(Old) Water spots be us, our new MMP

Came in early. I never do that, so S.M. had some idea things were no bueno. I was like, look, I gotta talk to you.

Turns out, she had to go scoop up Lil’ Miss Thang, and she was like, “I’ll talk to her.”

I don’t know what she said, but that girl wouldn’t look me in the eyes all night.

I think that the carprofen (doggy ibuprofen) helped some. The bitter apple came and I’ve mixed a minute portion in some coconut oil to apply to his raw spots. The oil will help sooth them and the bitter apple will taste bad enough that he should quit licking himsel to excess.

Thanks everyone, miss red too.

It was busy. We were also celebrating the 35th anniversary of the ADA. Proclamations from da governor (a big poopy head if ever there was one) and from the mayor, very much not a poopy head. I did not go outside for that photo op-stayed hunkered down inside my AC’ed haven.

We ended it an hour early because of the extreme heat advisory. By noon it was mercilessly hot. I was soaked with sweat by the time we’d finished folding tables and tents. Got to hug some friends who come to the event from outstate. Always nice. I couldn’t have done it for 5 hours outside with the vendors-so glad I snagged the one volunteer job inside. Just the coming and going was bad enough. Trudged through my errands then went home, immediately changed into my nightgown because why pretend I’m going to not be a die hard RDOS for the rest of the dat and night? Mostly been nibbling easy snacks and trying to drink enough water.

Just finished my second electrolyte (Liqiud IV) and popped a couple magnesium capsules. Otherwise I get leg cramps at night, especially after a hot day with this much sweating. Of course rehydrating means I’m wearing a path to the bathroom in between reading da Dope, my Craig Johnson novel that’s overdue at the library and probably some Netflix or Peacock later. I could be ambitious like metal mouse and cookie and tackle the NYT puzzles I suppose, but more likely I’ll just keep reading and streaming. Moxie likes that, my lap and petting are always available that way.

Almost home. Our flight was late but not too much. The bags took forever to come out. But my sis picked us up and we’re on the road. About an hour out, I think.

More tomorrow .

The Magnificent Seven (1960).

We went on a whale watching cruise over a decade ago (it was before we were married), and we didn’t seen any whales. Today, we sailed north up the Strait of Georgia to where a whale had been sighted (the boats all talk to each other). We didn’t see it. Eventually we turned around, and headed back south. We caught up with the other whale-watching boat at Patos Island. People near me were like, ‘Oh, there it is! I saw the spout!’ But I didn’t. Eventually I did see a humpback whale the boat’s narrator said was nicknamed ‘Twitch’. She said Twitch was first sighted here in 2001, and spends his (or her) winters off of Hawai’i. We never did see its tail flukes (the water was only about 60 feet deep there), but we could see its back and dorsal fin. I looked up ‘Twitch’ (the humpback whale) and there is a humpback called Twitch that is often sighted off of Dana Point, CA. I don’t know if it’s the same whale.

Since we were already in Fairhaven, we thought we’d go to The Black Cat. Amazingly, I got a parking spot right in front of the building. The Black Cat had a half-hour wait for the bar, so we went downstairs to Mambo Italiano. We ate outside. I had a steak salad, and Mi Amore had fettuccine alfredo with portobello mushrooms. She had something-or-other lemon drops, and I had negronis.

Upon returning home, we happliy discovered the cats had not perished to death! of starvation as their gooshy food was three hours late.

I was wearing a hat (most of the time) and HGU-4/Ps on the boat. (The wind kept blowing the sides of my Seattle Sombrero up, fixing them to the velcro on the sides.) So my nose and cheeks-down got sun and my eyes and forehead didn’t. Just call me Creamsickle.

My aunt passed.

My mother is one of six siblings, an older brother aka the Golden Child, then my mom and then four younger sisters. A total of 34 grandchildren (my generation) and over 100 great grandchildren.

The aunt who died got divorced, a scandal in Mormondom in the early 60s, and only had one boy. Golden Child and my family “only” had five children each so it was up to the rest to make up for us slackers.

My cousin was only two days older than me, so we were close growing up.

He looked several years older than we were and was really popular with the girls. Unfortunately, he passed about 20 years ago.

The aunt got remarried in the 90s but her second husband died a while ago.

She was a kinda crazy woman, with really weird ideas. For example, back in the early 80s she sold her house to a neighbor. It turns out that the neighbor tried to screw her over, and put in the contract that she only got the earnest money.

She read it, thought it was wrong and called an attorney. Oh no, she prayed about and God told her it was ok. God’s a great god, but a terrible lawyer. Anyway, after consulting a human attorney, she got her money back.

She lived off disability and never met an ache or pain that wasn’t worth sharing with everyone.

My sibling used to visit her a couple times a month to help out until it got too much, then tapered off.

