(Old) What's the winter forecast in the MMP?

Sometimes, we make our own learning lessons.

We’re all dying waiting for the next installment.

I just need a good alibi.

Y’all would totally cover for me, right?

Whenever the sirens go down our street at work, my usual is:
“I wasn’t here. Nobody saw me. I was here the whole time. Imma hide in the walk-in. I, uh. … whatever works best.”

Got a weird look the first time. Now I just get a tired side-laugh.

My computer was on the fritz for days; hence my absence. Actually, for some reason it wasn’t charging. Internal battery was OK, brand new power cord (Old one didn’t work, either.) It seems to be working OK now, but I just cannot catch up. I start typing, and there are two more posts. Whew. Well, I’m thinking of you all even though this is now outdated.

The Farmers Almanac says winter here is supposed to be “chilly and wet.” Now that’s just lazy. It’s like saying the summer forecast for the Sahara Desert is “hot and dry.”

I spent a big chunk of today trying to set up the new digital thermostats management thrust upon us. Ugh. Apparently, you have to pair them with your phone. You can’t do it manually. It also pairs with the Echo Dot and uses the Internet. No matter what I do, I end up in an endless loop. Ms. Dog and her person are coming over later to try to figure it out.

LATER: Ms. Dog’s person can’t even get into the app. It’s frozen and won’t let her set up an account. She’s tried several times. I’ll have to go to the office tomorrow. I also have to pack to go to son and wife’s house on Thursday for a few days.

I missed a Bob photo? I’ll have to go back to see it. I like Bob.

Yay! Go, you! I wish my utilities company did that. I keep my place at 64º, so I’m usually at or below the target. What are you going to spend your windfall on?

Whoa. Shouldn’t they have told you about this before you left?

Thing-a-ma-bobs just aren’t made like they used to be. Seriously, I’m sorry you have yet another big bill for work on your casa.

Just how big is that bed? :open_mouth:
Hope you and OYKW feel better tomorrow.

shoe, I’m so sorry about your father. Does she have power of attorney in case he continues to decline mentally? Big hugs to you, my dear, as this is tough in so many ways. {{{{shoe}}}}

There should be a Mumper Home for Old Grumpers. We could all keep each other entertained. The answer to “Have I ever told you about the time…?” would always be “No.”

Does she go in the washer??? I knew a woman who started her washer and couldn’t find her cat. She raced to the washer, and there was Fluffy, swimming against the current, so to speak. Luckily, the kitty was fine.

Yeah, even served cold, it tends to come with a side of guilt.

Bless you.

   :open_mouth:

shady, I hope the appliances start treating you right.

I used to say "I didn’t do it no one saw me do it and no one can prove anything anyways "

Ok I have a confession when I was 12 our cat who was a rather large and fluffy Himalayan and Persian mix used to wait until the clothes were done and you opened the dryer jump in and roll around… well during shedding season he kept messing up the clean clothes and just started jumping in anytime we opened it

Well one day I made sure it was on air dry (no heat)I suckered him in he jumped in and I closed it in and turned it on for about 45 seconds 2 thumps and a meow later a very shocked cat jumped out and gave me a death look and didn’t get inside again for a long time …

He has power of attorney.

This is gonna be a bitch to roll backwards.

If he has POA over any assets of yours, I’d suggest downloading and printing this form tomorrow and sending it to all those assets:

If it’s him having POA over potential assets of your mother you’re the only one who knows whether you should suggest she should do the same.

Have in the back of your mind who you might appoint as a replacement POA. Everyone should have one, just in case they get it hit by a bus and are in a coma for a month and things need to be done so you have an intact life to return to. A younger aunt or uncle, a longtime dear friend?

Oh, shite. Do they have living wills, regular wills, etc.? I’m thinking if they don’t have living wills, your mom could use that as an excuse to make an appointment with an attorney. With a little secret tip beforehand, the attorney could ask if your mom has POA for your dad and then strongly recommend one.

When my other siblings and I saw that BIL was in the early stages of dementia, we engineered a conversation where my brother and our other sister talked about how they needed living wills and POA’s. (I was all set.) That made my sister and her husband go to an eldercare attorney and get all that done while hubs was still in his right-ish mind. That POA was a godsend.

