First! It’s good to be in juvie juvenile. I have an appointment with the retinal specialist this week. It’s just a checkup. I saw the corneal doc recently, so this should conclude Chapter 84 of the Eyes Have It by Iris Sclera.
I have one more Christmas gift to mail, and then I’m done. Of course, I thought I was done yesterday… I gave Ms. Dog her present last Friday. It was a dog puzzle toy: they push little sliders and open little doors to get at tiny bits of kibble. I thought it would keep her occupied, and it did, for about 30 seconds, by which time she’d found all the kibble and looked like a Mensa member who’d just finished playing Chutes and Ladders (Snakes and Ladders to you, BooFae.)
I have no solution to my problem, but I’ve had phone calls from very supportive friends, Old Flame, and of course, all of you have been extremely kind. One old friend actually lives in my city and, sad to say, is in the same boat: no car, big rent increase, wants to move. However, her aged father lives with her, and he insisted on renewing the lease, so she’s there for another year.
Right now I’m leaning toward staying in this area. If necessary, I can put all my stuff in storage, go to Chicago to help my brother post-op, and then return here and look some more. I could stay with a friend if need be. I have some leads on possible jobs, too. It feels odd to be considering going back to work, but I’ve thought about it, and that’s what my parents would have done–not that they’d have been in my situation.
My daughter offered to come out to help me pack up over a weekend. During poorer days, she worked packing for a moving company, so she’d be a real boon. This will be my 18th move. Ugh.
I haven’t caught up on the old MMP, but I see I missed JtC’s birthday. I’m so sorry. I hope it was happy! You’re my favorite superhero.
OK, next!
