(Old) Tying up loose ends in the MMP

I’m sorry for your loss. Wishing peace to you and your family.

So, she has 11 sibs or is the new baby slated to be #13?

I’d go for that. Nothing without the dreaded coconut for dessert! You’d think that they would at least offer something that didn’t have such a divisive ingredient in it.

THIS!

My mom had one of those. On Tuesday afternoons, you would find her at the ironing board, ironing and watching her stories.

Irked, then came home to a cold, cold apartment. My mini-split fan was running, but no heat was coming out. I called maintenance. He came and fiddled with it and asked if I would be home tomorrow. I am slated to get a new mini-split at 10:00 AM. Yay!

After, I surfed the net, caught up here and made a big ass bowl of popcorn that I shared with Nelson.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Well. You might recall (or might not, what with all that’s going on with all of us) that my sister-in-law had to have an eye removed due to diabetes. She got the prosthesis a couple of weeks ago, and all was well. But now she’s got a rip in the eye socket, so she can’t wear the prosthesis, and if it doesn’t heal (a real possibility with diabetes), she’l have to have surgery. Again.

She’s depressed about this whole thing, and I can’t blame her. She said, “I really, really wish you were here.” :frowning: I feel so bad for her that part of me would like to fly out there now, but I just can’t. For one thing, I can’t miss an injection, or…let’s not go there.

swampy, I had to giggle at “bears who brawl” at WH.

52, I hope the Sandman brings you sweet dreams tonight. A nightmare hangover is the pits.

shoe, what a neat gift to get from Sahirrnee! Now for the ultimate test of button connoisseurship: Can you remove a dot without a lot of paper coming with it? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: I never could.

Dagnabbit. Another call.

ETA: Trying to type while my other cousin waxes poetic about her new grandson. Red, she’s the last of 10 kids. With her parents, that makes 12. People, not kids. Dang. an’t type and talk at the same time.

nellie - I was thinking about your transportation needs. If you had a cheaper place to live, would cabs or uber cost more than the difference in rent? Or had you considered that already?

I’ve wondered if I had no car, so no gas/insurance/maintenance costs, would using cabs or uber cost me more or less? But since I have FCD to drive me around, it’s not an issue yet.

We have an appointment at 7:30 tomorrow morning to get our RSV shots, then we’ll get breakfast. Then home for Laundry Day! Neener-neener-neener!

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

OMGoodness, my Dad had a 1960 Ford Fairlane that was named Blue Bonnet.

One of the things that I absolutely loved about TX were the fields of bluebonnets and Indian paint brushes along the freeways in March & April. So gorgeous!

Did a load of laundry, went to PO to mail off final package, decided to make some Christmas cookies today but didn’t have usable brown sugar, mostly hardened chunks. Well Hubs had gotten his mallet out from whereever it lives for me and I pounded those brown sugar chunks all I was good for. 99% of the chunks become powdery brown sugar. When all was said and done, I had enough for 1/2 cup which is what the recipe called for.

Took Hubs to his Pulmonary Function test then had an appointment with the Pulmonaligist who gave a clean bill of health to Hubs lungs. Yay! He also said that from the recent CAT scan and the Echocardiogram yesterday, the results showed no issue with his heart. Yay!

Made Turkey Pot Pie for dinner using a baggie of leftover Thanksgiving turkey. Then cored an apple, inserted cinnamon, nutmet and ginger into the core then baked. Yum :yum:

I went to the store and got a Kit Kat bar. Had a piece. Put it in the innermost zipped part of my purse.
Got home at 4.
Just realized it was in there!
Usually I only use that part on Sundays; I put my bandana in there as we wave them around right before the sermon.

I didn’t hit send after I replied, I hate it when I do that.

Imma gonna want your recipe, this is the baking time of the year for me.

I hope you like your new groomer and that Annie looks fab and happy when she’s done.

You did nothing wrong, sometimes life just isn’t fair.

Memory: Back when I was spending my Saturday’s at PetCo, the rescue leader loved popcorn. She would bring a big bag of popcorn in for everyone to share and would give it to the dogs if they asked politely.

One dog got adopted a week before but waited until the new owner had everything set up. Lolli let the dog sit next to her until the new owner showed up and fed the polite dog popcorn every time it nosed her.

