(Old) Who, me? I started the MMP today!

Howdy Y’all! I have terrible news. I went a whole day without nappage. Thoughts and prayers will now be received. The big feast was a success. A good crowd showed up and, :: pats self on back :: the food was incredible. Bob and I make a good team. We would, of course, have welcomed volunteers, but honestly we do better when it’s just us even if it is a lot of work. There were ample volunteers to serve and for cleanup duty which are always gratefully appreciated. The music was superb as well.

I am exhaustated and so am shortly to become horizontal. Looks like we will get rain and possible big t storms but the threat of tornadoes is small at best. Yay for that!

Up from naptime, having a La Louisiane and watching hockey. Spot has undied, and is hunting an ice cube.

:champagne::partying_face::cake:HAPPY DOPERVERSARY STICKY!!!:cake: :partying_face: :champagne:
: crosses fingers for Annie :

Keep your ruby slipper with you(the gold lamé thong is optional)

Reminds me of this.

And it appears I have survived, while we got plenty of thunder and a month’s worth of rain (and it is still vigorously precipitating as I type this) this afternoon and early evening, we never got the really severe weather that was promised (looks like red got some north of me and there are reports around Birmingham, but nothing definite) which is OK by me. Day has been dragging along, can’t believe it’s not even 8pm yet, and too much snackage is being consumed. Rain should be out of the area in a couple more hours and I’ll look to an early bedtime again tonight.

Oopsie, hope wife BFF gets released soon, and we’ll see which interview ends up with your services. And thanks for the story about Harrowgate, I’ve been to see Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle, West Ham and Tottenham play when I was visiting England a couple decades ago, but no shirts (a couple of beanie caps).

FCM, have had a couple odd beeps here that I can’t identify, may have to check my settings next time it happens.

JtC, most of my piping is in the slab I live on and i would have noticed (I hope) and water dripping from where the pipes run. We;ll see what the experts say. And will look into getting an updated Tetanus shot, got most everything back in 1999 when I went overseas, so we’ll see.

swampy, I seldom nap much anymore, I think because of the exercising I do, which should wear me out but instead keeps me going…weird…

And the rain has stopped, hopefully for good (and as I tyoe this thunder just rumbled) and I need to get a couple things done before bedtime, so take care all and I’ll catch you tomorrow.

I think that the magnolia at the end of our building blossomed overnight! With the storm, there is a carpet of blossoms on the ground, but still a lot on the tree.

Don’t bother. It wasn’t that. But that’s what happens when you make two changes at once - you don’t know which one did the trick. As it happened, I turned off the pellet stove because the sound of the fan seemed to obscure where the beep was coming from. Turns out, it’s actually in the stove. FCD thinks it might be a bad bearing in the augur assembly.

Tomorrow, I’m going to give the stove a good cleaning in the hopes that maybe it’s just something stuck that’s messing with the augur. It needs to be de-ashed anyway. So I have that to look forward to. And at least for tonight, we’ll have to rely on the furnace for heat.

On Moanday, I’m going back to the optometrist again. It seems like after they adjust my specs, the stoopit things spring back to where they were. I had 2 very red spots on my nose and 2 divots by each ear. I can’t handle this. I love the new prescription - haven’t seen double since getting them, but they hurt and that’s not good.

Speaking of blooms, I’ve got a lot of daffydills blooming and a lot of buds just waiting to burst forth. There were half a dozen purple crocus in the back yard - I think this fall I’ll plant a bunch more of them. But all I plan to plant this spring will be some cukes and 'maters in the planters on the porch. We’ll be gone too long for me to futz with a full veggie patch. I’ve got 3 planters so one for grape 'maters, one for a big variety, and one for cukes.

For now, tho, I’m thinking of heading back to bed for some tablet time.

Not to mention that changing plans at the drop of a dime makes you think and plan on the fly. Good brain exercise!

I hope your package gets there intact. Did you write Doggio’s name on it to be sure that it got the respect it deserved?

Why? Seriously why do people do things like this? What do they achieve?

I know that when someone did that to me at the food stamp office, I only did what I had to do and no more. Why do people think that screaming at people who are supplying them with food is a good idea?

I’ve been watching the weather station and the pictures I’ve been seeing are horrifying. I am so happy that you are safe, be sure to change your HVAC filters in a few days. Also, ash can stop plants from being able to breathe so when you can, spray all of your yard plants down.

Thank you, I keep trying to remember to download something like that. I should do it now.

Oh, that poor lil girl. I was so hoping that it was just her sinuses, but I’m glad they will be able to do something. And know where the issue is.

Oh that poor kittah. He suffers so!

