(Old) Wassup, doc, in the MMP?

coppertone Happy B-day!!

I had some really nice interactions with visitors at our new water feature, plus in just standing back and watching figured out some stuff. The prevailing winds ensure that parts will be wet, so’s we gotta put some non-slip tape on those surfaces.

But I am pooped, not used to a 50 hour work week anymore. The back is grumpy, as are the knees and feet.

FCM Hope the engine fix holds up. I’ve spent way too much time upside down in an engine bay trying to find that last little bugger. Hence my no longer being a boat guy.

Well, it’s been an interesting string of days. That is, in the Chinese curse sense of interesting. Our electricity was off for a few days after a tornado paid a visit near here (in Bristol, I think.) A bunch of trees got uprooted, but I didn’t hear about anybody getting seriously killed. My left sinuses are hurting the whole side of my face.

I hope the sore hand in the House of the Fairy Chat is better by now.

My vote on the Mollie poll goes to Mollie Magill.

Major, albeit short, deluge with t-boomers just passed thru. Wonder if it has or will hit DC? Dunno what’s party time, but radar shows a significant bit of weather hitting there this evening. We may get more in the wee hours and the temp has already fallen. Maybe we can open windows tonight?

Mostly chill evening, except for giving Otis his ear meds… in his ears. I think FCD overdoes it, based on how much the mutt shakes out. But my opinion was soundly rejected, even tho we went thru 2 weeks of meds in 3 days.

And so the weekend winds down…

Waves at everyone, I’m about four Margaritas in so speeling might not be the best. Tonight I learned that some Mexican places can sell Margaritas to go, so Harry and I each got two for the road. Hubs got coffee.

Much tea was spilled and a lot of laughter and some tears happened.

The folks across the street don’t actually own that house, one of Harry’s brothers does but he doesn’t live there. He lives in a condo in Florida with a series of young people who seem to do nothing but have sex with him while the other is going through his wallet.

He must be happy with that life, he’s been living it for decades, but this makes things hard when the occupants of the house want to have the driveway heated because they have to ask him permission to make structural changes and he’s forgotten what winters or ice or mountains are.

Oh, yeah…they are at about 32G now for the heated driveway. And yes, I did not want to know what their monthly electric bill was. They are paying more than our last mortgage payment was and now they will be heating water to melt ice in the winter. I’ll never ask again.

The “home health nurse” we see going into the blind neighbor’s place (Harry’s other brother) sees to certain “needs” but he still needs to see a medical professional which is why we see the transport van on a regular basis.

And Harry isn’t going to move, that was a silly thing his kids were hoping for. This is his home, he knows everyone and everything. One of his granddaughters and wife will be moving in with him, one is a real nurse and the other is an office drone who wants to be a tradwife so that will work out nicely for them and for us, because the one who wants to be the tradwife also wants to raise chickens and a cow.

And I’m kinda fading…well zoning and thinking about fireflies but - @purplehorseshoe I know about the t-shirt quilts and that has always been the plan. But it has never happened and I’m kinda thinking that if I haven’t made that a priority in the last 20-30 years, I probably won’t now.

Bright tree…That dress sounds like it was made with so much love and holds so many memories. I only have one thing like that and do understand your feelings. My super mature grown-up response to looking at my thing and thinking about what to do with it is to put it back in the closet and let it be a problem for the future.

Would cotton balls help keep the mess off the walls?

We just had another HUGE storm pass by, lots of hard rain, some hail and all blowing towards DC. (otoh, trump would probably love seeing rain falling on the wrestlers oiled bodies, he’s so badly closeted its not funny.)

Well, I’m up later than I expected and should head to the shower. We have a 10 am funeral to attend tomorrow and want to pretend to be respectable. (Hubs now has a dark blue button down shirt and black dress slacks. I think he liked her too.)

OMG, just thinking about Harry and family has given me a mindworm that I have to share.

Opps its too racy for the dope.

Harper Valley PTA

I was wondering if the storms affected you. Glad you didn’t get blown away.

Evening all. Dinner at Red Robin was OK, but FCM is right, a Monster Burger and fries, with tip, was about $25 and if I had gotten a salad, it would have been close to $30, which is steakhouse range. So don’t think I’ll be heading there again in the near future. Then got to the gym trying to lose some of those calories and missed the rainstorm (the tunder-boomers stayed north of me). Been watching soccer and participated in a soccer meeting via chat (we have a tournament next weekend), so that has kept me moderately busy and away from the MMP for awhile. So 25+ messages to wade through.

