(Old) Water spots be us, our new MMP

It’s been close to 26 years for me on the Dope.

There’s a big thunderstorm going on outside, when it was predicted to be three digits hot and sunny, I;m keeping an eye on the dog because he won’t go out in the rain.

Howdy again. Made the trip down to the utility place, since trying to get by the robot on the phone as I expected was not happening. Turns out they are giving back people’s deposit money if you’ve been paying in full and on-time the past 36 months, so my electric bill for the month is a whopping $3.00–I suspect it will be higher next month, however… Shopping is done and lunch has been consumed (had to wait a bit while they made about 15 giant subs, turns out they were going to a construction crew). May wash my sheets today or go to the gym or stop at Wal-Mart…or all or none of the above, the joys of being a RDOS are boundless. Up to 92F and a 1-in-3 chance of rain this afternoon.

FCM, fascinating stuff, I really do need to get to Iceland someday. And yeah, give Expedia an earful. Not booking with the ship always runs the chance that you get back too late to catch the ship, so glad that didn’t happen.

JtC, happy protesting. And he should have known better than to go out in the mid-day sun–he must have been a mad dog or an Englishman… And as for drink pricing on a cruise ship, who knows? Just be glad you won’t be seeing the bill anyone who didn’t have a drinks package will see…

I hope that augers well for the future…

wet one, happiness is a unclogged sink.

Pilot, glad stress was relieved…several times…

And need to get back to making serious decisions on what I will probably not do. Take care all.

It says I joined July 21, 1999 so I should have a cake someplace, no? Let’s see.

You nailed it exactly. 5 whole hours of ‘extended school year’ services to a thrice exceptional neurodivergent kid and they get to look good and buff up their metrics.

It’s not lost on us that they also get to enjoy dumping the maximum aggravation and interruption on her family while they only have to deal with her for a grand total of 300 minutes to claim they’re serving her all summer. Doing that hour at the beginning or end of her summer day camp day? Nope, that would be too considerate and less disruptive. “Let’s screw up her ABA therapy sessions, make her miss all the day camp field trips all week and put the kid and her family through the wringer smack dab in the middle of the day. We’ll show them who is the boss!” They know exactly what they are doing and they are enjoying it.

I really need to change the sheets today. Thing is, the bedroom in this house is so small, the bed is pushed right up against the wall and on the other side there’s maybe a foot of clearance where you can waddle sideways.

I’ve always hated dealing with fitted sheets, and now I regret whining about it when I was in a house where you could, yanno, walk around the bed.

This chore now requires clambering awkwardly which is even worse, and I hateses it.

You do indeed!

That is SO COOL! Perfect name, too.

That sux.

Happy cake day to you too @kayT !! I see it.

Dayum. We can close the MMP for good. You have perfectly summarized the well-executed RDOS existence!!

Clearly all the teachers out there are not our nellie.

Ten o’clock. I’ve been irking for four hours, and I’m just now opening my Safari browser! (I’ve had Edge open on the irk computer since I logged on.) Tomorrow I have to go into the orifice for a staph meeting and ‘company picnic’ (so called, since someone’s going fire up the propane barbie outside – we’ll actually eat in the kitchen). I think the last time I went in was in May. I was on vacation on staph meeting day in June. Unfortunately, the 5 has lanes closed through August due to construction. I may have to take the 405. (I find it amusing that there’s a 405 up here too.) In any case, it’s going to be gruelling.

MetalMouse - getting back late wasn’t really a concern since we over-nighted in Reykjavik. That’s the only reason I risked booking with an outside company.

Ok, FCD is thinking about getting up. Maybe. He said he’s feeling congested. I suggested the hot tub or a hot shower. He’s apparently too weak to crawl out of bed. Why are some people such babies when they don’t feel well?

shoe - you want some sheet fun? How about on a sailboat where you have to crawl in the bunk to get one side on, and you dare not kneel too high lest you crack your skull on the overhead. It’s just about impossible to get the sheet tight and smooth. And by the time you’re done, you need to nap on the newly changed sheet…

Happy cake days! Man, we’re getting old!

