(Old) You Get A Gold Star In The MMP

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 15c/58f with a predicted high of 23c/78f and cloudy. Weather app says “I’d love to give you some fucking quotes about clouds and looking on the fucking bright side, but that’s what fucking internet memes are for.” OK, won’t expect much from that today!

Thank you! It’s payday today for me, so I have transferred funds to my savings account and paid the only bill that doesn’t autopay

We are constantly at the “do more with much less” stage, and getting the usual empty platitudes from senior management.

Definitely! Sometimes it can be hard to catch up when you’ve missed even a day

I hope it goes well, everyone shows up and they’re suitably impressed with the cheese board and mead!

Irk yesterday was irksome but we got through it. I was expecting to collect 'im indoors from the station shortly afterwards but his train back from Scotland was delayed by over an hour, then he had to change trains on the way which he hadn’t expected to do. Fetched him home, had leftover chilli for dinner and watched a couple of episodes of “You” before bed.

Yesterday’s other major activity was collecting up the recycling stuff and hauling the biiiiig bin out to the kerb for today’s collection. Last time the dustcart rolled around at 7am. Now it’s closer to 9am and they’ve not been past yet. You can tell the kids are back at school after the easter break and the parents are having to take the little cherubs by car because they can’t walk that far.

Off to take 'im indoors back to the station very soon, he’s just getting himself together. Muffin’s back hiding in the bookcase today, I think she may have encountered The Enemy during the night as I left the door open a bit. She’ll come out when she’s hungry enough. Time to go!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 65 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 84 and partly cloudy. It’s laundry day. The anticipation is almost too much to handle. Outside of that RDOS inactivities will take up the day. Sup will be leftovers. How we keep up such a pace boggles the mind!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Howdy. I’ve been up since 3:30 this morning. I predict that I might encounter a nap mid morning or something like that. MusicMan seems a bit better this morning, but he hasn’t talked to his boss yet. I hope that conversation goes ok.

I’m heading to physical therapy in about 1 1/2 hours. And then my mom wanted to go to our little local craft store so I think we might do that this morning as well.

Around here, I understand why kids can’t walk to school, what with it being rural and all. What I don’t understand is parents who drive all of 200’ from the house to the road to pick up their darlings from the bus on a mild, sunny day. Seriously?? I’m not going to go into how I had to walk to the bus stop and stand in the snow/rain/wind every morning. I just don’t get it.

It got chilly enough overnight that the furnace came on!!! Spring? It is to laugh!!! But it’s supposed to hit the low 80s this afternoon. Glad I’m not going anywhere because I wouldn’t know how to dress. And I don’t know what today’s agenda is - we’ll work it out as we go along, I guess. I do need to gather household trash as many of the cans are close to full. That’ll fill maybe 15 minutes.

Last night, Ziva got brave and climbed into my lap for scritches. Apart from all the hair (she’s in major shed mode) something about her caused my eyes to water like crazy! I’m OK with cats as long as they don’t spend too much time in extremely close proximity. I guess I’m lucky that she mostly hides.

Caffeination continues. Happy Tuesday!!

Well good morning all. Slept pretty soundly and am ready for the next-to-last day of April (time moves to darn fast these days). Outside of the usual gym and soccer work, need to cash a check (about the only time I use a check these days) and do a couple things around the house. 68F now going to 85F later, so the AC will have it’s work cut out for it this afternoon.

For some reason You Tube is not working on my Firefox (it works fine on the Edge browser, I get either a blank screen or just a gray outline of the video boxes. Will do some research and maybe contact Firefox about it if it persists, I must have my Videos!!

lily, thanks for the grin this morning, and I earned most of your gold stars…

boo fae, the number of kids getting taken to school (and picked up) around here astounds me these days, getting a ride home was not common in my day (which admittedly was in the 1960’s/70’s) but now the line of cars around schools makes me avoid them on the rare days I have to be out that early.

swampy, Happy laundry day. Mine is probably coming up by the week’s end, just not sure how long i can stretch it.

