Over the years, I’ve managed to fry a few of them, so yes, they are a thing.
Yay!
It rained a teeny bit on my way home from the doctor’s. That cooled it down almost immediately from 101 ferrets to 85.
Today, before I left, I took Nelson out and the neighbor puppy was out too, so they got to play for a little bit. When we rounded the corner, the toddler in that apartment was playing trucks in the front window and pointed, squealing perro, perro! He was adorable.
Howdy Y’all! There’s a series on Netflix, Best Medicine that’s worth checkin’ out. It’s set in Maine and is funny and quirky.
I use a whole smallish chikin, boiled (duh!) rather than parts cause I like both dark and light meat. I shred it and then kinda have fun with it. I like finely chopped dill and sweet pickles, Granny Smith apple finely chopped, celery seed, a little paprika and/or cayenne pepper for a little kick, a couple stalks of finely chopped celery, salt and pepper, boiled aigs (I use at least half a dozen cause this make a lot of chikin sallit and the chopped aigs just really make it) and mayo. I mix and taste until I decide it tastes right. If you like other stuff like pee-kahns, grapes and so forth I say go for it as well. Mine is kinda simple, but folks like it and, most importantly, OYKW and I like it.
JtC HUZZAH! And there was much rejoicin’! Glad you can start Tai Chi again. Can you drive yet? Hope the weather doesn’t get too bad up your way. I see you got through a TC workout. Also, the monster is definitely worth checkin’ out! Maybe you could arrange for a cage match between Moth Man and the Flatwoods Monster. You would make a mint!
VanGo some folk can’t find their way out of room with an open door. Those two nice ladies are those folks.
We didn’t discuss driving. She said my only restrictions were weight lifting or supporting and I did not ask about driving to avoid risking a NO.
So, yes, I will be driving myself to PT on Thursday and will also show them how well I can do a TC squat. (squat almost to the floor with arms curved low, knuckles brushing floor, then slowly stand upright and curve arms over head until hands reach prayer to the sky position. Repeat twenty times. Its much easier than it sounds!)
Well, I’m way behind, like more than a week! I’ve read, retained some but mostly will just have to catch up as best I can.
red, I so hope you get good news at both docs. Everything crossed. You’ve been through a lot with all this.
Nellie, yayyy for your daughter’s fantastic news! I’m sure even better things are in store, but this is a fine first step for her.
JtC, I’m so happy for you!! Free of the sling at last! And already taking on a TC workout. Wow! You are amazing.
Gorgeous photos as ever, mollie! And congrats on moving forward with the endocrinologist. Just think what joy is in store!
doggio, I missed your whole vacation, but I guess the important thing is, you didn’t. Sorry you’re already back at work, but I’m sure they’re very glad to have you back. That tore-up asphalt was crazy.
swampy, if Best Medicine is the show I’m thinking of, it’s cute, for sure. But it’s a total – and I do mean TOTAL – rip off of the British series, Doc Martin, which is wonderful (IMHO, natch). I watched a few episodes, but I couldn’t shake my disgust at such a blatant steal.
Your chicken salad recipe sounds awesome – I will have to give it a try! I think simple is often best.
I’d love to say I’ve been massively busy and the pond is fixed and Ollie won first prize in a Dachshund Beauty Contest, but none of that happened. My life has been filled with administratrivia and running dumb errands and oh, I don’t know. Just stupid day-to-day stuff.
Pond Guy has ordered the materials for repairs, but I haven’t heard that they’ve arrived yet so I assume they haven’t. I hope it doesn’t get left too long.
Ollie is fine and no longer molting. His fur is growing back. Very slowly, though.
Dinner is a chicken pot pie I threw together to use up odds and ends of veggies. It’s cooling now so I don’t weld my tongue to the roof of my mouth.
Not really, I struggled to complete it, but I feel SO much better now and I can move so much easier.
I really do need to show off to my PT so he can change my treatment plan. Currently the plan is to try to get my arm over my head and I’m well past that tonight.
I can sure feel it though. It hurts so good! Common baby, make it hurt so good…
I think that’s the way a lot of Polish families that were Catholic were. All four of my grandparents had numerous siblings. I know that my paternal grandmother had a sister in Poland who gave birth to 14 children. Since my aunt had been unable to get pregnant, she adopted one of the girls. It was very tough on my new cousin, she was either 3 or 4 when she came to the US and had a very tough time psychologically of being ripped away from the family she knew who spoke one language to come to live with strange unknown people to her that spoke a different language. And they changed her name; she was born on Christmas Eve so in Poland her name was Eva but my aunt changed her name to Carol for Christmas Carol. Poor child was so very confused.
