(Old) Up, Up and Away in the MMP

Oh, man, do I ever know what you mean! It’s a curse, isn’t it? And I get it about the naps, too. I’m just the same. I wanted to take a nap so bad this afternoon, but I forced myself to not succumb. We have a planned power outage set for tonight from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., and I want to be sure to sleep straight through it.

Ugh; so basically a walk in the park, huh? Seriously, I know you’re facing down a lot of misery in the next few weeks. I will cross everything in the hope that it’s for the shorter period of 2 weeks only.

I was glad to do it, and I already calendared the next time when I can. As you, Cat Glove, JtC and Bbbooo point out, it’s important.

Poor Nelson!

If I’d realized it was that easy to offload them to someone else, I’d have tried donating years ago! My coach (for lack of a better term) at the blood mobile was quick to point out that people who give blood statistically live longer than those who don’t. Not why I do it, but a nice side benefit if true.

VanGo, I am truly sorry for your ongoing misery. I’ve only had food poisoning once, but it was a lulu of an episode and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I hope yours passes (forgive the pun) fast. At least you have extra Peach Time!

There is nothing Ollie will fight harder than someone messing with his feet. He just hates it. I tried the routine that’s worked on every other pet I’ve ever had, to slowly and gently get him used to having his feet handled before even attempting to clip… it never happened. We shan’t discuss how hard he fought when we arrived at the Suspended Burrito stage of my efforts. Needless to say, it wasn’t successful and it didn’t last long. Like minutes. Three. Ollie: “Treats be damned! Don’t touch my feet!!” I’m glad GG is smart enough to surrender.

Fear wasn’t the deterrent. I genuinely thought they didn’t want my blood. I don’t know if it was a memory that got mixed up (probably) or if standards have changed, but with an extreme blood shortage going on, I just thought it was past time to try again. Glad I did.

FCM, I’d probably like SIX, too. I’ve always been interested in that particular history. Glad you enjoyed it!

Such welcome news that you’re stitching again! Your hand will remember pretty fast, I bet.

swampy, ooff, good news on getting the A/C going again. Glad it was just a tripped switch. And thanks for the kind pond wishes.

Metal Mouse, I promise to keep you updated on pond remediation success/failure. With emphasis on success!

Cat Glove, we’ll miss you, but it sounds like you have a really fine respite planned. Enjoy every minute, and it will be great to hear about it when you get back! Nice that your next door neighbor’s mom’s visitation went so well. May we all live lives worthy of a similar farewell.

Oopsie, the latest Lego creation is adorable. I hope your head is soon better – do keep track of that.

I’m a little surprised at how tired the blood donation left me. Glad I had nothing much planned for the rest of the day. I’ll know for next time.

Ollie and I hung out after a little toddle/romp around the place, and I took care to drink lots of fluids. Dinner was a cup of bean soup with ham that I made a couple weeks ago and froze. Beans to replenish iron.

Hopefully tomorrow will be more productive. Or not.

Have pleasant evenings, all!

Our reservation at Au Comptoir was for 17:30. We got there around 16:50. They didn’t start serving until five of the clock, so we went over the menu. It’s a very small place. We estimated 32 or so seats. Before and during dinner, ma femme had two rosé pampelmousse cocktails (Rosé wine “L’Orangeraie”, fresh grapefruit, splash of simple syrup), and I had two classic negronis. At five, our waiter (a native French-speaker – they all were) brought freshly-baked bread. By ‘freshly-baked’, it was literally hot out of the oven. For appetisers, The Missus ordered foie gras, and I ordered tartare de wagyu. The tartare was very good, but the foie gras was better. We both ordered the magret de canard. It’s the first time I’ve had medium-rare fowl. Most excellent. The Spousal Unit had chocolate mousse for dessert. I think it only took us about 45 minutes to get home. Virtually no wait at the border.

I napped. Spot groomed my head. I had a Sazarac and Asian BBQ stirfry for dinner.