FCM, let me get this straight…cats in close proximity for awhile cause your eyes to water but you have had cats for many years…I think you should be adopting boo fae’s foster feline…

And time to sample the Honeycrisp Apples that (IIRC) red recommended awhile ago and were on a coupon this week. Have a good 2sDay all.

Close proximity to my face, not just my person. I don’t understand it, but that’s what happens.

Happy Tuesday!

Today is Nelson’s eighth birthday (and his namesake’s 92nd), so treats and a trip to the dog park are in order. I also need to pick up a couple of things from the grocery store (I have to break the weekly trip down to manageable, single bag trips for now) and drop a couple of sympathy cards off at the blue box.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

It’s a quiet week in no. Illinois. This week I celebrate 20 years of living in my townhouse. This is the longest I’ve lived anywhere.

i did procrastinate on the bins… i went with lager time on the couch. koritza joined in as well.

perhaps there will be bin time tonight. i am getting a bit tired of them being in my way.

I’m being more and more RDOS these days, often laying in bed for 2+ hrs reading on my tablet or phone before I get up.

Printed the medication inventory as we have a zoom with Hubs’ Dr. early afternoon. Then I’ll fill 2 wks of pill boxes.

The bottom door closer on daughter’s side door is broken so when we were there on Sunday, I mentioned to Hubs that he should fix it. He went to Home Depot yesterday and purchased a new one so we’ll go late afternoon to fix it. I’m planning to dig up some green onions to take and plant for her. Then we’ll do dinner. I’d like :pizza: but I think Hubs may have his heart set on Sign of the Beefcarver. We shall see.

Well, the Big Storm never materialized in MSP, despite us being in the bullseye. It was headed straight for us, but at the last minute, it split into two systems that missed us completely, other than a bit of rain. I’m not complaining; who needs tornadoes and lighting and hail?

I made green chili stew yesterday, which was terrific, as usual. I restrained my usual impulse to make enough to feed a platoon and made a half batch. Gold Star? We’ll still be noshing on it for a day or two, of course.

This morning was frog toast with orange zest, baking spice and brioche. Most yummy.

The road construction gang is back, tearing up the street below our windows. Sadie likes to watch them when she’s not sleeping or chasing her tail. The busy life of a cat.

Had some palpitations yesterday when I decided to delete the McAfee bloatware from my laptop. It told me to restart, which I did, and then it basically froze up, with the “restarting” wheel of doom spinning. After a half hour of this and some minor panic, I shut it down completely, after which it started back up just fine. Whew.

Today looks to be a slow one again, unless I can convince myself to take a walk.

This summer will be 21 years here, and the same for both of us - we’ve moved around a lot, what with the Navy and all.

We got Daughter’s mini-split up and running, so they’re good to go. They’ll need to download the app so they can run it remotely if they wish, as in from inside the house, since the playhouse/clubhouse/outhouse is a separate building. Anyway, yay for getting that done. FCD is on his way to Fredericksburg for something to do with the fuel tanks. Daughter and SIL stopped here to assemble some baby furniture stuff that I’m going to sell for them - I couldn’t figure a few of the things out. So after I post the ad, I’ll make a quick run to Food Lion. Then home to maybe mow the back yard.

It’s a busier day than I expected!

These responses make me worry that some people aren’t getting the references I was making.

Splain, Lucy.

Anger Issues Guy is out for a bit, so I was on the 300 Sort Table today. Which left the 100 and 200 slides a bit of a mad house. Also, they finally got around to RTS-ing the 4 packages from the other address that was waving guns at one of our drivers. When I got home Spot was acting like a loon. He’s definitely non-composted Mentos.

“I have multiple cats, but I’ve never seen them.”

:champagne::partying_face::birthday:HAPPY BIRTHDAY NELSON(s)!!!:birthday: :partying_face: :champagne:

I’ve been in this joint for 15, and 10 in Da Hood. Before that, I was moving every 2-3 years.

