(Old) Wassup, doc, in the MMP?

Shared delusions are the best!

:birthday_cake:  Happy birthday, VanGo! :birthday_cake:

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/50f with a predicted high of 17c/62f and a chance of rain. Weather app says “It’s raining. Oh, you already fucking knew that? Then why are you looking at this fucking app?”

Yay! That’s a definite yay as far as I’m concerned. Things will still get to you, and you might take a while to work out the reason, but that reason should never be self-loathing. Remember, you’re a butterfly!

I’m sorry that her attitude isn’t improving, but glad that she’ll be back home where she might feel a bit better. Does she go home with some care plans in place, or have you still got to work that out?

WetOne I’m sorry to hear about Ariel’s ouchie, I hope she feels better soon too. And Ursala Kitteh is a brave lady!

Herald I’m glad Lily made her way home safely!

And the more I despise Farage and his ilk for wanting a US-style system that benefits him and not us.

Yesterday was a busy but productive day and I managed to get quite a lot of stuff done. I got home without too much bother, did my evening chores, had dinner and went to the pub. It was pretty quiet in there, we had a good night of nattering and putting our world to rights. I won’t see my friends for the next couple of weeks as we’ve both got things happening that don’t fit pub plans :frowning:

Got home and was in bed just before midnight, and up just before 6am to get myself to campus. I’ve got a meeting with Troublesome Minion today, I’m taking bets on how long it takes before she has something to say about Poor Unfortunate Person. Then there’s a departmental meeting this afternoon that I have to take minutes for. They’re 2hrs long, and pretty uninspiring, largely because they keep rehashing things they’ve gone over in the last one or two meetings, and are often things that they don’t have the power to change.

No plans for tonight, apart from vegging on the sofa waiting for 'im indoors to provide me with dinner. No idea what he’s planning to cook. He has the makings of chicken chow mein, and the makings for fancy mac n cheese. Who knows?

Well quite… I did actually start writing something about that, then realised I’d be using language that would get me in trouble in the Pit, forget the MMP…

Running late this morning, so I probably shouldn’t be posting.

The rain is due any minute and promises to keep it up until about 5pm. I’ll be inside most of the day so don’t expect to care that much. Biiig bin has already been out and been collected, so I’ll need to bring that in first, then I shall away.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 92 and mostly sunny. We shall have more quality cee-mint pond time today, but not too much as we don’t need to be out in the heat for too long. So outdoor and indoor sloth today. I am in the mood for some down home cookin’, so sup will be country fried steak, peas, butterbeans 'n okra, rice 'n gravy and bizkits. This requires actual effort even!

Sticky_Buns so sorry for the sucky plumbin’ problems. Hope it can get fixed soonest.

And now this…

< AHEM > CLEARIN’ THROAT < AHEM >

HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY DEEEAAARRR VVVAAANNNGGGOOO!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!

Happy. Birthday

Thanks for the medical good wishes, y’all. I brought it up, though, to empathize with Shoe’s situation, and emphasize that the US medical insurance system is broken.

Happy VanGo Day!!!

Eons ago when I made the switch from active duty Navy to reserves, I would have a drill weekend once a month. Each of these weekends began with an All Officers Meeting. And every single one of them was exactly the same:

  • We need to do this, that or the other thing
  • We need to complete this training
  • We need to make sure our minions do this or that
  • No, really, we have to get this stuff done

The reason I resigned my commission and left the reserves was this monthly waste of time. It just wasn’t worth the irritation. So anyway, I can sympathize with your plight.

Today is starting at 71 Ferrets and muggy, on the way to the 90s. I’ll be making a grocery run once Aldi is open, and this afternoon I’ll do bits and pieces of work in the yard. That is, I’ll do a bit then take a break so as not to overdo it in the heat.

FCD will continue to work at home after a trek to Lowes. He’s going to finish cleaning the heat exchangers, then he’ll paint them. I’m glad he won’t be climbing in the engine room for at least one day.

