(Old) Who's thinking about summer plans in the MMP?

Just got a delivery from Da Jungle. I know I mentioned it’s been raining here. As a result, the edges of the covered front porch are wet. For whatever reason, the delivery driver couldn’t manage to place the box another foot closer to the house.

However, I was home and saw the truck, and I got to the door as it pulled away. I brought the box in before the cardboard got saturated, which would have potentially soggied two smaller cardboard boxes within. Fortunately, no damage done. But good luck leaving that as feedback. There’s no option to write comments - just tick pre-determined boxes. I’ve cut way back on what I’ve ordered from them, and I shall be cutting backer.

FCD is napping and I have a small hunk of ham thawing for supper. Cabbage with onions and something else will be the sides. For now, tho, back to my tablet games.

Bathroom is cleaned, not perfect, but good enough. Used Tilex on the tile and grout. Bathroom window opened all the way to air out. I wore a mask. I’m downstairs with several doors closed and I still think I can smell chemicals.

Going to make BLTs for dinner. I had Broccoli cheese soup with brown rice for lunch and Hubs will eat the remainder along with his BLT.

Going to go workout on the NuStep now as it’s been raining most of the day so I don’t feel like walking and dodging puddles.

Paintcharge, If you decide to take on your new furry pal as a permanent resident, take him to the vet for a checkup. If he’s not a complete stray, he might already have an ID microchip, which the vet will scan for. Some cats are clever at having several “homes,” where the human thinks he’s the cat’s only human. If he is a true stray, the vet visit will probably save his life, because he’ll get his vax shots.

Happy birthday, Chefguy! :birthday_cake:

I still have ~45 minutes of work left today, but I just ate a giant chocolate chip cookie and am feeling blurfy (but it was worth it!) so I’ve decided to be a slacker and spend a little time posting here.

It’s been raining all day and isn’t supposed to stop until tomorrow. It’s quite dreary, but at least being in the office means that I’ve only had to turn a dry dog into a wet dog once so far (this morning). :joy: When I get home I’ll take Bailey out back, and she’ll become a wet dog again. She’s pretty good about staying in the kitchen while I towel her, but it’s not her favorite thing…or mine.

My people!!

If something’s normal state is FUBAR, wouldn’t it actually be SNAFU?

We where going to go to Iceland, tour the British Isles and then Norway.

This was my wife’s plan, she put the entire thing together. A GREAT trip. She did this for me. I’ve always wanted that trip. The last one she planned was Bavaria. Absolutely fantastic. Hawaii was OK.

Note, that we are trying to do this while we still can. Not getting any younger. We are hardly ‘Jet Setters’

But then, we bought our perfect retirement house, now we have to sell our current house, and move into the new house.

It took a bit, but I did convince my wife to cancel the (month long) trip. We just can’t be away in the middle of all of what is going on. No way. My wife hesitated, but did end up agreeing, and has told me numerous times that this is the way to go. Trip is postponed for a year.

We have way too many moving pieces as it is. No way we can leave for a month.

Good point!

BTW, @missred I wanted to mention that if you are ever road-tripping by Lake Powell, try to get a room at the Rodeway Inn. Ask for the handicapped room by the exit to the picnic area and facing the mountains.

There is no pool. The rooms with fireplaces haven’t been functional during the decade I’ve visited, but they keep promising that they will be opened soon.

The room AC’s struggle and are loud, there isn’t a restaurant close.

But it is Americana like we remember from our youth. It has been uniquely decorated and every room is different. A few of the rooms still have working vibrating finger machines. You can look out the window and watch the light play over the painted mountains and will know when it’s dinner time because all of the horses living behind the motel will gather at their gate to watch for their catering truck to arrive.

Maybe remind MusicMan to ask for time off that weekend? That should give the PTB timw to schedule other folks to take over.

Happy advance birthday and anniversary. Both things changed the world for the better

We haven’t made plans yet because we can’t decide. Last year we went to Italy. It was great but a little overwhelming.

Anyone have any suggestions? We live in California.

Tell me more!

Well, FCD didn’t want a real supper, so we’ll forage. I’ll do the ham-n-cabbage tomorrow.

While we were at Aldis I found some bread cheese along with a nice selection of cheddars. I heated a baguette roll then cut it diagonally and toasted the slices. I sliced all four cheeses and make a plate with pickles, garlic stuffed olives, slices of avocado, cherry tomatoes and salami roses. Then I heated the bread cheese until it was melty and plated it next to the toast bits.

It was so yum and looked very pretty. Hubs has actually started noticing when I make the effort to make our food pretty which encourages me to continue. Next time I’ll add some radish roses.

I logged in to renew my driver’s license, and it said I’m ineligible because it doesn’t expire for more than a year. I thought it said it expired in 2025. It’s hard to read because I’m wearing a dark jacket in the photo, and the date (in black) is over it. I got out a flashlight, and waddya know? It doesn’t expire until 2026!

I stopped at the new Aldi for a few items today. It was only the second time I’ve been here (it opened when I was in the horsepistol), but it was pretty predictable. I could get used to the geezer shopping hours, given how slow the store was.