Just had my first ride on the new John Deere - man, what a difference! Smoother ride, probably because it’s a heavier model, and it has an honest-to-goodness fuel gauge - no more sight gauge that kinda-sorta gave you an idea. It took a bit to figure out how to adjust the blades and start them - the symbols on the buttons were, well, interesting. But the back yard is no longer a jungle, so I count that as a win.

I posted an ad to sell the baby stuff. I’ve found that if you say FREE, people don’t feel obliged to show up even if they say they will. And, frankly, if a young couple with a baby shows up, they’ll get it all for free anyway. I’m just not going to give it to a flea-marketer to resell. Anyway, waiting for a response. Any response.

Lazies have set in. Not sure if I’ll do anything else.

One of the things I like about where I sit at work is that my cubicle is at the end of the row, so no one ever walks behind me/no one can see my screens. Which makes it easier to take mini-breaks (here, on FB, etc.) as needed. Another thing I like about it is that being at the end of the row means being in front of the windows – and I’m on the “good” side of the building (5th floor), so I can actually see some trees from my desk.

Ha! It’s totally genetic: hardly anyone on either side of my family looks their age.

But I use this.

As JtC commented, it’s challenging enough to ensure that voters are at the right building; I can’t imagine also having to make sure they use the right box.

Pins, Abigail!

I’ve always had a big ol’ baby face, appearing 10-15 years younger than I am. I actually developed a chip on my shoulder about it in my teens: consistently being misread and underestimated starts to get to a young person, and in my late 30s/early 40s it became a bit of a professional issue because I was starting to lead teams/manage proposals and I repeatedly had to overcome the perception that I couldn’t actually know what I was doing/talking about. I learned to never complain about it, though: people always acted like I was so lucky and should be so grateful (and everyone said “you’ll appreciate it later”), but I never saw any upside in my day-to-day life. I was well into my 40s before I learned about the concept of privilege and realized that there were likely benefits I wasn’t even aware of; e.g., how certain people interact with me vs women who look older. I finally ditched the chip right around when I turned 50. I think it helps that I finally look like a “grownup.”

Awww! Happy birthday, Nelson! :tada:

I recently hit 11 years in my current rental, which is my personal record by quite a lot: like doggio, before this I moved every 2-3 years.

I gave up the peripatetic life for Bailey. My current place is a good little house with a big yard in a great location, she’d already moved with me twice, and by the time I normally would have been ready to move I didn’t see a reason to uproot her again. That’s been especially true for the past 4 years, since she got into her teens. These days I’m grateful to be in a one-level place, because she would be miserable with stairs. Whenever she dies, I’ll definitely move: I’ve been ready for more house and less yard for a while now. I’ll be interested to see if I resume the “move every 2-3 years” thing. Flexibility is one of the benefits of renting, but moving gets more and more expensive with each place.

Indeed. These days if I have something to get rid of that I can’t in good conscience charge anyone for, I either put it out on the curb or (for larger items) pay someone to take it away. I’ll never post another “free” item on Facebook, Craigslist, etc.

Preach. Our 13 year stay in Portland was the longest I’ve ever lived anywhere in my entire life, even as a child. I honestly thought that it might be my final resting place, but one should never make plans.

The Spousal Unit bought a fuchsia the other day, and hung it in the corner of the catio. Abbey was out there chittering at it. It looked like a junco was starting to build a nest in it. I shooed the bird away, and I hope it took the hint.

We have a chain with ‘bells’ to catch the rainwater coming off the front porch roof. The bottom bells were in a flower pot with pebbles in it. Last week, I hit the pot with the lawnmower and broke it (the pot). I glued it back together Sunday. Today I washed the pebbles as well as I could, and put the pot back out front. The bells need to be cleaned out, but I haven’t done it yet. Maybe Wifey will take care of it.

Nine minutes until I clock back in from ‘lunch’, and then I have a Teams meeting at 14:00.
