I didn’t care about all the music, and it wasn’t as good as the Opening Ceremony, but I enjoyed the lunacy of both.
AND THEY PLAYED A KATE BUSH SONG IN ITS ENTIRETY!!! Hell, that alone makes it the greatest Closing Ceremony in history (as far as I’m concerned anyway). The one that comes close is Calgary in 1988, where kd lang came out and performed live, making everyone get up and dance.
Yep, NBC totally cut out the Kate Bush song. They cut out a lot more too. The first hour seemed to be reduced to 10-15 minutes. The entrance of the athletes took about, what 2 minutes?
Hell no - people on there have been cynics about the olympics from the start, but enjoyed the opening ceremony because it was good, and didn’t enjoy this because it wasn’t. I think it probably appealed more to an international audience rather than an audience who hears those songs repeatedly on the radio all the bloody time, including kate bush. Britpop represented by wonderwall, ffs.
It also just wasn’t as televisual as the opening ceremony - like a concert where you can bet the people there are enjoying themselves, but it’s a bit dull on screen.
I remember that. They introduced her with “Ladies and Gentlemen! The Alberta Rose, Miss K. D. Lang” and she came out dancing and spinning around singing “Spin Me Round”. It was great.
The fashion models are unforgivable, because the Olympics are all about striving to achieve things and fashion models are stick figures with pouty lips.
BTW, I missed mentioning that Russell Brand and Bond doing I Am The Walrus (the bus being an allusion to the Magical Mystery Tour) was quite enjoyable.