Heck, I was hoping to be able to get back on the mmp yesterday afternoon but after being away for 3-1/2 days, there was a lot to catch up on. Today was even worse, I was going from dawn until now. Didn’t get home until after 9pm.
Worked 2-3/4 hrs, drove to a northern suburb to have lunch with daughter and 2 cousins that lasted 2 very fun hrs, then to daughter’s to spend time with Bella-first she immediately rolled on her back so I could rub her which I did for at least 20 minutes then we went for a 2 mile walk. Drove almost home then remembered I had to go to the store to buy some presents for the summer staff whose last day is tomorrow. Came home, immediately filled Hubs pillbox; it really wasn’t the right week to do so as he has 2 pillboxes so I normally fill them every 2 weeks but since we won’t be home next week, I wanted to do it today so we don’t have to drag all the pills with us on vacation. Then I sat down to eat and was only halfway through when my phone started buzzing and a friend asked if I was still going to pick her up to go to the St Vincent dePaul meeting. Whoops, I had emailed her yesterday that I would and it was already 10 minutes past when I said I would pick her up but by this evening it had slipped my mind. So hastily finished salad and most of dinner then quickly drove down street; she was halfway to my house. Now just back from St Vincent dePaul meeting and I have to wrap the presents then rush to bed as Hubs has to be at the hospital at 6:15 tomorrow morning for his cataract surgery. Whew; what a day!
Once again I’m unable to read the 73 new messages so Yays, Nays, Hugs, Noogies to all as appropriate. We’re almost to the hump.
Oh, one thing that happened today is that my average gas mpg changed from 41.9 to 42 mpg; this is after 75k miles. Go Ford Fusion Hybrid!
Up from naptime, having a Manhattan, with cheeseburger, fries, and corn on the cob. I was going to catch up on YouTubes, but it was acting wonky.
Cool!
To be fair, I’m not having to work multiple other jobs to support my life style, and I get OT. Which is not nothing. Plus I’m making the same as most retail manager jobs, but working 10-40% less.
Yay!
When I lived in Da Hood and I was walking Maggie Wonderbeagle, I’d regularly get a tsunami of kids running out to per her and chant “Perro! Perro! Perro!”
Indeed.
Nice. I get 31 city/42 highway, which isn’t bad for a 12 year old non hybrid..
Evening all. Did some shopping at the Mart of Wal this afternoon and got a little gym time in, then came home to a mid-day applefest (an apple, a mini-apple pie, and a cup of applesauce) which held me until dinner time. Nothing much else accomplished, did unpack and unwrap the new chair and it awaits my attempts at assembly tomorrow, but otherwise a quite and RDOS night. It’s still 82F outside and a heat advisory is going into effect, next week we might make it to 100F. Oh joy.
And was going to post an afternoon message but !!squirrel!! and I forgot, so a lot to get covered tonight.
Mollie, thanks for the follow-on. I need to re-read THHGTHG again, been too long.
JtC, looks like your getting the brunt of the rain, we’re due for a hot and dry spell so I might have to get the watering equipment out and give the lawn a good soaking. And hooray for the no-longer troublesome sling. But don’t overdo or hurt it again or another part of your anatomy may be in a sling…
Cookie, glad you voted, ours is next week and while the outcomes in November are pretty foreordained I will exercise my rights and vote.
J-Bats, that’s…one of the more unique sentences I have read in some time, and for the MMP that’s saying something…
doggio, I always take two towels with me to the gym, because you never know when an extra will be needed…
Nut, it’s hard to keep track of this timey-wimey stufff sometimes. And glad your friend found some living space (with room for visitors…).
FCM, know what you mean on fitting things. Still have no idea how they got the washer/dryer into my house. And Mickey D’s is pretty good here, it’s Arby’s that messes up my order.
VanGo, ah, those youngn’s, they grow up so fast…
No. No it’s not.
Bright Tree, but we dote on stupid day-to-day stuff here! May Pond and Ollie do well.
Cat Glove, I hope Eva/Carol did well once she figured things out. I’m getting about 32.6mpg on my Hyundai Hybrid but it’s a bigger vehicle so I’m content with the range.
And that’s all for this evening. See everyone on Hump Day.
Some Mumpers may recall that at the end of May, one of my employees – one of a handful of project managers who report to me – quit without any notice and without a word to anyone. She’d been performing poorly for a while and was one week into a formal Performance Improvement Plan (PIP), and she had a super crappy attitude, never acknowledged that any change was needed, never asked for any guidance, etc. The method and timing of her departure were a giant “f*** you.” I had to step in as acting project manager, and I finally hired a backfill who started a week ago.
