(Old) Wrapping up Feb in the MMP

Oopsie, Bailey is so beautiful!!! I hope that many hugs and scritches and help both of you to feel good.

Shoe, well, there’s always duct tape for the shelf?

I am slowly inching towards feeling better. We’ll see how breakfast goes today. They’ve decided that MusicMan has to work tomorrow which is a total bummer because we never got to celebrate his birthday last weekend since we were both sick. Bah humbug.

I’m not sure if we’ll do something to celebrate this weekend or not then.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 45 Amurrkin out and N.O.S. with a predicted high of 73 and N.O.S. No biggie plans for today, so we shall be RDOS as is our wont. I think sup will be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit.

Oopsie indeed, I did not have popcorn last night. I shall rectify that tonight. Bailey is a cutie pie!

doggio Happy Doperversary!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

Showered, dressed and watching the clock till it’s time to leave. I’m thinking that while the washer is washing, I’ll rake out back so I can go in and out to deal with the laundry - at least till my raking muscles protest. It’s a pretty day, tho cooler than yesterday.

We’ll see how it goes.

BTW, I’ve got a patch of daffodils with buds - that’s a sign of spring, right?

Here in California, daffodils are a February flower.

Last night, as I was lying upstairs reading in bed, I heard a dog on the street barking excitedly and aggressively. This is a common occurrence here, as it’s a popular dog-walking street and sometimes dogs react aggressively when they see another dog being walked. The dog sounds were followed by the sound of people talking and chattering. The talking sound went on and on, so I got up to look out and see what was going on.

There was a small group of people surrounding something on the ground, and someone in the center was performing CPR. I was horrified that a child had been hit by a car, but when I could see better, I saw that it was a dog and someone was doing chest compressions on it. It was a medium-sized, snow-white dog that I didn’t recognize. The CPR went on for several minutes before I heard someone say “I’m sorry”. Then the dog was picked up and carried away and the crowd dispersed.

I don’t think the dog was hit by a car; there were no screeching brakes or painful yiping. Just the aggressive loud barking before the incident. I did hear someone in the small crowd say “epinephrine.” Poor doggie.

Good morning all. Slept until about 6:30am so feeling pretty good to start the day. Friday shopping is on the list, just waiting for the morning traffic to clear before heading out. Otherwise another fairly slothful day, might do a load or two of laundry but nothing really needed, so maybe not. Do want to get my swimming in this afternoon, so that will keep me occupied for a couple of hours. 47F now but heading to 70F according to the Weather Wizards, so it’s been a good week.

boo fae, squirrely worker does not seem to be getting it; maybe a visit by DOGE can be arranged… :scream:  :grinning: And the hot water must flow!

FCM, enjoy the show.

Sticky Buns, keep on improving.

lucky, a sad tale to tell; do dogs have heart failure like we do?

And about an hour to go until the children are all in school and the 9am workforce is in place, so will internet until then. Have a good Firday all.

BooFae, no hot water sounds like a reason for a WFH day. I hope that things are able to be done with no additional inconvenience.

Enjoy RoxStar’s show, Moooooooom.

How sad, lucky. It does have me looking up classes for doggy CPR though.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, bed stripped, a load of sheets / towels in the dryer, jeans in the wash, everything else on deck and fixing to do KP / houseirk.

I’ve debated participating in the no buy day today, but frankly, if I just buy it all tomorrow, there’s no point. IOW, the man is going to get my money either way.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Morning all. Since work is Mon thru Thr (4 10 hour shifts) Fridays are my sleep late days, thus I’m just getting up.

Mrs Sario informed me last night that she wishes to attend the Mardi Gras parades tonight so I need to get all my stuff for the day done before 6ish. Thus I need to get a move on.

Happy Friday yall.

We’ve made it to Friday and survived all of February. That’s got to count for something, right?

I’m meeting a group of ladies for lunch, and it usually lasts 3 or more hours so that’ll take up a good chunk of the afternoon. We used to work together but now we’re all at separate companies. It’s a small industry with a lot of volatility so there’s been several times some of us have ended up working together again. We try to meet for lunch or dinner every couple of months. I’m hoping there’s been enough work and family drama to talk about that politics don’t get brought up.

shoe I hope you (and your coworkers) have a better day today, and that the accountant has good news for you!

red good luck with the work changes. A good supervisor can be worth trying to stick with, as a bad one can ruin what was a good job.

boo fae I think you should ask about the second laptop. They probably have some spares sitting around and wouldn’t need to special order one for you.

lucky that’s so sad :frowning:

Mornin’ my friends.

It’s 40F and mostly clear outside. Our expected high temperature is 62F, and we will have a mix of partly cloudy to mainly sunny skies throughout the day.

Oopsie, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you. Bailey looks so adorable!

FCM, the same goes for your daughter. Enjoy Roxie’s show.

Sticky Buns, I hope your road to recovery is ending and you’re feeling 100% very soon.

Shoe, sending you hugs and wishing the best for your co-workers going through so much.

BooFae, I’m sorry Squirrel Brain couldn’t correctly handle things in your absence. I’ve been there and done that, and I understand the frustration.

