(Old) Tying up loose ends in the MMP

Home at last! BIL mentioned, in a by-the-way manner, that he’d fallen again and thinks he blacked out. WTF?? Did he call his doctor? Of course not. I told him if it happens again, he needs to call because we don’t want to find him dead on the floor of his apartment. Somehow I see that in our future.

I scored a spiral ham for .89/lb, I’m going to cut it up and package it for future meals, and the bone will go into bean soup. I also got an 18-pack of eggs since I’m usually expected to bring deviled eggs. But this year, I’m not taking as many.

One sister will want the bloody Mary eggs, and the rest will be regular - I figure 8 of each. I’m going to die the whites red and green (OK, probably more pink than red) and the red (pink?) ones will be the Bloody Mary type. How very festive!!

I didn’t scratch FCD’s car, so win for me!! I still need to figure out a bunch of controls, but I think I’ve mastered the cruise control. I can set up my own profile (with my preferred music) and link my phone. I wish he had a driver’s seat like on his Caddy - it had setting for 2 drivers in memory, so all we had to do was push a button to get everything the way we liked it. Hyundai missed the boat on that one.

We’re going to Texas Roadhouse at 4 - no cooking for me tonight! So I can pretty much chill till then.

I’m happy to report that I did think of a better gift for Wife BFF: the cheapest vase that Tiffany & Co. sells will be delivered tomorrow. She was with me when (and was the reason why) I went into my first Tiffany’s back in September and bought my first jewelry from them on my birthday, and we often share photos of items we love but that cost more than a car (we’re way too lazy for a heist). It finally occured to me to check whether they sell any reasonably-priced* home decor: when she sees the distinctive blue box, I’ll need to say right away that it isn’t jewelry! LOL! So, now she’s getting a tabletop fire pit and a vase. I’m happy.

*Your definition may vary.

I think the new construction on the house catty-corner to mine is finally nearly done: the concrete and landscaping work seems to be done, which are usually among the last things, and right now there’s a crew resurfacing the street – also usually one of the last things, once there won’t be any more heavy equipment. Maybe it’ll be a quiet Christmas! :crossed_fingers:

This afternoon and tomorrow morning I have year-end performance discussions with my direct reports, but then tomorrow afternoon I have a voice lesson (yay) and I’m only working 1/2 day on Friday. On Friday evening a friend in her late 60s is throwing herself a birthday party, and I plan to attend; at least for a few hours. Otherwise, I have no plans this weekend…except possibly going to hear some live music on Saturday night. I’ll play that by ear. And next week I only work on Monday and Tuesday, so that will be nice.

Boooooo!

That prompted me to look something up: turns out that a book I have is selling on Abe – used – for $300+!! :open_mouth:

In 1990 and 1992, Bruce Dickinson – the lead singer of Iron Maiden – published very very NSFW books about the sexual adventures of a character called Lord Iffy Boatrace. I’m an Iron Maiden fan, and have both. The first one seems to be pretty widely available (used copies are on Abe for $50), but the second book is the one going for $300+. Hmmm.

Woah there: I never claimed that rents were reasonable, they’re just way less than mortgages on the same property. And what I’m paying for a single-level, 3BR/1BA house would be reasonable for a 3-level, 5BR/2BA house 30-40 miles west of here, but would only rent a studio or 1BR apartment 5-10 miles to the east. My property manager could probably charge another $100-200/mo, but a mortgage payment on this place would be at least double my current rent. As it is, whenever the time comes to move I plan to stay in this area but look for a townhouse (more inside space and less yard): I’ll be expecting a 20-40% rent increase then.

Yay!

Holy crap! I hope she’s patient enough to listen to her doctors and get the rest she needs to recover properly. If I ever had an injury like that, I’d almost definitely try to do too much too soon and wind up hampering – if not outright scuttling – a full recovery.

Oops. Hadn’t meant to respond to anyone – that was supposed to be a generic post to the thread!

If at first you don’t succeed…

Job has turned me down, as expected.

I’m so sorry to hear that.
I have a few questions, if you don’t mind:
Did they tell you why they didn’t want to hire you?
What kind of positions are you applying for?
Do you have the skills needed to be successful at the positions?
Are you able to fulfill the expectations as to hours and days of the positions?

If you’d prefer to PM, feel free. I’d like to help, if at all possible.

