Currently as I type there is a suspicious poodle licking my right arm. YUCK.
Not much to say except hello. Just finishing up the grocery list for Christmas dinner. I was planning on making lasagna, but MusicMan wants spiral glazed ham and the fixins’ so that’s what we’ll have!
Hope everyone has a good day and there’s nothing to that December 22 thing.
It is, or I wouldn’t have stuck around. (Jeez, it’s been two anna half years!)
That’s due almost entirely to S.M. she really is the glue holding that place together.
Ask me again how I feel about it tonight, though, since between the upcoming “closed for the holidays” panic-buying, and the Lions game, we gonna be hella busy today.
On the other hand, I’m “early out” instead of closing, so … hopefully shouldn’t be too bad.
Anyway, I need to feed my own rumbly tumbly & then hopefully get some more shut-eye.
Growing up in the US midwest with one parent from the southeastern US, this is what we called a kettle. Tea kettles were what you described as a kettle and yes, a teapot is a different animal.
Happy Sunday!
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP and Sunday chores.
It will be a somewhat restful week, given that we’ll do our holiday potluck at irk tomorrow, irk a half day Tuesday, come back Thursday, then off for the weekend. The following weekend, it will be rinse, lather, repeat, except that I took off the second and sixth, so it will be five days in a row. Looking forward to messing around in the studio, reading and hanging out with Nelson.
Today I’m going to do a load of laundry or two, neaten up the dining room table, and spend the afternoon hanging at the barn. It’s winter in no. Illinois. The weather is pretty much the same every day….
Oh, I forgot… I showed up at Bordertown Pizza at the appointed time to pick up our pie. ‘I’m just putting it in now. It will be about 10 minutes. I’m sorry.’ So I waited around 10 minutes. He packed up someone’s twisted bread sticks and asked me, ‘Do you want any sauce or parmesan with your brea sticks?’ I said, ‘I didn’t order any bread sticks.’ This confused him. He looked on his monitor and said, ‘John [Notmylastname]?’ ‘No, I’m John [Surname].’ There was a kid working there too, and he went and grabbed our pizza right out of the hot box. I’d seen it there when I walked in; but assumed it wasn’t ours, else they would have given me it.

Happy Christmas Eve Eve Eve!
It’s currently 29°F and only gonna top out at 30°, so today will be another “stay inside” day for me. At least it isn’t as windy today, and I’m glad that it’s sunny again. I’ll work tomorrow and Tuesday but I don’t have anywhere to be until Tuesday evening, when I’ll go to my BFFs’ for dinner and our gift exchange – and Wife BFF’s legendary holiday cookies. I think I did pretty well by both Wife and Husband BFF this year, so I’m looking forward to seeing them open their gifts.
My only plans for today are to do laundry (like several of my fellow Mumpers), and keep working on the Lego White House that I started yesterday. Of the three sets that had been waiting for me I picked the one with the most pieces, but overestimated how long the build would take: there’s a good chance I’ll finish it today, which means the finished set will hang out on the kitchen table until I undecorate on Thursday.
Lunch will be a banana and a Golden Krust spicy Jamaican-style beef patty, which I’m looking forward to. I get them in the frozen food aisle, and had no idea that there were actual Golden Krust locations until just now when I went looking for a link! The only one anywhere near me is 22 miles away, which isn’t terrible but is way too far when I can buy the frozen patties 1 mile away. Heh.
I appreciate the vote of confidence, but I’m far from a Lego genius! I’ve never designed anything myself; I don’t have that kind of creativity (I have other kinds). Some of the sets look impressive when they’re done, but really it’s just one step above paint-by-numbers…seriously. I’m inspired about this champagne glass, though, and yesterday I had the better idea to try piecing something together using the extra bricks I already have: if I can figure out how it might work, then I can look for clear/specific pieces. I might start futzing around with it after I finish the White House.
I was thinking “stay home,” but doggio’s suggestion might be better!
What a cool thing to do for everyone every year!
