(Old) Wassup, doc, in the MMP?

Happy birthday coppertone!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. It’s raining outside, so it will be an indoor RDOS kind of day.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 62F and sunny. The sunshine will be plentiful, and our expected daytime high is 92F. Bleh. Too hot. But it’s sunny, and I can get some yardwork done this morning.

Happy Birthday, Coppertone.

FCM, such a bummer about the boat. All the money and time you’ve put into the boat, and now this. I hope the latest fix idea works.

Bright Tree, Ollie sounds wonderful, and I’m glad he’s finally accepting some cuddle time.

I love all the pet pics. I know I’m severely overdue for both pet pics and garden pics.

Since it’s going to be awfully warm today, I’ve decided a good salad will suffice for dinner. I’m going to pick up the ingredients in just a little bit. While there, I’ll also pick up the ingredients for my potato salad, since my husband has a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for that, and I’ll make that tomorrow.

Other than that quick trip to the store, the usual kitchen tidying, and some transplanting, I don’t have any other plans.

I am probably going to do some rearranging in my yard and gardens. Right now, I have my bird feeding station with two hanging pots, a birdhouse, and a bird bath in the paver area of my yard. I originally put it there to make any messy bird clean-up easier. However, I no longer feed the birds.

Since I’ve been working on filling up that shade garden, those hanging pots kind of obstruct the view from inside. So, I think I’m going to move that station, pots and all to the slope where the shade garden is located. That way, I can continue to enjoy the birds splashing around in that particular bird bath (I have two), and see the pots, and see the shade garden. I’d really like to just finish out that paver area, so I can rearrange some of the raised planters and the pots. But digging out sod, leveling the area, laying sand and gravel, and heaving 16-inch and 24-inch pavers are hard on this body. I could probably do it, but it would take forever, and let’s face it, the cost of the pavers, gravel, and sand adds up. The original plan was to redo the oldest section of pavers and add the last 8X6 area. That’s quite a lot of pavers and work. I dunno, we’ll see what wild bug invades my brain next.

Okay, time to get the day started. Please take care of yourselves.

Happy birthday, coppertone!

And good morning, everyone else! I barely recognize myself this morning, because it’s only 9:35am and I’ve already – a couple of hours ago, even – done a little yard work! Me! Of the black thumb! The new house has hardly any back yard to speak of, but enough that there was an overgrown something-or-other right by the fence that needed to be trimmed. Long-handled hedge clippers to the rescue! I also sprayed some Roundup between the few bits of concrete that are out there, and on a vine that seems to be threatening to take over. And I discovered that the back gate doesn’t open/close/latch well – but it does open/close/latch, so anything else would be on me. I’ll get it fixed at some point, but it’s quite low on my list; just above improving the general look of that space, which is currently pretty much dirt and weeds. I need to take the electric hedge trimmer to the evergreen that’s next to the front door (it’s blocking the house number sign), but it’s still too early for that kind of noise and it’ll be too hot later; it’s already 80° on the way to 90°. Another day.

I think I overdid it yesterday. The only thing the movers did wrong was stack a few boxes too high in BR3: I had to pull three heavy boxes down in order to open them. I also carried the basement chair up to the LR, decided that I like some acrylic shelves better under the LR window than the small wood bookcase I’d put there, and carried the heavy-ish wood bookcase to the basement (to hold the drink fridge that’s being delivered tomorrow). That was in addition to general unpacking, bagging all of the packing paper, organizing, cleaning, etc. My back and legs aren’t happy with me today, but all of the unpacking is done now! :tada: There is still some organizing to do, including a few things that need to be moved from the top floor to the basement; I’ll gradually start taking them with me whenever I naturally go downstairs. I’m still adjusting to the stairs and need one hand free for the bannister whenever I go up/down, especially if I’m carrying something heavy, so I’ll just move one thing at a time. It won’t take long.

I’ll be getting my first Instacart delivery at the new place this morning, I have a little work to do before lunch, and at some point later on I’ll do laundry; otherwise, I don’t plan to do much today. I might start tackling the four Lego sets that broke when I moved them: three of them should be pretty straightforward (just reconnecting things), but with one of them I basically need to start all over. I won’t mind. Maybe next weekend I can finally start building one of the five new sets that are waiting for me.

:two_hearts:

Something definitely had all of their attention! LOL!

Ha! I’ll be keeping it at work, though: the only place it will be appreciated.

