(Old) When Mom's Away...A Coasterless MMP

Cork is now the only coaster I use. Every other kind that I tried, the condensation beads up and accummulates all over the surface. It’s far less of a problem in my life now, but when I loved in hot Texas with a guy who put a metric shitload of ice in his drinks, we’d wind up with puddles everywhere.

Plus, like you said, the “stuck then fall” problem.

But since I don’t bother with ice in my own drinks anyway, and I am 3,000 miles away from that guy now & in a chilly and mostly non-humid land, I don’t (shhh!) use - or have need for - coasters anymore.

Don’t lose the little thing!

More sleeping ensued. Carless Co-worker texted right as I was lying back down, asking for a ride to do errands.
Sorry, buddy, I have my own plans - which at the moment featured “getting more sleep” - and which will eventually feature running my own damn errands, not that I wanna do that either.

For now, I’ll heave … myself outta bed.

Eventually.

It’s really warm & cozy right where I am, though.

Howdy folks. Last weekend was certainly an adventure. My old wooden bed frame broke (or more precisely, its box spring) so my mom and I spent an afternoon disassembling it and taking it out to the curb. After I ordered another bed frame off of Amazon, my mom and I, over the course of the weekend, worked together to get my room more nice and tidy for the bed frame. Washing walls, reorganising bins, dusting, the whole nine yards. It was exhausting, but it does feel nice. Was so tired, I went to bed a little earlier than I usually do last night.

Of course, it’s only ‘cork’ if it comes from County Cork, Ireland. Otherwise it’s just impermeable buoyant bark.

Afternoon all. Got a couple phone calls and made a couple more, so things are pretty straight now. Carpet folks will be here tomorrow and the plumbers on Wednesday (they were willing to come out Tuesday but rather than any potential conflict with the Carpet folks I moved them since I have a perfectly good bathroom). And called the dentist and they had a cancellation for 1Pm (about an hour) so as soon as I finish this I need to clean up and head over there. Will then get my shopping done and probably try to do my swimming and sauna tonight. Only question marks is the trash/recycle pickups and my donations to Purple heart (have a call into them). It’s 47F outside, much nicer than last week.

Don’t know what my coasters are made of, says “Barvivo” on the bottom, don’t think they are cork (or half-cork/half fabric) but they are flexible and good to use.

Mrs Owl, now that I’ve lost some weight, maybe I’ll try some of your coasters again.

Pilot, not a happy tale you portray, but a real one for so many. I was lucky to get a USA Government pension and also save for some Annunities, but so many don’t…

Talkie, looking forward to those great cookies the kids come up with.

OK, need to shave and put on appropriate clothing for the dentist visit. Take care all.

Crappiest. Band name. Ever.

Yeah, I figured it out once and he would have to start using my investment principle if he didn’t cut back on most of his discretionary spending and would have to sell and move in less than 10 years.

Oh, but no risk, no glory!!!

I made five parmesan wheels a couple of years ago, and another five last year which was a serious leap of faith because I didn’t know if the first batch had worked. Now that I know how wonderful it turned out, I’ll probably get another five wheels started sometime this month.

Is this an exclusive club or can anyone join? My car is the worse, I will put a receipt on my passenger seat fully intending to bring it inside after I put things away…and the receipt will live in my car for months before I finally throw it away.

Sadly…you probably are. The deck is stacked against single women to start with and service sector jobs don’t pay enough to allow for such luxuries as 401Ks. When I was a food stamp worker, I hated interviewing female waitstaff who were in their 70’s and couldn’t afford to retire. Tipped employees are set up to fail from the start.

ARGH, politics, sorry.

I was planning on going to town today but I kept getting leg cramps last night (not usual for me) and didn’t feel like it when I got up. Mostly I’m going because my doctor wants some new x-rays of my hands and to get fitted for some sleep braces.

I have my doubts about wearing braces to bed, VBC hates it when I wear my compression gloves and braces will probably cover more skin as well as restricting my finger movement.

GG weighed himself yesterday and it looks like he’s mostly stopped growing. He’s 19.8 lbs now so will probably top out at 20 lbs.

I keep meaning to start a thread about it, usually while sitting at a red light for a sec …

For the record, I have a miniscule retirement savings (I basically raped what little I had to buy my way outta Texas a few years ago, and haven’t had the balls to look at a statement since then) and I’m not “tipped” the way a restaurant server is underpaid.
This place, we’re paid pretty much like most retail … plus we share the tips that come in.

So … imma go with “partially screwed.”

I put on boots and a parka, and shoveled two big strips into my driveway, and sprinkled them with what’s left of my snow-melt salt.

But it’s supposed to be rainy and above freezing within a day or two, and I’m wondering if there’s any point in taking the risk of getting stuck in my driveway again, plus the labor and backache of more shoveling, vs. just seeing how much the thaw helps out for me.

Meanwhile, I do still need litter, so imma get some crappy cheap litter in addition to the slightly less crappy (hey, at least it clumps - the really crap stuff doesn’t even do that) brand that I get for Monks, and maybe also see if they have more snow-melt, since I used up what scant remains I had.

I’m not entirely sure how the wages work, but I’ve heard it’s near slavery.

Are there a lot of Filipino staff on board? You might find these helpful, if only to show you recognise them as human beings and not servants.

Good morning: Magandang umaga.
Good afternoon: Magandang hapon.
Good evening: Magandang gabi.
Thank you: Salamat.