A similar thing happened to me at a burger place a few months ago, but in my case they wound up giving my order away to the other person with my first name! I had to sit and wait while they made everything – for three people – again. The staff apologized profusely and took a few things off the bill, and it’s a place my friends and I like and order from often, so all was forgiven nearly immediately.
My gosh, y’all have been a busy bunch! I’ve caught up, but just responding to some highlights…
JtC the cat story had me cackling. Cats are such funny creatures.
I like how you’ve given the Jeep agency and that it participated in deciding in its own demise. I hope your new Jeep has better sense than the old one.
flyboy that Christmas dinner sounds delicious! Also, maybe just be a little extra careful today.
nellie it sounds like the apartment above you is being used as an Airbnb and not for temp workers.
I hope you post pictures of your completed creations.
Today will be a lazy Sunday. I’ll get out at some point but not for a bit.
Breakfast was runny eggs over toast. I mis-timed it and partially cooked one of the yolks. Not that big of a deal but disappointing nonetheless.
The little monsters have been snoozing all morning on the cat tree in the spare bedroom. That can only mean mayhem and mischief for this afternoon. That might be when I run those errands…
My sis-in-law called this morning. I’ll blur this out, even though it’s not oogy, because some people might not want to read about it. Her eye looks worse. On Thursday, the doc said it MIGHT be infected and gave her a topical antibiotic. Now it sounds to me like it’s definitely infected. She’s diabetic, so infections, as diabetics know, are a real concern. She has nobody for emotional support but my brother, and, well, sometimes you need someone else in addition.
I said in an earlier post that I don’t have a lot to clean out preparatory to moving. Hah. Just because a drawer or closet isn’t overflowing doesn’t mean I can’t get rid of stuff. I’m getting rid of all the “I might possibly use that” stuff. Ruthless. That’s my new byword.
Today’s decision is to stay in the area, find something cheaper, and cut expenses. I just can’t deal with a huge move and all the what-ifs. Denial is underrated. Stay tuned. Tomorrow I might decide to get me to a nunnery.
Growing up in a coven, this is what we called a kettle. That’s me in the middle, flanked by Auntie Griselda and Gramma Gothel.
Well, of course! But now I want a photo of all that cuteness in checkered boots and green bows.
I hope your ceiling is still intact this morning. Also that Spot abdicates so you can make the bed.
You’re a good mom. I hope he gets rejuvenated bt his visit with you.
Ugh. How rough. I’m sorry you had to go through that.
Holy smokes. I used to arise at 4:50 when I was teaching, but I never thought of it as sleeping in.
Great idea! And the lucky winner was…Fairychat Estates! When is my rent due? Are emotional support giraffes allowed?
It doesn’t get decorated at the beginning of Advent?
Oo! I wonder if it would look like that to the car ahead. When someone’s going 20 under the speed limit on a two-lane, you could get 'em to pull over, and go your merry way. I’m so glad you got such sweet things from appreciative bosses! You deserve all of them and more.
It was snowing this morn and I was afeered church would be off. It wasn’t.
I went to my Wednesday church today.
They had beef, carrots and potatos.
Yum. I have a cough. I never do, even when I had Covid in March.
It feels like it will break up soon.
The church was kind for xmas and got me a month long bus pass which will really help.
I am happy because my team is in the playoffs! Yay Ravens.
Daughter sent me videos of the grands talking to Santa. I don’t know what Roxy told him she wanted because she whispered, but Tobias said he wanted a house! Daughter has no clue where that came from!
But it was neat - apparently Santa had a book with some info on each kid (no doubt gleaned from their moms) so he knew how old Roxy is and where she goes to school and a few other items. Similar info for Tobias. It was really well done. Apparently, “Santa” does this sort of thing every year - hired by different companies or individuals - and he donated his time to the fundraiser where my sister won him. I could tell he’s from Baltimore just by how he pronounced the long “o” sound. It’s a distinguishing tell of a Baltimore accent. (Which I don’t have.)
Sweetie, if you can wrangle a giraffe here, you can keep it in the back yard!