We had insulation put in the attic along with sealing our crawl space last year. BIG difference in our heating/cooling bills and in our comfort levels. I highly recommend.

When we were getting quotes, it appeared as though the crawlspace was more important than the attic, though. All three of the salespeople focused on what they would do to the crawl space and were all “oh yeah, we can spray some insulation up there while we’re here”. Anyhow, do what you can, I’m sure it will help.

The skies opened here a few hours ago so I took a fan out to the porch to try to blow the storms in the correct direction. Here’s hopin’

I highly suspect that is the case, but I wasn’t born to this culture and still get confused at times. Happily, Harry is more than willing to advise me even if his usual advice is “Fuck em, do what you want, it ain’t hurtin’ nobody.” (if that’s the answer, the money will go to buy healthy snacks for the library box)

Mrs Harry wasn’t a fan of Mexican food so we are going to take him to Huntington in our attempt to be sure that Harry and the Mrs hadn’t been there or discussed going together.

George took his last pill this morning. He’s so good/stoopid. All I have to do is walk up behind him while he’s stretched out on the floor, tip his head up so his nose points at the ceiling, pop the pill into his now open mouth and hold his muzzle closed for a few minutes. Then I give him ear rubs and skritches and fool him into thinking nothing happened. Hopefully he’ll keep falling for it for another five days, he still has liquid to take.

Oh, wow, big flashbang and the lights are flickering. We probably won’t lose power, we haven’t for over a year but yanno…

We have no insulation under the house; just a ‘vapour barrier’ (wrinkly sheet of plastic). I’ll have to look into that.

I’ve just remembered: When we were having the roof worked on about a decade ago, one of our guy’s guys was startled by a skull in the attic. AFAIK, it’s still up there. Probably a raccoon.

Happy Birthday, coppertone!! :wrapped_gift: :balloon: :birthday_cake: :clinking_glasses: :tada:

Nettie, they are so adorable! How could I have overlooked to name them? But I missed a lot of beloved Mumpets on my defective list, so please forgive me. What a great piccie of your sweeties! And I’ll echo swampy: They could be sibs. Thanks for sharing the pic.

nut, enjoy your walk and your day!

swampy, hope you have a fine time at whatever Rites you attend. So long as they’re not Last Rites, you should have a fine time. As for fried quail, it’s an understandable craving. Mmmm. Quail!

doggio on fire today with the puns and picture of Master Spot. Thank you for always brightening my day. :sun: Diet Rite. Gawd.

BooFae, good luck with EDS – I’ll cross everything along with you for the proper outcome. Your dinner last night sounded delicious, although I think it needed a tad more cheese.

QFT. Enjoy your quiet day, mollie, and let us know how the spicy chicken thighs come out!

Why else do you work so hard to keep the calories under control? Life is for enjoying – no guilt for that pecan roll/sticky bun!

Oh, with the wonderful puns!

red, RDOS days are the best, I think. Hope yours is gratifying.

taters, sounds like you’ve got a nice day planned, too. Please give scritches to Buster and Maisie from me. I’m looking forward to more pics of them – as well as your fabulous garden!

BTW, I meant to pass on a suggestion for your viewing enjoyment: I’ve been watching a French series called The Wagner Method. Surprisingly not a copy cat of Professor T, but similar. It’s subtitled, so I can’t watch it for too long at a stretch (like you, I like to divide my attention and subtitles are not conducive to that). But I’ve found it fun so far. Plus it forces me to do better with my own woeful self-taught French. Bonus. Sort of. Anyway, you might like it. I found it on PBS Passport, which I find to be the best value of all for watching tee vee via subscription.

oopsie, go easy on yourself today!

JtC, stay safe in that crazy weather. It’s great you’ve mastered the art of administering medication to GG!

The day has begun as planned, with me arising at 5:00 a.m. to bake. The house is thrown open with cool air displacing the warmer air from yesterday along with the heat from the oven from bread-baking. Today is going to be a cooker, so I’ll close up the house shortly. The bread comes out of the oven in approximately 7 minutes, so that’s all the time I have to natter at everyone this morning.

Ollie and I will be off shortly to go hang with my ailing friend and her husband. He likes to cook us lunch on Sundays, so I provide the extras. Today I’m adding a chocolate zucchini cake, bread and wine. Ollie gets to run his fool head off around their fully-fenced 5 acres, and my friend and I get a chance to have a good walk and a chin wag. I’ve missed her and I’m worried about her health. I hope she can get some good medical help soon.