As I understand it, without a POA, your mom would probably have to petition a court to grant her conservatorship when the time comes for him to go into a facility. I read that can take up to a year and is very costly. Maybe check with an attorney in Texas about this.

IANAL, obviously, but if I can help in any way, just DM me. Sending more hugs! {{{{{{shoe}}}}}}

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

And how did that go?

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 12c/54f with a predicted high of 14c/57f and cloudy. Weather app reminds us that “It’s fucking overcast from where you’re sitting, but if you were in a fucking plane, you could say that it’s undercast.” That seems reasonable - it’s cloudy out there but no rain, not that I am bothered as I have no plans to leave the house.

Me too, I have a big day out on Saturday that I really don’t want to miss! I’m medicated with some cough/cold tablets and we have a bottle of Covonia because it contains Squill and that sounds like it should do something special!

We can’t get you to make a decent cup of tea, but we can mess with your crochet patterns. Victory is ours!

Shadow is an old boy and weighs just less than 4kgs now, I have lost count of the times I’ve heard 'im indoors cursing about the weight on his lap when he’s trying to play computer games. Not to mention the times I am downstairs and get a text message asking if I can bring him up a drink because he can’t possibly move the cat…

Maybe he’s finally seeing the reality he’s setting up for himself. I wouldn’t tell a cabbie how to drive either, our local ones aren’t too bad but I need them so I want to stay on their good side.

Oopsie I’m sorry the PT reacted like that, but good for you telling him you weren’t happy with his attitude. Maybe he could reach some arrangement with the gym to refund you those weeks and end the sessions straight away?

shoe that sounds like such a horrible situation to be dealing with, but the mumpers always come through with good advice.

Sticky Buns I am sure you made the right decision there, and something will come along that’s the perfect role for you.

I’m still coughing like a 60-a-day smoker, and I still have a very bunged up nose but I’m upright and mobile. I told work I wasn’t coming to campus this week and they’re happy with that idea. I can work at home quite comfortably and don’t have to wear myself out trying to dodge the wrath of the Travel Gods

I’ve got no scheduled meetings for the rest of the week so I can sit here and potter through various little jobs and hopefully I’ll feel better by the weekend. Obviously, no pub night for me so I have already told my friends that I won’t be out tonight.

Good Mornin; Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 68 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 75 and mostly cloudy. Looks like Milton won’t be botherin’ us about his stapler as we appear to be well out of range. We shall procure provisions this mornin’ and at least I will be headed over to the church house for sup this evenin’. I guess five-thirty p.m. counts as evenin’. Not sure if OYKW will go or not, but if not, well, he’s all growed up and can figure out how to feed himself. Other than that, RDOS inactivities will fill the day.

MOOOOOOM The Tobester is a comic genius!

Perhaps one of our craftier mumpers can embroider it on a throw pillow.

JtC if they would listen to me, they would play a much better game. However, I am completely ignored. I just know they can hear me through the teevee! Starchin’ underwear is quite possibly the meanest thing I’ve ever heard of anyone doin’. Funny though. Good for Jolene for refusin’ to be neglected by her big slave!

sari if sahson actually had to sit inside irk and sleep in a chair, and I highly doubt irk would look favorably upon that, maybe that would be some motivation to go ahead and get his DL Glad Adam seems happy and is well-looked after. I’d bet he would be motivated to come indoors when it gets cold.

MetalMouse second Summer will show up soon to give you a chance to check out the a/c.

Nellie technology is wonderful except when it’s a PITA. Have fun at your son’s house! We have a king-sized bed. Sometimes Ty, Mel, and Ben join us.

BooFae hope whatever it is goes away soonest. Also, don’t make Amurrkin crocheters throw their needles in the harbor, cause they will, you know.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I shall purtify and don attire that is acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Oh woe!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Good Morning!

{{{shoe}}}
Yays, boos, and hugs to everyone else.

Today I have a doctor’s appointment in yonder Akron town. My mom has surprisingly decided to come along for the ride. After that we’ll run around frolicking lightly so as not to wear ourselves out before my interview in Canton this afternoon. In between I am hoping that we’ll be able to have lunch at our favorite Canton place and we might stop and drop off some granola to a few friends here and there.

