(Old) Tying up loose ends in the MMP

I’m fifty-nine years old. For most of my adult life I’ve been in half-decent shape if always slightly overweight. At my heaviest (after the freshmen thirty kicked in) I was about 210lbs - I’m 5’ 8" - so I was pretty porky. I never got back to my trim 155lb that I was as an athlete in high school but I managed to keep myself around a reasonable 180 to 190 for the last thirty years. Earlier this year, for various reasons, I sold my car. I live in a city so most everything I need is within walking or mass transit reach so I walk a lot. I also have a big dog who loves to go to the dog park that’s five blocks away. So, I mean, I walk a lot. About two months ago I started a job at doggy daycare/boarding which requires me to be on my feet for six hour shifts wrangling dogs (I had to break up a fight between a pit-bull and a rottweiler once). I’ve been getting a ton of exercise this year - and now I’m on the tail end of the flu which saw me consume one meal that stayed down in the last four days. I probably dropped five pounds last week alone.

What I’m trying to say is, goddamn, I look good right now. This is the first time in decades I don’t mind looking at myself in the mirror.

Presumably he hasn’t been flying long-range missions over New Jersey…

Must be nice. I’m taking six, for a total of nine or ten pills depending on what day it is.

Well, it looks like the Rogue is destined for the junk yard. SIL and FCD are scrolling in car gurus. We’ll probably use some of our inheritance to buy them a vehicle and they’ll make payments to us rather than get an exorbitant loan rate. So the fun begins.

The bed is back upstairs and I’ve put the sheets and comforter on it - it’s ready for guests and/or grands. I have 3 pictures to hang in there, then the room will be done. I thought about putting the electric blanket on - I will if we have company, but till then, it’ll live in a bag in the closet.

FCD will take SIL home with all the stuff Daughter wanted. Slowly but surely, we’re getting stuff out of the house. It may even be tidy one day!

That’s very good to know, thank you. They don’t want to do the stent in Logan, they want him at a hospital that can do open heart surgery if it becomes necessary. If that happens, it’ll be months before I can kill him!

I sure do like the care he’s been receiving so far, it’s much different than the hospitals in AZ. Nobody had any time to waste in AZ and explaining things thoroughly to frightened laypeople was just too much to ask of them.

And a good afternoon (just barely here). Shopping is done and sammich eaten. I saved a bunch of calories when I used the Jersey Mike’s site to see just how much having mayo on my sammich added to the calorie count (hint: a &#*$ lot), so bring it home and use the low-calorie stuff I have here. Did a little snacking too, so off to the gym to reduce those numbers. Almost 60F outside so those new pair of gloves I bought yesterday will not be getting a workout for a little while.

JtC, sorry things aren’t working out on hubby, but sounds like they are pretty competent there and take care of the family, too. Appendages will remain crossed.

FCM, that’s a nice thing to do for daughter/SIL. And concur, that reply sounds fishy to me.

Coppertone, I know what you mean, they use some type of flexible cord at my Doctor’s office, feels like the whole arm is going to be squeezed off.

Cookie, enjoy the cookie-making. And best wished to grandson, I spent a few Xmas seasons overseas, too.

J-Bats, glad you are losing weight too. I finally snuck below 200 lbs, my next goal is to use the gym machines and exercises to try and shape my body better (still too much around the gut).

I imagine you’re closer to the average than I am.

TIme to load up the gym bag and head on out to the swimmin’ place.

Just back from getting new tires put on the truck. On to sloth, I’ll continue clearing the shop tomorrow. I’m hoping that a local museum advertising for a job gets back to me sometime soon.

I hope the care quality continues to exceed expectations. :people_hugging:

Loose ends?

Tonight was supposed to be dedicated to the writing of Christmas cards. I have 8 on my list and have done 0. Zero.

I had to read and comprehend a series of emails about the parking regulations and other fun parts of being a property owner.

And there was the laundry fun.

And then there was the order I placed in November. Which got reimbursed by the company last week due to a shipping error. But it hasn’t hit my credit card yet. And they are giving me the chance to reorder, but only until this Friday. I’ve ordered successfully from them before, and I still want the stuff I ordered, especially at the price I got.

Well, my thyroid level is 2.66, which is fine, higher than it was in Feb.
I am wondering if the hair loss and fatigue, which I had in March with covid, is some sort of aftereffect.

Loose ends… well I finally finished my self evaluation that was due today. I hate doing them, and always put it off until the absolute last minute. Then there will just be random odds and ends to wrap up at work before the end of the year. Things get quite busy from January to March, so this lull is a much needed one.