We have to call the vet - Otis has been shaking his head a LOT. FCD cleaned his ears and we got some OTC ear drops, but the shaking goes on. So that’s on today’s list, too. Always something.

But Happy Thursday anyway!

It’s only supposed to get to 65F today, which is about a 30 point drop. Rain, too.

Good visit with the niece yesterday. We mapped out some outings for the next few months, including a you-pick strawberry farm and picking apples in the fall. All designed to get the wife out of the apartment and include a bit of exercise. It was tiring, as all human interactions are these days, but productive.

I’ll probably do a bit of laundry today and perhaps a store visit, but nothing exciting.

Our tomato plant has gone feral with this weather. It’s gotten huge and has lots of flowers.

Busy night and morning, 27 messages to catch up with. Up about 6:30am and have futzing around since then, Big Bowl O’Cheerio’s have assuaged my hunger for the time being. Need to research the digital coupons for my Firday shopping, have some of the list already done. Another hot one, already 80F before 8am and heading to 92F with no chance of rain today (50-50 for tomorrow). Nothing on the agenda, do need to bring the bin in after the trash folks get it, but that is for later.

And once more entering scrolling mode…

Coppertone, my best wishes always, but playing with someone who…well, appears to be missing a few cards from his deck may not be the best move…but in your situation, I hope and trust you know what is best for you and we’ll be here. Best wishes for the eyes.

Sticky Buns, that’s a hassle and a half, I hope they can fix it soon and at the lower end of the costs, but even then, restoring what they tear up…take care.

VanGo, I hope the conversation goes OK; just illustrate some points and how it negatively affects things and she’s such a good boss that doing the ‘right’ thing will only increase her popularity (hey, a little honey helps with the bitter medicine IMHO). Good luck. And a Most Happy Birthday!!!

Boo fae, hope the meeting with TM wasn’t too…troublesome. And …

Maybe that famous Scottish dish, MacMein?

FCM, hope Otis is OK.

Cookie, happy tomato-ing, as long as the feral plant doesn’t develop teeth and an appetite for blood…

And onward into the day…next mission is searching the Kroger digital coupons (ain’t that exciting…). Have a good Thorsday all.

It’s going to be another scorcher today. We got serious rain last night, and there’s a Severe Storm Risk bulletin on top of the Heat Advisory. It’s a little cooler than yesterday, but heat index numbers will be over 100F again.

We use ice in morning coffee, because we don’t like to wait for it to cool enough to avoid burns. For the rest of the day, we don’t use ice. We drink room-temp water or refrigerated soft drinks. I lost my cultural need for ice-cold drinks years ago, and I found that some drinks even taste better at room temp.

My right hearing aid has quit working. The main part seems to be working, because the volume up and down makes a chime in the other one, but the speaker that plugs into my ear is not speaking. I think it’s time to switch companies. This guy won’t answer his phone calls. I found that a different company has a linkage to my health insurance company, so that might be the way to go.

I just did a jigsaw puzzle about State foods, and one was Utah’s “funeral potatoes.” A lookup says it’s a potato casserole folks make for that occasion.

Happy birthday, VanGo!

Happy birthday VanGo! :birthday_cake:

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP before getting sheveled to go to the podiatrist. Not a whole lot shaking otherwise.

Last night, I had weird airport dreams. I dreamed that I was traveling with Nashville friends and landing at BNA. My connecting flights were, for some odd reason, Atlanta, DFW and Bush. However, I was worried about getting my car ferried from Nashville to Houston. So little logic, so much weirdness.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Costco has pretty good hearing aid services.

Good morning.

It’s 47F and sunny outside. The forecast calls for plenty of sunshine, with a daytime high of 74F.

Happy Birthday, VanGo!

Sticky Buns, that is just awful. I hope things are fixed ASAP.

BooFae, I hope the meeting with TM went better than expected. I do not miss meetings…at all.

Herald, yay for Lily’s return. Such good news!

FCM, wow, I remember when Ziva was basically a kitten. Time just flies. The work on your yard is looking great!