Well, I endured another four days of hell. We’re all exhausted, both mentally and emotionally. Reductions in force are next, and no one is safe, even very long-serving employees. I found out some of my peers in sister agencies are noping out. They couldn’t take it anymore. I will miss them; their agencies have lost much knowledge and experience. We made a great team. Other nasty stuff continues, and I seriously wonder if I’ll have a job in a month. It’s hard to remain positive and show that to our employees and peers. We have brief commiseration or venting periods and then get back to work. Because that NEVER stops, and the calls keep coming in for more.

However, I’m off today because I have comp time to burn. Next week, I’m the Acting Deputy (and Director), so it’ll probably be even worse. But that’s next week, and for now, I’m gonna play with my dogs, take care of some chores, maybe take a walk, and pray that I don’t receive any ominous emails.

I continue to reach out to my Congress critters. For all the good it does, I will keep doing so.

JtC, thank you for fighting the good fight.

Time to move on to the chores. Hugs to all, just because.

Raised in the wild…
More beast that man…
His bloodlust can only be quenched by ice cubes…

He is…Spot!

I guess the extra two hours helped, things seemed to go more smoothly. Apart from trying to load 2 package cars on opposite ends of the building.

Besides, the last time an English person ran out of tea, nuclear missiles were launched, and a whale and a bowl of petunias were created at a substantial altitude.

:frowning:

{{{{Taters}}}}

I do it mainly so they won’t be shocked when the mobs show up to express their dissatisfaction on how things have been going.

Thanks. < blushes a bit >

Ah, yes, that too!

Nah, I gotta go to the big orange hardware sto’ and get L brackets.

I should be picking up the dragon soon. Grandma Co-worker is still in horsepital, will no doubt learn more soon.

Had to drag myself to the accountant, lotsa deeeeep breaths on the roughly 4 minute drive.

I owe the feds roughly an entire month’s rent. (!!) But the state owes ME virtually the same amount.
How the fuck does THAT happen?
I also owe the city a coupla hundred … a bit ouchie, but doable.
Michigan taxes are weird, y’all.

Imma lay down with Monkey for a bit, and await the arrival of the dragon. (Not really, I hafta go get his ass. And associated hardware: tank, heater, etc.)

I think the point is to show power in numbers - as in “Hey, Mr. Billionaire, this many people are opposed to what you’re doing and are willing to deny you our money.” May or may not be effective, but if it sends a message…

We asked her about that today. Apparently her bosses up several levels aren’t concerned. The projects she supports (she said there are 60+ of them) are involved with intelligence and security. Of course, who knows what King Elon will do next.

The first graders’ show was adorable!! They had songs about Groundhog Day, Valentine’s day, President’s day, the 100-school-day mark (I think it was Feb 6?), snow, and they ended with a salute to Black History Month by singing This Little Light of Mine. Oh, and Roxy’s teacher said she was destined for stardom. My granddaughter is a little ham! She was on the top row (because she’s tall) and the teacher moved her to the center because she has such enthusiasm! The little boy next to her barely moved, but my bestest girl was sooooo into it! I’ll see if I can steal a pic or two from Daughter. I didn’t bother taking my phone,

First load is in the washer. I just finished cleaning the landing where the cat box is - even with a covered box, she manages to get litter spread thither and yon! I used to use a dustpan and brush, but ti’s quicker and easier to use electrical suckage.

Once the next load goes into the washer, I’ll get to raking. It’s quite pleasant outside.

I splurged and spent $3.29 on the soup with the dings EXTRA NOODLES. I hope it’s as good as it was when I was 7.

this morning i went to the small store in the building and there was an incident, police were in the store. this was 8:30ish. the poor clerk! an aggressive person was threatening. luckily a delivery man was in the store and our security person provided back up for her. the aggressive man moved on. the police said they would be in the area and look for him.

this comes in as:

the chairs arrived! they are gorgeous!
we were told the chair would arrive between 10 and 12. i go to the lobby at 10 and was told that they had the 15 minute warning. then there was a flurry of excitement as a large truck got stuck. the police were on the scene quickly as they were monitoring our area. they were able to help with traffic.

there was much discussion about was that our truck or a different truck. confusion as some said yes, then no, then yes. 10 minutes later it was indeed our truck and it got unstuck. (there is a jog in the street where it goes around train tracks.)

the chairs start rolling in, and get put into place. there are 10 and they are 4 on one side, 2 in the middle, and 4 on the other side.

and now the other furniture looks a bit shabby… isn’t that always the way.

the maintaince crew moved all the furniture out of the lobby earlier, and 2 of the old chairs are now in the laundry room. so much better than the laminate bench that was there. one person used the chairs this morning waiting for the dryer to finish. she approved the change.

i’m now considering lunch…

I don’t know what I’m going to do today (except I will pick up my grand daughter from school and drop her off at home), but I do know what I’m not going to do and that is spend money anywhere, in solidarity with I hope many millions of other aggrieved people. No groceries, no fast food (sorry shoe), no on line ordering, nothing.

