(Old) Tying up loose ends in the MMP

Brrrrr!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of jeans in the dryer, clothes in the wash, KP done and stuff cleared out for the maintenance guy to get me some heat going. I’m not going to do any other cleaning until he’s done.

I do need to go to the 'Boro today and get more nuts from Sprout’s market, since I decided to make a double batch of spiced nuts and take some to the potluck at irk Monday as well as the holiday tea tomorrow.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Thanks for reminding me I have a load in the washer that needs to be moved!

First load done and put away, second load in the dryer, third and last in the washer. I hadn’t realized how much extra laundry one tiny old lady added to the mix.

I also hadn’t realized that her son is turning into her. I would ask her “Do you want lunch?” and she would respond “What time is it?” No, the answer to that question is “Yes” or “No” - the time is irrelevant when you aren’t relying on someone else’s schedule. Just a few minutes ago, I asked FCD if he wanted lunch. His response “Is it lunch time?” That, also, is not an answer to the question. Dammit! Anyway, he decided he doesn’t want a sammich right now. Which is fine. No biggie.

FCD will be taking Daughter and SIL to look at a car tomorrow, so I’ll have the kids. It’s going to be cold, so I’ll fire up the insert in the basement to give them a warm place to play. They do entertain each other most of the time, which means I can just sit and chill, theoretically. We shall see.

We’ll be doing Christmas Eve breakfast and gifts at Daughter’s since we’ll all be going to my brother’s on Christmas Day. Between now and then, who knows what might happen…

Reasonable heaving. The table hates it when I get called off somewhere else. I’m 6’2", the next tallest person is 5’5", and she’s a giant compared to the other 3. I stopped at Teeter for some salmon.
Clerk: “Do you need help?”
Me: “I’m beyond help, but I could use some fish.”

Another day of reading and snacking.
My friend gave me 2 dollars so I will join the laundry crowd today ( no crowd, we have washers on each floor, most people do theirs on the weekend.)
Listening to a couple of Thai Rivera’s podcasts.
I should be so funny.
Its cloudy and 30s today.

A beautifully sunny day today. Well, our big snow storm was a bit of a fizzle, with only a few inches on the ground. Enough to have fun sliding around corners with the car, but not enough to cause havoc. We made a grocery run today without issue. Picked up a nice king crab leg on sale. I’ll freeze it and add the meat to the Christmas seafood paella for a nice touch.

We’ll be doing Christmas dinner a couple of days late, as the niece and her husband will be available on the 27th. My own kids have yet to invite us for Christmas day (since we moved here). I’m guessing it’s because they have their mother over and are afraid of some friction, which is just silly. The only way they could get that idea would be from her, as I feel that (after 30 fucking years), those sorts of feelings should have died a squealing death. Ah well, we had a nice Thanksgiving with them all (minus their mother, of course. Man, that woman can hold a grudge).

Picked up a nice cover for my Kitchenaid mixer. In the past, it’s always lived in a cupboard, but in this tiny kitchen it sits on a shelf and is exposed to dust and grease from the stove. I hate having to wash it before use. I’ll be making my last batch of cookies today and then it goes back on its shelf for probably another six months.

I’m getting worried about my cat Atilla. I had him to the vet a couple of weeks ago for shots and he seemed okay, or as usual, given his age. He’s over 17-1/2. But for the last three days he has hardly eaten anything and sleeps all the time, hardly moving. He hasn’t come into my bedroom at night to sleep with me and the dog. I have given him some lickable cat food and he seems to like it, as I put it in a dish right down beside him so he doesn’t have to get up. Before his dish has been in the bathroom, up on the ledge so the dog doesn’t get it but now he won’t jump for it.

I’m trying to decide if I should call the vet office back. I’m afraid to upset him by putting him in the carrier again. But the fact that he doesn’t seem to resist being picked up to go into it is a sign he is feeling off. I don’t want him to be unhappy or not comfortable though, I just don’t know what is the best course. I have had Atilla for over a quarter of my life, and I’m almost seventy.

Afternoon all. Stayed in bed until near 8am and then headed out shopping, decided to do the January stock-up today since I’ll be gone next week and wanted max fuel Points for my trip up to Brother’s. Had to go to three Krogers because two of them had no Diet Pepsi 12-packs (if your going to run a sale, make sure you have enough stock, people!) but finally managed to get everything and played some freezer tetris to get it all put away. Then had lunch and did 2 or 4 internet things, so while I will be doing my swimming later I will try and relax some for now. Bright and sunshiny outside, but there was frost on the ground this morning and the temp is now 44F and not due to get much warmer.

Bully.

boo fae, sometimes having an office to yourself can be fun; often I found it boring unless there was something that really needed my concentration.

FCM, great story on the basset; my brothers Bassets don’t like eating out of the bowl; they’ll carry a mouthful of dry food into the living room, drop it there and then eat it (they also loved to eat ice cubes if we dropped one from the freezer).

I have a line like that, people will move around me or I’ll try to get out of their way and they’ll say “You’re Fine” and I’ll reply “There are people who would debate that…”

Taters, hope the leave time means that you are on leave and are left alone by the higher-ups.

