(Old) Wassup, doc, in the MMP?

Another short heaving day, although I did have to help finish the Twilight packages. One of our clients is the Rollins Animal Lab. Which is fine, except sometimes people send sample boxes to the sealed with duct tape. I really don’t want screw worms.

You can tell when it’s not the first cocktail episode of the day he’s filmed.

Southwest?

I’m paying $6.50 for 11oz. of the Teeter brand.

whatever will be, will be.

I prefer the good ice, too.

What, you don’t want to watch QVC, and the Temu version of Univision?

You’re just a woman of discerning taste. And cute pupper.

It always seems to make ice dams that let go when I take a drink. No, I don’t like straws.

Lunch break, after an almost butt break. I slipped on a muddy patch and did a butt plant. I was more worried about damaging the plant I’d just transplanted. No damage to me or the tiger lily, apart from mud on my shorts and my shoes.

Along with the aforementioned tiger lily (there were actually 4 in the clump) I moved some black-eyed susans (N.O.S.) and a bunch of liriope. I also took 3 sections of cinder block edgers to create the outer boundary of the bed. That way I’ll know how much space I have to plant and I can start working on merging the old garden into the lawn. We’ll need to bring in some dirt, but not a whole lot.

Otis is on The List - he chewed on the brand new hose in the back yard, making 3 holes. Is there an effective tape for repairing such damage? Stoopit dog.

Old ice maker is making ice… slowly, which is part of why I replaced it 2 years ago. At least it’s working. When I was looking for a new one this morning, I looked for what one is considered the best. Google came up with a GE model, that runs from $450-600. So that’s a big no. The one I ordered was on special - around $150. And all things considered, 2 years on the other one is a pretty good run, since I have to make ice just about daily. Someone in this house can’t drink a coke unless the glass is full to the top with ice. Then when he switches to root beer, all the coke ice is tossed in the sink. I choose not to die on that hill…

Anyway, waiting for the chimney cleaners. They should be here any time within the next 2 hours. Should I risk working out back and trust Otis to bark when they get here or wait patiently in my recliner while playing games on my tablet. Decisions, decisions…

Afternoon. Not really evening yet, I came home a bit early due to an out-of-brain error. We’ve been having hail showers and now thunder, with bits of blue sky in between. More dramatic weather than the forecast prepared me for anyway.

Not the most productive day today, but still, I got some stuff done, if not as much as I’d hoped. I was thinking I’d go out and do some weeding to relax, but there appears to be several more big clouds queuing up to dump water on us, so maybe not.

I avoid using ice by the simple method of living somewhere where you only want it about 4 days of the year, so my needs are adequately supplied by a single small ice tray which migrates to a cupboard for the winter. Maybe 2 trays if I’m having a party.

Stove/chimney cleaners are here. Otis is crated and I’m tableting in my recliner. Good times!

Doctors: 1 PCP, 1 endocrinologist (although she fired me at our last visit, saying I no longer need her), 1 gyno, 1 ophthalmologist, 1 dentist. Pills: 2 daily, 1 for thyroid and 1 statin. Been on the thyroid meds since I was 27. I also take daily calcium, Vitamin B6 and D. I try not to talk about them much.

Rain is winding up here today, with temps forecast to get to 61F. Everything looks fresh and happy. Alas, no bun sightings for the past couple of days.

Lily, I’m glad your wife is feeling better.

Our tastes in viewing seem very similar! I’m as like as not to be watching something foreign. Honestly, I don’t care too much for American television. Right now, I’m stuck into an episodic British legal drama on Hulu starring Nicola Walker called The Split. It’s more about family situations than legal stuff. I’ve enjoyed it, anyway. I’ll pass along suggestions if I come across anything I think you’d like, too.

red, it’s wonderful to get back to your own home and life, isn’t it? Scritches to a happy Nelson!

What happens when I’m waiting for a service person or a delivery:

Ollie: Jumps up from his spot on the sofa and barks his fool head off.

BT (me): Arises from the comfy spot to go look out at the driveway. Nothing is there. Ollie goes back to sleep.

A short while later…

Ollie: Jumps up from his spot on the sofa and barks his fool head off.

BT: Arises again from the comfy spot to go look out at the driveway. Nothing is there. Ollie goes back to sleep.

Repeat several times.

The service person or delivery arrives, and BT notices changes in light reflections on the wall that indicate someone is here. BT arises again from the comfy spot and handles the visitor.