Lolli went over the paperwork and explained things thoroughly while feeding the dog popcorn. Once everything was finalized, the new owner asked “So, is she officially my dog now?” Lolli "Yes, congratulations! NO “Great, stop feeding MY dog popcorn!”

We teased Lolli over that scolding until she died.

I do remember and I’m so sorry for her. And for you. :people_hugging:

I am soooo lazy, I would have just made my own with sugar and molasses. Or not, sometimes pounding things with a hammer is good for the soul.

What a great story! We had an English setter who loved popcorn. He knew which cabinet held the air popper and would come running whenever he heard that cabinet open. One time my now-ex forgot to put the top piece on, and the popper erupted like Mt. Vesuvius. Popcorn was flying in all directions. It was a veritable blizzard of popcorn. The dog was beside himself and kept lunging and jumping maniacally like a meth head in a money booth. I’m sure he bragged about it in the Twilight Bark.

Happy Thorsday!

It’s been a weird week.
Lots of minor annoyances. Like I sent a PieCaken
to the nieces, and then ordered another to send here. My credit card rejected the payment thinking it was a duplicate. It got straightened out.
Lots of tying up loose ends too.
My computer is making me crazy too as the keyboard lags and the scroll either goes too fast or too slow, or takes off on its own.

I’m glad I was able to give you a smile Shoe

I’ve missed a lot of what is going on.

Weis has coke products on sale (at least the one here does), buy 2 six packs and get THREE free.

I’m sorry to hear about your wife’s fall Herald

Most of my loose ends are finishing up what were started last week while my son was on vacation. Mostly I need to put stuff away, but I don’t want to do that until I’m sure we are done with mice. There’s not much sense in putting stuff away only to find mousie turds and have to take everything back out and clean it again.

Evening all. Have the NFL on Amazon Prime on another tab so may take some time to get this typed. Did some more exercising this evening so didn’t feel a bit guilty having a frozen ham-n-cheeser when I came home. Down to 37F now so both car and I will stay inside for the rest of the evening. Dishes have been put away and the recycle bin will be picked up tomorrow according to an e-mail I received.

FCM, I have to drive to Tennessee if I want to Lottery, about 35-40 minutes one-way so don’t do it too often. Never heard of $50 scratchers and would never consider buying one.

flyboy, that is quite a menu. Hope the filet is good, that would have been my choice too.

Cat Glove, glad the oops on the Zip code was fixable. Sounds like the clerk there was on the ball.

Shoe, that’s a nice name for a car. Never named mine but my dad called our old Ford Galaxie “Nellie Belle”. Hope the walk to retrieve the car wasn’t too bad.

{{52}}, haven’t had bad dreams like that in recent memory, hope you get your regular rest tonight.

Nettie, should we start a pool on how long before Bob-B needs this Jeep towed?

swampy, glad your meal at the House of Waffle was peaceful.

JtC, guess I’ll try to get the Refrigerator out of it’s spot sometime after Xmas. The dishwasher and washer/dryer have been moved and cleaned behind within the last 18 months, so we’ll see about that. And never heard of moisture alarms, will have to investigate that.

You have buff lady weightlifters there?

Sticky Buns, hope the new groomer works well with Annie; you ever watch “Girl with the Dogs” on You Tube—I think you would enjoy it.

neliie…I got nothing. Just hoping that something works out for you. And {{ }} for sis-in-law.

CatGlove, good news on Hubs.

Coppertone, Kit Kat is my favorite candy bar (M&M and Snickers are close behind).

Kroger is doing a “Buy 2 12-packs of Pepsi, get Three free”. I’m awfully tempted but will depend on what the expiration dates are.

And it’s nearly 10pm and the Football game has less than 7 minutes to go so I’ll catch up with all y’all tomorrow.

I watched the last Star Trek: Lower Decks. Now I have a sad. [T’Lyn]Which is not logical.[/T’Lyn]
But up, caffeinated, and sheveled. off to heave. Four days of heaving till The Feast Of Maximum Occupancy(thanks Boofae}.

I get that a lot at work. Sometimes by people in our own frickin’ building.

“Get the brush out of the boot, and clean the snow off of the bonnet.”
Thanks to PBS, I speak British.

