(Old) Up, Up and Away in the MMP

Starting the day with 68 Ferrets, headed to upper 80s. Apart from a run to Food Lion/Aldi, I have no plans. I called to order pellets yesterday and they were supposed to email a link so I could pay for them, but no link has been forthcoming. I’ll give them till this afternoon before calling back.

Last night I watched a show about Les Ballet Trockadero de Monte Carlo on Tubi. I was impressed that the guys could dance on pointe so well. It’s a fun watch and I recommend it, even if you’re not at all into ballet. In fact, I recommend Tubi for the variety of programs available, as long as you don’t mind the occasional commercial. It’s a free app, hence the ads, and decidedly eclectic.

For the moment, tho, surfage continues. Happy Wednesday!!

Skywatchers are excited today, chattering about a solar eclipse and a meteor shower. Mosquitos are abuzz, too at the prospect of lots of extra prey milling around.

Morning all. Have had cereal two mornings in a row, mostly because the remaining milk in the bottle had an expiration date of today, so that has been dealt with. Need to go pick up my prescription refills here in a bit, just ran out of pills today so the timing was perfect. 78F heading to 93F and it’s only supposed to get warmer into the weekend. Outside of taking the garbage bin to the curb tonight, nothing too special on the agenda.

Oopsie, I hope everyone else on the team is content, putting new folks in jobs and training them is a job that wears on you, as you note.

Flyboy, I have a scar on my left elbow where I fractured it and had to have it operated on back in 2000. Hope your not so sore today.

Nettie, I can usually do Ok with a map, but have gotten lost with them to, glad you did make it out alive.

Knots, stay cool–and mosquito-free.

boo fae, sounds like a relaxing vacation so far. Enjoy!

Now you have him in my head…again, not a bad thing.

And onwards into the day. Have a good one all.

Good morning.

It’s 62F and cloudy outside. Another day with AM clouds and PM sun, with a daytime high of 81F.

JtC, yay for no more sling! Despite being further along in your healing, don’t overdo it!

Oopsie, man, that is hard. We seemed to go through a time at my former agency where there was a constant stream of moving on and hiring. It was exhausting.

Bright Tree, I’m glad Ollie continues to improve and fingers crossed that the pond is fixed soon.

Since I had to go out to mail back the sweater my daughter left behind, I decided to visit the nursery I go to up here on the Hill. I did not buy one single thing, and if the truth be known, I’ve reached the burnout stage. Given the weather we’re having, I have two more months of posey care, at least, but my heart isn’t in it as much. Oh, I’ll continue feeding, watering, and weeding, but the season is ending. The nurseries have next to nothing, too. After that, I drove back the other way to the UPS store, shipped off my daughter’s sweater, and then stopped to pick up lunch for my husband and me. Once home, I puttered here and there, but didn’t accomplish much of note. I’m feeling restless, for sure, but I don’t think the trip will happen this week.

In other news, without even trying, I’ve been dropping weight. It’s not extreme, but those numbers keep coming down. I need to lose weight, so it’s not a bad thing. Yesterday, I was able to put on a top that I haven’t worn for a really long time, and it wasn’t tight or even form-fitting.

Boo Fae, it sounds like a nice vacation so far!

Welp, time to get on with the day. Please take care of yourselves.

last night while watching ryan hall, y’all, one of the cameras they showed was in seymour indiana. big mellencamp mural. that had “small town” running through my mind.

Yeah - That didn’t happen. I didn’t take my trazadone, as I wanted to be functional today, so I didn’t fall asleep until about 2:30. Mrs Magill let me sleep until about seven-thirty. She didn’t realize when I had come to bed. Oh - and I seem to be breaking out with eczema on my right eyelid, so it’s just shaping up to be a fun day all around.

On your recommendations I put it on my Netflix watch list to start after I finish The West Wing (how I missed that the first time around I’ll never know) and rewatching Dark Winds.

I’ll take things I never thought I’d hear my wife say for $1000 please, Alex. I was trying to apply eczema cream to my eyelid. Apparently, you should use your pinky or ring finger to apply things to your eyelid. At least my eyelid no longer stings.

That’s awesome; happy for you :tada:

We’re home too. Hubs is in bed after I put the 3 different drops in his eye. I took the presents down to work and gave them to the young lady who is leaving for college to begin a masters program tomorrow, she was quite overwhelmed. Only one of the guys went in on it with me so we took her into an office so she could open them in private. I’m feeling a bit lethargic as I set my alarm for 5:05 since we had to be to the hospital by 6:15. I tried finding a spot where the lighting wasn’t like for a plane landing but couldn’t find much of a comfy chair or position. Next time in 2 weeks I’ll take a pillow. At least I was wearing a hoodie and pulled the hood down over my face. Kept it that way when I went to the bathroom, well just covering the tops of my eyes and was wondering what people might have thought, like if I looked the way Trayvon Martin did.

flyboy I’m hoping it’s just a little soreness and not any kind of a break. Yesterday my cousin was wearing a cast on her lower arm; she had tripped coming down two steps, lost her balance, fell and broke her wrist; she’s late 70s and she was told it would take 8-10 weeks to heal.

Not true./female

ETA: I should say: I suppose it might be a good signifier in a public restroom, for example. However, I have been in bathrooms with lots of women and even the girly-socialized ones didn’t use a particular finger for this. I’ve seen it in media. Possibly even the girly-girls I dated weren’t socialized to do this.

