I mean, they’d kind of have to. The Army does have service animals. Nowadays, I imagine that’s mostly guard dogs, but I think there are still some ceremonial cavalry, too, and of course, there used to be real cavalry.
Not something most people want to think about, but the military does use some animals for various testing purposes as well as what has already been listed.
However, the memo reviewed by Military.com noted that the renaming was being done so that there is “alignment with president and SECDEF objectives and SECNAV priorities of reestablishing the warrior culture,” apparently referencing President Donald Trump, Hegseth and Phelan.