When you wrote “2 years in the making” I focused on the shrimp for a moment before remembering your cheese-making. Then it was obvious that’s what you’d meant you’d used your own awesome cheese. But like a lot of FCM’s transitions, I thought others might enjoy reading my momentary confusion.

You’re smarter than me. I just thought she’d been fiddling with recipe perfection for two years, and was impressed by one woman’s dedication to a single shrimp dish.

I have obtained kitty litter, plus an eyewateringly expensive amount of other stuff.
Most of it was necessary, but when I passed the ice cream endcap, I did a double-take …

… and thought of y’all.

And really, how could I NOT try something that sounded so delicious?
LOL at the description (2nd pic, scroll down) kinda shitting on Red Velvet … when that precise flavor (in a brilliant scarlet carton) was available from the same brand a scant few inches away.

Spoiler alert: I haven’t even excavated to the promised cream cheese swirl, and I’m already extremely pleased. :purple_heart:
Bonus points for getting the reference in the pic title:

This turned out to be a “gonna” day. I was gonna make sausage for breakfast, but ended up with bacon. I was gonna go down to the exercise room, but first the elevators were fucked up, and then the room was ocupado. I was gonna make garlic naan from scratch for the first time, but realized I didn’t have any yogurt. I was gonna mount a power strip to my roll-out cart in the kitchen. . .and did it!

Ending on a high note is good. Best of all the power strip is a gift that’ll keep on paying off day after day. Unlike e.g. sausage. Congrats!

My day was mostly “gonna” after ball-whacking ended. Although I did get my nap in my chair for the first time in a week or three. So I can score an accomplishment point for that.

My big remaining “gonna” is “gonna go out and find dinner”; not much to eat in our kitchen right now; last night was scraping the bottom of the random fridge food barrel.

Howdy Y’all! I got errand stuff done and was back at da cave before ten a.m. YAY! I promptly went into high sloth mode until time to get sup put together. That was just a matter of cookin’ up some peas ‘n carrots and heatin’ up chikin ‘n dumplin’s. I yanked a hunk o’ beast outta da freezer to turn into a pot roast tomorrow due to a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for pot roast. Now we are ready for some Netflix and chill time. I want popcorn.

Today was “English pub” day at the buffet. My lunch was fish and chips and mushy peas and raisin scones and I even had my first Scotch egg! Yum!

The singing and dancing show was rescheduled due to rough season. Instead, we saw “Divos” - a couple of guys singing in glittery jackets.

Now it’s chillage time.

Agreed. there is an outlet on that wall, but it’s very difficult to get to because of the metal shelving I put in front of it. This way, I can use my mixer or food processor on top of the cart rather than trying to rearrange stuff on the kitchen counters to make room.

And a good evening all. Teeth have been cleaned and polished and no cavities or issues found, so that’s all good. Did some shopping (had to make 2 stops to find Tomatoes) and got a delayed Jersey Mike’s sammich which has just been consumed for dinner. Still planning on getting my swimming and sauna session in, but I have developed a rasping little cough and some sinus dripping, so may talk myself out of it. Down to 44F now but supposed to stay about 40F tonight, so definite improvement over last week.

Shoe, loved the pics.

Cookie, I call them “we’ll see” days, which is one of my favorite expressions when I’m asked about something I’m perhaps dubious of. At least you got something accomplished.

FCM, another day and you should be in the inlets around the southern tip of S. America so hopefully the seas will be calmer…at least until you hit the Drake Passage…

OK, need to decide if I’m going to try and get some swimming in. Take care all.

I even had my first Scotch egg! Yum!
[/quote]

What sort of sauce did they serve with the Scotch eggs? Now that hubs has learned that they are yum, they will go into our rotation and I will want to dress them up some.

I have been known to obsess over silly stuff in the past…

Your ice cream looks very yum!

I’m going to remember this!

Do you ever see feral finches, parakeets or parrots out your way? Sis in Houston gets a few of them at her bird feeder.

They were ribs like you would barbeque. Essentially, just cook them low and slow with vegetation and seasoning of your choice, de-bone them, add broth and barley and in a couple more hours of crockpotting, you have stew.

He’s just a little bit bigger than Nelson. I wonder who would win in a cage match? :stuck_out_tongue:

I irked for the first Monday since the second week in December. The department next to mine is on mandatory. OT for the rest of the week. I hope it doesn’t spill over.

It made it above freezing today, so stuff is melting…Yay! It is supposed to be nearly 60F Wednesday.

I’ve been a bit down today. A guy who grew up down the street from me and married one of the girls across the street passed. Skip was older than we were and, while very functional, was a bit of an emotional mess when he came back from Vietnam. If I had to guess, liver damage likely took him out. It was always reassuring to me that anytime my dad needed a hand for a plumbing job, he was right there. After he retired, he wouldn’t even take pay for it, so Dad would buy him a case of beer “for his dog”. RIP Skip.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

FCM “Divos?” Male Divas? Not my thing…not the male singer part, just singers in glitter in general.

red RIP Skip. Sounds like he was a good dude.

I should eat something, but I got a case of the donwannas. I may get as far as unloading the dishwasher.

I napped. I gave spot hs belly rubs, now I’m having an Old Fashioned while the cheeseburgers cook.

I like that kind. Even if they make your martini slosh about a bit.
Good to see ya back.

I’m in that situation. Although if I stick around Brown long enough, I can get a small pension and have the good dog food in my refrigerator box under the overpass.

GG would probably eat him, unless both brain cells BSOD at the same time. Then Nelson wins.
