(Old) Who's thinking about summer plans in the MMP?

You left out a couple steps in the middle:

put it on the stove and set the timer. Bring the timer with you so you can hear it ding while you Go do other things. When the timer dings, Bring it with you when you go back in the kitchen so you can find it again, then check the water.

Howdy Y’all! Candle duty got handled and we brunched. Then we rambled almost to the Alabammy state line. I was drivin’ down some backroads I had not been on in several years and suddenly realized we were within a mile of the state line. That was a loooooong ramble, but it was fun. Nappage was needed after that. We sat out under the gazebo and warded off scurvy and malaria twice. Still hawt out so glad to be inside in the a/c.

So St. Louis really did get hit hard. So far 4 confirmed fatalities, but a bunch of collapsed buildings that haven’t been entirely searched yet.

It also weirdly managed to hit Washington University, where I currently work, the Pershing/DeBaliviere neighborhood where I lived during grad school, Union Avenue Christian Church, which is home to an opera company I’ve sung with a bunch, and just missed the Cathedral Basilica, where I currently sing. It was like a greatest hits of places I could have been but wasn’t.

Then it curled north where it did the bulk of the building damage.

We had a prolonged thunder storm earlier and are up to over an inch of rain now. No power or interweb flickers though.

He used to always have a towel in his vehicle to indulge me. Then he learned how handy towels can be on the road and now always insures that he always knows where his towel is. I feel bery proud.

MetalMouse - FCD got one of his cars detailed before trading it and the dealer said it added to its value because it looked good. Maybe he fibbed, but it couldn’t hurt.

I have a towel that’s over 40 years old. I read The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy on the way back from Europe. After using Let’s Go: Europe for five weeks, it was especially funny. When I got home I bought a white towel and had a shop iron on DON’T PANIC in those fuzzy letters. It hasn’t been used much, but know where it is.

The Korean guy who owns the restaurant smiled and waved at The Missus through the window. (We go there every couple of weeks.)

TJ’s salmon pinwheels, with cauliflower with Velveeta for dinner tonight. Can’t wait. I’m hungry. The Spousal Unit made herself a Hemingway daiquiri. I’m having some Evan Williams bourbon.

there’s that “old fashioned term”; “It sort of says a bag with different things in it.”

When we played putt putt on Sunday, there were 11 holes. But it was on the grounds at Cranbrook Art Museum. The course was designed by the graduate art students. There were several that were the same from 2 years ago but a number of new ones. On one of them you used your club like a pool cue to shoot the golf ball across a table with obstacles on it. Was tres fun.

We had Hubs car detailed and sanitized before he came home from the hospital after his transplant last year. Cost approx $250 if memory serves.

Went to the Cranbrook plant sale and just went to the part where the native plants were for sale. I bought trillium, milkweed and strawberry plants.

Have to go back to Kroger as forgot to put a number of items on the “grocery” list and if it isn’t on the list, it normally doesn’t get purchased.

Tata for now.

Back on line 6 hours sooner than promised. Methinks they’re messing with us…

I hate Breezeline. I have tried repeatedly to set up auto-pay and it’ll work once or twice, then it won’t. I’ll be contacting them on Moanday with strong words, dammit! I get tired of the $5 late charge. Dammit.

Thank you! I forgot that other folks don’t have super ears like mine. I can hear the kitchen timer when I’m out on the front porch with the door closed.

My problem is that hearing it doesn’t mean that I’ll get off my ass and do anything. If my phone alarm starts dinging, I can just shut it off and keep doing whatever it is I’m doing. If the kitchen time is going off, I have to get up and deal with it cause otherwise I can’t focus on whatever it is I’m doing.

I’m so glad you had a good drive, I always enjoy a good ramble

I’m so happy you were missed and sad for all of those folks who have been hurt and killed. I do hope your state has good disaster plans in place cause I already know that FEMA won’t show up. Or at least they didn’t when WV flooded so badly a few months ago. The only uniforms we saw were National Guard and I know that the Red Cross never showed up.

Oh, no doubt!

Keeping track of my towel has served me well all of these years, no reason to stop now!

I’m so happy you found milkweed. I’m still trying to find the native stuff here. Finding native plants is harder than it should be, says the woman who is trying to grow a lemon tree in WV.

(Which is so very happy now that it is outside. It’s growing leaves and the trunk is straightening out. The main problem is that when it rains too much the top of the tree is so heavy that the root ball can’t hold on and the whole thing starts leaning over.)

We took the dressing off Hub’s stitches today per doctor orders and they look very good. The edges of his skin are red but not angry looking and there was only a little bit of blood seeping from two of the stitches. It didn’t feel warm and he says it doesn’t hurt more than it should.

We know all about stitches and wound care, he used to work with sheet metal.

I spent much of the afternoon sitting on the porch, sipping ‘shine and watchin’ the rain. My begonias are going nutz, and my fuschia is covered with flowers. My bag o’ potatoes is almost 8 inches tall and the onions are doing very well.

Radishes, lettuce and tomatoes…not so much and I really don’t get it. They are getting full sun from dawn until mid afternoon and they certainly are getting enough water. Gardening with magic sky water is so much different than controlling everything myself.

That really is not bad, considering what is involved. There is a detail place on the way to town and I’ve seen them take the seats out of cars so they can clean the rails with q-tips.