I just got back from the Monthly Night Out. There were some new faces, which is always good. About three quarters of the way through dinner, I started have to go number one. Understandably, I am rather hesitant to use a public restroom while presenting as Mollie, so I held it. I didn’t have an accident on the way home, but it.was touch and go. I probably should have bit.the bullet and gone at the restaurant.

I’ll post pics tomorrow.

Good night, all.

{{{{Mollie}}}}

Okay, finally home from Late Night.

Young Manager-Trainee (who is, I’m sorry, but he’s an asshole even under good circumstances) was being such a PITA that Alternate Manager couldn’t get rid of him fast enough AND made some muttered comments about him later, which quietly got the attention of the rest of us b.c. she’s normally the absolute pinnacle of cheerful professionalism.

You gotta TRY HARD to get under her skin.

Yeah, he’s the one who made extremely not-okay comments about Sprinkles a while back, so we’ll see how this whole “training to be a manager” thing works out.

Okay, that’s enough silly work drama. Below the line is a direct quote from our own Stern Night Nurse, with pic of her beeuuutiful Moxie.

Moxie on my first day home after 20 days of full time day and night grandma/au pair/nannying with the grandkids while their father (my SIL) was putatively out of state on professor business. I might have slept at home 5 of those nights but it was from midnight til 7am and then I flew the coop again after refilling her water and kibble bowls. My neighbor across the street checked my picture window for Moxie posing for passerby admiration when she walked her Westie so I’d know if something was amiss with da Mox.

I’m an old lady-even my eyelashes are exhausted.

Please post the pic and the explanation on the MMP if you can. It’s beyond me but I’d like my Mumper friends to know where I’ve been for three weeks and it ain’t a cruise, but it did involve a lot of Legos, jigsaw puzzles and priceless snuggles.

Imgur

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/57f with a predicted high of 21c.69f and cloudy. Weather app says “Overcast fucking sadness”. Yes, it’s cloudy but the sun’s already out so not very overcast at all.

The trains had aircon which was a bonus, the trams didn’t but at least they have windows you can open. A lot of hotels are in older buildings so aircon’s not always practical or possible but both places we stayed provided fans as well. Pavement seating for bars and cafés provides a good deal of shade though, but there’s not much relief from any of it when the air’s so hot.

VanGo I hope you’re feeling better today, that doesn’t sound pleasant at all.

red I’m sorry the antibees are giving you such a tough time, I hope you start feeling better and have more energy soon. It’s always good to have such helpful neighbours when you’re poorly though.

Yesterday was a lovely lazy day here, I did laundry and foraged for lunch, but that was about the extent of my activities. We watched a film called “Obsession” which is a supernatural horror film and definitely would have given me weird dreams!

I was up reasonably early and have been slurping tea while waiting for 'im indoors to surface. I plan to do the grocery shopping before lunchtime as I need bread and am out of the type I like. I need to wait for him to let me k now if he wants to come along, or if there’s anything he wants me to get for him. There’s a list on the fridge door but he seems incapable of writing things on it…

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 76 Amurrkin out and mostly clear with a predicted high of 92 and partly cloudy for the day. There is a heat advisory in effect as well. I think OYKW may forgo deheathenization, so I envision goin’ to the nine o’clock service. I shall also attend the three o’clock thing I am involved in. I mentioned goin’ to get stoner food after I attend that for today’s main need to feed and OYKW agreed that would be acceptable. Outside of all that, stayin’ inside and in the a/c is planned.

Cat_Glove that sounds like a nice memorial service. Have fun on your trip and be safe!

Oopsie Donkey Kong looks way cool. I was quite the DK player back in the day. Hope your haid is less sore today.

BrightTree I have to agree with Ollie about feet. I do not like my feet to be touched. I have never participated in Maundy Thursday foot washin’ because of this. I am a podiatrist’s nightmare. ICK!

FlyBoy that sounds like a nice dinner. Glad y’all had no problems at the border.

shoe thanks for the update on BBBoo and the Moxie pic. I believe that the “manager-trainee” perhaps shouldn’t be in that role.

