This seems to be the trend: I’m seeing more and more, in other threads throughout this board, that people are simply boycotting some of the new smilies, and instead using constructions like:

and so forth.

Well there are the plaintext alternatives @@ and 9_9. I find them less obnoxious than the old rolleyes.

Not the technical explanation per se, but an explanation as to why bringing back the Old Ones or replacing some of the more comic sans smilies isn’t in the cards.
