(Old) Who, me? I started the MMP today!

The boat is on the truck for delivery tomorrow. I am so glad to be nearly done with that thing.

I was just about to complain about the power being out, we had a real quick, but severe storm come through, and having to see by my oil lamps, but it just now came back. On the drive back around the lake I saw many tree limbs and even a fence blown down.

The storm is due to hit phila around 7ish pm, and go into tomorrow morning. We have fast moving layers of clouds going past. They haven’t joined up as yet. Some of them are wispy and look like light grey dementors gliding by.

The st. patrick’s day parade ended in our neighbourhood. Between the parade and an early morning run thing, it has been a bit of a mess getting around. I went out quickly for cat food and ate brunch at just the right time.

I did get a bit ambitious yesterday, and start putting away some of the heavier winter items, and decor. I found my shirt and shamrock socks for tomorrow, and my peeps shirts for the equinox. I have a drawer for small holiday wear. I went through and kept some and some are going to the goodwill bin. Then I went through the other 4 drawers and wee closet. That lead to the 2 other closets and the cats were zipping about running from closet to closet.

Today’s big excitement happened while I was reading in my chair. Motion caught my eye and a hawk was flying between our building and the one a block away. Then the hawk landed on the roof of the building next door. Another hawk was on the roof. I believe the hawk was bringing courting brunch to the mate. They were on the roof for a bit and then flew off.

The clouds are putting on quite a show now as it is coming up on sunset. The light bouncing across the clouds is quite mesmerizing. The layers are holding various shades of white to light orange sunlight, and other clouds are light blue with light grey wisps, and bits of blue sky in the breaks. Sometimes it is nice being 10 stories up in the sky. As I face east I’m getting reflected sunset not full on sunset.

No rain here yet. The forecast said 2, then 3, then 5. Well, it’s 7 and still nothing. From the look of the weather channel radar, it passed south and east of us. And the same radar shows it’ll hit us around 9 and for several hours. Notice how I’m not holding my breath. We had some gusts for a very short time, but nothing else to speak of.

I did my biking. I sprayed my oily, gross shoes and they’re now in a bucket of water with detergent and oxyclean. I had to put a heavy bottle on top of them because they float. Tomorrow they’ll go in the laundry with yesterday’s dirty clothes and whatever we wear tomorrow.

I had a bowl of Special K with raisins for supper. It’s better with craisins. When FCD is done watching this episode of The Closer for the gazillionth time, we’ll watch the last 2 episodes of series 3 of The Bay. I swear, he’ll watch those same shows over and over and over. That and Law and Order. I can’t stand any of them, especially after the 4th viewing, which is why I’m at my computer and not in my recliner.

Tomorrow I’ll go do some more scrubbing on the boat and if we get back soon enough, I’ll have my glasses looked at. If not, I’ll go on Tuesday after my dental check up. Them’s my big plans for the next couple of days.

And doing battle with a dozen other codgers over three working machines

And enjoying the ever changing scenery then enjoying family time and free food before taking clean laundry home and taking a nap.

That’s actually the big reason I miss AZ. I used to have weekly routines that took me out of the house at least three times a week and I was forced to socialize. Before the :poop: hit the fan, swimming was the only thing getting me out of the house here and my current outings aren’t nearly as much fun as getting a home cooked lunch would be.

But I knew all of that would change and I certainly wouldn’t move back. I’m meeting people and will find my own place in this new world, it hasn’t even been a year yet.

You have just brought a tear to my eyes and now I’m hopeful again. I am a very little, very tiny part of the reason you were able to experience that. Protesting DDT is one of the reasons it got banned in the US.

Falcons almost died out in the early 1970’s because of they were laying thin shelled eggs that couldn’t properly protect the chick to maturity. I sent what money I could to the cause and walked in protest lines. Mom took me to so many protests and was willing to bail me out of jail if needed, she would have walked them with me if she didn’t have my sisters and a house and husband to take care of. She was also protesting in her own way considering the expectations society had for women back then.

If you put them in a garbage bag and then squeeze the air out of the bag and tie it off, you can smoosh the bag when you think about it to help the soap.

And just where were you half an hour ago when I needed that suggestion?? Some friend you are! :stuck_out_tongue:

OK, I’ll remember it tomorrow - I’ll be wearing different shoes - some old garden grubbies, but they’ll still need to be cleaned of oily gunk. Thanks!