I’m sporting three wound dressinga at the moment, literarlly head-to-toe: The drained pilar cyst on my scalp, which has wadding my lovely wife is now pulling out daily per instructions; today’s blood draw, with a big bruise because the tech ruined a beautiful insertion by not anchoring the bandage tape well enough; and my toe where the nail came off. I felt rather physically vulnerable but braved a street fair, and I may venture to CostCo to pick up my scrip later today.

Happy Doperversary, hippie and kayT! :shortcake:

I was surprised by the Panera hate that surfaced in the previous thread! I like the food (and I love the bakery), and the service at the ones around here is always just fine. Plus it’s no more expensive than any other “fast casual” chain. YMMV, I guess! I always get an extra bakery item for the next day: I’ll be eating a Panera brownie shortly.

I started the wooden streetcar model yesterday: it isn’t hard, but it’s kind of complicated. Not bad, though. The instructions aren’t always straightforward, but I think I’m getting the hang of them. I’m looking forward to seeing how much progress I can make this week. It’s still too soon to say whether these kits will scratch the same mental itch as assembling Lego sets.

(The next one of those will be delivered in less than two weeks!)

As of 11:30-ish I am done with my support of this proposal (:crossed_fingers:!). They can definitely ask questions/let me know if there’s anything else I can do, but I’m not attending any more status meetings. The decision to work on this one was strategic, and I don’t regret it, but I’ll definitely think twice next time.

My “real job” is oddly quiet today: my main project is on hold while I wait for two documents to come out of review, my boss is working from home, and I’m the only person in my row of cubicles (we only have to be in the office three days a week: I like Mon/Tues/Wed, but a lot of folks chose Tues/Wed/Thurs). There’s some other stuff I can do, but nothing pressing; I can Mump without guilt. It’s kind of nice to have a “breather” day. I’ll probably leave a little early: I need to put gas in the car after work, and I also want to buy bananas on the way home.

I hadn’t noticed that until you pointed it out!

Maybe it’s a tilde surcharge…?

I’m impressed: I think just one of those things would have kept me home!

Here’s hoping you can miss those staph meetings. That’s a nasty infection to get rid of…just ask your wife!

WAG? Because they won’t go to the doctor when they should and then follow through on whatever testing and treatment said doctors suggest.

Gads! After banging my head against the unnecessarily tricky password I had written, I backed out and made a much simpler one. Let’s hope it stays easy to get into the SDMB.

VanGo, I also hope you passed your test, after all that studying.

teelabrown, May I recommend a shower squeegee? Water won’t spot if you zip it all off. I knew a woman who made her kids wipe down the shower after every shower. Thus, she had several loads of towels to wash every week. Squeegeeing is a lot simpler. Oh, and by the way, “scrubbing bubbles” don’t scrub.

One of the first major disappointments of my young adult life.

The commercials led me to believe I could

  1. Spray
  2. ??
  3. Profit!

… but alas, you still hafta actually, yanno, clean the surface your damn self.

Happy Moanday, campers!

Last week was busy. I shall try to be concise. I had an appointment at the med supply place, where I received a new, silent A-PAP machine, and the tech looked at my data and said that despite what the cranky sleep doc’s tech insisted, I am NOT a mouth-breather. I didn’t mind placating the tech when she got all “I’ve been doing this a LOT of years” huffy, but I didn’t like getting dismissed.

I also had the steroid/anesthetic shot in my back. The pain doc is SO nice. He does 40 of these per day but looks at it as “getting to help 40 people.” My back pain disappeared, but the anesthetic has worn off, so it’s back; however, the steroid should start kicking in tomorrow-ish.

Much of my time last week was taken up with family issues, mostly my OCD nephew and my SIL. Families are a lot like houses: there’s always some issue that needs to be addressed. My own kids are doing OK. As I’ve said, my daughter decided almost 2 years ago to go no contact with her father, at least temporarily. She now says it’s permanent. I’m relieved and glad she’s doing what’s right for her and that she’s worked this out in therapy, but it saddens me that it’s necessary.