Do you have a vacuum sealer? I do think that it works better than zip-lock bags, especially for stuff I’m putting in the freezer.

More crossed fingers and optimism for you!

I was trying to keep your hopes up!

Bold of you to think that there will be another election. “Things fall apart, the center cannot hold, anarchy has been loosed upon the world.”

That’s so scary. I’ve been through all sorts of weather related disasters and am here to say that wind is the worse.

Oh dear, how did you ever survive!

I hope you get some nice gentle rain to listen to while you sleep, you were a very busy bear who deserves some good rest.

Hurray for surviving!

We got a little rain but it has mostly been windy. A tree dropped a branch across the highway and traffic was backed up for a while, but we didn’t need to go out anyhow.

I agree, talk to your doctor and get it figured out before the zombies arrive.

I remember seeing them when we came to visit his folks, but didn’t really know how spectacular they really are. Just beautiful.

So my day was kinda nice. And not nice because I went the WVU and hung out with my sign. It was super windy and my wimple is just a costume accessory so it kept blowing off and landed in a mud puddle.

I now have a pattern for a “little house on the prairie” type bonnet so I can make something that doesn’t blow off in strong winds. I’m thinking I’ll use a plastic E-collar to stiffen the brim, that might stop me from bending it when I’m pulling it up out of my eyes.

After dinner, I went out and sat in the back yard to listen to the forest and learned to my dismay that Hubs had bad influenced all of the neighbors. At least three mowers were going and Harry was throwing trash in his burn barrel. Humpf said me and the forest was left unwatched.

We do not. But cling film works just fine on the bacon, and the cheese isn’t frozen. To be clear: For the bacon I lay out a sheet of plastic and put four rashers on it. I roll, then put four more on top. Roll again, and four more strips. Roll again, and fold the ends. Cheese it put into fold-top bags.

Windy A.F. today. Came home to find not only my lemon tree knocked over, but my full-ass trash bin.

Yay.

Oh, but we all got tipped out at work today, and man does morale improve noticeably when that happens. Suddenly everyone’s in a good mood, joking around, gettin’ shit done … running out “real quick!” for fancy coffee from the place across the street …

S.M. takes special joy in this particular managerial task, too, of course. I’ve noticed she keeps it kinda subtle - it’s picked up on damn quick, of course - but for a while she can keep up the subterfuge where she quietly pulls someone aside, and before they even have time to think, “The hell did I do now?!?” BAM!! makin’ it rain. :money_mouth_face:

In my previous rental house, a pipe leaking inside a wall was discovered when mushrooms started growing out of the carpet.

Sorry, what?

It’s not that I don’t believe you …

Ya know what? Let’s take this over to one of the many other threads for this, and leave it be for here. It started with the tattoo removal convo, but, well, mushroomed.

Sorry, y’all.

Probably, it’s a big-ass state with a wide variety of habitats.

I’m guessing they like scrubland kind of territory? If so, I never lived there, though I passed through many a time.

Projecting a bit?

You have incredible fortitude, and I admire your ability to soldier through such a difficult time.

Please accept this medal :sports_medal: for your bravery, and help yourself to a lollipop on your way out.

I have a chicken thigh thawing with the intention of baking that sucker up for dinner, and soaking up the buttery, oniony juices with some crusty rolls.

Or possibly bean soup with kielbasa.

Forgot about dumb soup. This is also an option, and it has indeed gone from “sticky warm” (yesterday) to "brrrrrrrr!" (today) cuz Mama Nature forgot to take her meds again.

Thanks for reminding me about my own stuff!

Also reeeeeeally need to put the clean fitted sheet onto the mattress.

I want it all done; I just donwanna, yanno, be the one putting forth the effort.

Sometimes cats are such masters of hedonism. And then, sometimes, I look at one and think, “This is comfortable for you?”

I can assure you in that particular instance, the devil’s pondwater was involved. Guy was ddddrrrrruuuuunnnnkkkk.

Some procurement was achieved so I need to put that away.
Make dinner decision - if roasting thigh, now is the time to decide & start prep.
If dumb soup, procrastination can ensue.
Make bed.
Retrieve MOAR LAUNDRY.

It never ends, does it?

It was still raining lightly when I took Nelson out before bed. We hadn’t been inside five minutes when the wind kicked up and the clouds opened wide. It wouldn’t surprise me if my street was flooded in the low spot about 3/4 of a mile toward the main drag. The water always recedes fairly quickly once the rain stops, but to get through meanwhile, you need a high profile vehicle.