Welp, turns out the light at the end of that tunnel was an oncoming train: early this morning, another project manager quit…and Thursday will be his last day. His story is more complicated, and not quite a “f*** you,” but yet another person on my team is leaving with hardly any notice[1]. The systems engineer who helps run that project will be able to pick up some of the project management duties, but it’s too much for one person and I will be stepping in to help with the programmatics (while still training the new hire).
I have been hiring pretty much continuously since I started this job 17 months ago: mostly because of organic growth (a good thing), but this will now be the second backfill in less than three months. I seem to always have at least one open requisition, and I also sometimes participate in interviews for openings that my boss and grandboss have (like I will be tomorrow, and one day next week). It’s extremely time consuming. I am SO. TIRED. of hiring.
Yay!!
I’m fairly certain that Best Medicine is actually deliberately and openly the American version of Doc Martin. Dr. Best’s first name is “Martin,” and Martin Clunes even guest starred on an episode as Dr. Best’s father.
I watched a handful of episodes because of my deep and abiding love for Josh Charles – and my admiration of Annie Potts – but ultimately the show didn’t grab me. I was never much of a Doc Martin fan, either; I guess I’m just not their target audience.
I tripped coming off the two steps at the back door of the credit union. Naturally, I had to do it in front of everybody (boss and two cow-orkers). Bloodied the pointy bit on the outside of my left elbow. I seem to have pulled a muscle under my left chest. I’m guessing it will be sore in the morning.
The electrician was talking about how he’s going to have to saw a hole in the attic to get to the living room. (There have been three (?) modifications to the house in the past 90+ years, so part of an old roof is blocking part of the attic.) This morning, Mrs. L.A. pointed out what appeared to be a ‘hatch’ in the living room ceiling. Might be a unit, or it might be individual planks. Anyway, we’re not going to find out.
I suppose if I’d thought about it, I’d have worked out that they couldn’t possibly have so completely done the American version like the British version without the express permission and assistance of the British folks. It just hit me wrong when I started to watch it. I’m not a super fan of the original British version, but I liked it well enough to watch it all the way through. I did enjoy seeing Annie Potts in the new role – I always liked her on Designing Women. And it is sweet that Martin Clunes guest starred on the new show. Thanks for sharing the information.
I can get lost with a map in my hand, and apparently managed to get badly off-course tonight in a city I generally wish to be out of ASAP with Waze running.
Tis expected to be scorchio, by Scottish standards today (and tomorrow). It feels like it’s gonna be hot. I shall need to water everything in pots and the tunnel and fill up the bird bath, before I commence today’s pacing and crying session. On the plus side, it should help the 'maters ripen. I think it’s supposed to be a lot worse in the South- actual hot, not just Scottish hot.
Yay for sling removal JtC! Now you can use the sling to throw stones at people! When I had back surgery the set of exercises I got given by the physio seemed to be designed for someone with far less range of motion as well. I could easily do the ‘advanced’ section, which was supposedly for when the early section became easy, which it claimed would probably take a few weeks or maybe months, on the first day… I was unusually young to need the surgery at the time, but I guess it makes sense to err on that side and give people exercises that are too easy initially rather than ones they just can’t manage.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 21c/72f with a predicted high of 32c/89f and sunny. Weather app says “It’s fucking warm. I have an idea. Get the fuck outside!”
Yesterday was fun, we went out for lunch at our favourite restaurant here. It’s full of plster saints and church relics. Then we strolled down to the river and sat watching boats going past. Pottered back through the town via a couple of bars, and went to a steak restaurant for dinner.
We finished the night at the Irish Times and were in bed by midnight. We will be leaving at lunchtime to head to the station for a train to Ghent where we’re staying for a couple of days.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’ YAWN ‘Tis 75 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 91 with possible rain/tstorms/apocalypse mid-afternoonish. We shall see. Provisions will be procured this mornin’ and I shall commence with makin’ chikin sallit. I just don’t know how I keep up such a gruelin’ pace! Sup will be grilled chikin breasts, sallit, and cheesey garlic bread. An easy and tasty sup for a hawt Summer’s day.
JtC I get that. You can always say, "well, they didn’t say I couldn’t drive! Now I have John Mellencamp in my haid. Not that that’s a bad thing.
BrightTree so glad Ollie is better! Hopefully things move forward on the pond soonest.
BooFae sounds like a good time is bein’ had by all.