JtC glad he seems to be getting good care (and that you’re getting good explanations)

Coppertone good luck on the job interview.

Too bad about the car. I had a Rogue that I loved (and not related in any way to my name funnily enough) but it just didn’t hold up. The transmission went out when it was only 8 years old and with 125k miles. A friend of mine also had a Rogue that was a year newer than mine - and the transmission on hers died the year after mine and at about the same mileage!

I’m able to post on the first day of the new thread! Woot!

Something I meant to mention yesterday is that late last week I learned that the U.S. Supreme Court is trying out a lottery system for audience/courtroom seating: instead of only being able to line up the morning of a session and hope to get in, people can apply in advance for tickets on days when the justices hear oral arguments and issue decisions (some walk-ins will still be allowed). Lottery “winners” are notified three weeks before the requested court date. I would never take my chances with lining up on a weekday morning, but I kind of like the idea of attending a Supreme Court session – just to see one – so on Friday I requested tickets to one argument on each date that was available (six dates in late February/early March). The first one is on 2/24: if I’m picked for any of them, I should start finding out around the start of that month. :crossed_fingers:

The biggest loose end I need to tie up this week is getting a Christmas gift for Wife BFF. My dad and brother and I stopped exchanging gifts years ago, so I only buy for my BFFs: Husband BFF’s gift is on its way (thanks to a suggestion from Wife BFF), and my “nephew” and his GF will get Amazon gift cards texted to them on Christmas morning (since they’re both in TX for the holidays). Normally I’m good at coming up with ideas for Wife BFF, but I’m at a loss this year and running out of time for something that could be delivered by 12/24. I reaaaally don’t want to go to the mall this close to Christmas, but I might have to. At least it’s super close to home: if that winds up being the way to go, I can take a long lunch one day this week instead of dealing with the weekend-before-Christmas insanity.

Oh, I have plenty of twinkly things around the house year-round! Including crystals hanging in the kitchen window (a tradition everywhere I’ve lived as an adult), and my big glass curio cabinet full of Swarovski figurines. Even though I’m always a little sad to see them go, I actually prefer having the holiday crystals out for only a month each year because it makes them feel more special. And I really would prefer to use the display space for new Lego sets.

IKR?! It’s awesome…and being tiny (1.5" high) somehow makes it even more awesome! I’m kind of in love with the rabbit, too. I’m toying with moving those two items – the only non-holiday ones – to the curio cabinet after Christmas instead of putting them back in the calendar.

Raisins will not be happening in this house. :joy: I think I just need to make sure that I take my evening iron supplement every night for at least a week before the next appointment. I can’t remember if I took it the night before I tried to donate, but there’s a chance I didn’t. *looks down and scuffs floor with toe*

I hope you’ll be able to find/afford to take something you might actually want to do! :crossed_fingers:

I don’t think I’ll ever be able to really retire, because I’m a renter, but do I hope that at some point I’ll be able to “semi retire” and stop worrying so much about how much a job pays.

Yay!

I got frequent ear infections well into my 20s. Not to the point of needing tubes or any kind of intervention, but I definitely knew what one felt like and could tell the doc.

:crossed_fingers: :people_hugging:

Ha! Good for you!

Ours were due a couple of weeks ago: now it’s year-end-conversation time. I’ll be meeting with my newbie on Wednesday, and my other direct report on Thursday. My boss hasn’t scheduled my conversation with him yet, but I already know that I had a pretty good year.

Dayum! I hope that they can too. Hugs to both of you.

I hope that it stays that way.

That’s always a good thing.

As for loose ends, I need to finish up the snowfolk, then put the dirty Santa gift and some tissue paper in a gift bag. I’ll go to SIL’s holiday tea Saturday and the rest of the holiday will be pretty calm. My goddog’s dad and I may go out for Indian or Thai food Christmas day. If we do, I’ll wait until the weekend to bake a ham (what I really want is the bone for new years’ black eyed peas).

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Thanks, knowing what is going on makes such a difference. Of course, this isn’t my first rodeo either, but it’s good to know that medicine has advanced so much in the past decade.

As he isn’t actively dying like he was the last time he got opened up like an Aztec sacrifice, they want to schedule this procedure so they have time to plan.

I think I’m going to have to take the trash out until he’s finished with all this stuff. That really sucks, taking the trash out is not something I do willingly.

He’s ready to be released, but I can’t drive after dark anymore (getting my cataracts fixed is on my list of things to schedule and this has moved it to the top of the list) so he’s waiting for a taxi to bring him home.

The fuzzbutts miss him and I noticed how quiet the place was without him as well.

Oh, in that case, I rescind my earlier statement.