I miss the mother of my favorite cousin from when we were young and I would stay at their home. My mother isn’t saying it out loud, but that seems to be the general feeling.

We went to the World Expo again yesterday. SenGirl and I went around together while the others went on another group.

A bought a light weight folding chair and it was a lifesaver.

We are headed back home now. It’s been quite a trip.

I’m sorry for your loss, sensai. Hugs to you and yours.

I napped. I had jambalaya for dinner with a Sazarac, and a half sleeve of frozen Thin Mints for dessert.

But..but..John Saxon is peak 70’s Evil Villain!

Good.

{{{{TokyoBayer}}}}

Home in my recliner, winding down before bed.

Just what I was waiting to hear….now I can wind down with Netflix.

Welcome home!

Condolences.

My father was one of five siblings. He was the first to go due to injuries and whatnot. The youngest sibling, whose middle name came from an uncle, the chaplain on USS Arizona, is the sole surviving sibling. He used to be a Trump supporter, but he’s seen the light. Still a conservative ex-Navy Chief, but thank the gods he can recognise a Nazi when he sees one.

They can’t stay around forever, unfortunately.

My grandfather died when he was about 70. My grandmother was a few months shy of 100. The Golden Child is 91 and the youngest aunt is 80ish.

The is the second aunt to die. The first was favorite.

All the Version 1.0 spouses have passed (don’t know about the divorced one), as well as two of Ver 2.0.

Golden Child married a woman 30 years younger than him about four months after his first wife passed. Apparently my cousin wasn’t thrilled about it.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 76 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 96 with a heat index well over a hunnert and sunny. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I have verger duty. It’s also Baby Priest’s first Sunday back from paternity leave. We have decided on a stoner food lunch and an afternoon/evenin’ of bein’ inside in the a/c.

{{{Sensei}}} so sorry for your loss. I have no aunts and uncles now. The last and youngest uncle died in 2019.

MOOOOOOM glad y’all made it home safe and sound.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization shall commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. It’s currently 77 Degrees Ferret Height(25 Centipedes), with a Heat Index of 90F(32C). Which should make the trek to the giant yellow bin an adventure today.

WELCOME HOME MOOOOOMMMMMM!!!

Yes, of course I’m wide awake before 6 after more than 24 sleepless hours, dammit. Because it’s just before 11 on ship time.

Yeah, yeah, happy Sunday.

{{{sensei and family}}}

Glad you’ve made it home, FCM!!

Morning all. Have obtained the Sunday NY Times and eaten a bowl of Cheerios to finish off my half-gallon of milk, so brain and body have obtained nourishment. Debating on if I should mow the lawn today, it is a bit long but not really shaggy, but the clipping pickup is Monday so I’d have to wait another week or let the trash bags sit out front for 3-5 days. Probably will mow anyway, hey, it’s exercise and maybe a good excuse for not making it to the gym… Just have to watch it, it’s 77F now and heading to 94F so it will be a hot job whenever I do it.

shoe, hope this doesn’t cause too much of a rupture in the work environment, but if it had been left unmentioned and un-dealt with it certainly would have.

BBBoo, glad no one suffered heat stroke (especially you).

FCM, Welcome Home!!

Flyboy, yeah, I remember a whale/dolphin watching cruise out of Myrtle Beach, SC, out for nearly 75 minutes and never saw a thing. I guess it’s just the luck of the draw.

Sensei, so sorry to hear about your aunt passing. Safe journey home.

swampy, happy Vergering.

And onward into the day. Have a good one all.

Mornin’ everyone.

The current temperature is 58°F with mostly cloudy skies. It’ll slowly transition to mainly sunny skies by this afternoon, with an expected daytime high of 81°F.

Sensai, I’m sorry for your loss.

FCM, welcome home! I hope you get some rest soon.

Lily, I sure hope you’re feeling better today.

Metal Mouse, I find pedicures quite relaxing. I see many men in the place I visit, but I still haven’t convinced my husband to go, yet. They’re quite skilled at gently removing ingrown nails on the corners, and the foot and lower leg massages are a real treat.

Yay for progress on packing, red. I hope the carprofen and bitter apple continue to help, Nelson.

Shoe, I’m glad you spoke with S.M., and I hope the poor behavior changes for good.

Once again, I could not sleep and was up at 3:30. However, I forced myself to lie down on the couch and slept fitfully until 5:45 a.m., just scant minutes after sunrise. Tomorrow, however, I’ll have to be up early so I can get to the grocery store before the roofing supplies and roofers arrive. I need to buy some ice for the ice chest. I want to put the chest on our covered front porch so the crew has access to cold, bottled water, maybe some soda, and a snack. We don’t have to do that, but it’ll be hot on the roof, and it’s the right thing to do.

I’ll finish laundry today and run the vacuum. That’s about the extent of my plans. Sounds exciting, right?

Okay, I need some more coffee. You all take care of yourselves.

