I donno. If people are getting sick from it, it sounds like something much more than a prank.
Who wants to bet the shady-sounding “online distributor” was Amazon?
Sorry, I worded that badly - I didn’t mean he thought it was just a prank. He sounds psychotic.
Sounds like mass psychogenic disorder, though such deleterious symptoms are unpleasant whatever the etiology.
It could very well be, but the problem is that this happened not once but over a month-long period.
Two MAGA guys showed up at Tennessee State University (a historically black college) and set up a table with signs to “debate” DEI and immigration. Events turned out exactly as they hoped. Well, maybe not exactly. I’m sure they were hoping to provoke actual violence. What fucking assholes.
Not sure whether this counts as “evil” or just “really fucking stupid” but I don’t think we have a “really fucking stupid MFs in the news thread” that isn’t about politics or guns so I’ll put it here.
The idea is that if the battery is going into meltdown and about to catch fire, the car will launch it away from the vehicle (warp core ejection style).
As virtually everyone who has seen this has noted, this means that anyone and anything to the right of the car will be in the path of a large, extremely heavy, fast-moving, and about-to-be-on-fire projectile, so good luck to any pedestrians, other road users, and/or buildings in the way.
I think I see the fatal flaw in this battery ejection thing.
Once shot out into some school during recess period, flaming and toxic… the car has just lost its power source so cannot make a quick getaway.
So there is a fairly good chance the owner won’t be able to escape the consequences, and thus the owner will not be available to be a repeat customer for the length of their prison sentence.
They’ve basically invented the rectangular mortar.
You see them bring screwdrivers as weapons
Man, that is a deep cut, racist, callback.
Additionally, early reports suggested that the teenagers had approached Goetz carrying “sharpened” screwdrivers; those reports, too, were found to be false: The screwdrivers—Cabey carried two and Ramseur carried one—were not sharpened and, based on the available testimony, were not removed from Cabey’s or Ramseur’s pockets—no witnesses reported seeing screwdrivers, and Goetz repeatedly denied he was threatened with them. When Canty testified at Goetz’s criminal trial, he said they were to be used to break into video arcade change boxes and not as weapons.
The guy with the poop spray could have been more resourceful. I’ve got some similarly odious ideas in mind that would narrow down the target and leave less trace for authorities.
Shaxs: I kinda said we should eject the warp core.
Freeman: Oh, that’s what he always suggests… gasp And it’s brilliant!
I lost track a few series ago, did they ever show a succesful warp core ejection?
Because I can just imagine the battery popping halfway out and getting stuck. Or you try ejecting but it just so happens there’s a telephone pole or jerseywall right there so you get propelled into the other lane.
In the original JJ Abrams Star Trek film (which was in the Kelvin timeline, not the standard continuity), they used warp core ejections and detonations to boost themselves out of a black hole’s gravitational pull. (Note this wasn’t a singular warp core, but multiple warp cores; I guess in that reality they have multiple cores that work in tandem.)
And in the normal timeline, in the film Star Trek: Insurrection, they ejected a warp core from the Enterprise to seal a subspace tear (and it worked).
But most of the time in various stories the warp core ejection itself fails to happen for whatever reason, or if it does happen, it doesn’t fix the issue.
The preview doesn’t make it clear that at least one of them entered the house to do this:
One of the two men charged is accused of entering the home and tossing in a clear plastic bag of pork against an interior wall, splattering the contents there and on the floor, university police said.
They were charged with “burglary as a hate crime and criminal nuisance”
Seems about right. It was an obvious hate crime given the circumstances. It’s like burning a cross and leaving a noose in front of a Black fraternity as a “prank”. I’m glad it’s being taken seriously.
Vigilante admits killinng is fun for him.
Of course the comments section on that article is filled with congratulations for the killer.
I can think of somebody else in this scenario who deserves to die. Psychopathic vigilantes get zero concern in my world. They get full due process, but after a legit verdict that comes back “guilty”, put 'em down.
Maybe they deserve to be ‘put down’, but that would be wrong. The State killing people is oogy. [/end hijack]