{{Cupcakes}}, know it is hard to do, but I’d take Attila to the vets now, at his age it could be anything (or hopefully nothing) but he (and you) deserve to know. IMHO as always, YMMV

Whew, need to take a little break then off to the gym. Take care all.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes - I slept a lot better last night. And can see the end in sight for work today! Just waiting to hear back from some coworkers to wrap things up. I’m the only one in my group working between now and New Years, so can’t let this slide.

Oh my… I’ve never pulled an appliance out just to clean under it!

:people_hugging: I don’t know your story, being so new to the MMP threads, but please don’t be so down on yourself. I’ve really come to believe that security in retirement is mostly down to luck. I’ve seen people that do everything “right” end up destitute and others that didn’t hardly do a thing to prepare are able to coast along in relative comfort.
Where are you thinking of moving to?
And thank you for the popcorn laugh, I needed it!

I have a couple of friends also facing this issue. Their supervisors recommended that they cancel their leave requests so it isn’t wasting vacation time if they’re going to be home anyway. And if a shut down is averted they can just resubmit the time off. I don’t know if that’s feasible or helpful for your situation, but throwing it out there in case it is.

Baker, I would recommend getting some blood work done. Kidney issues tend to be prevalent in older cats. I hope it’s nothing major and Atilla feels better soon!

That’s something he had done at his last visit and the kidneys were okay for his age. He also gets Science Diet K/D but as I said I’ve been tempting his diet with soft food.

That is good news at least! Maybe call the vet and see what they recommend?

It’s so hard as they get older :frowning:

attilla is 84 going on 88 in human years. i hope he is just having an off day or 2.

Yesterday was another steadily-busy day. I typically don’t post after I’ve moved to the LR for the evening, because I don’t like the interface on my iPad (fine for reading; annoying for posting/replying). Happily, I decided to take this afternoon off work and have been putzing around since 12:05pm. After logging off I ate some lunch, and finally called the car place: I have an appointment at 1pm on 12/26 to have my windshield wipers replaced, and will get my safety inspection done while I’m there. That, I think, will tie up the last of the loose ends.

My plans for this afternoon have gradually become less and less ambitious: first, I was thinking about going to the mall, the Lego reseller, and the grocery store…this morning I decided on just the Lego reseller and the grocery store…now it’s just the grocery store. And I’d skip even that, except for wanting to pick up some champagne to bring to my friend’s party this evening. :champagne:

All of my Christmas shopping is finally done, except for the Amazon gift cards that I will buy/text to my “nephew” and his GF on Christmas morning: Wife BFF’s last gift (the good one) arrived yesterday, and Husband BFF’s gift was delivered this morning. Phew!

Ugh; I’m so sorry. :people_hugging:

Ha!! Very true. And yes, every time I think about selling them I wind up deciding to hang on to them…at least, while Bruce is still with us.

Perfect! :joy:

Congrats! New/new-to-you vehicles are always fun.

I’ve lived in this place for 10.5 years, and have never pulled out my fridge or oven.

My ex got Bailey hooked on popcorn: I used to hardly ever eat it but he’d have it regularly, and he’d always give some to the dogs. After we broke up and she and I moved out, whenever I had popcorn she’d be right there, staring at me, looking ridiculously cute until I gave her some. A few years ago, I decided to break her of the habit; luckily, it was pretty easy to do. These days I have popcorn almost every evening, and it’s really nice to be able to do so without being stared down.

Hooray! :tada:

There have been several shutdown-related emails on my (federal) customer’s network this week, and today my company sent one out. Luckily, my program is fully funded: even if there is a shutdown, we keep working…and getting paid.

:frowning: I’m with the others who recommend calling the vet: when it comes to my dog, I’d always rather overreact than underreact.

I have called the vet and will be gping to get some soft food in the same formula as his dry. He had also been prescribed a heart pill that I’ve been trying to crumble on his food, it seems to go better on the wet treats, so maybe canned food will help. If by Monday he doesn’t seem better I will take him in to the office.

it is snowing!!!

of course, it isn’t sticking as it is 34f, and it is too on the wet side to accumulate 34f, however! snow is coming out of the sky!!

snow dance!!

good luck with the food for attilla.

oooo, nearly forgot. i learned a new german word today:

sitzpinkler

great word. it means a man who sits to pee.

german… what a language.

We’re just back from picking up MIL’s ashes and death certificates. It was difficult for FCD - he still blames himself for his parents’ deaths, even tho he knows he had nothing to do with it. The guilt is strong with this one. I don’t know what to do - he absolutely refuses counseling.

Dreary day, but my bright spot was the arrival of my SS gift, including a sampler of See’s chocolates! I’ve already had 2 and forced myself not to inhale the whole box. OMG - YUM!!!

Supper will be scrambled eggs with some ham. That’s about all that’s planned now.

I think I’d go with just wetting the dry food.

You put the Diet Pepsi in the freezer?? :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Did you make lego champagne glasses??