We went to the Tequila Grill in Charlotte Hall for lunch - that tab came to $56 and change with tip. That was for a bowl of black bean soup, fiesta shrimp, and 2 diet cokes. I’m pretty sure we won’t go back there. The food was good, but not THAT good. Salsa’s is much more reasonable.
On the plus side, there was enough food that I won’t be making supper. Maybe a bowl of cereal but no full meal nonsense.
But now, back to my book - I’m almost done reading it, after many, many non-reading days. Because crocheting.
There’s a small local pizza chain I really like. I ordered from them for pickup, way back when they had only the one store. I got there and the poor girl at the counter was aghast, as she had not turned in my order. I’ve been in food service and I know mistakes get made, so I said I’d wait. She dashed into the back and got their manager. He told me they would put it in NOW and it would be free. I also was given a coupon for the next one free, and also some breadsticks someone had not picked up. The pizza was great but the service was what has kept me going back.
Tou know, 52, you might be onto something there. (Is it a B&B if there’s no breakfast?) That is, a corporation is renting it, but I can’t see how it’s really saving them money over putting people in a mid-price hotel for a few days. The rent, utilities, and cleaning really add up. But what would stop the corporation from charging people to stay there? It’s a violation of the lease to sublet, but there’d be no sublet papers, and besides, if there are supposed to be people coming and going, how would management know?
I have new neighbors next door, but I never hear any noise, so that’s good. Of course, they just got there…
My son went through a years-long Legos phase, so I get it. When he first started at age 7, he’d say, “Mom, there are pieces missing!” every single time. Of course, there never were. Eventually he got past that and had literally thousands of pieces in a big box. His best buddies, who were brothers, also had thousands of pieces. The three of them invented some bomb-ass constructioins. Have you ever been to Legoland?
Oh, adorbs times two! LOVE those boots!
I was planning on saddling him up and riding him there, but I have to learn how to pole vault first. You don’t have a stable, to you? Like a stable with a very tall tower?
Today has been a lazy day. I’ve selected the papers and tools for my next card set. They’ll either be ones that I hand deliver or that I donate, given that they’re square (USPO charges more to mail, even though most are smaller than an A7 card that goes at a standard rate).
Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated, et, napped and day drank. I know, how do we manage such a gruelin’ schedule! Next up is Netflix, popcorn and chill time.
Nellie a little greenery may pop up durin’ Advent, but no tree, wreaths, poinsettias etc. until after the fourth Sunday in Advent. Makes for a frantic time when the fourth Sunday is the 24th. Advent service in the mornin’ followed by the early (kids) Christmas service in the afternoon and then the Christmas Mass (Christ Mass!) that night. That happened last year. We Whiskypalians rank too early Christmas decorations right up there with eatin’ sallit with the fish fork. Just unheard of!
Joyous Solstice to all! I haven’t had internet for a month, so I just now read the last several MMPs. FCM and family, my condolences on your loss, and you gave MIL a much better end of life than she’d have had under other circumstances.
I’ve read everyone’s health news with good wishes in my heart.
Similarly, cars, jobs, pets.
Nellie, have you considered Oregon? There’s no sales tax, and although there is an income tax, for a retiree, it might not hit as hard. There are communities that cost a lot less while still having reasonable public transportation and medical access. For example, though Eugene is rather expensive, Springfield, just across the river, is much less so and is closer to the big Riverbend PeaceHealth hospital. There’s a regional airport in Eugene, and both Amtrak and bus service to other communities and bigger cities. Just a thought.
We have one 12-pack of TP in the garage and probably 24 rolls in the bathrooms.
I use Booking for almost all of my travel accommodations (which can include up to 40 separate nights just for a Camino walk) and haven’t had any problems on the Booking end of things.
I’m driving a 2008 Nissan Versa that’s only required the expected repairs and replacements.
We’ve visited 6 continents in 6 months* using up expiring vouchers or grabbing replacement fares for travel cancelled or delayed during the first 2 COVID years. Now we’re looking forward to Christmas at home and no travel for a good long time.