Welcome back. I always tell folks that it will take longer than I expect. If I get it done sooner, they are happy. If I take longer, they have been warned.

Dinner was a success. How could it not be, with TJ’s Salmon Pinwheels? 400º Ferret Height for 23 minutes. She actually finished off the cauliflower. She’s not a big fan of cauliflower. Stouffer’s microwave cauliflower in cheese sauce was a staple growing up. The cauliflower with Velveeta is pretty much the same thing. Usually there’s leftover veg. Not tonight! I only had one serving. Now she’s having TJ’s Pound Plus dark chocolate for dessert.

I wanna do this, but a wanna do it there with JtC on her porch gazing at her forest, sigh…she’s gonna need more ‘shine.

Oh, I would love to share my forest watchin’ with you. I’ve even got new porch furniture cushions ordered so the chairs will be comfy.

No worries about running out of 'shine, we can just go to the Hatfield distillery and listen to history in person while doing tastings to find just the right quart jar we want to bring home. We’ll stop at Tudor’s fer biskits and pork gravy on the way.

No training required.

That sounds like a fun course. The most unusual one that I’ve ever played on was [Golgotha Golf] (Golgotha Bible Mini Golf (Gone), Cave City, Kentucky) when SIL, niece, nephew, et al spent a weekend at Cave City, KY. The water hazard was the Red Sea. It was religiously cheesy as only a tourist trap in the mid-south can be.

I’ve been MIA due to a) dog b) APAP issues (requiring multiple phone calls) c) sister-in-law d) document complications (son trying to get dual citizenship).

Ms. Dog is here and has been very good. I was going to take her to the falls yesterday, but when we got to the turn-off to the park near the lake, she insisted she’d rather go there. We saw ducks, dogs, and many kind people. Then this morning, she hornked on the rug for no other reason than she’s got a princess-and-the-pea stomach. I tried to get her on the easier-to-clean floor, but 9 out of 10 discriminating dogs prefer carpet.

SIL: Ugh. I won’t go into the whole story, but my SIL called my daughter. She never calls any of her niblings. My daughter was at a work event and couldn’t answer, and SIL apparently left a VM for me on some stranger’s phone. The next day I had TWO people to calm down after SIL contacted my daughter who, to be clear, has a very demanding job and no time to talk. My daughter was by far the easiest to soothe. However, SIL is now stressed over other stuff. She’s calling me in a while because she’s angry with my brother. Before anyone says I should distance myself, I volunteered for this, and I’m still hoping I can prevent more damage to my brother and the rest of the family.

I need martinis on an IV drip or something.

On a walk today, Ms. Dog had a standoff with a cat I’ll call Bluto. Bluto is a big cat with a face like a Crips mug shot. He’s big. He’s mean. And he’s not backing down. Instead of streaming under a car as tradition dictates, he stood menacingly on the sidewalk like he’d just stolen Chuck Norris’ lunch money. Ms. Dog and I waited. She kept insisting she could take him. I am wise to the ways of the cat and the delusions of dogdom, however, and merely rolled my eyes. We’d probably still be out there if a city bus hadn’t rolled up. Bluto looked pityingly at it and sauntered up a driveway, probably to jack gramma’s walker.

Shoot. Phone. My SIL.

Not a lot of sleep today, and Spot is a bit irked. But I did spicy tuna steak with soba noodles, and salad with sesame ginger dressing.

I’d send 'em to D.C., and let them starve to death.

This.

Workers comp.

Contusions, but no serious damage.

I like 'em greenish yellow.

I know people who know people, if you ever change your mind.

'Shine’s good for me.

Thanks, as if I haven’t had “Henry my boy” as an earworm for the past week.
Mother be quick, I’m gonna be sick and lay me down to die.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 89 and cloudy. The big item on today’s agenda is mowage. We are once again in danger of bein’ the worst yahd in da ‘hood. That just can’t be! Nappage and hopefully some quality cee-mint pond time are planned as well. Any need to feed will be via forage as we have plenty of sammich makin’s, chips and so forth.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! John Deere awaits! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

I am pretty sure I posted this here last year but maybe not. Fifty years ago today:

Congrats on half a century!!

It looks menacing outside, but supposedly, any nasty weather will hit and run within an hour or so, then gradually clearing to sunny and hot. picnic at the marina should be a go. Fingers crossed.

I walked the driveway last evening after the storm - some significant branches have fallen - small enough for me to fling out of the way but big enough that it’ll take my mini chainsaw to cut them up. I saw a really big branch in the back yard - potential firewood.

Ziva is pacing around yelling at me - no clue why since she has food and water. I gave her a good brushing last night - I guess it’s seasonal shedding time. Woooof, the hair!!

Anyway, must finish my breakfast and get on with my surfage. Happy Saturday!!

I’ve got the ice maker running and I set a timer so it won’t get over-full before it goes in the freezer bin. Trust me - I know what I’m doing. Anyway, I’ve got a timer set on my PC and it plays Edelweiss as the alarm, which reminded me of this.

Back in high school, I had a friend who insisted the lyrics are “small and white, clean and bright, you look happy to me, to me” instead of “to meet me.” Nothing anyone said would convince her otherwise. So, to this day, every time I hear the song, I get an earworm of stoopit.

OK, carry on.

ETA - I just changed the alarm sound. Go me!