Ollie: ZzzzzzzZZZZZZzzzzzzzZZZZZZzzzzzz…

Today is for errand-running. Time to shevel and get that done.

One of the errands is to pick up the wooden buttons I ordered last week from the post office. We did our usual fandango over deliveries. They will deliver to my door if the gate is open, which is kind of a PITA. I got conflicting information about when the delivery would actually take place – Saturday the 6th? Or Monday the 8th? – so I left it closed on the 6th. Which was, naturally, the day they attempted to deliver. No biggie; I will pick them up on my way to do other stuff.

JTC, no, I don’t think I need to stain them. They’re natural maple, which is the same as the butcher block. Yayy! Now, let’s hope they fit…

Off to go be marginally productive. More later, perhaps.

And they’re done and gone. Just under $1K for cleaning 2 inserts (one pellet, one wood-burning), cleaning 2 chimneys, and replacing the distribution blower on the pellet stove (Part alone was over $400!!!) And the tech informed me that the control board was starting to go bad. So I’ve got that to look forward to.

On the other hand, the stoves are 14 years old and the pellet stove runs almost non-stop once it gets cold. And a new replacement would run probably $5-6K, so in the grand scheme of things, maintaining it is cheaper in the long run.

And now that they’re gone, I’m heading back into the yard.

Forgot about my allergy tablet, which I take when there’s pollen which makes my eyes run. Mostly birch and grass. I had an allergist from when I was 3 until about 18 or so.

Today I did the paper work for next week’s appointments. The one is an app from the hospital, the other one is a bunch of papers. They both wanted to know what meds I’m taking.

Made normal rice Krispy treats and chocolate rice Krispy treats, so at least there’s something home made-ish at home. Tomorrow I’ll bake something, but I think I’m about done for today, except for watching a bit of tv.

I actually got things done today. Double yoga tonight.

Dicey - I love Rice Krispy treats.

Afternoon all. Made it to the gym as planned but didn’t complete the workout, as I was removing my left ear hearing aid, the plastic ‘tip’ came off, staying in my ear. I had this happen before and several days of my poking at it drove it deep into the ear canal which needed professional help (and hurt like hell), so didn’t fuss with it, went right to the ENT and they had it out in seconds. Better that than the pain I had the first time. Tip has been replaced and both ears are functioning, may go back to the gym this evening post-dinner and try to get the remaining calories sweated off. Beautiful day, Temperature is piano-grade (88F), and things are drying off.

Mollie, you made the edit, and a cute picture indeed.

red, no doubt I could get a streaming service, but I simply don’t watch enough TV in my life to justify the expense…heck, I cut back on my Direct TV subscription to eliminate a bunch of channels I don’t watch and still pass on 90% of them.

rocky, good luck on the fish-hunt.

FCM, glad you’re ok from the fall, but feeling good now and feeling good several hours from now may be different things. Take care. ANd never have cleaned my chimney, probably because I have never had a fire in it all the time I have lived here.

Bright Tree, Ollie is just worn out from defending you from all those other people…

And onward into the afternoon.

Good evening everyone. Things are very sad here, Mrs Harry died yesterday morning. Harry and the Mrs were having coffee on the porch and he looked away for a moment. When he looked back, she was slumped over and not breathing. She was 86 and in congestive heart failure, so this was not surprising and really not unexpected.

It is still very sad. They got married when she graduated high school, but didn’t actually make whoopy until after Harry got back from Korea - they didn’t want to risk her falling pregnant and him missing everything.

Harry has family and friends, he won’t be alone, but we all privately doubt that he’s going to hang around much longer. He’s in decent health for an 87 year old man, but they were joined at the hip for almost 70 years.

So…I’m around, just pretty depressed about the whole thing.

JtC So sorry for Harry’s loss.

I have a new roof on my garage. It took them less than a day to strip off the old shingles and plywood, install new and clean up. I’m impressed. 'Specially since it was almost 90 ferrets today.

Oh no! Poor Harry! That is a terrible blow. May her memory be eternal.

Patches for a bicycle tire or a tent?