Mornin’ all - Decided to get in a lick before we roll to the next MMP tomorrow. I have been following along now and again over the last 4 days, but have forgotten some of the earlier points and events. Anyhow:

Congrats to FCM on a successful return with no spousicides.
And congrats to BBBoo for a successful Pride Day without heatstroke for you. Sux to be those other folks.
Flyboy any day on the water is a good day even if the whales are absent or nearly so. I’ve been on many such trips and seen darn few whales. But it’s always a treat when you do.
And to red for the great ongoing progress towards the move and on dealing with poor Nelsons’ doggy anxiety.

Sensei I’m sorry for your loss. Although she sounds like she was quite an … interesting … character.

Something I had not really thought about until you mentioned it is that large extended families imply not only lots of happy occasions like weddings and new babies, but also lots of funerals. Your generation of your extended family numbers 34. Mine is 6 including me. Makes for fewer funerals. As I’m the second eldest of the crew, and most of the others are women, I may not have to attend any more funerals beyond my own. My prior generation is long gone.

Shoe: I know this is already past but … Since you know SM is a quality manager, not a knee-jerk screamer, why would you deny her the ability to manage her crew and improve her store? She can’t manage what she doesn’t know about.

As to Miss Beyotch, she’ll eventually have to learn that working includes checking most of your personality and personal problems at the door when you clock in. The sooner that learning gets gently massaged into her by a skilled caring manager, the better her entire work life will be. As opposed to leaving that teaching for her next job with the knee-jerk screamer boss.

If you see something, say something. It’s a kindness to Miss Beyotch, but more than that, it’s a kindness to the whole crew and especially to you. Be kind to yourself. It works. Really.

JtC: We used to go to local homebrew rasslin’ in the older workin’ class part of Saint Louis. Held once a month in an old boxing gym turned neighborhood hangout and it was great entertainment for $5 each admission, plus some cheap canned Budweiser and a bad hot dog or three.

The crowd was every bit as entertaining as the performers. You gotta go. More than that, you gotta report back here so we can join in the fun.

Carmax: Awhile ago I traded in one car for another. The dealership suggested I stop by CarMax to get their purchase offer. They said they’d honor their own estimate or CarMax’s whichever was larger. CarMax’s was a significant percentage higher than theirs. Admittedly this was for a pretty well run-out car, so the absolute numbers were small. I don’t know if that was just an elaborate feel-good trick play on their part, or CarMax really did overbid on the car. But the dealership honored CarMax’s price. Punchline: If a CarMax is reasonably close by, then stopping in for an estimate is easy, painless, and almost certainly a can’t-lose proposition.

As to me:
Travel down here on Thu was nominal & the condo we’d rented for the weekend is nice enough. Mostly been eatin’ and drinkin’ and yakkin’ and sunnin’. Switched off the phones and departed from real life. Took a beach and snorkeling boat tour yesterday. Which was rather ominously scheduled for three hours near some islands. Although the boat resembled the SS Minnow, we did indeed return. And enjoyed spectacular weather while doing it. The Pacific here is much warmer than up in SoCal where I grew up. Not the bathtub warm of SoFL, but still quite pleasant for an extended time in the water.

As is typical in the tropics the weather the whole time has alternated between bright sun with puffy clouds, continuous gentle rain for hours with occasional slamming & lightning, or just high gray overcast. Just now it’s bright blue here with rain showers building out over the ocean. Overnight lows of ~77/25 and highs of ~86/30. With plenty of cozy all-enveloping tropical humidity.

My pal is much more of a night owl than I, so I usually fade an hour or two before he does. And get up earlier too. Which is what’s going on now. Almost time to get today’s joint sloth and day drinkin’ into gear.

We’ll leave here for Miami Tue late morning and hit home around bedtime.

And to loop around to FCM where this mega-post started … Last time I came down here the 2-hour earlier time change really ate my lunch. I was super-early early bird and not lovin’ that for most of the time I was here. I’m having much less issue this time and am grateful for that.

Cheers all!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 21c/69f with a predicted high of 22c/71f and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s fifty shades of grey outside but not in the sexy-time way. It’s the fucking depressing way.” It was raining when we went out earlier, we sat in a restaurant and had lunch, it had stopped by the time we left.

sensei I am sorry for your loss, my condolences to you and your family.

**Mooom ** welcome back! I hope you catch up on your sleep soon.

shoe good to hear that SM had words with your co-irker, even if it meant she wouldn’t look at you all night. She must have realised she was in the wrong.

We had a good trip over to Frankfurt and found a nice bar round the corner from our hotel. Late night meant a late start this morning. We went out for a wander down to the river, found a nice restaurant for lunch and had a slow walk back to the hotel. We stopped at a corner shop for some diet coke and some milk sowe can have drinks in our room. Naturally, we have brought tea bags with us
