(Old) Water spots be us, our new MMP

I’m heading out to volunteer at our local Disability Pride annual event out in one of our prettier parks for the day. Of course we are under an Extreme Heat Advisory, with possible heat indexes ranging from 105 to 111, depending which service you believe. I’m no fool, six months ago when the Planning Committee opened the volunteer sign-up I grabbed being in charge of the art display inside the air conditioned pavilion. I’ll see lots of friends and fellow disability rights advocates (or is that agitators of the John Lewis kind of good trouble?) plus visit booths of organizations and perhaps learn of some new resources to spread the word about.

Probably would be a good event to test drive my ‘new’ Ta Da seat cane. We’ll see if I get that organized. Need to remember the charging cord and an extension cord for my oxygen concentrator too, plus the charging case for my hearing aids, so I’ll look like Mooooom coming back from a months long cruise and it’s just for 6 hours.

Afterwards I have about 5 niggling errands spread all over town to do on this, my only non-grandchild caring for day.

Good morning.

It’s a cool 54°F and mostly cloudy outside. We’ll transition to partly cloudy skies later this morning, with a daytime high of 78°F. I am not complaining at all, and am thankful that we’re not experiencing the high temps some of you are enduring.

I guess you’ll soon be boarding your flight, FCM. I hope both the ride and landing are
smooth.

Shoe, I agree with others. If the behavior is not a one-off, perhaps a discussion with S.M. is required.

Flyboy, I hope you enjoy the whalewatching trip.

Susan, sounds like you’re near the end of your book. I hope the rest of the chapters go smoothly.

Hippie, wow, that is some superb service. I wish I knew tradespeople. Everything is so transactional nowadays.

I was up at 3:30, but decided to go back to sleep. Maisie let me know it was breakfast time at 5:00 a.m., so I got up, fed the pups, and made some coffee for myself.

Not much on the agenda, maybe we’ll go somewhere, maybe not. If not, I’ll do the laundry.

Yesterday, I went and got a pedicure. I thought about going down to Lowe’s to buy some bagged mulch, but gave it a pass. Maybe I’ll do it tomorrow.

I’m jonesing for a road trip. But, until the roof is done, I can’t go anywhere. Honestly, I’d rather road trip alone, but I think that would hurt my husband’s feelings, so I’ll broach it to him when we’re done with the roof business.

Alrighty, time for some more coffee and to scoff at real estate. The inventory is higher out here now, although I’m not seeing much of what I would want in my price range.

We don’t have to worry about mowage since Daughter did it yesterday. At least not this week. Which is great since I’ve got a metric buttload of laundry as soon as we get home. We should get our gate info within an hour. So ready to get airborne!

The Magnificent Seven is starting on the Ovation Channel.

When I press the Info button, there is a picture of Toshiro Mifune from Seven Samurai, with The Magnificent Seven as a caption. The description of the movie is:

The Magnificent Seven
(1954) A samurai answers a village’s request for protection after he falls on hard times. The town needs protection from bandits, so the samurai gathers six others to help him teach the people how to defend themselves.

So… The Magnificent Seven Samurai, maybe?

Up, though I wish I weren’t quite yet, not sheveled. I might heave; will cold chicken tikka masala leftovers inhibit or promote this possibility? Time will tell.

I’m glad that you have hot water again!

shoe, if this is an ongoing thing, I would definitely say something to SM. Chances are, you aren’t the only one who’s noticed and attitudes like that tend to drag down team morale.

Have a good flight home, Mooooooom.

Enjoy Pride, boo.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Since I didn’t do any packing yesterday, I’ll resume today. I fried the last of the bacon today, so once the skillet is cleaned up and dried, the cast iron ware will be put in a tote.

I sign the lease Monday, so today, I’ll call the moving company to set a pick up date. I’m so ready to have this move over.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

That was hilarious. I will definitely remember next time I hafta do the same.

It’s been … escalating. And I’m definitely not the only one, so … yeah, scales are tipping towards “quick chat.”

Sadie is rejecting her food for the second day. She ate most of last night’s offering, but that’s it. Tried a scrambled egg, which was also rejected. Her eyes are clear and she wants to play, but not eating is troublesome. I see a vet visit on Monday if it continues through the weekend. She can’t thrive on one can a day.

Nice! I’ve always like the latter two artists. It’s interesting trivia that Toto’s “Africa” was not liked by most of the band and was only squeezed onto the album at the last minute at the insistence of the author.

All puzzles puzzed, including finishing the NYT Saturday crossword, which is always a bear.

Dreadful heat/humidity the next few days, but slacking off at midweek. We’ll be hunkering down.

Another low volume day, I was out by 0945. Which was nice for a change, especially since it was already 90 when I left. Laundy is washed, and spinning in the dryer, I’ve had my bacon, eggs, and gin&tonic, so it’s naptime.

That’s almost as good as the “none pizza with left beef”

Yay!

Or even Battle Beyond the Magnificent Seven Samurai

Definitely.

I’ve never seen Battle Beyond The Stars But I remember back in the days before the Internet, we’d call the theatres to listen to recordings of what’s playing and at what times. One time when I called the drive-in, they called it Battle Behind The Stars. They messed up another name another time (a space opera), but I don’t recall the name right now.

Yesterday was payday, which meant today was bill-paying day. And I got a random $25 refund from Inova in the mail yesterday (from a March 2024 appointment!), so I had a check to deposit virtually via my credit union’s app. All of that is done – plus some other personal administrivia – so now I’m just catching up with y’all before I relocate to the living room and eat some lunch. I’m looking forward to watching the second half of HBO’s Billy Joel documentary…and, I confess, the new epsiode of Zillow Gone Wild.