So say we all.

You didn’t go wrong. Unless you count your parents not having a South African emerald mine. {{{{nellie}}}}

[Star Trek]Gonna crack my knuckles and jump for joy, got a clean bill of health from Doctor McCoy![/Star Trek]
Yay!

Thought I told that story :). A few weeks ago (right before Thanksgiving), DH thought he was going into mud, wound up in doorframe-deep water. Our insurance company decided it was a total loss, so we spent some time chasing around used car lots (this was our financial range), and got the payout from the insurance company at some point last night, so today we finalized the deal on the replacement Jeep we’d settled on.

No injuries, except to DH’s dignity and my blood pressure (I was not along on his venture into amphibious driving).

I’m hoping he learned from the last misadventure. Not sure how optimistic I am about that.

Note to the Small Egyptian God: If you start something with me on the bed, I will one handed suflex your fuzzy butt.

Invest in a snorkle.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 3c/38f with a predicted high of 7c/45f, and cloudy. Weather app says “The clouds need to move the fuck on. Where’s the fucking sun?” True…it’s cloudy out there today but sunrise was pretty.

Always a bonus! My gym doesn’t have a ladies-only area as the building is very small, but it’s also a very friendly crowd. They encourage people to post progress pics on their instagram site too, which is nice.

I am sorry to hear that, I hope perhaps being able to talk to you will cheer her up a little bit.

shoe nice name for a car! My car’s name is Keith

Yesterday was a bit of a nonsense day, couldn’t get anything much done at irk so I didn’t bother trying. Went home, had some sofa time with a snuggly Shadow, and made chicken curry for dinner. Today I am in the campus office by myself (there would have been two of us but I told my minion she could work at home if she wanted to, and everyone else is either on leave or WFH anyway). There’s nothing happening, we’re not expecting anyone in, and it makes no sense for two of us to be sitting here.

On the plus side, I have music on and I can potter along doing whatever I want. My out-of-office messages are all set to trigger at 3pm (when we’d normally close to students) and I have a nice peaceful office. There’s only one other administrator in, she’s two offices down the corridor so we’re covered in case of fire or flood!

You did nothing wrong. Keep going and things will work out somehow. :people_hugging:

That’s fantastic!

I hope so. The other thing is that after she came home from our usual groomer last time she was just acting kind of odd. It may have been something or nothing, I don’t know. Hopefully today goes well. One thing that could go better is if there were no such thing as puppy mills. My poor girl would not have had the hard life that she did, having been a breeder.

I’m not sure when I’m going to make pepperoni rolls. It kind of depends on when my stepsons are coming to visit. I’ll dig up the recipe, soon, though.

I’ll have to check that out! Thanks.

I think you told most of the story except not that part.

Sorry to hear about your family, @AskNott.

And, Herald, hope your wife feels better soon!

BooFae sounds like a good deal to get the office to yourself!

Ok, so, other than the groomer today, I’m going to be scouring the house to see if I can find one of MusicMan’s prescriptions which we seem to have run out of without either of us knowing. Otherwise I’m going to be looking to see who has Coke products on sale here so that I can go buy some!

Eons ago, MIL had a basset who also love popcorn (and pretty much anything edible) but Sugar wasn’t what you’d call a high-energy dog. She’d lie in the middle of the rug and they’d toss popcorn to her. But if it didn’t land within range of her head movement, she couldn’t be bothered. So you’d see this big ol’ basset hound with what looked like a halo of popcorn around her head, just out of reach of her tongue!

Same deal here, but at Food Lion it’s 3/$12 and by the time I figure the gas to drive to the nearest Weis (almost 20 miles), it’s cheaper at FL.

When I was in college, there was a Navy guy there and both he and his wife lifted. She looked super-fit, he looked almost ridiculously over-developed, at least to me. I don’t find the super-developed to be attractive.

OK, almost time to head to CVS to get stabbed, then somewhere for breakfast. More later! Happy Firday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN *Tis 41 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 61 and N.O.S. Today will be a day of high RDOS inactivities. I have had to leave da cave every day this week. This is an intolerable situation which must be rectified! Any need to feed today will be via forage as we have plenty of sammich makin’s, chips and so forth.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

Sorry for the typo. The pork chops I use for this dish are the thick, boneless eight ounce chops

Good morning.

