Why do they have to? His problem, not theirs.
Because they want their shipbuilders working instead of doing part of the job and having the rest of the work done somewhere else in the world, that doesn’t have a fancy decommissioned bridge in the way.
Wow. Wouldn’t it be easier to modify the yacht? Fill the hold with ballast, remove masts/antennas, etc.? Or would it still be too big?
You’re not thinking like a billionaire who’s able to single-handedly destroy a nation’s economy.
Obviously, they bill him for this, right?
Under a billion can be paid from Jeff’s cigar box with “Petty Cash” scrawled on the lid.
Yes. The article says that he is paying for it.
I also heard that Amazon may be raising its price for Prime membership very soon, so …
It says the company that’s building the ship is paying for it. One might presume the cost is baked into the price he’s paying for it.
Sort of feels like the Stupid MFers here may in fact be the people who built a “massive yacht” factory upstream of a historic bridge under which massive yachts cannot sail.
“So, our business plan is simple: we will make absurdly expensive yachts and sell them to billionaires as status symbols. And the beauty is that for every yacht we sell the next one must be bigger, better and more expensive otherwise it wouldn’t be a status symbol.”
“Sounds great. Any potential hitches?”
“Well, between the shipyard we build the yachts in and the rest of the world there lies a historic bridge, which implies a maximum height for all our yachts - otherwise we’d have to dismantle the bridge at vast expense every time we built one!”
“Will that be a big problem?”
“No, I don’t think so. I’m sure the trend for each yacht being progressively bigger will level out at some point, and most likely before we reach our maximum height”
“Yes, that seems entirely plausible, and is no way contradicted by the very essence of the market we are in. Trebles all round!”
Not exactly news but definitely some stupid MFers here:
As an American, I was deeply confused by that video until I read through the comments. Is carjacking by that method so common in Chile that the driver immediately knew what was happening? It would have never occurred to me in those few seconds that it might be a theft.

So, this is just silly, probably a manufactured bit of nothing-outrage against Bezos, and I say that as no fan of Bezos. By the way, I’m not knocking Stan’s (maybe imaginary, maybe not) conversation. I’m wondering if anyone interviewed the yacht builder about their plans.
It’s not like superstructure is involved - masts can be stepped and rigged elsewhere.
And anyway, in the news today; Rotterdam says that no bridge-dismantling permit has been applied for.
Dan
I mean, really there are three options:
To explain why the masts couldn’t just be installed elsewhere, a representative of the boat builder said, “If you carry out a big job somewhere, you want all your tools in that place. Otherwise you have to go back and forth constantly. In addition, this is such a large project that there are hardly any locations where this work is finished.” (Incidentally, that article has some nice photos of the yacht in dry dock.)
As the loser brigade boogies on…
Ah, yellow vesters (no, not the police in the photo) are there, just like their doofus soulmates in Paris. Hoping BC’ll be above this dumb, childish “waaah you’re not the boss of me!” bullshit.
I’ve not been following this Canadian truck driver story closely. I did see a news segment a day or two ago which had a person describe this as one of the great uprisings of our time and the media isn’t covering it. Well the fact you are on the news and able to say this unfiltered means the media is covering it and is it really an uprising when something 90% of drivers are vaccinated and the people being most disturbed by all this are the locals who are being harassed.
I don’t think that’s how you’re supposed to control pests. Unless you’re part of Monty Python.