Aiaiaiaiaiaiaiai!! Just noticed that the mail hadn’t been pushed all the way through the slot in the door. Found the very cutest card!!! From wet one. All handmade with a holiday train, Christmas tree, decorated houses and snowflakes on the front. Inside was a swag of holly, a Merry Christmas banner and a nice saying "Let’s Deck the Halls with love and laughter". Perfect.

Thanks so very much wet one. :christmas_tree: :heart_decoration:

Alright, it’s 3 p.m. I guess I oughta rouse myself from my warm, softy, comfy nest and face the cruel, harsh realities of life put on pants.

The Oracles are predicting imminent snowfall over the next day or two.
It was beautifully foggy a few days ago, I guess around last weekend, like really stunning.

Today should be straightforward. (She said, jinxing it.) I close tonight with S.M. and Car(e)less Co-worker and we’ve done this as a trio team so many times, the communication usually goes smoothly.
(As long as SOMEone doesn’t burn a sh!tload of pizzas … )
I have two of those sammiches I like from the Dollah Sto’ stashed in the walk-in freezer there, and a mini bag of Doritos in my locker, so I should be all set in the gooshy fud department.

Alright, off to it. :pizza:

Back from Texas Roadhouse, stuffded to the max. We brought home most of our Cactus Blossom - I think it should crisp up nicely in the air fryer - we’ll find out.

Time to assume the crochet position and maybe watch a few more episodes of The Tudors. Beheadings have begun in earnest. Anne Boleyn is in the on-deck circle. Henry VIII was a real asshole!! I’ve watched several documentaries about him - not a nice man at all, even apart from killing off wives.

But the series is interesting, and there’s some worthy eye candy (Henry Cavill, for example) Off with me!

Yes. Nelson costs me $25 a month (but he’s soooooo worth it!)

I think my email got some attention. I’m sure that OSHA and codes likely have some regs about how far potties and potable water are from irk stations. The last two times that they did this, they did it overnight on the weekends and provided port-a-johns / hand sanitizer for the inventory and security folks who worked that shift (I was one of them).

Glad to see you on this side of the sod!

I hope that Lady heals quickly and well, herald.

Irked up front today on envelopes (curses to whoever uses a metric shit ton of tape to secure the well designed return envelopes). I’ll likely put in some time up there in the near future, as the woman who usually does it is out for an ill spouse. Oh, well.

I signed up for spiced nuts for our snack day Monday. I’ll just make a double batch when I make them for the Holiday tea.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Well, it’s Wednesday and I don’t know what to make for dinner. So I’m making thick, bone-in, Shake 'N Bake poke chops. We don’t have any potatoes, so I’ll just heat up a canno corm. The Missus likes gravy with her poke chops, but I don’t want to make two cups of packet country gravy. I’ll make about a cup using bacon drippings instead.

Goo wants gooshy fud, but I’m a big meany and don’t serve it up until 4 of the clock. She has a dozen minutes to wait.

Good evening all. Spent most of the afternoon either swimming or sitting in the Jacuzzi since it was raining outside all that time. Did 2 miles of backstroking today, then came on home and ate a Chee-burger to put the calories back on. Rain has stopped but it brought some colder air with it, temperature is down to 47F now and heading for 38F tonight. But at least the garbage and recyclables are out at the curb.

Didn’t know you could get gas from fog…

FCM, glad no dents to the car.

Oopsie, nice going on the Xmas present, bet Wife BFF will be thrilled. Hope the performance reviews are without drama and enjoy the party.

shoe, hope the night shift runs smoothly.

red, good on ya for reporting things when they are wrong.

And that’s all for now. We’ll see if anything exciting occurs before light out.

I just got word that my brother’s dear wife Toni died today, after a long battle with interstitial lung disease.

That works too

I would like to hear more about this. Do you put the banding on wood or on fabric that will go on the furniture? If it goes on the fabric, could you please send links cause that sounds like something I would use at least a couple of times a year.

All appliances get pulled out and cleaned behind once a year. This also allows us to inspect any connections to be sure they haven’t worked their way loose over time.

I found a reddit sub that is nothing but pics of things that fit perfectly. I waste much time there, but not as much as I do at the stolen dog bed one. So many little kitties owning big dawg beds while the dogs are sadly laying on the cold hard floor next to them, LOL!