Thanks for the welcomes in various posts, folks! Today in Melbourne, we had around 20 mm of rain, very welcome after a few dry weeks. We grow a lot of our own veggies, and have rainwater tanks, which are refilling. I’m a retired physics and maths teacher, with two delightful young granddaughters, and a moderator on the Rationalia forum.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 68 Amurrkin out and rainy with a predicted high of 76 and N.O.S. TWPTB say the rain will be over around eight a.m. We are also under a tornado watch until ten a.m. Looks to be more stormy northwest of da cave. Seein’ lots of lightnin’ but hearin’ almost no boom booms. We or at least I will deheathenate this mornin’. I have chalice duty. I might even attend the adult formation class. Adult formation is a fancy term for Sunday school, a thing I have never especially liked. When I turned sixteen my folks let me decide if I wanted to go to Sunday school or not. I chose not. Goin’ to church was still expected, but I didn’t mind church so that was cool. Nappage shall be achieved this afternoon. I have to reclaim my RDOS cred!

Sticky_Buns happy belated Doperversary! Hope Annie does well with the surgery, poor baby!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

That is very interesting. I take thyroid meds, but I doubt that I could stop either because lithium has a habit of destroying your thyroid and I can’t live without it. I’m glad that you have a medicine that works for you.

What?!? You should get a medal for bravery!

Like for dogs? :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

You’re ugly and your mother dresses you funny!

I grew up in the Baptist church. I’m not sure that not going to Sunday school was an option. My grandpa worked for the church and my grandparents taught Sunday school for 40+ years. So, eventually I followed in their footsteps for awhile and taught as well. Possibly I did it because I didn’t want to go to Sunday School! It gets more convoluted after that and I’ll spare y’all the details, but I have no regrets about being who I am today, heathenly speaking. I honestly don’t think much about it except for when I have weird flashbacks like remembering watching Old Yeller in youth group one evening. Now that was traumatic.

My poor little girl had a horrible snorting/wheezing spell in the middle of the night. We hung out in our chair for about an hour afterwards so I could make sure that she was ok. This morning she’s doing alright and currently trying to find a comfortable spot on my lap.

Not sure what’s going on today. Tomorrow I am having a nerve block procedure on/for my right knee. I am hopeful that it helps. I am grateful that MusicMan has a job where he is able to take time off if necessary.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. The usual morning cleaning and afternoon sloth. Spot is watching the vermin hop about.

I went through the whole thing, but I’m sure there were members of the church hierarchy that were secretly hoping I’d defect to another faith.

We’re expecting up to an inch/25mm (I actually remembered the equivalency!!) before our rain ends some time tonight. Since both the Amish and the non-Amish farmers have been plowing, I’m sure they’ll welcome a drink for their fields. I myself welcome the excuse to stay home and vegitate.

Oh, and allow me to add my welcome. I’m a retired engineer but I’ve always loved physics - it’s the only science that’s always made sense to me. (Plus I had a crush on my high school physics teacher - that man had the most beautiful eyes!!!) Biology is just icky and chemistry is mystery magic. Of course, there’s some physics that verges on magic, too, but I’m good with mechanics and optics. Happy to have you in our little playground!

Speaking of rain, the sky had an eerie reddish glow before the sun disappeared behind the clouds. “Red sun at morning…” you know. And the forecast has the precip starting earlier than was promised yesterday. My big plans include cleaning the pellet stove and the basement fireplace. Such excitement at FairyChatEstate!!

This morning I’m really feeling yesterday’s foray into the engine room. Mostly my butt and thigh muscles are aching, my arms less so since I have been known to use them to scrub in non-boat environments. I expect getting down on my knees to clean the fire-producing parts of the house will yield further aches. I need a staff of servants to deal with this stuff as I recline in comfort while being fed grapes by a scantily clad young stud. Well, OK, I don’t really want the grape-feeder, but maybe swampy might.

I thought about maybe running to Aldi today, but that store is stoopit busy on Sundays and I can wait till tomorrow, so I probably will. No reason to venture forth today.

Happy Sunday!

I like your new avatar, FCM. When did you change it?

We’re off for a four-day trip to Sonoma County and will stay at a VRBO that we particularly like. It’s chancy to schedule a trip at this time of year, as you might hit rainy weather, and it looks like it’s going to be raining about half the time of our stay. Oh, well, we won’t melt.

We plan to hit a couple of our favorite restaurants and to sightsee in some pretty country places and along the seacoast.

San Francisco has decided to permanently close the Great Highway which runs along the Pacific coast on the west side of the City. We’ve always used this route to skirt San Francisco as we drive north or south when we go to Sonoma County. So now we’re going to have to use 19th Street, I suppose, which is a crowded, miserable route. I understand folks living just inland of the Great Highway are peeved, because north/south traffic will now re-route through their neighborhoods. I don’t blame them.

