(Old) Water spots be us, our new MMP

Six showers on a 688-class boat, and each one had a squeegee. Wiping down the shower after use was mandatory, though if someone was waiting for his turn he’d usually say not to bother.

When you do that, is it because the packaging fell apart?

What size is your bed? Would it be possible to go from, say a queen to a double?

If they’re scratch cocktails, the coconut cream in the piña colada is a more expensive ingredient than the strawberries in the daquiri.

I filled out the app for my new apartment today and will be emailed the lease as soon as the background check comes through and I pay them. Given that they’re running a special for August, my app fee, rent deposit and pet deposit won’t break the bank, kind of making up for having two apartments for a month. I got another carton packed. I’m almost down to packing odds and ends before I hit the kitchen (my last couple of weeks, everything will be cold or microwaved and eaten on paper plates with plastic cutlery).

Tomorrow, I’ll talk to my current manager with a moved out by date and call the movers.

The pintos are good and hit the spot.

Re the shower curtains issue: If I ask myself, would I pay $5 to a cleaning person to clean my shower curtain rather than drag it downstairs myself to the washer or maybe scrub it in the bathtub? And if the answer is fork, yeah, then I don’t feel guilty about paying $5 to Walmart for a new plastic shower curtain. And the old one can become a drop cloth for painting or gardening projects.

The peach habanero jam came out wonderfully, but it sure tired me out to make it. I saw new crop blackberries at a farm stand this afternoon, but I’ll have to hold off for a couple of days on buying some for a batch of blackberry jam. I’m bushed.

It does look very pretty. I love variegated yarns.

Still working on getting it to post but google-ing ‘koi pond yarn’ brings up lots of pictures, I just can’t figure out how to post one of them.

Exactly what it is like, for all of us! It’s like driving an unstable handful of TNT somewhere it doesn’t want to go…getting her to walk out of day camp when she’s having fun, climbing into her booster seat, buckling her seat belt and then bravely walking into a school that mostly has made clear for 3 years that it doesn’t like the kid very much and, oh, yeah, by the way, ALL the power is ours. Any juncture or transition could be the flaming match that sets it all off.

True. Also true that 5 hours of it spread over a week isn’t going to give her anything either but it sure gives the school a chance to remind all with whom all the power and choices reside. Sigh…

Thank you, my grandma heart needed that. I still got the chops it seems of sheparding us both the minefields without either of us getting blown up. I don’t know that it’s that much of a treat for her~she already sees me a minimum of 6 hours a day over 6 days of the week. The only day I don’t go over to help through dinner time until the last kid is asleep is Saturday. For all I know she might be sick of her grandma but her grandma sure isn’t sick of her or of either of her brothers.

@nelliebly, thanks for explaining the ESY rationale to me and especially for going the extra mile to research the Nebraska version of it, I really appreciate it. I’m equally sure you are exactly right that Special Ed staffing is why only the required 5 hours over the summer is offered. Some Federal data sheet gets the requisite check marks, a pitiful morsel of funding flows back to Nebraska. No doubt not enough to buy five boxes of Kleenex for the classroom, much less pay a teacher what they are worth to spend meaningful learning time with her. Thank you so much.

Howdy Y’all! Been home for a while but needed to chill (literally cause it’s HAWT outside) for a while. We had a good group on hand and, as usual, solved all the world’s problems, but no one listens to us. We had homemade ‘niller ice cream! A guy brought his hand crank ice cream maker and a few of us took turns on the crank just for funsies. There were chopped peekahns, chawklit sauce, strawberries and maraschino (think I spelled that right) cherries for toppin’s.

KT happy doperversary!

Approaching bedtime here.

Early afternoon I finished some minor cleanup around here a quick errand then off to the beach.

In summer our beaches collect a continuous supply of seaweed which is usually easily controlled by the beach maintenance folks. Not today. Had to walk over a 20-30 foot across by 2-ish feet deep pile of drying and rotting seaweed fragments great and small. That spread for miles in each direction along the beach. Once in the water there was also lots of floating weed which slowly gets pulverized in the small surf. Had to wade out about 75 feet before our usually transparent water got clear enough to easily see my feet. By then it was about chest deep. You couldn’t see your toes in ankle-deep water; it was too full of weed mud. Ugh.