Welp, I never got outside yesterday, but that’s okay. Today will be busy. My husband plans to mow the lawn while I’m gone visiting my mother, but we’ll see if that actually happens. If it doesn’t, I’ll do it. I’m sort of particular about it anyway. And, while I appreciate it when he does mow the lawn, it takes everything in me not to go over the spot he missed, or the grass that got flattened, because he didn’t go over it in the opposite direction to lift it up. See? I’m picky. My lawn is no golf course, and most of it was destroyed by the pups, but it’s making a comeback, and I’m trying to help it along. I also weed-whack along the edges and use the blower, and he doesn’t really do that. He’s always kind of in a rush to get things done, and I’m more methodical about it. It’s just who we are.

While I’m out and about, I need to remember to stop at Lowe’s and purchase a water filter for the fridge. And, depending on how I feel after visiting my mother, I may just head on over to the German deli to pick up a few items, since I’ll be right near it anyway.

As for a care plan, I’m sure there is one, but we didn’t discuss it. I know there are therapy appointments, but I am not sure of the rest. If H and D (sis and BiL) are there while I’m visiting, I’m sure they’ll fill me in.

JtC,. Harry is lucky to have a neighbor like you. I know he appreciates everything you two are doing for him. I hope he knows a bunch of internet strangers think very highly of him and wish him well.

My husband picked up his prescription readers yesterday, and he’s thrilled because they actually work. The drugstore readers were actually too strong. He also ordered prescription lens inserts for his VR headset. I’m not sure when they are arriving, though.

Well, I suppose I should finish my coffee and get the day started. Please take care of yourselves.

Good morning. It was 72ºF this morning and muggy (natch). Fang had just gotten home shortly before we got up, so he joined us for half our walk. Chloé was very excited that Second Favorite Human was walking with her. He also discovered there’s a Bojangles between our house and his work. He has offered to pick up a ham & egg biscuit for me tomorrow. Chloé did not appreciate it when he split off from up. She kept looking back at him.

Happy birthday, VanGo.

Sorry - I wasn’t too clear. The reason I was feeling that way, was our old friend, GD. If I don’t catch it right away and practice thought regulation, it can very quickly lead to self-loathing, which used to be my default state. It feels familiar, so it cant take me a bit before I go, “Wait a minute…”

Coincidentally, someone sent me this meme this morning.

Mollie is still learning to stand.

Have you seen what BooFae’s weather app puts out?

Sticky_Buns - Is insurance covering some of it, at least?

I’ve always wondered about that, but not enough to ask.

My cucumber plants are heavily flowered and I see one cuke started. It appears the only 'mater seeds that took were for cherry tomatoes and while there are some flowers, there aren’t many and I have yet to see a bee near any of them. Not a good sign…

FCD has been in a tizzy for several days - he couldn’t find a “green” tote full of sockets and socket wrenches and assorted other tools. We checked and double-checked the boat and the car and the garage and the shop and the basement. He went to the office at the marina, just in case he’d left it outside and someone turned it in. There was $$$ in that little bag.

Well, it’s not green, it’s black, and it was on the floor of the truck that hasn’t been driven in over a week. Go me - I found it!
:star:

There was a cancellation at the vet, so Otis has an appointment at 1130 today. Here’s hoping it’s something simple and not $$$. But the poor dude has been shaking his head till his brains rattle - that can’t be good. And it looks like there will be no yard work today since we leave in less than an hour. Oh well…

Success, more or less, at Food Lion and Aldi, except Aldi didn’t have my fave cereal (again) or my fave frozen green beans (dammit.) But I got a couple of their pre-assembled salads for tonight’s supper.

The rest of today will unfold after we’re back from the vet. Who knows what lies ahead???

I renewed my driver’s license yesterday. I had to go into the office this time. The Department of Licensing (DoL) doesn’t seem to understand how appointments work. I got there three minutes early, and was informed there would be a 40-50 minute wait. I got my 8½ x 11 temporary license, and got back to the office with two minutes left on my lunch hour. I’d thought, ‘Trader Joe’s is a block away. I’ll just pop in to have my picture taken, and then go get something for lunch!’ I did not eat any lunch yesterday. The last time I renewed a license in California at the DMV, I had an appointment and was served at my appointed time. No waiting.