BooFae glad you had a lovely lazy day. We grocery shop together which works well as both of us have the same goal to get in and out asap.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Dunno how it works over there, but I always go to the second hand shops in the posh areas cos that’s where the good stuff is, even though I don’t live there…

If anyone asks me what my career plan after the PhD is, that’s pretty much a summary. I can:
grow herbs :check_box_with_check:
blight crops :check_box_with_check:
know enough scientific names and weird terminology that I may as well be speaking in tongues :check_box_with_check:

Anyway, I should get on with the day before it sneaks away from me again.

We were discussing yard sales which led to thrift shops which led to thrift shops in retirement areas. In the Ocala development where FCD’s parents lived, as you might imagine, neighbors were dying all the time and their heirs were always trying to get rid of all sorts of stuff that they didn’t want or need. If you lived hundreds of miles away and were trying to sort out your parents’ estate, you probably didn’t want to take everything yourself, if only because of the cost of transporting it.

The thrift stores around Ocala were absolutely loaded with lots of really nice stuff from kitchen gadgets to knicky-knacks to entire rooms of furniture. That would be the place to go if you were starting from scratch. Around here, tho, really great finds are rare. If you’re lucky, you can find clothing that you like in the right size. Still, it can be a fun adventure if you’re bored during store hours.

We’re promised temps under 80 Ferrets today with much rain beginning mid-morning. Or afternoon. Or not so much rain. So whether I commit mowage is a crap shoot.

We shall see. Happy Sunday!

I’m sure you’ll all be pleased to know that grocery shopping has been accomplished. 'im indoors did not come with me, but gave me a list of things he wanted. Now I can be a sloth for the rest of the day!

She did! We had a good visit with her and caught up.

A sunny Sunday today and 66 Fairy Tights at 0715. Biscuits and gravy for breakfast in a bit. Sunday is the one day I don’t make breakfast and they make a decent pot of sausage gravy in the kitchen.

Otherwise, it looks to be a quiet day.

Here in Indiana, folks who have passed their 65th birthday may fish without a license. Other than that, elder fishers still have to comply with a handful of other regs about fishing, such as catch limits.

Back when I was a fisherman, the sliver of my brain that’s inventive kept trying to come up with ways to get fish legally. I came up with two things. I got one of them built, but the Parkinson’s took away my ability to remain standing while casting and setting the hook. Standing and moving around in a boat became risky.

Anyway, here’s the two ideas. For all I know, they’ve already been done. 1. The electromagnetic lure. Some fish find prey by sensing the pulses of energy in the prey’s muscles. I had a friend who made lures, and I had him make me some with a little piece of refrigerator magnet and bits of very fine wire sticking out. When you move a wire in a magnetic field, you get electro-magnetic energy pulses. Will that attract fish? Maybe.
2. The radio-controlled boat lure. Once while I was on a fishing trip with friends I saw one of them playing with a radio-controlled boat, which was nearly 2 feet long. He even had it towing a little waterskier behind it. I thought, “What if, instead of a little skier, it was towing a fishing lure?” Well, that’s as far as I got.

We saw the first episode of Best Medicine on Netflix. It looks promising.

Okay, I’m caught up. See ya later.

And a good Sunday morning to everyone. Have made the NY Times Sunday run (and got another pecan sticky bun, my calorie counter is going to hate me but they are so good…) and will dine at the Texas Roadhouse in a few hours, so that takes care of my morning. It’s 80F already and heading to 97F so outdoor activity will be limited to getting from on air-conditioned site to another as quickly as possible. Outside of the usual gym sweatage, nothing much on the agenda for today.

Cat Glove, and I thought I did a fair amount of planning for my trips…I am not in your league, while I organize things to do from home a lot of my travel is catch-as-catch-can, which means I miss neat stuff but also see other neat stuff–so I guess it balances out. Enjoy. And glad the neighbor’s Mom got such a nice sendoff.

Oopsie, that is a clever Lego. Hope you head is feeling better this morning.

Flyboy, sounds like a marvelous night out.

Mollie, that’s an issue you’ll have to face sooner or later…or wear pads in your underwear (I do so on occasion, but I’m old…).