Oh, speaking of soccer, one nice story from yesterday. I was the assistant referee on the parent’s side, and often at the quarter and half-time breaks I let one (or more) of the kids in attendance with their parents hold the flag for me, gives me a break and the kids think it’s neat. Half-time I presented it to a young girl with several even younger siblings (I always ask if they would like to hold it for me, I just don’t thrust it at them…). Coming back from halftime and walking across the field (the parents are seated on the opposite side from the players) I saw the Mom leading her (my guess) 2 year old out to meet me with the flag. I took it gently from him and shook his hand, with a big smile on both the Mom’s (and my) face (and hopefully some of the other parents).

Ok back to scrolling and reading.

flyboy, might not be cheap and I cannot say how long it will take to recoup the cost, but more insulation is something I’ve done and not regretted. And reading further you were quite the ball of fire today! Sounds like you’ve earned a cup of that good coffee.

Taters, happy rearranging.

Oopsie, know what you mean about yard work, I mow and that’s about it (do have TruGreen come out and treat the lawn during the year). And taking it slow and easy on the unpacking is the way to go, IMHO.

JtC, nice technique with GG on pill-taking. And glad you got Harry out and about instead of his sitting and brooding.

Bright Tree, hope Ollie is happy and exhausted and best wishes for your friend.

Mollie, nothing wrong with too much bacon (can you ever have too much bacon?).

Cookie, been giving away stuff to a group called Purple Heart every month since they are willing to pick up at my place. So most of the old or non-fitting clothes get recycled that way. As for the stuff, would it be worth enough to consider getting an auctioneer to sell it?

Nut, sounds like a nice walk and hopefully the blisters won’t last long.

FCM, will cross all appendages that engine will give you no more problems…but Murphy is persistent and cunning, so take care.

VanGo, glad the new feature is meeting with approval, but hopefully the 50-hour week will be a one-off thing.

Knots, had my electric out for a whole week about 10-12 years ago when a tornado took out a bunch of high-tension wires nearby. Glad no one was seriously killed (or even humorously killed).

And it’s 9pm, there is one more soccer game to watch and then off to Slumberland. Y’all take care and I’ll catch you on the next MMP.

I cleaned, dusted, and vacuumed. I changed Spot’s litter. I took out the trash and recycling out. I napped. Dinner was poke loin with Pig Salt, sweet N.O.T., and broccoli and cauliflower with Italian seasoning. Watching the Stanley Cup finals and having a Wisconsin Old Fashioned.

This. But the results are epic.

Still EEK! about the power.

And good for Harry’s grandkids moving in. And yay margs to go.

Bacon is not the answer.
Bacon is the question, and the answer is “yes.”

The Spiced Fried Chicken thighs was pretty good. They were very juicy. It’s been about twenty years since I’d last pan fried chicken. I used my ceramic coated Dutch oven, which contained the spatter.
Recipe:

I served it with sautéed zucchini and a salad, and my tummy is very full.

HEY, HEY WHADDA YA SAY!
THE CAROLINA HURRICANES HAVE WON THE STANLEY CUP!!!

I’m going through last week’s “journal” tonight, and saw that I hadn’t responded to this:

We lucked out in getting our Highlander Hybrid in 2023. Supply lines were still not good, and some dudes in a Ford Explorer decided to head-on me in our Honda Odyssey. Our first choice would have been a Sienna Hybrid, but the waitlist for that was literally months. They Highlander Hybrid rolled off the truck the day after we talked to the Toyota dealer. We were doing “Butt checks”[1] of our top three cars. We arrived at the Toyota dealer, and the sales rep came running out saying he was about to call us, because three Highlander Hybrids had rolled off the truck that morning. We bought one. It was New Years Eve. We’ve always gotten the best deal at the end of the month. The dealers get desperate off load inventory then.

  1. How many butts of teenage boys can fit in the back? ↩︎

I may have moved outta TX but I will never not say, “Go Stars!”

Aw, crap. Thx for the reminder. Now I gotta { old lady noises } get back up.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 76 degrees Ferret Height(24.444 Centipedes), and I am still insane with joy.

But I think the Canes won that trade.