Thanks - just last night. I saw a thread about avatars and realized mine was kinda old and dusty. I’d created a folder with several seasonal changes, then forgot I’d done that. I added this one just because.

And on that note, I’ll hit the shower. I’ve done all my usual morning reading and my chores won’t wait much longer. Plus there’s nothing chocolate at hand to distract me, dammit.

Good morning! Colder today here, right now it’s 37F with 11mph wind, with a prediction of snow at 1:00pm. Heck, yesterday, we had the windows open! Spring in Indiana is mysterious.

Last night at about 7:30pm, I fell down. I was closing windows before the rain, and I snagged my toe on a chair leg. I lurched against the window, bonking my head sideways. I don’t have a lump on my head, but my neck hurts.

Hold on to your party hats, it’s about to be St. Patrick’s Day, with all that green beer silliness. “Kiss me, I’m Irish” t-shirts, and such. Merriment is good, right?
Okay, it’s time for breakfast. See you later!

My dad worked at a family owned company - the family was Irish. So, of course, Dad would go to work on St. Patrick’s day wearing a red shirt with a blue suit, and a Kiss Me, I’m Polish button. We’d wear similar buttons to school. Good times. good times!

OK, pellet stove is clean, and I did hear a little bit of beeping/squeaking at first, but the last couple of turns of the augur have been quiet. I’m thinking maybe it was a bit of a pellet lodged somewhere in the chute that has now been knocked loose. I tried to jiggle the augur, but it was tight, so I’m thinking not a bearing. We’ll see how it goes today. But the safe money is on a pellet that didn’t want to move.

OK, the basement beckons. At most, that insert will need to be vacuumed. I can’t remember if I cleaned out the ash last time or not, but scooping ash is pretty easy with the long-handled shovel thingie. That’s a technical fireplace tool term. No really!

And a good Sunday morning all. Have procured the Sunday NY Times and had the morning banana so things are progressing as normal for a Sunday. Chopped steak with the fixin’s at Logan’s Roadhouse will be my main meal of the day in a bit, along with some exercise. The rain is gone and the sky is clear, but the temperature will not get to 60F today so a little cooler. No damage from the storms around here, most of it was south and west of us, but it’s spring so there will be other storms around.

FCM, that’s a nice avatar, I’m too lazy to go looking for an alternative for me. And hope you can get the glasses adjusted right.

JtC, ah, the first sounds of spring; the Toro’s singing the song of their people.

shoe, like my mom used to say, “The Eagle S***s tonight” regarding your tip share.

red, glad it wasn’t any worse for you except rain last night.

JimC (and we have to come up with a Mumper name for you), been to Melbourne once in my life (liked it and remember riding the buses/train downtown and actually finding the place I was looking for). Looking forward to more reports from the land down under.

Can’t ever remember going to Sunday School, the Catholcs has something called CCD (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine) for us heretics that didn’t go to Catholic schools; went there for several years and it played a role in my eventual agnosticism which probably wasn’t what they planned on.

Sticky Buns, hope you lap companion is doing OK today.

Here’s a T-shirt you should consider (I already have one): https://res.cloudinary.com/teepublic/image/private/s--7Hpjzl3k--/t_Resized%20Artwork/c_crop,x_10,y_10/c_fit,h_513/c_crop,g_north_west,h_626,w_470,x_-57,y_-30/g_north_west,u_upload:v1462829015:production:blanks:mtl53ofohwq5goqjo9ke,x_-452,y_-355/b_rgb:eeeeee/c_limit,f_auto,h_630,q_auto:good:420,w_630/v1511357652/production/designs/2088064_0.jpg

Lucky, enjoy the getaway.

Knotts, Ouch!! Any trip and fall is not a great thing.

I’m 1/2 irish, so I do occasionally tip my hat to St. Patrick’s Day, but nothing special planned.

And that’s all for the morning report. Talk to y’all later.

Once I moved from Catholic elementary to public high school, I had to go to CCD, but it didn’t last long. Dunno if I told this story before, but surely it will be new to someone.

The CCD teachers were college kids. Ours was a girl who would read her poetry to us for some reason. Then one day, she decided to tell us that masturbation wasn’t bad. Bear in mind, in 1969, dictionaries defined it as “self abuse” (yeah, that’s specific) and her statement and that definition bothered me, so I mustered up the courage to tell my mom. I was immediately pulled out of CCD and I expect some poor priest or nun got an earful. So a win for me.

Turns out the basement fireplace needed ash-scooping as well as ash sucking, but it’s all done. And the dishwasher is emptied. So productive before lunch time!! Go me!!
