming a bit of an expert on decorative glass and can feel the oval stamp with numbers on the base. If I could SEE the white on white numbers I would have more clues.

You can survive computer issues if there is enough coffee.

I LOVE tomatillos, they go in everything! When you have made enough salsa, you can move on to green chilis.

I do recognize that look.

I’ve used eyeliner pencils and they were great for being able to shape the color. I stopped using make-up a while back so haven’t seen the sticks.

I often get jealous about all of the fun make-up and hair dye folks use nowadays.

Hi Nellie, I’m glad to hear from you again and are happy that you can bend again.

I would type more but i have to go out and yell at Hubs. He’s starting the mower AGAIN!!! Damnit!!!

Received our wills in the mail today, nicely bound, indexed, etc. Separate envelopes for our physicians (living wills) and for our executers. They did a good job of it. Now we just have to deal with all the “stuff”. I would renew my eBay membership, but I really don’t want to have to do the hassle of packaging and mailing, etc. In fact, trying to sell any of it just seems exhausting.

I also became aware of artisan flour recently. It’s lower in gluten and reportedly has superior flavor and makes everything fluffier and tastier. It’s also quite expensive. Can’t wait to try it.

Can you make a rubbing with a crayon or pencil?

Ninja’d!

And cinnamon raisin oatmeal.

Labcorp amazes me - I had my blood drawn yesterday, and today I got an email with a link to my results. Plus they not only give numbers, but there’s an explanation of what each one means! I’m impressed!!

All of mine were in the green, except LDL - that was 102 - should be under 100. But my HDL was way high - 83 - so the total cholesterol was in the good range. I’m sure it’s all because I’m making an effort to eat well and avoid too many sweets (much as that pains me!!) And I’ve been much more physically active in the nice weather, both in the yard and on the boat. That’s all gotta help, right?

Supper was OK if a tad meh. Dishwasher is sloshing, ice make is making ice, and I’m about to assume the recliner position.

We got a delivery of “Fi-Bar” A somewhat rubber reenforced bark mulch, used for what the kids fall into in the park. The truck just sort of barfs it out the back end. After a day I think we’re through a half of it. I’s tired.

A dude is coming to put a new roof on my garage, and someone is coming to pump out the septic both on thursday. The bank account will be unhappy, but the house will like it.

It is “thrive” ™ brand, if anyone is interested.

My 3 Wonderskin eyeliner are amazing, too. Quite spendy, definitely no-budge, and I’m so gonna splurge for some ridiculous sparkly iridescent stuff soon.

Makeup has really come a long way since the dinosaur era late 80s/early 90s.

Sounds like me on a good day.

Oh, man, I miss really good green (verde) sauce. If you like cilantro, you’re in for a treat.

I’ve seen God’s Grandma with amazing rainbow hair, so go for it! (Find a reputable salon, and be prepared to $pend for it. But worth the results!)

What is so rare as a day in June? Today the weather is perfect. Ariel was soft. We had an excellent lesson followed by a quick shower then back in the pasture. I had fried chicken and corn onna cob for dinner.

I make a mean enchilada sauce with them. It would likely can well, but I freeze it in 2 cup packages. I use it on sweet potato-black bean enchiladas to answer nut’s question. At this point, I do it by memory, so I’d have to look up a link for you.

The podiatrist is sending me to a practice that has both an infectious disease doc and a foot doctor. Right now, i have a puppy pile going on on the love seat.

Howdy Y’all! Well, today turned out to be a sunny one, so after laundry got done and put away, the cee-mint pond called out to us. Oh well, I am a RDOS, so there’s always tomorrow for errands and stuff. Matter of fact it will be tomorrow as we have both decided that provisions will be procured early, then we will pick up the ‘scripts, deal with the errands and finish up by havin’ lunch at a good Mexican place we rarely go to, but will be near tomorrow. Sounds like a plan to me!