I’ll probably just sit here with my sweet cat snoozing on my lap and fret about how to squeeze enough blood out of my Social Security budget stone so I can buy desperately needed post cataract surgery prescription glasses and hearing aids. Medicare boasts that they pay for one pair of eyeglasses after surgery but it turns out that ‘pays for’ means a $69 allowance for frames and a discount on lenses, so said pair would cost me $393 out of pocket after the ‘allowance’ and ‘discount’. To make it even more special, dealing with Medicare is so convoluted and frustrating that very few opticians will even do it and the ones that do are the ones where there aren’t $69 frames and progressive lenses start at $500+. You want anti-reflective on those glasses? Each coating is $100 per and not a penny of that will Medicare pay, even though medically my doctors say I need anti-reflective and blue blocking at a minimum. In Lincoln, the capital and the second largest city in the state, all of two opticians have the Medicare contract, my optometrist where it would be $393 out of pocket without the $100 anti-reflective coating I really need (so really $493 OOP) or Wal Mart optical. Wal Mart prices out at over $305 out of pocket, assuming I could find a $65 frame there that fits comfortably and I could stand. At least their anti-reflective would be only $60, that gets it down to $365 OOP. Swell.

I hobbled over to Costco optical, who doesn’t contract with Medicare (and now I understand why). Leaving this supposed insurance promise out of it I could pay $228 and get high quality frames, high index specialized progressives with an enhanced reading sweet spot and all the coatings-anti-reflective, anti-scratch, blue-blocking and UV blocking. Plus $50 off prescription single vision readers or prescription sunglasses.

Somebody needs to lean on Medicare to stop pretending to pay for one pair of eyeglasses post cataract surgery. Don’t even dangle that Charlie Brown football false promise out there, it’s cruel. I wasted a lot of time, energy, spoons (effort) and hope pursuing a false promise from da Feds. Tiny, insignificant small potatoes compared to the cruelties inflicted on the rest of you, I know. I’m really indignant and fed up for all of us.

So no groceries, fast foods, gas, Target type stores, chain restaurants or on line ordering for me today. None.

Mostly that was a long-winded way to say I vehemently agree with our mooom:

…. I think the point is to show power in numbers - as in “Hey, Mr. Billionaire, this many people are opposed to what you’re doing and are willing to deny you our money.” May or may not be effective, but if it sends a message…

Bbboooo, sent you a PM

I loved the teeny, skinny noodles! Can’t recall the last time I had it, tho. Decades, I’m sure.

BBBoo - have you looked at this site? I bought a pair there last year and the price was good. I wish I’d chosen different frames, so not being able to try them on was a disadvantage, but if you know what you want, it might be worth a look.

First load is out of the dryer and second is in. Third (and last) is in the washer. I’ve raked up a bunch of leaves from around the deck - it’s a start. And I saw some hostas starting to peek thru the soil. Can spring be far behind?

OK, time to fold the first load…

He is such a good boy. He has quite the back story.

Girl with the dogs is a really great YouTube channel.

There is different video where an animal hospital called Vanessa to help this poor dog encased in matted fur. Vanessa went though many blades to get the pup free. That pup must have been so happy.

Happy noontime all. And yes,I did my Firday Kroger shopping, some habits are hard to break, but I did limit it to just what I needed (with the 4x points bonus) to make it to a $2.00/gallon gas discount and will wait for next week before buying the rest. (actually, I rationalize a lot…). Will not add to corporate profits anymore today, that’s for sure.

63F outside. not a drop of rain to be seen anywhere so might hang up the light-heavyweight jacket and just go with the spring/fall one now.

BBBoo, don’t blame you for being frustrated, I usually get a ‘spare’ pair under Medicare and then go to Wal-Mart for my ‘good’ pair, so that’s my plan for April.

FCM, sounds like the show was a hit! Bet Tobester will be similar when he reaches that age.

Rio, enjoy the parade.

52, enjoy the lunch.

{{Taters}}. I went through the Reagan RIF years (I worked for the DoD which he liked, so not as much stress as you folks are under).

shoe Glad you (almost) broke even on the taxes, I owed the USG this time but the state will make about 80% of it good with their refund. Enjoy the drago…(brain says; "your becoming redundant’).

wet one, now you have me wanting soup, and I just finished my sammiches!

rocky, glad the clerk had some backup on hand; if JtC had been there it would have been even better…and congrats on the new chairs, may you sloth in them for years.

Yeah, that was heartbreaking but so glad they were able to help.

OK, need to get my swimmin’ gear together and go beat the water into submission. Take care all.

When we took in our long-departed Scruffy from the street, she got her name because she was seriously matted. She definitely had a poodle coat, tho she was low to the ground like a wiener dog. The groomer shaved her, removing a thick, matted mess. No idea how long she’d been on the streets, but she was clearly neglected. I think we had her 4 or 5 years - she was pretty old when we found her.

Dunno - he’s not quite as outgoing as his sister - at least around strangers. But he’s just 3, so who knows what the future holds.

First load folded and put away. Timer set for second load, since I can’t hear the dryer from upstairs. It’s just a 3-load day today.

FCD is futzin’ in his shop - he needs to make a couple more parts and deliver them to the fabricators building our tanks. I think I’ve earned some recliner time. I actually worked up a sweat as I raked!
