OMG, was this ever appropriate...

Sorry for pegging the lame-o-meter with something that shoukd be in MPSIMS except for the topic.

I was leaving the university after a long day in the lab, and spotted something that I thought was one of the most appropriate (and unfortunate for the message bearer) color combinations ever. A car was parked in one of the faculty spots with a spirit flag mounted on one of the windows. In big black block letters was “Say No To War”, printed on a bright yellow background. :smack:

“Yellow” is a slang term for cowardice, for anyone not familiar with US jargon…

So being anti war means you are a coward? What branch of the military service did you serve in?

12 Years as a DoD REMF. I was medically unfit when I tried to enlist. How long were you in Canada?

Whoever made those flags didn’t consider the color of the cloth they printed on.

vunderbob:

You are looking for something that’s not there. And you’re being incredibly foolish what with that comment about being in Canada.

Actually I served a year with the 213th ASH Co, 1st Avn Brigade, Phu loi RVN 71-72. Thank you very much.
Idiot.

Reeder: How long do you give the vunderkid before he asks what branch I served in?

Monty…I think you embarrassed him right out of here.

Reeder:

Are you saying he’s…you knew this was coming…a coward?

Well, drat. What fun is that when someone doesn’t stick around for enlightenment we ex-military types could give 'em. Think of all the fun we could have with baseless speculation on exactly what his medical disqualification was!

Anyway, I can think of two groups right off the bat who are opposed to war, no matter what. And not a one of the people I know in either group is a coward. Perhaps there are some cowards in those groups; I just don’t know any of the cowards.

Monty & Reeder, maybe bob was trying to point out a funny and unfortunate coincidence?

The snide comment to Reeder about his supposed stay in Canada proves that’s not the case, Jeff.

Not necessarily, maybe he’s jus easily offended. Of course, we won’t know for sure unless he returns to the thread.

Twelve years active duty Navy. Color me yellow also.

I coulda sworn all them yellow ribbons around here were in support of the war … especially the ones on the police cars and around college campuses and on pins and such. At least, that’s the point I thought the OP was going to make.

vunderbob, here is some pie for you for when you come back, so you don’t have to hunt any down. It’s tough enough eating humble pie for ten people without having to carry it uphill both ways;)

The OP also kinda misses the point that black on yellow is about the most visible contrasting color scheme. Or are all those road signs indicating cowardice?

Seems as all the folks except Jeff are saying that the color ‘yellow’ was never to their knowledge used to indicate a lack of courage.

All you old timers used to go up to Army men who were wearing a 1st Cav patch on their ‘right’ shoulder and said. “The horse that was never rode, the line that was not held and the color tells you why.” And much fun and buddy , buddy feeling was commenced. Bawhahahaha

It was very obvious that the main thrust was the unfortunate choice of the color yellow for the back ground and that was what the OP was about.

YMMV :::::: snicker ::::::

Reeder miss read IMO, Monty piled on and down the slope it went… heck, the OP even pointed out the color yellow was his poiont, not that those particular people were cowards. ::: sheesh ::: Teh miss understandings I see on the SDMB by the speed readers and speed typist boggles the mind. Spring loaded to take the worst possible interpertation of ANY post is the name of the game.

Ease up folks…

I believe I understood his point very well. The color yellow being used by someone who is against the war and this person who is against the war is obviously a coward, hence the the “appropriateness” of the color. Fuck Him.

GusNSpot, it must be a terrible burden upon you to be The Voice of Reason in pit threads. Prithee tell, good sir, whatever would you do if you were ever shown to be wrong?

Or hence the combination being “unfortunate”. I think y’all need to stop jumping to conclusions until proven otherwise.

GunsNSpot, perhaps you should reread the OP.

(bolding mine)

And for the love of GunsNGrammar, get thee to a Little Red Schoolhouse…(who is this Miss Read I keep hearing about, and is she in any way related to Miss Understanding??)

I think it is “unfortunate” that “appropriate” was not being picked up on by the the folks who think I was being too harsh.