Shoe, I hope the Manager-Trainee improves his attitude or he’ll find employment as a manager to be…difficult. Staff can make life hard on an A-Hole manager.

And much and many thanks for the picture. Looks like two very happy beings.

Nut, as career plans go, that is…not to bad, actually. Good luck with it.

FCM, hope it does cool down and rain some, no rain in the near future down south here. And haven’t browsed in a thrift shop since picking up several sweatpants/sweatshirts late last year, may have to do some browsing.

Knots, never been a fisherman, but your ideas are interesting and I would bet they have been tried by other intrepid fishing folks at sometime.

And that’s all for Sunday Morning. Couple of hours before I need to dress and head out to Dinner, so will while away the time on the Internet. Take care all.

Ya think?

He IS improving, but the bar was set pretty low. There have been many dark mutterings among crew, so Swampy is in good company.

Oh, and I got a lovely new burn on my wrist last night, precisely parallel to - and nearly on top of - an existing scar from doing precisely the same thing.

I joked with Alternate Manager that clearly SOMEone didn’t learn her lesson.

Good morning.

It’s 58F and mostly cloudy. It’ll only reach 76F, with morning clouds and afternoon sun. We warm up for part of this coming week, but on Saturday, there is a 48% chance of blessed rain. I really hope we get it. Temperatures will hover in the high 70s and low 80s for all week, though.

VanGo, I’m sorry to read that you’re still feeling poorly. I hope that today is a much better day.

Red, I hope the rest of your time on these meds passes quickly so you can start feeling better.

JtC, yay for being able to stitch a little again!

Shoe, I don’t understand how that guy is still a manager-in-training given his past history.

Flyboy, that sounds like a terrific dinner!

Today would have been my dad’s 86th birthday. He’s been gone for many years now, but I still often dream of him and count those as visits. I miss him terribly at times.

I spent time puttering yesterday and taking care of the posies. I did not work on garden expansion/reclamation.

Laundry is done, so other than the usual tidying and maybe some roll-sucking, there isn’t much that needs to be done around here.

We spent several hours being forced to listen to some crappy garage band from a block or two away. They were bad, and it’s not the first time we’ve had to listen to them. This area didn’t used to be so noisy; between the obnoxiously loud cars and motorcycles, fireworks, and people imposing their music on others, it’s just become an unpleasant place to live. This used to be a nice area. Now, I’m surrounded by oblviots and I’m sick of them.

Mr. Taters wants to ride bikes tomorrow, but we shall see. He needs to renew his damn tabs, and I’ve been telling him consistently since May to do it. No, I’m not doing it for him. Strange hill to die on, but I carry all of the administrative household running around here, and that is ONE thing he can do for himself.

Hm, I seem to be somewhat grumpy. Sorry about that. I need to lighten up.

I loved the pic, BBBoo!

Okay, on with the day. I guess I’ll see what happens when it happens. Please take care of yourselves!

Unfortunately, being an obnoxious asshole at times isn’t a fireable offense.

(Sheesh, if it was, this country’s unemployment rates would be … different.)

Oh, I get that, but he is not management material, and that should have been taken off the table.

Assuming they hang around…

You need to get these!! very stylin’!

I didn’t know these existed any more! Do garage bands play at school dances? They did back in my (olden) days.

I actually shopped at Weis today - they had some loss leaders that were worth the trip. One item was their premium french vanilla ice cream that will become part of the Mexican ice cream on Tues. Plus their bakery had rye bread that’s really good! So if for nothing else, I will return for the bread.

I also whacked the weeds and high grass around the shop and the paint shed - just in time, too. We just had a sudden burst of rain. So Otis is inside. Guess that rules out mowage.

I boiled a dozen eggs - some will become deviled eggs for Tuesday’s lunch and the rest will be egg salad. Plus I’ve pulled some chicken out of the freezer and I’ll be cooking it up to be chopped for chicken-apple-grape-pecan salad.

For the moment, tho, I think chillage is in order.

You need official gov’t permission to ride a bicycle?

Stand your ground.

“Should” is a very powerful word.