The only one I remember is Jesus saves, but Moses invests.

BooFae glad EDS has finished her exam and is gone. I am sure there was much rejoicin’. Hope all works out for the tickets and extra concert.

Mollie I know from experience one does not p.o. the Luteruns. Glad you’ll get a chance to visit with your sisters.

rocker glad you’re feelin’ better and had a good time at the expo. Conga rats on winnin’ bingo.

red I gather all has gone well with bein’ a dawg nanny.

nuts sorry irk is livin’ up to its name lately. Hope you get the rain. I like to just eat tomatillos by the handful. Tasty little boogers!

JtC it was nice of 'em to comp the margarita while you waited for the correct food. Hope the wait was worth it. The vase is purty!

MOOOOOOM I agree Labcorp got no flies on 'em. I always see my results within two days.

Evening all. Spent some time at the gym, tried not to concentrate on maximum calories burned and spent some time in the whirlpool and sauna to relax, so feel pretty good. Have been watching my snacking and keeping my intake reasonable, so we’ll see if that can be made into a regular habit. Beautiful day, still near 80F as the sun heads over the horizon in a bit.

And time to see what my Mumper compadres have been up too…

Taters, I can’t imagine myself working in a garden for 5 hours…hard to see me working at anything these days for 5 hours.

Mollie, lovely photos. Hooray for Spike, but 11-hour shifts will test his mettle. Enjoy the Pride Fest this weekend. And you must have a different Synod of Lutherans than my Brother/SIL belong too…very conservative, they are.

rocky, even with the cold, sounds like you’ve been having an active time.

I like raisins, even the small boxed ones, but usually only eat them in raisin bread and muffins.

FCM, doesn’t seem like 2 years since we heard about your seizure. So glad that you are doing well. And yeah, I usually have my lab results on the Doc’s website where I can download it within 36 hours. My LDL is 129, which is borderline so need to get it down but the HDL is 74 so that’s good.

Nut, is management aware of/taking action on the problems? (pause here to allow for sarcastic laughter).

JtC, glad your Discount Tire place met your expectations, as mine does here in Ali-bama. And at least the restaurant did right by you. And never heard of milk glass before, but it sure looks pretty.

Cookie, is donating the ‘stuff’ an option?

VanGo, do you have to shovel it from parking lot to site via wheelbarrow? That’s a fair amount of work there. Happy housework.

wet one, think you deserved a good day out, glad you had one.

red, my little toe is sending up signals that I might want to see a podiatrist too. Need to do some research.

And that’s all for now. Amtrak is arriving at LaPlata Missouri on Virtual Railfan so need to check that out.

I’m very glad you’ve fund a solution that works for you (most of the time)! At least it’s nothing physically wrong, just a question of managing your intake at the right time of day.

They really are, I’m willing to say. My recipe is not exactly the same as the one I linked to, but close enough. I do replace a cup of the bread flour with whole wheat flour, and that makes them a bit more toothsome. And of course, one must like raisins – which as has been demonstrated in the thread, not everyone does!

Nice to see you posting, Nellie. I’m sorry for your continuing eye issues but admire your stoicism in the face of so many ongoing problems with addressing them. I hope the contact solution lasts for a long while.

That is so true, red! I’ve had dog sitters come here before and it didn’t really help the pooch with his missing me. I’m very happy with the kennel where I board Ollie. They do his regular nail trims, so he knows the owners quite well and even has a favorite.

I’m so sorry for your left hand owies! I’ve done both the moves you describe with the avocado and grabbing a hot pan handle, though not at the same time. May you heal well and quickly!

Thanks, swampy. I do get it about the raisins. People either like 'em or they don’t. I make them just for me, though. They freeze well!

Yes, Ollie can be a farty dog. Odd, though. He gets exactly 4 peanuts a day, but there’s no rhyme or reason to the fartiness factor. I think it’s more the green beans and psyllium husk that gets him.