Thanks, everyone for your kind words. I think the best way to find the right kind of job is to stop applying for jobs that I don’t really want. Up until now I was doing it, though, because we really needed the money. Fortunately now that MusicMan is back on the road, I can afford to be more choosy. This job that I am going to interview for today is in the public sector so it would count for the PSLF program. And, I think that it is something that I would genuinely like to do. Granted, I’d like if it was closer to home because of my mom, but we’ll just have to see how things work out.

“She was with me, officer. Sweetheart that she is, she volunteered to mop my kitchen floor and scrub my terlits!”

So if you don’t have a smart phone or the Dot, you’re screwed? I’d be pissed, even tho I have both. MIL would be even more screwed (had circumstances been different.) Handy as smart phones are, not everyone has them or uses all their functions (says the woman who still has issues with QR codes.) Good luck!

It just happens to be almost exactly what my monthly electric bill is (we’re on the budget plan, so same amount every month regardless of usage.)

Yeah, what could possibly go wrong with that idea??? :open_mouth:

Of course it goes both ways - since our patterns need to be translated for youse guys!

I must be a mean kitteh (and puppeh) mom - I have no problem plopping them on the floor when I have things to do or snacks to fetch.

My daughter temporarily scared the crap outta me last night. She texted “We lost Wanda” (one of her cats.)

What she meant was they think Tobias left an outside door open and Wanda wandered away and they didin’t notice for 2 days. Lest you think they’re neglectful, they adopted litter mates, both black with a small white spot on the chest. (They’ve lived hereabouts over 6 years and I still can’t tell them apart.) While their house is quite small, it’s still easy for one cat to hide, so there are times when you don’t see both together. That’s how they missed Wanda.

Their yard backs up to a right-of-way on a fairly busy road, plus being a largely wooded area, who knows what critters are out and about. However a little later she reported that Wanda was hanging around outside the house but wouldn’t come it. And later still when Daughter went out to leave her some tasty treats, she saw Wanda at the foot of the porch steps. So she sat on the top step and started talking to the cat, who came up to her shortly, so all’s well. Plus the cat would have gotten pretty chilly as it dropped into the 40s overnight.

Now, to teach Tobias to shut the danged doors!!

It was 47° when I let Higgs out this morning, and 66° in the kitchen. That’s just a tad too chilly for me, so the windows are closed. We’re promised low 70s today - that should warm the house back up again. But MIL is going to be cold all day. I did finally persuade her to let me bring out the electric lap blanket.

Today is her shower day - one of the aides will be here as the regular aide is on a cruise (lucky duck!!) FCD wants to go futz on the boat and I’m not sure what I’ll do. Probably mop the kitchen floor, to make sure shoe’s alibi rings true.

I’m sure I’ll figure out something to fill my day.

Happy Wednesday!

Good morning.

It’s 57F and cloudy right now. It will be cloudy early in the day, shifting to partly cloudy in the afternoon, and the high temperature will be around 65F. It’s rather boring weather, but by this weekend, we’ll have sunny skies and temperatures in the low 70s.

BooFae, I hope you’re over your crud by this weekend so you can enjoy your planned outing.

Sticky Buns, fingers crossed for a good outcome today.

JtC, I’m chuckling at your husband’s antics re: Diablo. I well remember the server days and we played both WoW and Diablo back in the day. We don’t play either anymore; it just stopped being fun. My son has gone back to Classic WoW and is enjoying himself. I told both my husband and son about your husband’s excitement about starting to play Diablo and then regaled them with a story about how you earned your Mumper nickname. My husband called you a hero, and I heartily agreed.

Work was another day full of meetings, minor crises, and bits and bobs of training for the new MPA. I had the old MPA trying to override me on some training that I was providing the new MPA on a specific task and put the kibosh on that nonsense. I explained my reasoning for completing a particular report a certain way, and she kept trying to tell me that it resulted in a corrupted spreadsheet. I told her it works if you follow steps a-d, and that I’d never had a corrupted spreadsheet. She’s caused me a lot of extra work because she messes up things, so I’m constantly having to back up documents because she cuts them from directories to move to her computer instead of copying. Who does that? So gd annoying!

