Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 1)

So all else being the same, more extrajudicial violence is good. Gotcha.

I don’t think anybody wants more extrajudicial violence. But the current system of preferentially protecting wealthy and middle-class white malefactors from the same sort of experience of extrajudicial violence that less fortunate malefactors get is clearly not working very well to reduce or eliminate extrajudicial violence.

If the only way to get rid of prison rape is to have middle-class white criminals legit worried that it could realistically happen to them, well, that’s bad, but it beats the current situation of not getting rid of prison rape because many middle-class white criminals don’t have to be too worried about it.

these morons…
https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/other/texas-nurse-on-her-viral-video-of-mcdonald-s-sign-reading-no-one-wants-to-work-anymore/vi-BB1fMB7M?ocid=SK2DDHP

That is kind of disorienting – it is FoxNews, hosted by MSN. It is not msnbc, but the “msn” lends some confusion.

Why didn’t you say “this moron”? She doesn’t seem to have an idea on how unemployment payments are administered, nor does she seem to know that “not wanting to work” does not qualify one for unemployment.

So she’s got a video about some random sign put up by someone who cannot know the sign they’ve posted is accurate and the nurse’s video is on a network that is not exactly reliable for news.

Or are you referring to her and the person who posted the sign as the morons?

Alternative suggestion… The video is on Fox News so the statement could also apply to them.

i was calling the nurse and whoever at McD’s morons … but you could add faux news for gleefully cackling as they aired it… since it fits their viewpoints …

Yep. They were really into that. Sorry I didn’t catch your intent.

Interesting graphic on the topic, though – from FiveThirtyEight:

Geesh loueesh, that graphic is basically a schematic of which employment sectors in the US are most grossly underpaid, isn’t it?

“Here’s a modest temporary stipend to compensate for your earnings loss during a catastrophic pandemic and economic crisis. It’s about three-quarters of what you were earning in your management job, or a little bit more than we paid you as a teacher, but one and a half times as much as we paid you for cleaning offices and scrubbing toilets, and nearly TWICE as much as you earned for the essential service of providing food to people so they don’t fucking starve! Aren’t you grateful to us, you filthy low-life peasant?”

That’s exactly how I read it, too!

Please notice that per the 538 chart, food service and janitorial already made more on unemployment than their salary before the Cares act, further proving Ms. Logan, the creator of the sign, and Faux News are all full of excrement.

I was in the middle of three somethings when I posted that, but wanted to get it into the fray.

My reaction was the same.

I was (as I am far too often) reminded of Barbara Bush, after hurricane Katrina, on finding out that many of the poorest diaspora were being temporarily housed on cruise ships and in the Houston Astrodome, saying

And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this, this is working very well for them.

I should clarify that I’m not accusing FiveThirtyEight in particular of trying to send that condescending message.

It’s just the sight of so many people being outraged! that some of the lowest-paid workers are actually better off on emergency relief measures than in their regular essential-worker jobs—and not outraged that those jobs are so low-paying, mind you, but outraged that the exploited peasants are actually temporarily managing to catch a break for once, how dare they!—that smacks my gob.

Did they? I read that as those workers getting about 50% of their salary on unemployment without the CARES Act.

Agreed, the grey dots are the pre-CARES unemployment info for each sector. Food Service was getting a hair over 50% before CARES, everyone was getting about half or less.

Don’t be fooled by the points of the arrows, I think those are just meant to indicate growth of benefits. On each line they are placed equidistant from the pre-CARES and post-CARES benefit levels.

Looking at it again, you’re probably right. I thought that arrow in the middle was the pre/post. Never mind.

" (CNN)A suspected poacher was trampled to death by a herd of elephants in South Africa’s Kruger National Park on Saturday, according to a statement by South African National Parks published Sunday.
Three suspected poachers were attempting to flee Kruger National Park rangers when they ran into a breeding herd of elephants, the statement said."