Back from food shopping. When I popped the trunk open at Aldi, I was met with a bunch of stuff that was supposed to go to the convenience center - luckily, there’s one in Charlotte Hall, so I swung by there on the way home. I also stopped at the local farm store for some sweet corn and their amazing peaches. I wish I’d gone for the bi-color corn - the white stuff I got isn’t all that great looking. But I’ll cook it in the air fryer and that should help. I hope.

My main chore this afternoon is an experiment with making the fried ice cream. I want to practice before serving it when my mom is here. So supper will be corn and ice cream! Yum!! I guess I should look at a few more recipes before choosing. Onward!!

Her logic is that it applies less pressure to the eyeball, and is less likely to harm it. But then, she also has Graves Disease, so she knows from eyeball pressure.

I’ve seen that mural! When I lived in Tennessee, Seymour was usually the lunch time stop when going to see my dad. One of my uncles by marriage was originally from Seymour and his nieces and nephews went to school with JM.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, infused and fixing to do KP. I’ll swing through Kroger for some fruit and tortillas today, but other than that, RDOS.

When I got home yesterday, my apartment smelled funny. It still smells a little funny. I did see the bug guy spraying outside and he was from a different company than I’ve seen before, so they may be spraying a different chemical.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Theory from my makeup-wearing teenage years (55-60 >gasp< years ago) was that your pinkie finger was smaller and therefore exerted less tugging, dragging or potentially delicate eyelid skin damaging potential. Same for applying concealer or foundation right under your lower eyelids (the dreaded under eye bags-skin that is very thin and vulnerable to damage).

Prep work for fried ice cream is complete. Rather than form the ice cream into balls, I pressed it into a cupcake tin, so there are 6 getting all frozed at the moment. I crushed and fried the cornflake/cinnamon mixture and it’s cooling in a bowl. I plan to dump it in a gallon zippy bag and put the ice cream hunks in there one at a time to coat them. Then back in the cupcake tin and back in the freezer. I also fried a tortilla in butter, then sprinkled it with cinnamon sugar. I’ll cut it into quarters, put an ice cream hunk on each, then drizzle honey, top with whipped cream, and drizzle chocolate over top. Unfortunately, I don’t have any maraschino cherries, but I’ll get some next week. plus my recipe called for hot fudge, so I may get some of that, too, instead of just chocolate syrup.

Tonight’s dessert will be interesting. I hope it’s good interesting and not “Well, how interesting…”

We ended up going to lunch with the niece at Kramarczuk’s in the downtown area. It’s an eastern European place founded by a Ukrainian couple back in the 40s and a longtime landmark in MSP. Ridiculously expensive - though huge - sandwiches. My pastrami on rye was $17. I could only eat half of it. They’re also famous for their butcher shop products. So my plan to make pasta is postponed.

Temps have jumped from 69F at 0700 to 81 at 1100.

Exercised and puzzled and no plans for the day.

And the cupcake tin wasn’t a good idea. Maybe if I’d used cupcake papers? I’ll try that next time. For now, I kinda, sorta formed balls of ice cream and they’re back in the freezer.

I am not much of an experimental chef. Dammit.

Did they know the Ingalls?

Yesterday daughter & I arrived at Pizza restaurant on time. Cousins didn’t make it in for more than 20 minutes; they said they were on time but couldn’t figure out how to pay for parking. Anyway, while we were waiting I studied the menu intensely. I said to daughter that the entrees and sandwiches looked good but why would you come here to Como’s and not get a pizza. Their pizzas are outstanding. Yesterday we had a Jam Session which has prosciutto, fig jam, gorgonzola and fried rosemary. YUMMMMM! We also always get a Spring & Beet salad. It’s enough for 4 people. It has spring mix, lemon poppy seed, beets, corn, grapes, carrots, pecans, goat cheese. If it wasn’t for the fact that daughter hates mushrooms, I would have gotten a Wild Mushroom Fun-Guy pizza; I’ve had it before and it is outstanding; has roasted wild mushrooms, shallots, roasted garlic, fontina, truffle pecorino. One cousin had the Vodka Margarita pizza, the other just a pepperoni pizza.

have commenced breath-holding as I saw a sign on way home yesterday that said $1 Billion.

YAY, YAY, YAY for both our daughters!!! I was going to post on Monday the good news that my daughter got a job but never got back to the mmp then yesterday was crazy. Also, I was just a tad concerned that our good news might cause some uncomfortable feelings for you if your daughter hadn’t also gotten a job. I prayed for both of our daughters a lot last week on the lengthy drives to and fro Massachusetts. I am so happy for both our daughters!!!

Not all the way caught up yet; up to post 80, but I must go lay down now before I go face down on the table. TTYL.

*sulks*

We’re s’posed to be getting 90% of a solar eclipse here in a couple of hours, but apparently someone let the clouds know, and they’ve all gathered excitedly to watch, with little chance of clearing off in time. I want to see the sun covered by the moon, not by clouds, dammit!

I’d just figured out a plan for where to go for a good view which probably won’t be crazy busy, but I don’t think I’ll bother unless it looks like clearing up.

The nice thing about clouds, if they’re not too thick, you can watch the eclipse without glasses, as we did in 2024.