She’s already infected the new MPA with some silliness, and I had to straighten that out, too. I did that privately and hopefully, I’ve nipped some of that in the bud.

One more wake-up, and then I’ll have a four-day weekend. My husband has already decided he wants to go to breakfast on Friday, which puts the kibosh on my mushroom-hunting plans. Dang it. Maybe Saturday…we’ll see.

Oopsie, you have more patience than me. I would have dumped the trainer then and there. Some things are just not worth the hassle.

Time to finish the last bit of coffee and get on with the day. Wishing you all a good, or at least easy day.

You need this T-shirt (mildly NSFW)…Sheep Lie Shirt : Pegasus Publishing, Your source for unique gifts

Glad you are recharged and full of energy, nellie. And that thermostat sounds like they are needlessly complicating something that could remain a simple task. And the Bob picture is in last week’s MMP, IIRC.

Or do something appropriately horrible (alien implant :alien:, mutating disease :space_invader:…)

Sticky Buns, enjoy your jaunt around Summit and Stark counties (along with Medina county the region of my youth). And good luck that this is the right job for you.

FCM, glad Wandering Wanda didn’t go to far.

That’s…utterly idiotic. Good luck in training the new MPA right.

Up early and debating on doing 1-2 loads of laundry today or waiting until I have 4-5 loads ready next week. Probably debate it for the next 4-5 days… Down to 52F right now, heading back up to 82F later, and like swampy Milton does not appear to be troubling us. Will get my swimming in this afternoon and the evening is free (no soccer for once), so we’ll see what else happens.

Have a good Hump day all.

Ursala doesn’t go in the washer. She pays no attention to major appliances. Today was another good pill taking day. She was all relaxed on the couch after gishy fuds so I ambled over and popped in the pill. She gets 5 Temptations treatos after the pill.

Today is the 19th anniversary of my dad’s death. I miss him every day.

I have a mammogram at noon. I don’t mind. There’s pressure for a few seconds, then it’s over. The worst part for me is holding my breath during filming.

The TV face said it’s Wednesday. I was thinking it’s Tuesday.

You aren’t the only one who does that, don’t worry. I didn’t deheathenate on Sunday and it’s been screwing up my timesense.

And when I was writing my early morning message I initially wished everyone a good Thorsday (lucky I proof-read most of the time).

wet one, not a happy anniversary, but one well-remembered. And how many pills are left to go? Happy tit-pressing.

Well, decided to do one load of laundry and ended up doing 2, so that is done. Heading off to do my swimming (missed it on Monday due to the HVAC). Also need to get the garbage to the curb tonight, but that’s the only constructive thing I plan on doing. Lunch has been devoured and is assimilating in my belly, so should be good for awhile.

Press on.

I just froze all of our credit reports. If for some reason we need loans in the future, we just unfreeze them. Meanwhile, we should be safe from someone taking out loans in our name, should they get hold of all the other information.

I feel safer already!

The wife woke up still having issues with the vax aftermath. The injection site is still red and a bit swollen. I finally convinced her to start a course of low-dose aspirin, so here’s hoping it will help. She did have a piece of French toast this morning, but is back asleep as I write this.

I made it to exercise class, but was hard-pressed to get through it, so I guess I’m also having some residual effects.

Traffic in MSP is so completely fucked up that it made the NYT. People are really pissed off that so many roads are closed or lane-restricted. And not just major roads, but residential streets, as well. While there is a lot of roadwork to be done, doing it all at once was a stupid idea. A lot of road rage out there.

I hate-laughed at this.

All I can think about is how my parents would have taught me.

It would have been horrible, traumatic … but guaranteed I’d never make that mistake again.

I bet I could get away with that. (Nobody would see it under the apron.) :smiling_imp:

If I had a dollar for every time I’ve wandered into work at the wrong time and/or not knowing what day it is …

Manager: “Shoe put a date sticker on these, please, six days out from today!”
Me: { utterly blank face } “Six days from … lil’ help here?”

{ wanders off to find her clutchin’ pearls }