I got a late start grocery shopping. I called for an appointment with the wound care podiatrist that the other podiatrist referred me to. I set it up for Thursday and they told me that my insurance would require a referral from my PCP. No problem. The referral department at that practice had me on hold for over an!d  Finally got that done and hit Joe V.‘s. I couldn’t even postpone that chore because I had cleaned out the fridge before going to Sis’. Once home, I set the groceries on the kitchen counter to take Nelson out. Came back to the refrigerated bag on the fl. There went half the eggs. Oy!

Now for chillage.

Howdy Y’all! Brace yourselves for a shock. Not only did laundry get done, but, mowage was completed! That’s two chores in one day! It’s been a cloudy and decidedly less hyooomid day, so I made the executive decision to take advantage of it and mow prior to the higher temps predicted over the next few days and possible rain. Sup also got made and et. Fartfest has ensued.

MOOOOOOM preach it! The very best place to watch a movie is in my recliner, with popcorn that I popped and a soda I did not pay what amounts to a monthly mortgage to acquire. Plus the bathroom break option of pause. Sorry your icemaker met its maker. Ouchie on the butt bounce!

Mollie hope you find your purty dress soonest. Also Chloè is a keeyooote overload!

Dicey now I want Rice Krispie treats! I make chawklit ones with chawklit chips from time to time. Actually I make Crispy Rice treats since I tend to use the generic cereal.

MetalMouse YIKES! I haven’t had a dome stuck in my ear yet. Have a feelin’ my time is a comin’, however.

JtC so sorry for Harry’s loss! It’s really hard when you’ve lived with someone for that long. I wish him peace in the comin’ days.

VanGo yay for new roof!

I’m very sorry. What an enormous loss.

Oh, JtC, I’m so sorry to hear about Harry’s wife. That’s just so sad.

We’ve had a, shall I say ‘wee’ bit of drama here. The first floor toilet is stopped up and when you try to plunge it, the sink fills up. I called numerous plumbers and no one can come out until tomorrow morning - even the ones who call themselves emergency plumbers. The issue, of course, is that my mom cannot go upstairs to use the other bathroom. And I looked for bedside commodes and there isn’t a place with them in stock locally. So, my comment was that I figure that they’re used to whatever they may find in there in the morning.

Otherwise, I’m working on the damnable progress reports and they’re taking much longer than I hoped they would. I had 24 to write and I’ve 13 so far. They’re due on Friday, so I’m ok on time, but I just want to get them over with. Actually, I think I’ll get off of here and write one before I go to bed.

Quickie night check-in:

He’s such an idiot. But he makes me laugh. I’m really sorry you had to endure the lodged plastic tip in your ear, but you were wise to get immediately to the ENT for help. Must’ve been such a relief when it came out!

Ohh, JTC, I am so sorry. Harry and his wife became an integral, important part of your new journey. And while Mrs. Harry’s death may not have been unexpected, there is no jolt to one’s soul greater than losing a spouse if that spouse is loved – as Harry and Mrs. Harry clearly loved each other. I know you will be a caring and thoughtful neighbor to help Harry through this in any way you can. Don’t forget about self-care, though. You lost her, too.

Great suggestions, red! I’ve got some leaks in a hose, too, and may try these. Sorry about the busted eggs and all the hassles with getting the referral. US-ian medical care: Ain’t it grand?

Good luck with the interminable progress reports, sticky buns, and I hope the plumbing issues are resolved soon. When you pay them, you won’t feel so bad about what the plumbers had to endure. :weary_cat:

Errands got run, provisions put away, Ollie and I have toddled a couple times and all that’s left is for me to rabbit up to grab the mail and close the gate. Then I’m tucked up for the night. Not hungry for much in the way of dinner, so I’ll have the leftover 1/4 little personal pizza I made last night and that will be just right.

I’ve said it before, and unfortunately I’ll say it again. Fuck hiccups.

Otis killed a deadly water snake, and you complain?

Your ways are strange to us.

At least it’s not Double Secret Yoga.

The Invisible Mole People!

Yeah. {{{{{JtC, Harry’s raven, and Harry}}}}

Unless the dog has them.
But hope they stop soon.

Self-fusing silicone tape is on the way! We’ll see if it lives up to the hype.

So sorry to hear about Mrs. Harry. But it sounds like it was a very peaceful, gentle passing, which is surely the best way. May Harry take comfort from that.

We’ll make an early trek to the boat to get the heat exchangers. FCD will clean them in his shop and I’ll continue futzing in the yard. That is, until the heat drives me inside.

The rest of this evening is for chillage.