Nelson has been suited up several times in the last couple of days. He still doesn’t like going out in the rain, but at least he doesn’t fight it.

This sounds like a good stop. There were still magic finger beds at the Rodeway just off US70N in Cookeville, TN 20 years ago. SIL and I landed there during a weeklong ramble through the backroads of east Tennessee one night when it was too stormy to camp.

I picked up some absolutely luscious strawberries while I was at Aldi today. I usually don’t buy produce there, but I figured that these wouldn’t last past the two days that their produce usually does.

I’m pounding my head against the wall talking to the :snerk: STD folks. Since they and my ortho can’t seem to get their collective poop in a group, I’m going to print out the forms to take to my appointment later in the week, tell the PA that they need to be completed then and there, bring them home, scan and send them to the :snerk: STD @$$holes.

cookie Hippo Birdies!

That’s a new one for me. Had to look it up. Sounds tasty, may have to brave the local Aldi to see if they have any.

Another nice quiet day at work where I went to the warehouse and built so stuff. Tomorrow will be crazy, we have an exhibition coming in at the same time as 2 field trips totaling about 100 4th graders.

Oh good, you know what Rodeway’s are. All of the rooms have windows that actually open and working ceiling fans. The picnic area is mostly shaded and is a nice place to sit outside while watching the sunset over the painted desert. The tobacco smokers all tend to hang out in one corner and us potheads were in another which allowed the rest of the rather large area to be smoke free.

There are no stairs going to the picnic area or through that door. The dog walk area is on the other side of the picnic area and was only half fenced when I was there two years ago. The room I suggested has two full sized beds and framed studio photo’s of old western actors.

There is a floor under the main rooms that are occupied by long term renters, so the room I suggested is on the “second” floor and you don’t have to worry about leaving your window wide open while you sleep. Plus is right next to the door which will be a good thing when the place burns down because of an electrical fire. Which won’t happen while you are staying there, LOL!

I’ve never had it either but will look for it again.

But now you won’t be in charge of herding gradschoolers. They will come with their own handlers so all you will need to do is not kill anyone while you are moving heavy stuff. Which will be a challenge no matter how old they are.

Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and put where it lives until it gets dirty again. I need a new pair of black dressy pants. The pair I have are startin’ to look shabby. I wear them on Sundays I serve cause black is better under a black cassock and white surplice or black cassock and long black verger vest or under a white alb and cincture. I be stylin’ when I serve! Maybe I should spring for two pairs of pants. I digress. The afternoon was taken up by nappage, day drinkin’ and the makeage of sup, which, of course, got supped.

I don’t like long or very high bridges or windy and twisty mountain roads. I very much understand those phobias.

New “flavors” of Lays chips at Meijers; bacon grilled cheese and korean style fried chicken.
It was 73 and humid. I like that.
Starting to read Paper Doll by Dylan Mulvany.
Ex called today, ha! Will elaborate later.

The sign-making yesterday was…OK…I guess. I was one of the very few there who wasn’t a member of the sponsoring group. The sponsor group was OK, but not overly friendly, probably because they didn’t know me. While there were tons of supplies, there was barely any place to actually make the signs. That’s OK, as I was glad for the supplies. Between the wobbly table and my lack of fine motor skills, my poster looked like it was made by an alcoholic goldfish.

And then–WHOSH!–it suddenly rained buckets. The few non-members had already left. I couldn’t walk 3 miles in the rain without my sign disintegrating, so I had to wait in the tent for a very long time. I’m somewhat shy in these situations, but I did try to start conversations. People would pleasantly answer questions, but that was it. Anyway, I didn’t get home until after 7.

In better news, I’m handling the APAP better. I sit on the edge of the bed and give myself a little talk beforehand, and that helps.

I’m trying to find this one OTC med, the only antihistamine that does anything for the itching. I’ve been taking extended release chlorpheniramine for years now, as it’s the only antihistamine of any kind that helps. (The shots are good but not enough.) It lasts for 12 hours. The one company making it has quit production. I can still get the 4-hour kind, but it’d mean setting an alarm to get up at least once during the night. The allergist is trying to find it, too, so fingers crossed there!

Happy Birthday, cookie! May all. your birthday wishes come true! And I hope your wife gets a solid diagnosis and treatment at the urgent care.

VanGo, I hope the new kitty is there to stay. Then I think she needs a name, and we all need photos, please!

You could have ended that sentence right there. (I’m partial to nutty critters, human, feline or canine. Squirrelly squirrels are the exception.)

Taters, happy gardening!

Hi, y’all. I and a couple of friends started walking near Fairhaven, Washington, a few days ago, and we’ve gotten as far as Burnaby, BC. Our goal is the University of British Columbia campus. But for the moment, my goal is a nap.

May not be worth anything, but this company says they have 12 hour ER version.

Happy birthday, chefguy! Many happy and healthy years!

Mrs. L.A. had a bologna-and-American cheese on sourdough for dinner. She didn’t want her leftover T-bone from Saturday, so I had it with the rest of the creamed spinach w/feta.

Happy birthday, Chefguy!