I know several people who would like to downsize but can’t afford it for the same reasons as you. How are you sleeping now that you’ve somewhat gotten used to the noises?

One of Hub’s cousins is the grandson of the man who founded their church. He is also a pastor and lives next door to the church. He also has the keys to the reception hall so family get-togethers often happen there. As usual, his family are planning a Christmas thing and are hoping we will also be there.

Today Hubs was saying something about how Cousin Linda always started planning so early and we needed to start thinking about what we will be bringing. I told him that Linda was late this year because of her health scare and that it was next week. Que deer-in-the-headlights look.

I’ve already made presents for the gift stealing thing (he’s seen them) and he’s eaten two test batches of flan (which travels surprisingly well), so that’s another reason I’m going to murderize him after this is all over. He sees and hears but he just doesn’t fucking listen.

Oh, that poor woman and poor you. I hope she is able to recover fully.

Please understand that I know nothing about brain injuries, but if she is supposed to stay quiet and calm, I wonder if pot might be helpful. There are some Indica strains that leave me happily thoughtless while I do nothing but scratch kitties and stare into the forest. It might stop her brain noise…but don’t even consider such a thing without talking to her medical team first. I could be super wrong and I wouldn’t want to make things worse.

I got a Secret Santa box from you once and thought it was very festive!

I’m sorry, I was reading that with rose tinted glasses  You are right about location counting, developers were advertising homes in Phx starting at half a mil, the same in Prescott. The new homes being built in the Lakes start at 350 g. It’s all not good.

I’m glad someone paid attention. I agree that there must be rules about that sort of thing.

I am quite sure that the state didn’t send us home when the water went out was because they cared about us, they only did it because they had no other choice. They would keep us there all day with no power or internet and they once made us sit out in the parking lot for a couple of hours in the rain when someone smelled gas.

Sear the chops and then put them in a baking dish. Mix a can of cream of chicken soup with half a cup of water and three tablespoons Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper to taste. Pour over chops, cover and bake at 350 for 45 minutes or until the meat is up to temp (165F). Now you’ve got pork chops and gravy.

I tried to do 800 yards last week. I think I’m going to just stick with 650 for a while cause that hurt for a couple of days.

It rained all day today. It was wonderful, sometimes it just drizzled and a couple of times it poured sideways. I just love watching it.

I waited for a lull in the rain before putting peanuts out but the fat squirrel saw me almost as soon as I walked around the back of the house. Then a smaller interloper squirrel thought it might want a peanut or two and the big one not only kicked the squirrel out of our yard, he scared it into running across the highway and into the forest behind the moldering house.

The fuzzbutts were very entertained and we’ve learned that Jolene does that chittering thing when she really wants to hunt her own dinner.

Hubs is feeling much better than yesterday. He wasn’t a happy camper, his hard day took it out of him. I got a call from his nurse today, she said they want to wait a week to schedule his stent/whatever to allow his body to recover from the radioactive dye.

It looks like we will be going to the VA hospital in Huntington which is good because it is the second best VA hospital in the US but bad if he has to get opened up again. His family will want to come and it is a long drive for them. (He’s the youngest of his generation)

Sounds good. Only, the only ‘Cream of’ soup we have is mushroom.

Use that instead, it will work.

I’d use milk instead of water, but that’s me. The Worcestershire is something I haven’t tried in this, but will need to next time I make it.

That’s what I usually use in this dish, and it works fine.

Howdy Y’all! Been home for a while and doin’ some Netflix and chill. We had lasagna, sallit, rolls and peach and cherry cobbler with ‘niller ice cream. I had the peach and OYKW had some of both. I am not a big fan of cherries. He is a fan of both.

It’s more like this. You iron it on, heat melts the glue and sticks it to the edge of plywood, to fakey-fake real wood.
Pre-Glued Wood Veneer Edge Banding: 7/8" and 2" Wide

Mostly got my shop emptied, well after tomorrow, will be. Still need to get rid of a really nice table saw and run out table. Had a friend of a friend come by today and take a shit load of plywood scraps away. Much rather they go to him than me having to pay to throw them away.

Mrs. L.A. asked what we’re having with the prime rib for Christmas Dinner. I suggested baked potatoes, or creamed spinach with feta, or Brussels sprouts… She said baked potato. ‘But feta spinach sounds good too.’ So I’ll make baked potatoes, and creamed spinach with feta.