That is the $64,000 question. Even more perplexing is that she wears fly boots (stiff mesh) and the boot was intact with no blood. She was much better Wednesday. She got a full soap bath yesterday then went in front of the fan to eat and dry off. Severe storms rolled in just as I got home.

Ursala Kitteh gets a Solensia shot every 6-8 weeks. I don’t know that it actually helps the arthritis or just numbs the pain but I don’t care. She feels better after the shot. Plus she gets a nail trim. A while ago she came belting into the dining room from the powder room. She only runs like that after she does number 2, and sure enough, she was running because of a rogue turd stuck to her bottom. Which fell off during her run…

It is sunny and really nice now, but more storms are predicted this afternoon. The winds were up to 90 mph in this area yesterday, and took down a row of telephone/electric poles.

Happy birthday VanGo! The world is a better place for having you in it.
Dang about the uncomfortable talk you are planning, but good on you for having the balls to do it.

Both of our giants are in need of a good lookin’ over. Last night Hubs noticed George going to the litter box more often than usual and checked the robots memory. We’re pretty sure he’s managed to develop a Urinary Tract Infection and they are deadly to boy kitteh’s. Females have wider urethrae so don’t get them as often and if they do, they are less likely to get blocked.

The vet at the cat only clinic is out of town for the week, the vet we used when we first got here is also out of town (hmmmm). The vet that fixed Jolene (twice) voice mail wasn’t set up and he couldn’t get through to a person so they are now at a walk-in rescue vet.

Jolene is currently very smol and subdued.

UTI’s are simple to diagnose and treat, any vet should be able to help, we would just rather have one person in charge of their vet care.

Last night we also feasted on the fruits of our harvest. One of the yellow cherry tomatoes was ripe so I brought it in and cut it in half for the traditional sharing of the first fruit. He’s on his own from now on.

My cukes are blooming up a storm but nothing else has happened yet. I might be hand pollinating in a few days.

Getting your vision back after so long really is pretty amazing. You don’t notice how bad its getting because it happens so slow, but when the welder’s glasses are gone the change is astounding.

Had some yesterday  Lots of food has been showing up, with plenty of easily freezable casseroles. There are a lot of people over there, I’m sure most of it will be eaten before going into the big freezer.

Harry’s oldest daughter came upon me wiping down a bathroom today and was outraged that a neighbor had to clean up after her grandkids. She thought she raised her kids better than that and called a family meeting. There is now a schedule hanging on the refrigerator and people are expected to initial it after their hourly task is completed. My name isn’t on it, LOL!

I was doing the 100 Slide, plus loading Bottom White on the 100 North(120 total pieces, so not bad), at least until I got sent ove to the 300 Slide. Everything wrapped up reasonable well for once, but The Supreme Shouting Officer was still screaming over the radio. J and the Senior clerk were both doing the damages, so I ducked out and did my Senior Day shopping. $168, because I bought fresh fruit and veggies instead of beer.

120 minutes. There, I did your job, so you can avoid the meeting.

Better than MacHaggis(mac n’ cheese stuffed haggis).

If they pick up the phone, do it.

I’m using that for the title of my autobiography.

Safe travels to see Mom.

< crosses fingers for George > and {{{{JtC, Jolene and Hubs}}}}

Happy birthday VanGo!

A place nearby sells haggis sushi- meat and veggie version. I’ve tried the veggie one. If you put soy and wasabi on it, it tasted of soy and wasabi. If you didn’t, it didn’t really taste of anything.

Came home early today cos the office was too distracting. I did too get almost all the stuff done, and I may finish it off later, after messing it up twice while in the office cos I was stopping and starting and gossiping and being distracted.

My biggest tomato is now about 1cm wide. I’ve been checking it daily… I’ve not named it yet.