I was just kinda sad to think … NO twinkly things?
But if you’ve got others, then stashing thr holiday ones makes a lot more sense to me.

Not that it’s even remotely any of my bizzzness.

Those were my 2 favorites, too. I’d keep 'em around.

We can totally be friends.

Same.

How YOU doin’?

Well done, lady.

We’re all keeping y’all in our thoughts.

I got my Secret Santa things (omg I am sooo excited!) and went ahead & caved for a lil’ something for myself.

I know I’m taking a $ hit for this week’s callout, but even Santa deserves a treat, yes?

Anyway, in honor of our RDOS, may I present …

It came with a teensy tiny card, which reads:

Live Life Like A Sloth

  • Get a grip
  • Hang out a lot
  • Get a good night’s sleep
  • Take your time
  • Just chill
  • Let things roll off you
  • Naps are good
  • You’re doing just fine
  • Always carry healthy snacks
  • Ice cream is good

OK, minor mystery of my kitchen. 2 cups water, 2 cups white rice, cooked in the Instant Pot.

Over 6 cups of cooked rice resulted. HOW did 2+2=6 or more?

Jtc,Sounds like y’all have a plan. That helps.

Today is Beethoven’s birthday. That means bins!

Started with a load of laundry in the washer and breakfast at restaurant down the street. Back at the building the first bin of decor was brought to flat, and the music of the birthday boy cued up.

7 hours later, 6 bins, and 7 loads of laundry later, not to mention stops at the recycle and goodwill bins. I finally got to sit down. I decided to have ice cream for dinner. I’ve got 2 areas looking good. A few more to go. It may slide into tomorrow.

I always hated doing them, too. Evals were a joke at most of my jobs, tho the last one before I retired the first time, my boss actually sat down with me and gave me real feedback and real goals. After I left, I sent him a long email saying all the nice things that would have been too awkward to say to his face. He responded in kind - I think we were a mutual admiration society!

FCD is pretty sure it’s the transmission on this one, too, not the tie rods. Needless to say, they’re not considering Rogues for their next vehicle.

shoe - LOVE the ring!! I’m not a jewelry person, but I’d wear that!!!

Speaking of vehicles, anyone have any strong feelings/opinions about the VW Tiguan?

I made potato soup for supper with russets and half-n-half. OMG, it was sooooooo good! I also made a pan of brownies, just because. The dishwasher is washing and I’m about to crochet the last band on the latest blanket. I’ve already loaded the donation stuff in the car, so we’ll drop it off tomorrow after meeting with our money guy.

For now, tho, chillage.

Got my card from @missred today!!! Thank you!

JtC, glad to hear that there’s time to plan.

Add me to the friends list here, too.

FCM, uh-oh, guess what kind of vehicle we’re driving now! Fortunately, though, it’s a lease.

I made some delicious (if I do say so myself) pasta and meatballs for dinner. Yum! And for no apparent reason I am so tired I could fall asleep sitting here.

Well, the usual ratio is 2 parts water to 1 part rice equals 3 parts cooked rice. Are you sure that you only used 2 cups of water?

I finished up the snowfolk candy bars. I made the decision to cut them on the Cricut and color them. I attatched them to wrapped candy bars. It was kinda fun!

Evening all. Spent most of the afternoon either swimming or doing gym stuff, so was going to reward myself with a Burger King Double Whopper (because, have to keep that protein up…). Alas, they were out of French Fries, so I went to Culvers instead for the evening repast. So well-filled now. Rain came a bit earlier than expected, so am parked inside for the rest of the evening. Some tunder-boomers are due around 11pm when I usually go to bed, so we’ll see how that works out.

I can get along with raisins, occasionally have a small pack of Sun-Maid (6 tiny boxes) Raisins for snacking purposes, but certainly not in any quantity.

VanGo, hope the museum comes through for you.

Coppertone, glad the thyroid numbers are good, but can’t help on the side effects.

52, I remember having to do self-evaluations too and also hated them. And have made a note for the 2025 car-buying plan: Don’t look at Nissan Rogues (thanks to you too, FCM)

Oopsie that note about the Supreme Court seating is interesting, mighty even be worth a trip up to DC sometime. Hope it works out.

JtC, glad Hubs is coming home (easier to kill him there). And yeah, get those eyes of yours worked on soon.

shoe, that is a very pretty ring and the sentiments that go with it (outside of the healthy snacks) are words to live by.

Nettie, the expansion of rice in a pot is one of the great mysteries of the universe…

rocky, take a break, man, you’ve had a real full day.

And that’s all the loose ends I could find this evening. Take care all.