Good! I hope your kitty is feeling better.

I’m just sitting here waiting for MusicMan to call. He wants to go look at SUVs and then grab some dinner.

I’m so cracking up at that one.

Hubs once brought home a broken paint shaker because he was going to fix it and have his own paint shaker in his work stall. Instead of going shakeshakeshake, it went shake…shake…shake…

I knew it would never be fixed so thought I should repurpose it into a butter churn. I put a jar of cultured cream in, started it and watched it for a few minutes to be sure that it would work. Then I opened the jar to release the gas and didn’t seal the lid properly so it started slowly dripping. Our dairy loving cat saw that it was raining cream and started chasing the drops back and forth, just having the time of his life.

Then I noticed what was happening and being a party-pooper, stopped the shaker and made sure the lid was properly sealed before starting it again. Bubba knew that there was cream in the gallon jar and jumped up and wrapped his legs around the jar while frantically licking at the lid. I started the shaker. He rode that thing like a bar bull, claws scrabbling at the glass and his idiot slave laughing until water came out of her eyes.

There was one lady on a weight machine that looked very fit, but those machines are sized for men, so most of the women want to use the other machines. (Men can use the woman’s machines, nobody is locked out of the different rooms.)

You lost something you enjoyed, your sad is very logical.

I remember the jeep in the water pics, really wanted to tell you to tell him to keep it running lest the engine suck up water. I agree with the snorkel suggestions. They really are a thing and they work very nicely. The issue is that your gas mileage (which is probably crap to start with) gets even worse when you are commuting with it so you have to be able to change your exhaust system out at a moment’s notice.

The gym crowd has always been nice, the different areas are mostly because men are shaped differently than women and it’s easier for everyone to have the different sized machines in different spots.

So, I gots a question for you. The only other woman I’ve seen using the shower in the woman locker room is the swim teacher. The shower stalls are usually dry when I go into one. Do weight lifting women not shower at the gym?

I do because I want to get the chlorine off ASAP but I don’t like the gym shower nearly as much as my own, but I’d want to shower after getting all sweaty as well.

I dunno, this is my first experience with gym culture, I’m just learning!

I hope it was nothing, but that shes an old lady and maybe got moved wrong by mistake, not impatience.

Are you sure she wasn’t a cat?!?!

Back when I was a starting out floozy, I loved them. We looked great together, all the other women in the room hated me and I had someone who would one hand lift me over his head so I could dust the ceiling fans. The main issue is that the musclebound cannot fuck for shit. They have the stamina, dedication and focus, but their muscles stop them from being able to move their bodies like I wanted them to.

The Silver Fox I’ve been admiring is probably very flexible…

I feel the need to ask about that story, I’ll bet its either a doozy or a nothing.

I read forward and saw that you have a plan, but wanted to be sure that you know that I’m worried about him with you. They just don’t live long enough, damnit.

It sure does look like I’m an outlier. Perhaps there is a little CDO (OCD in the right fucking order) involved. Plus, I was a professional cheese maker for a while. If you really want to let your inner CDO out to play, start making bleu cheese. (those sneaky spores will infect your whole system if they get a chance)

You rent, that’s not your job. Cleaning happens because that’s what I do, mostly we just like to get a look at the connections and stuff. If our ice maker starts leaking, we can’t call the landlord to fix it.

The weather guessers have promised snow here…but nothing has happened.

I love your word of the day

So my day started by finding a spoon on the floor in the living room. It was a nice enough spoon I suppose, but it was not one of our spoons. We don’t have mismatched cutlery and have been using the same set of stainless for almost 20 years. I know what our spoons look like and the one on the left is not one of our spoons.

I was also the happy recipient of a card from wet one and Ursala Kitty.

Thank you so much for the adorable card!

Hubs is feeling better and today he thought he should go to town and pick up his new script. I had already picked up his first ten pills because Walgreens didn’t have enough nitro for all the old fucks in town, but they promised the rest would be ready yesterday. I should have gone with him, I spent the entire half hour fretting about him.

He’s fine. I just worry. That’s what I do.

My new project has shipped which makes me happy. I have stuff to print and read so TTY laters.

I hope he’s just feeling a bit off. Nevertheless, consulting the vet would be a good idea. Hugs to you and gentle pats to Atilla.

Me either.

:stuck_out_tongue: I pop popcorn on the stove, so what I share with him is solely popcorn popped in peanut or coconut oil. I take his little share out before seasoning it. He enjoys it and it’s relatively healthy, so I don’t mind sharing.

I can haz heat!

When maintenance came at 10, he figured out that he didn’t have the correct cord for the mini-split. The manager called the supply place and they initially told her delivery around noon. When that didn’t happen, she called again and they told her that they couldn’t deliver today. She sent the maintenance guy to the place to get the part. Meanwhile, I stepped out to the grocery store. The maintenance guy was right behind me when I turned into the drive. After that, it took all of 15 minutes to install. Now that it’s warmed the apartment, I may need to turn it down a little.

Other than that, not a whole lot shaking at CasaRoja.