Have terrific days, everyone!

Happy birthday coppertone!! Hope you enjoy your day!

peedin Petunia definitely seems to be enjoying the practice

Bright Tree I can see why you’d struggle to toss something like that wedding dress. A lot of love went into the making of that. But I am also the sentimental type.

Seanette what a beautiful pair of kitties!

I’m so sorry but I laughed :joy: I can only imagine how discombobulating that had to have been but sounds like it went well! Also, if the spicy chicken thighs are any good post the recipe.

JtC that’s very thoughtful and kind of you to consider so closely where best to take Harry for dinner. I hope he’s doing okay.

It rained here overnight and knocked the temp back down. I’ve got all the windows open to take advantage of the cool air and of course the kitties are loving it. Not much planned for the day other than laundry. I need to give the bed sheets a good soak in OxiClean before putting them in the wash. I should probably get that started…

Don’t be. Half of what I write, I write to amuse myself. If someone else is amused, then bonus!

Also, last night, Mrs Magill reminded me, with an excited expression that after Fang packs up his closet, and they move it to Texas, there will be a whole closet for Mollie’s things. I had to root around under the sofa to get my jaw after it had fallen off completely.

I had pulled out some bacon from the deep freeze yesterday and asked Mrs Magill if she’d like some for breakfast. She, the smart woman she is, suggested I fry up the whole package because I have ripe tomatoes in the garden. She then fried a couple of eggs for our breakfast. Bacon and eggs for breakfast and BLTs for lunch. Our arteries are gonna love us.

I’m gonna have to hit the Aldi’s for chicken thighs. There’s the nail salon next to it tempting me. Decisions decisions.

When we retired in Alaska and decided to move south, we really didn’t pay much attention to clothing. We ditched tons of books (though not nearly enough) and tons of paper going back decades (my wife’s tax returns from when she was 18  ), but clothing just didn’t register. After we’d been in Portland for awhile, we went on a clothing purge and donated bags and bags and bags to a local women’s shelter. All of our work clothing that went back many years, coats never worn any longer, ties, suits, even a tux. It’s amazing how much accumulates and how heavy it all is. And our closets still bulge, albeit with more leisurely wear.

A cool and windy 62F today, with some rain on the way throughout the week. We’ve been looking at some you-pick berry farms that we may try to visit. I could go for some strawberries that actually taste like fruit instead of cardboard.

Delivered our health directives to our PCP on Friday, so tick that box. Also gave the paperwork for executor to our niece last week. Now I need to do a photo inventory of ‘stuff’ for the offspring to look at. I’m reasonably sure they will want very little of it, but it’s another box to check. The artwork is a real concern, as I’m pretty sure they won’t want much - if any - of it, and some of it was fairly expensive and one-off. I should start a thread for ideas, I guess. I ditched eBay a couple of years ago and really don’t want to deal with it again.

On with the day. Oh, and the potato-leek soup was excellent!

[sullen step-child]YOU’RE NOT MY REAL MOM![/sullen step-child]

Make sure you keep a copy close at hand. My father kept my mother’s stuck to the fridge. My brother was able to retrieve it and bring it to the hospital before they’d begun intubating her. She did not want that.

In my nursing experience it does lead to a quicker recovery and is worth seeking out a surgeon who can offer it. The recovery is much quicker, well nigh onto amazing.

FCM is so right too. You have to do the work of rehab and do your PT program scrupulously every day to get that quicker recovery, less pain and full function and mobility. Every exercise, every time you’re supposed too, every day.

Well, the walk was nice. I’ve not been there before, and it was a very good recommendation, starts off along the shore of the estuary then through a load of woods, along a field and back down a quiet country lane, for about 1.5 hours total, with really nice views, lots of little birdies and pretty plants and very few people after the first 5 minutes, and just the right amount of shady bits for today, which had turned sunny. I will definitely go back sometime.

On the downside it’s the first time I’ve gone for a Proper Walk in these boots, and now I have blisters on both feet.

The other nice thing about that walk was that coming back led me past the gooood strawberry place. I only got one punnet of the top grade ones- normally I get 2 punnets of the grade 2, but last time they were a little disappointing, I suspect because it had been a bit overcast all week, and they do need sun to get full flavour. These ain’t cheap, but having scoffed some already, they’re worth it.