Interestingly, most of the weed hunks much bigger than 1x2 feet had a small orange crab riding on them. The crab bodies were a bit bigger than a 25 cent piece, but not much. The weed grows in vast free-floating mats out in the open ocean hundreds of miles from here. Crabs don’t swim so well; they’re mostly bottom dwellers. So where are all these passenger crabs coming from? Tis a mystery.

The water was quite warm, the sun was hot, and the sky was very clear. The telltale signs of impending sunburn showed up early and I wisely retreated for a happy hour dinner of chicken satay skewers and pulled mojo pork with pickled onions served in what looked like tart-sized pastry shells but that were made of sliced tostones. Surprisingly good.

Then meandered home, did laundry, & doped. Made and ate too much popcorn, but it was good. I use ghee as the popping oil and then either plain or butter-flavored popcorn salt on top. Simple but effective.

Trying to avoid overdoing today and the next two; gonna be an intense 6-day weekend road trip.

Hooray to @Misnomer for putting the wraps on the proposal. Yeah, think twice next time.

I read all & processed most. Quittin’ time. Y’all have a great overnight.

And what the heck, I did all three…ambitious, I was. Sweated off 1,200 calories, to go with a heavy workout load last week, sweated in the sauna…and the miserable ()&(&( scale says I gained 1/2lb. Maybe I should just skip a week of gym and see what that does to my weight. Don’t feel like I’ve been overeating or anything.

Flyboy, best wishes for a not-to-aggravating drive tomorrow.

FCM, ah, that makes sense. Not many of my trips have ever over-nighted in port, so it wasn’t an option I thought of.

Lily, take care now, no more bumps, bruises, punctures, or abrasions!!

Knots, I write my passwords out, but in a code only I can decipher, such as “Baltimore(c)+Dad+Star Wars+Cleveland” (not a current password).

nellie, hope the pain abates and the new A-PAP works well for you.

red, sounds like if the Rubicon hasn’t been crossed you are well into it. Hoping things continue to go well.

Pilot, that was some quality sloth-time; enjoy your upcoming trip.

And that’s all for now.

:waves hi:

It’s been a bit hectic around here and I just got home. I’ll try to catch up in the morning. For now, I just wanted to let you all know how much I appreciate each and every one of you. :purple_heart:

Thank you. It helps that I’m not alone. (I also like the street cred that comes with having a uniformed capital guard carry my things to my spot under the tree.) It makes me so sad to know that most of the women in this state not only voted to further restrict their reproductive choices, they voted to take food out of their children’s mouths.

That’s a snazzy cane. I’ve looked at those sort of things but thought that I’d have to walk funny so as to avoid smacking parts of my body against the parts that kinda stick out.

There are other mumpdawgs that won’t go out in the rain. I’ve only lived with three dogs and all of them loved going out in the rain and then rolling in mud the first chance they got. Did we just get defective dawgs? I’ll blame Dad for two of them, he’s the one who brought them home.

Wait what? Is this a new electric company? You’ve lived there for decades, surely you’ve paid your bills on time for longer than that.

Sunburns don’t really happen in the forest. Too much shade and cloud cover, plus a good bunch of the men folks out this way work underground. I’m thinkin’ it was ignorance that did him in.

I’m actually feeling safe enough to consider wearing short sleeves. Maybe. Shorts will probably never happen.

I slept in a very small room back in the day. Fitted sheets are not your friend, get a oversized flat sheet and roll up some of the extra width and length so you can push it to the side against the walls. Lift the mattress enough to let the rolls fall against the walls and then drop the mattress back. Tuck the loose side and bottom ends in and call it good. If you have a small bed and use a big flat sheet, you can keep pulling the rolled parts out and tucking them under the mattress until you run out of sheet.

Or that’s how I used to do it.

You have so much more fortitude than me. Losing a toe nail would be enough to have me slothing for at least a week.

Like I said, I’ve never been there. I used to drive past one when I was working and I know there is one in Charleston, but it has never appealed to me. As I am very easily influenced and swayed by peer pressure, they are now much less attractive.