I’ve been busy dog-walking and have to leave shortly.

BooFae, that might just be my favorite weather app message yet. The festival MUST have been good if you’ve already got tickets for next year!

swampy, :hugs: Just because.

VanGogh, I hope the procedure went smoothly and that they found nothing wrong.

Hippie! Happy Doperversary! I’m really glad you’re here.

I do, too! We must have been cleaning closets at the same time. A friend will drive me over to the donating place Thursday.

pilot, I hope her tests go OK. It sounds like you two are keeping the fireworks going despite her busy schedule–always a good sign!

FCM, my guess is that it’s not the booze that made the price increase but the other ingredients. Coconut cream is a bit pricier than some other stuff.

The Viking museum sounds fascinating. I bet they had lots of cool stuff!

Oopsie, I missed the Panera discussion. There’s one a 5-minute walk from me, and I like their food, but the calorie counts give me the vapors, and I’m talking about the sandwiches. I try not to even LOOK at the luscious baked good options. Now I want a brownie. I assume theirs are excellent.

Lily, you are a brave woman. So many bandages! Maybe we should temporarily call you Mummy.

KT, Happy Cake Day! I noticed the slice, too.

Boo, I’ll go back to last week’s MMP to get the whole story about the summer program when I get back from dog-walking. Clearly something’s badly amiss.

oh dear… not the dread squeegee…

the condo building had an ice cream social for ice cream day yest.. bassetts ice cream came in and scooped. they have been selling ice cream at the reading terminal since 1892. i went with the mint chocolate chip. although i did consider vanilla and just add chips.

i will be heading to the yarn store after work today. i shared some knitting markers with a neighbour on the shuttle and she told me about a yarn called “koi pond”. i must get it…must!

Went on an “outing” to a Chinese restaurant today. Got stuck next to two of the worst tenants in the building, one of whom can’t remember what she said 30 seconds ago and repeats it over and over, and the other has never met a topic she couldn’t bitch about. She picked the wrong topic this morning when she started bitching about the building maintenance. I had to school her on how that works, which didn’t make her happy. The food was pretty good, but came in amounts that any three people couldn’t eat. Normally, large quantities means bad food, but this was a credible effort. Well, except for the fried wontons, which were like cardboard.

A decent day weather-wise, with a bit of rain to feed the tomato plant.

Now I need a nap.

So I read the post about your granddaughter, Boo, and I think I can provide some clarity, if not any satisfaction.

Schools are required by federal law to provide services for special ed students during the summer. In the Louisiana school where my sister taught special ed and was coordinator of the summer school Sped program, kids were there several hours, but that was a high school Nebraska’s ESYS law mandates an hour, but with the dearth of sped teachers today, an hour may be all the school can staff anyway.

The sole purpose of ESYS is to ensure students don’t lose any of the progress they made during the school year. There are no new skills taught or new IEP goals; it’s just to ensure summer doesn’t turn into one step back after the school year’s two steps forward. In that hour, your granddaughter practices what she mastered last year in sped. That wouldn’t take all day. It does sound like a pain getting her there and back every day. Does the district provide buses? I’m not suggesting it for her; I’m thinking of working parents whose kids don’t have a loving gramma who can transport.

If she were mine, I’d let her skip a day of ESYS to go on the trip with the summer camp. Missing one day of ESYS stuff won’t hurt her. However, if the trip would be overwhelming and therefore triggering, then of course, she couldn’t go anyway. I’m sure to her it’d be like missing a birthday party to go get a shot. On the bright side, she gets to be with her wonderful Grandma a little while each day.

Thanks. And I see it now; maybe I didn’t join until the afternoon so the cake turned up later? Probably not, I was just sleepy earlier. Anyhow yay for cake and longevity.

The best way to deal with those people is as you did. They learn to never speak in your presence again and you only get stuck hearing your voice not theirs. Win-win!

Niceness is vastly overrated when dealing with whiners or jerks.