It’s 44F, wet, and overcast outside. It’s supposed to be cloudy all day, with a chance of rain later this morning, and the expected high temperature is 56F.

The furnace people/guy(?) is supposed to come today to finally service the furnace. I am not holding my breath.

I got the dang tree up and decorated yesterday evening after working all day. So, that’s done. I am not sure if I’ll get the village up. We’ll see.

Work was filled with frantic pre-shut-down emails and many stressed-out messages from some of the staff new to government service. God, I hate this bullshit.

I’m off today and am supposed to be on leave through the 30th. Whether that’s paid or not remains to be seen, and if things don’t go well, I’ll have to work for a little on Monday to shut down the office in an orderly fashion.

Other plans for the weekend include finishing the last of the Christmas gifts for my son and husband. The tree looks sort of bereft without all the wrapped packages under it. I miss having all the packages for the kids and grandkids under there. I put the two square green and red ornament boxes under the tree to help with that empty look, and of course, my son’s presents will go under there, too.

On Monday or Tuesday, I’ll pick up the roast and the rest of the ingredients for Christmas Day dinner. I’ll pick up barley, carrots, celery, onions, and egg noodles in preparation for the prime rib soup. My husband plans to go to the grocery store to pick up “regular” groceries to get us to Christmas.

Flyboy, that menu looks amazing. I would have pretty much picked the same menu items you chose.

Nellie, I hope the conversation with your SiL helped to cheer her up. And, as far as the other situation, you’ve done nothing wrong. Life is just colossally unfair sometimes.

CatGlove, great news on your husband. I hope things continue positively.

Right, I need some more coffee. I need to feed the pups, start the dishwasher, and shower. Sending you all my best wishes for a trouble-free day.

Well, it turns out we got our RSV immunizations last year, and it’s a one-and-done shot, so we didn’t have to get up stupid early after all! Not a huge deal, tho FCD was sleeping so soundly. Instead, we went across the street and had a McBreakfast, then came home.

FCD is back in his office making a ridiculously detailed photographic-quality model of the boat upgrade. He does get a tad carried away, IMHO, tho it does look good. I’ve got the first load in the washer, 2 more to go.

I was really excited to see a package in the mailbox (I didn’t get yesterday’s mail till this morning because I was too lazy to walk down the driveway) and I thought it was my Secret Santa gift. Nope, it was from my overly-fundie cousin. I know she’s well-meaning and all, but it was 2 sappy books about grief, and an ornament, and a card, and a little plastic cardinal in the style of a rubber duckie. I will write her a nice thank-you note and toss everything but the cardinal - the grands might like it.

I also got the lovely card from peedin! What a nice surprise!! Thank you soooooo much!!

It’s dreary and rainy and cold out, so a good day to stay warm and dry indoors. Maybe I can finish my latest blanket, then text Jessica and ask her to stop by the next time she’s near here. She said she’d do that whenever I asked. It’ll be nice to see her again.

I also got the fixin’s for a pudding pie - I’m thinking that’ll be made today. Because chocolate.

jtc, that one is way too big. it fit in one hand.

i did get a very slim duster thing that fits under appliances. i don’t pull out appliances, i do run the duster thing under them and get the cat toys out. i don’t have an ice maker in the fridge.

the shirt shedding was insane. it snowed! snowed! when i took it off last night. today i have a sweatshirt with “nakatomi corporation christmas party, die hard 1988” on it.

girl with the dogs is a really good you tube channel. the cat grooms can get a bit tricksy.

nelliebly, you just gave me another flash back to my mum ironing. she had the same type of sprinkling bottle. like her sewing scissors, there was horrible consequences to touching it. every now and again i come across a candle that is just on the edge of hitting the scent of ironing day.

re: popcorn, best day ever for your setter! lager had a moment like that when the greenie bag exploded instead of nicely ripping open. he was spinning, paws were flying, and he was growling.

fcm, great story about the basset, i can just picture it. gotta love the bassets. those ears…sigh, so velvety.

stretch liked popcorn, he would eat about 4-5 pieces. he wouldn’t go wild on it. lager and koritza are not interested.