I have one password. It is almost the same password I’ve had forever. I have never been hacked, no credit cards have been compromised and it works for most security checks.

Of course, now that I’ve shared this, I will get hacked next week.

Mine too! I didn’t expect them to zip around smiling, but I really expected to not have to wipe it down myself.!

I’m so glad to hear from you and read everything, including your very thoughtful words to BOO.

Now I want to change the subject, please. Have you started cat sitting and if so, how much do you charge? The young lady who has been feeding our fuzzbutts is asking twenty a day. She usually only has to feed them once a day, twice once in a while and has shared that she likes sitting in our AC so comes over just to hang out with them and watch our TV.

I think I’m seriously underpaying her and think that teenagers should be paid like adults. How much would you suggest I start paying her?

I looked it up, that looks like a lot of fun to use. I’m not the biggest fan of variegated floss but that’s because it tends to trigger my CDO. That floss has very attractive colors and looks very inviting, please tell us how you liked it.

I think that the Board updates things using a different time zone than we expect. But Happy cake day!!!

I’ve been waiting to hear how the show went, please do tell us when you have time. I also hope that you are having good hectic, not bad hectic. Give your mom my best.

Up from naptime. Spot has had his cuddles. Diner was the usual cheeseburger, fries, corn on the cob, and an Old Fashioned.

Glad I didn’t bore you with the details

:champagne: :shortcake: :partying_face:HAPPY DOPERVERSARY KAYT!!!:shortcake: :champagne:

Monkey will be happy to assist.

Squeegee!

Yeah. Any thin metal object, specifically one designed to cut through something will cut through the single wall cardboard box it’s shoved in.

:purple_heart: back

I had 2 beagle who couldn’d reconize a rabbit 3 feet in front of their face, and a giant JRT that wouldn’t go outside if there was too much dew on the grass. So, yes.

And now we’re not likely to even have that. :frowning:

My procedure went well, once it finally happened. I showed up a bit early, cuz, what the hell else am I gonna do in the morning? I then got 3 failed attempts at putting in an IV, finally on the 4th they got one to work. Odd, I’ve never had trouble getting stuck before. The layed around and napped for another 2 hours. Once I got sent in it was 1.5 hours from going to sleep to waking up. Doc said no problems.

Do you have a slicker for him? Nelson balks when it’s raining, but tolerates it if I suit him up.

While I agree with the general consensus about Panera, they do have good oatmeal raisin cookies as well as good chocolate chunk, plus their coffee is nice.

When we used to get stuff like that when I was a parts room clerk in a maintenance department, they were usually crated. Part of my tool box included a pry bar and a hammer.

I walked the very chill dog. He’s so quiet! Of course, I tend to blather, so maybe he’s just very polite.

I’ve spent most of the time since returning on the phone, first with Old Flame, then with my brother. I’m trying to nudge the latter toward taking over some of the medical phone calls for his wife, as she gets confused and angry. We also discussed my OCD nephew, but I won’t go into any of that here, as I don’t want to depress any of you good people.

Boo, it’s very concerning that the sped people have the attitude toward your granddaughter they apparently do, as it must affect her performance as well as her self-esteem and sense of security. I’ll try to remember to ask my sister, the retired sped teacher, about what to do. And believe me, she’ll have very warm and grateful memories of the time spent with you.

JtC, I’m not cat-sitting yet, but I did do some 6 or 7 years ago. At that time, I charged $25 a day. Today the equivalent would be about $30. I’d go over 3 times daily, two for feedings and play and one for just play. I also cleaned the litter box. I probably spen 90 minutes or so total on cat care. However, I live in a high COL area; the going rate may be less in WV. Of course, I think she should pay YOU for the privilege of hanging with GG and Jolene!

Cookie, I forgot to say that’s a great photo of a gorgeous cat. That eye!

Truer words…it’s frightening and disheartening.

I read that twice as “Do you have a sticker for him?” I thought maybe you were using stickers for rewards for braving the rain, maybe. the scratch-and-sniff kind. I would love to see a photo of Nelson decked out in his slicker.

VanGo, yay for good results!