Not sure if anyone remembers me posting last month about an unassembled caucus/firehouse primary that the Democractic party held, which I volunteered to help staff on a Saturday afternoon/evening. The resulting special election will be held in early September, and thankfully the county election office is managing that one: they put out a call for election officers a couple of weeks ago, and yesterday I got my assignment. The election only affects one particular congressional district, and I live in a different one but the dividing line is super close: the school I got assigned to is only 3 blocks from home – just a block away from my normal voting/assignment location! Yay! That said, I’m actually a little on the fence about supporting this election: I’ll definitely want to work the general election in November, which would be my 4th in one year. That’s twice as many as usual, and feels like kind of a lot. But right now I’m leaning toward it, so I accepted the assignment and will see how I feel in a couple of weeks. I’ll decide NLT a month before the election, so they’ll have plenty of time to find a replacement if I decide to back out.

I used to frequently order a self-described “bacon cheeseburger” pizza: ground beef, onion, and (regular) bacon. Onion is just about the only veggie I can tolerate on a pizza, and those toppings are about the only ones I’d ever be up for (except pepperoni, but only on a separate pizza).

I frequently call Bailey to debark. :joy:

I am also team Quiet Chat; and, I think boofae nailed it.

Woah! I’m glad everything worked out, but yeah…what a day.

That was posted 3 hours ago: I hope your boarding/departure went smoothly, and there’s no turbulence! :airplane: :crossed_fingers:

LOL!

In my head, I heard this in Serious News Anchor voice…“find out at 11!”

Hooray!

Well, after trying both the chicken/gravy and the chicken pate, it appears that we have a winner with the mixed seafood cat food. She’s presently gobbling it down in the kitchen, which is a relief.

Thunderstroms have been predicted for 3 days. Of course nothing has happened. But yet there is another “the sky is falling” announcement from the Weather Powers.

So which one was shown?

My Reels title should be: You Won’t Believe What Happens When She Eats Cold…

I decided to have the chicken for lunch. Halfway through reading the new chapter to my lovely wife, who has now left to fight with Xfinity. We have another houseguest tonight, just a quick family stay, then no overnighters expected until later in August.

Potato?

Purplehorseshoe, I vote quick chat.

Good journey to the chats!

There is a warehouse near the target in south Philly. My usual pickup point for the Saturday shopping trip is at the target facing the warehouse. A few weeks ago I was treated to the sight of fledgling falcons! They are nesting in I believe the elevator housing for the warehouse. It was wonderful to watch. Of course, by the time I remembered to take pictures the bus arrived. No pics.

Today as I crossed Delaware avenue I caught sight of the fledglings . This time I got pics! Not great pics….but pics. There was much flapping by the fledglings while the parent showed gliding patterns.so great to see them. Usually they nest on the bridges crossing the Delaware. This warehouse is a really great nesting spot.

I think so also, so another one for ‘quiet, but direct chat’ and another star for boofae.

I hope that her appetite is back soonest. ETA: I see that she was just being picky.

I have to wait until Monday to get hold of the movers.:frowning: I forgot that this was Saturday.

I got the cast iron cookware and the metal kitchen cannisters packed, plus got another half tote packed with sheet pans and the stuff from the kitchen walls and fridge magnets. I’ll finish that tote tomorrow.

Nelson has been kind of listless today. He has stress licked some areas near his groin and under one arm raw (yes, he’s seen the vet and it’s being treated) and he’s been more ouchy, poor baby. I should have some bitter apple that can be used topically anytime today that I’ll apply to keep him from licking so much, but I did add a half carprofen when I gave him his antibiotic / peanut butter taco.

Howdy Y’all! Mowage got accomplished and nothing else. That drained me of the little energy I had. I had a shower, a beerverage, and then nappage. I still feel drained. Methinks an early bedtime is in store. Today’s temp has been hell’s front porch all day.

MetalMouse I declare you the winner of this week’s most TMI post.

BBBOO that’s a busy day! Have fun at the event.

Hippie hooray for hot water!

Lily hope you are over what’s ailin’ you soonest.

And a good early evening all. Actually did (almost) everything that I had planned on, have acquired some new soccer balls and goalie gloves and the gift cards took care of 2/3 of the cost, then spent several hours at the gym waiting until it was time for my soccer meeting. The meeting went well, some new rules interpretations to enforce this coming season, and I get a gift for refereeing the 3rd most minutes of soccer this spring. Only glitch was heading to Texas Roadhouse about 5pm, the parking lot was packed and the line outdoors was long, so I decided next week will be fine for them and went to Applebees, which wasn’t quite as good (and no hot rolls and butter) but was adequate to bring my calorie count back up. Am now home and don’t plan on any more excursions for the rest of the day.

And scrolling begins…wait for it…now.

BBBoo, hope the heat wasn’t too bad, good choice of workspace.

Taters, don’t think I’ve ever had a pedicure in my life, maybe one of these days…

red, sounds like you’re in the final stages, hang in there it’s almost a done deal. And maybe Nelson senses that something is up and it’s bothering him. Hope he loves his new place,.

Cookie, scritches for Sadie, hope she gets her appetite back soon–and I see in a later post you had success with that. And I envy your skill at the NY Times crosswords, I can get up to Thursday, but usually Friday and Saturday stop me in my tracks.

As for my “TED” reference, i swear, it came to me as I was typing, I didn’t steal it (at least consciously) from anywhere else. Glad that most of you knew what I was talking about.

Hey, I put spoiler tags on it, if you couldn’t resist…

Saw Battle Beyond the Stars once and while I made it to the end I had no great interest in seeing it again.

Oopsie, happy electioneering.

Wet one, not sure where you are but we could use some of that rain that keeps missing you.

rocky, that’s neat about the fledgings, any chance you can share the pics somewhere we can see them?

And I think that mostly catches me up. Need to do some more catch-up internettin’ now, so take care all.