I wish I could improve his itchies with his diet, taters! But no; his allergies appear to be due to pollen and grasses. He takes Zenrelia for that, along with regular medicated baths to control yeast on his skin. The diet sure helped his anal glands, though.

I can’t wait to see pics of your garden – I remember some from last year, and your efforts result in a stupendous show!

Gorgeous sunrise pics, mollie! They gave me a smile.

I suffer with the farting (his, not mine), but it’s not worth my life. Ollie would slay dragons for those 4 peanuts every day.

I think our moms were related.

I have to say, I hate mowing, too. Every time I do it, I watch the wild orchids, fuchsias, daisies, iris, bleeding hearts and all other manner of flora pulverized into mulch by the cruel blades. But… it is necessary for wildfire control as well as noxious weeds.

We have a particularly awful weed, native to the PNW, called Mountain Sweet Cecily. Very misleading innocent name. Every plant makes quazzillions of seeds, each burred like arrows to penetrate deep into anything they can, whether knit clothing or a dog’s busy nose. They only go one way: Deeper in. You can pull them out the other side, but not back out in the direction they penetrated. For Ollie’s sake I mow, and I try to take comfort that most of the aforementioned wildflowers remain abundant on much of my place. But I get your frustration with Hub’s preoccupation with his mower!

Sounds like your day was quite the mixed bag of good and bad. Hope tomorrow is better!

cookie, sounds like you’re fixin’ to make biscuits. Hope it goes well!

Today was for sorting out bill payments, having a good yap with a friend on the phone, more weeding, rollicking outside with Ollie before it got too hot and baking cookies. I’ve got a favorite recipe that uses up bananas that are so far gone you’d hesitate to use them in banana bread. They’re comparatively healthful with lots of oats, but also chock full of goodies like chocolate chips and pecans (pee-kaahhns?). You mix the batter with a fork in about 5 minutes. My kinda recipe!

We’re having hot (for here) weather that just hit 87F. Looking forward to tomorrow’s high of 66F and cloudy.

That’s enough for today.

I’m here and dog-freeeee! Actually, Charlie Dog is out of town for two weeks  , but I’m walking little Max every day, and I also dog sat for him most of today.

My right eye apparently didn’t like my plan and has conspired with the contact lens to tell me so. Party pooper. I’m OK, though. It’s not that bad.

Meanwhile, my son has completely lost his voice. The pulmonologist put him back on the Devil’s Drug (prednisone) and wants a chest x-ray. I really hope the tides turn soon.

All that sounds like my mood is drizzly, but actually, I’m pretty happy. It’s so nice to be able to walk without having to give myself pep talks.

I know that’s good, but I keep thinking how much fun it would be to say ordinary things like “I’d like to make a deposit” or “Please pass the Jello” in Barry White’s voice. Hope the cough disappears soon.

I think that’s true of big dogs, too. The bigger the dog, the bigger the the effluvium. The little fellers’ output might be more concentrated.

FCM, I’d have been nervous, too. I hope you get good news tomorrow! Do the meds have unpleasant side effects?

JtC, I’m glad they at least comped your second margarita.

“Look, kids! The playground is now in the parking lot!”

I understand he’s been looking for her.

It does. My son and his wife had a bumper crop two years ago and canned a mess of it.

All my makeup used to be in stick form until the day I was in a rush and decided to put on my foundation stick and blush stick en route to work. I didn’t use the mirror because I needed to keep both eyes on the road. You can guess the results. Anyway, nice gift!

Oh, sure, everyone likes them when they’re young, plump grapes, but as soon as they get wrinkly, they’re fructus non grata, eschewed unchewed.

She’d still be more popular than the dentist in my old town who gave out toothbrushes.

Doggio, thanks for answering my question. I have more, but you probably get sick of shop talk.