Sticky, :hugs: :waving_hand:

Glad it went well!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 75 degrees Ferret Height(23.8 Centipedes), and the heat index is down to 85F(29.4C)

You don’t need tools when you have the unload staff!

Worth a shot.

Definitely a rainy, foggy morning. We had breakfast at the bagel place on deck 10 and I watched a guy walking laps, so too wet to walk outside. It’s also Zoordam day - the stewards made a bunch of towel sculptures and they’re all on display around the pool. Check 'em out on my FB. My tablet is too contrary to let me post them here, alas.

No real plans for today. I’ll continue packing, plus there’s a port talk at 1 that I’d like to attend. Tonight we dine at Tamarind, the last of our premium dinners. Yeah, exciting day on tap.

I’ve watched a bit of a few rugby matches and I have to say, I like it better than NFL. I don’t entirely understand the rules, but I looked them up, so I can follow it semi-intelligently. It’s not as violent as I’d expected.

It’s nearly 11 here - we changed our clocks again last night. Next change will be Saturday when we get home.

Anyway, Happy Tuesday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 76 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 94 and partly cloudy. There could be rain late afternoon, or not. It’s laundry day! The excitatement of it all is almost too much. There may also be quality cee-mint pond time. Sup will be sorta jambalaya (from a box, don’t judge!), sallit, and cheddar bizkits. Easy to make and tasty.

VanGo glad it went well.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

First, I have to add my 2 cents to Boo’s ESY fun and excitement. Having taught it for several years, I sympathize with you. I’m not sure why she had to go to ESY instead of doing something fun. I had very sporadic attendance for all of my kids because, yeah, summer. Who wants to go to school anyways??

All this talk gave me flashbacks to one particular adventure. I had a student who was autistic and nonverbal who had been scheduled for ESY. It took a good 20-30 minutes to get him into the classroom. He was laying on the floor screaming during this time as we got a bit closer to the room. I actually had to have the principal give me backup to help him make it to the room. Both of us were polite and comforting/reassuring and trying to help him. Then, once we made it to the room and he seemed ok she went back to what she’d been doing and he and I entered round two. We got in the room and instead of sitting down in spite of having fun things he liked to do and snacks offered to him, he started picking up desks to throw at me.

I’m sure it would surprise no one that his mom decided that ESY was not right for him. She also blamed me for his actions (it must have been something that I did because he never acted that way for her) and eventually transferred him to another school district for the next school year.

I guess maybe what I’m saying is that ESY is not necessarily a good fit for everyone. I don’t know about Nebraska, but in Ohio you can refuse it as a service on the IEP. I hope that someone can come up with a more helpful and caring solution for your granddaughter and that the schools can crank up the empathy a notch or two. Because without it, there is no point in being a Sped teacher.

As to my adventures, well, the show was very hot and the customers were few and far between. It was nice getting to spend the day with MusicMan and I am certainly glad that he was able to come along. All in all, I don’t really think that I broke even, but it wasn’t too far off. We ended up leaving about two hours early because rain was heading our way.

I think in the future that I’ll probably only look at indoor shows because it will be less to carry. But, that’s if I decide to do any shows at all. If someone could fund my materials, I’d be very tempted to just make things and give them away. I did give away a few objects to little kids (with parental permission, of course) and old ladies who were very interested.

The good news, I think, is that I have started sorting through my art supplies and seeing what I can realistically give away. I’m not going to just abandon my stuff, but there are certainly many things that I can do without. I’ve contacted someone that I used to work with and I’m going to take my extras over to her tomorrow evening. So far I’ve got the equivalent to about 4-6 paper grocery bags worth of stuff that are going. And it makes me feel truly wonderful to declutter.

And, finally, my mom was having vision troubles so we got an emergency appointment at her eye doctor which is an hour’s drive away from here. They want her to come back in a month, but it does not appear to be a critical issue at this time. Fortunately for me, my best friend lives about 5 minutes away so we went to her house for dinner which was awesome. When I have more time later I’ll post a picture of me and her adorable little dog. So cute!

Absent a toenail I’d feel far more vulnerable about Costco than at any street fair. Costco people make shopping a bloodsport!

That’s the part that matters. Hooray!! The rest was just shitty customer service. Boooo!