Typically early dinner. I made the corned beef & cabbage today. We can have it again tomorrow.

I cleaned, laundered, and changed Spot’s litter. I took out the trash and recycling between the first and second monsoons. I napped. there was a third monsoon. I have a tornado watch till 0100, but no snow. Dinner is Guinness beef stew, with a side of Guinness. Spot is sacked out somewhere.

I’m a thigh man.

Next project: Repairing the 15’x10’ hole in the side of the house.

Whiskipalian golems?

And a good evening all. Dinner was eaten and gym has been gym-ed and I am now inside and working on my sloth skills. Also volunteered to coach U7 and U10 boys soccer teams this spring, so I’ll have something to do for the next 8-9 Saturdays. Cooler today and down to 46F now, but at least all the rain has departed, at least until Wednesday.

FCM, I had nuns for my CCD classes, but don’t remember anybody mentioning masturbation… And looking at the Weather map at weather Underground, looks like the worst of the storm will be East of you along the coast. And what kind of shoes go in a bucket of water and then the laundry?

You are an odd person but I still like you a lot…

You’re now a very odd person but I still like you.

JtC, sounds like you got the weather I had Saturday. Hope the power stayed on. And you do what you do because you believe in it–both for the hawks and now for us. Proud of you.

Oopsie. trust that you stayed home and did little.

Rilchian, don’t envy her parents or you. And didn’t know there was a stage production of Mary Poppins, will have to watch for that around here.

VanGo, glad you are OK and the boat is (almost) out of your hair.

rocky, nice catch with the hawk pair; think they’ll nest near you?

And I think I’m caught up, mea culpas to anyone I missed. Time to finish the night’s internettin’ and get started on this Sunday’s NY Times (it’ll last me until Wednesday or Thursday). Take care all and I’ll catch you on the next MMP.

Monsoon #4 just started.

They’re Skechers. In fact the same ones I bled all over when I fell last summer and tore my shin up. The blood all came out so I’m hoping for the same luck with the greasy mess.

The latest forecast is that the rain starts at 11. Such screwy weather. Daughter is south and east of us, and she said they just got some drizzles. And that’s the latest from St. Mary’s County, MD.

We just finished the 3rd murder story on The Bay. I’ll be heading back to bed soon. Dunno if I’ll be able to check in tomorrow morning, but if not, try not to worry - I’ll just be doing dirty work.

That’s seriously good work all 'round by everyone.

Yep, closed every Monday. Even God rests once a week … and Tuesday is “Box Day” a.k.a. delivery, when the entire kitchen seemingly is filled with boxes for the first hour.

Like, you can barely walk through.

… then a whirlwind of activities happen & everything is not-so-magically stowed in its proper place.

You mean credit/debit/tap-pay payments? All goes into the same pile.

Again, that is for this particular very small franchise; many places handle tip pooling quite differently.

But to my knowledge, whether the tip originated in a cash payment or something digital is irrelevant.

Ohhhhhh, my gawd. I don’t get nostalgic for TX often, but damn that hit me in some feels.

Went in today during a helluva snowstorm: big, fluffy “lake effect” drifts, and swirling winds that couldn’t make up their minds so they went everywhere at once.

Like being in a snowglobe.

Getting things set up, one of the guys decided he really wanted coffee, so bought me one in exchange for fetching, plus a mocha for S.M.
Fine by me!!

Sprinkles showed up just as I was heading out, and I thought, “Dang, that would suck to see everyone else prancing around with Fancy Coffee :trade_mark:” so I bought her one, as my pay-it-forward to karma. Didn’t know what she likes, so I just asked them to make me a small, hot, “whatever is sweetest.” Girl loves her sugar.
I think it was a Snickers coffee? I dunno, but she said she really liked it, which made my little heart happy.

Plus she walked in to work - showed up with snow on her shoulders - and seemed to appreciate getting warmed from within. (She lives near-ish.)

Emo Guy (teen I give rides sometimes) took over the ovens tonight, and y’all he fucking. nailed. it.
I’m not adding him to the “Oven Master” pantheon quite yet, but he impressed S.M. several times.
Good job, dude, good job.

And then, after the mini-blizzard, things cleared up (atmospherically speaking) so thoroughly that we had a very pretty sunset in a mostly-clear sky, and a gorgeous moon in a completely clear sky smiling down on us.

So overall, it was a good night.