Oops! The Instacart arriveth.

nellie - my seizure meds don’t have any side effects that I’ve noticed. I just don’t like having to take meds. And I worry about any effects if I no longer need them but keep taking them. That’s what I intend to address tomorrow.

My latest BritBox fare is Cranford. It’s not great, but it’s not awful, and it’s got Judi Dench, so there’s that. What I find interesting is the number of actors in it who I’ve seen in similar shows taking place in the 19th century. Makes me wonder if it’s type casting or they just like those scripts… or a job’s a job…

Oh, and I heard this the other day on SiriusXM - talk about a blast from the past!!! (Not responsible for unwanted earworms.)

I napped. Spot crawled under the covers and napped with me for a bit. Now I’m watching the Stanley Cup Finals.

S.M., internally: “She’s awfully young to sound like my grandmother.”

Sounds like my building. My condolences.

Salsa Verde
I do the oven roast method.

Unlike the car, you can’t just crank up the AC/DC on the radio when the septic tank starts making weird noises.

Ask away, we’re here to fight ignorance here(it is taking long than we thought)

ARGH!!! I got kicked out of the pit due to complaining about the annual mystery needlepoint class, please don’t kick me out of here too.

Every year I sign up for a mystery needlepoint class. We have NO idea what it will look like when finished and have to pick our colors in advance. When the class starts in the middle of February, we get a stitch guide for a sixth of the piece and then we get another lesson once a month.

Well…this year the trump tariffs has really fucked up the needlepoint and embroidery world so the threads were hard to find. I got my threads a couple of months ago, but I didn’t pick the favorite colors.

Today I got a call scheduling my shoulder surgery work-ups starting on the 12th.

Today I got the email telling me that my first class will be on the 11th and my surgery will happen before the second lesson so I’ll be six weeks without stitching and will get so far behind :frowning:

Yes, I can watch the classes, but then I will want/need to hold a needle and try to do the stitches. This really sucks.

I used to have an online “boyfriend” who was married to a dentist. She would hand out little tubes of toothpaste every Halloween and he would spend the next week cleaning all of the toothpaste off their house and cars. He once scheduled a work trip for the week of Halloween and says that sundried toothpaste takes a powerwasher to clean up.

I wouldn’t have ordered it if I wasn’t sitting for so long. I deserved it, those red chili covered shrimp were vile.

ICE has been terrorizing the big (?) cities nowadays, I’m fairly sure that our usual waiter is sitting in a concentration camp in Arizona now.

That doesn’t sound that great, I hope a fix is found soon!

Those sound like what we called Foxtails and they were horrible. Dogs would get them in the hair between their toes or in their ears and it was pretty horrible.

We had to have several rescue cats shaved down while they were getting TNR because of the damned foxtails.

I did pay someone to wack the weeds down if they got too bad, but also used a lot of vinegar/bleach to kill the weeds close to the house.

Its different here, Harry is fighting off the forest and we don’t even have a tree in our yard. Yet.

If you have a few minutes, look it up. It is an interesting part of 'merikan history. I’m not a big fan of pebbled milk glass, it seems like it would need too much dusting/washing but it was very popular back when your grandmother was putting fruit bowls on the dining room table.

Enjoy the pupper pile and I do hope that the practice will find the perfect doctor for you that won’t think you need another toe cut off.

I do think about it at times…but I wear hats and keep my hair very short.

I loved tramp stamps back in the day. The only reason I didn’t get one was because I didn’t want to wear my pants that low. Skin would see sun and that just Was Not Done. Fashion is weird and I am even weirder!

Did any of you jump into the pile, just because you could?

Will Ms Peach lose her mind over the noise? We had the roof done on our last place and it took the fuzzbutts a few days to stop flinching anytime they heard a leaf fall on the roof.

I tried but we don’t have any thin, cheap notebook paper or crayons. All I got was the oval and round shapes. It would be fun to know more, but I think TC friend will have fun finding out the rest of the provenance herself.

nellie would be jealous.