I also called in at Lidl on the way home, and bought a bottle of gin; I’ve been meaning to make rhubarb gin for a while. It just involves bunging gin, rhubarb chunks and sugar into a big jar and shaking it a bit every day for a couple of weeks til the sugar dissolves, then forgetting it in a cupboard for a few months until you find it in winter and get all excited. It’s now set up anyway. I couldn’t quite get all the gin the the big jar, and, well, I’ve never heard of malaria occurring in this area, but I did just go for a walk along a river and one can’t be too careful, so I sat out in the sun for a bit and made sure the malaria would stay away. I forgot to buy lemons though, so scurvy is still a risk. Hopefully some more strawberries will do the job.

At the risk of a jinx, the engine is :+1:

The initial problem was clogged heat exchangers. The followup issue was not enough coolant in the system - it needed to be bled. We ran it for a good long time and the temp never got above 175 Ferrets (we were topping 220 Ferrets when the alarm went off.) Next step is going out to the river and putting it thru its paces, but I’m pretty sure all is fine. So huzzah at last!

We’re home now - FCD is just fried. Part from bad sleep but, I suspect, mostly from relief. I think the rest of the day will be max chillage, and I may suggest supper out, just because. We’ll see.

But, at last, WHEW!

Nowadays they upload the document to “My Chart” so all physicians on your team can access it. Pretty sure it’s SOP at hospitals now, or at least in larger urban areas.

Rex had a copy of her DNR on file, but the ER docs were more concerned with emergency resuscitation than paperwork. They only stopped when my brother was able to present the DNR.

In other, nicer, news: I brought in about eight tomatoes. BLTs were had, and they were good.

I have deboned the chicken thighs and am making a stock out of the bones now. Chloé shall be well pleased with her chicken flavored popsicles.

It’s not even noon yet, and I feel like I’ve done things today. Mrs. L.A. was not feeling well this morning (‘gut trouble’ and coughing), so we didn’t go to church. I finished off the two high-carb crab cakes w/Hollandaise for breakfast, made humongous batch of macaroni salad (with diced celery, cubed cheddar, and sliced olives) to The Spousal Unit will have something cool to eat during the week, washed the pot, lid, colander, etc. that I used to make the mac salad, transferred the other dishes from the sink to the dishwasher, poked around Farcebook and SDMB, took out the trash and recycling, and brought in a ladder so our guy can get into the attic again. Oh, and I’ve typed this paragraph, and it’s still not noon yet.

Well crap! One of the things I wanted to do today was to set up the new desktop and printer. The back is way different then the old one and I can’t figure out how to connect the monitor. I may have to get BIL’S input.

Twelve pounds of coffee have arrived; three bags each of Dark Roast and French Roast. The new exhaust hose for the a/c is out for delivery.

Howdy Y’all! I did end up goin’ to the nine o’clock service as OYKW decided to be a heathen. A big heathen cause when I returned to da cave, he was out at the cee-mint pond. I declined to join him as I felt like I had a bit too much sun yestiddy. We did the leftovers for lunch and then accomplished nappage. A huge tstorm came through around three p.m., so we sat out on the back porch to watch whilst we staved off scurvy and malaria twice. The biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’ for men’s night tomorrow. I hear thunder rumblin’s in the distance, so maybe we will have some good sleepin’ weather tonight. Now it’s time to go snark at Sweet Magnolias for a while and munch on popcorn.

doggio the absence of music makes it more of a Rite Zero. You have all the Rite but none of the music.

Mollie Rite II has been around about fifty years, so more than half my life, but I cut my teeth on Rite I and can still pretty much do it from memory. Sometimes I jones for some Rite I, so I am glad I have the option. OYKW, whom I converted from Methodist to Whiskypalian, is not a fan, so I don’t make him go to Rite I services. If you do the chikin thighs, do post a review and the recipe if’n it’s really good.

FlyBoy sounds like a nice dinner. You will not regret insulatin’ the attic. It made a huuuuuuge difference in da cave.

Oopsie hooray for the finished up unpackin’. You are smart to keep one hand on the rail whilst goin’ up and down stairs. Stuff will get to where it’s supposed to be eventually. Safety first!

BrightTree good food, good wine, and Ollie gets to run himself tired. Sounds like a good day to me!

BBBoo I saw an article about the Savannah Bananas fillin’ up Memorial Stadium in Lincoln for a game to benefit, I think, firefighters. If you ever get a chance to see 'em, do it. They are a hoot!

MOOOOOOM hooray on the engine fix!
