Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 1)

People who say they welcome people with differing opinions seldom really do.

Playing Devil’s advocate, it might have happened, though again we just have her word right now. Here is what I gather…

  1. She had a speech or something in a room that could accommodate 75 people and it was mostly peaceful.

  2. She got to a Q&A portion and things got rowdy. Also, there were a ton of protesters outside who couldn’t fit in the room.

  3. She was scared of the protesters and barricaded herself in the room until the police escort showed up, which took hours.

So it’s possible that something happened during/after the Q&A that got physical, and I don’t think police were there yet. So it might not have been witnessed by them. But you’re correct that if it wasn’t anything that left a mark, it probably wasn’t serious.

Anyway, the right is trying to turn this into an anti-trans/anti-woke/anti-people-they-don’t-like story, and are exaggerating it. The cops did call the protest unlawful and cleared folks out, so there’s evidence things did get out of hand, but they’re really trying to spin a victimhood story about a bigot who just happens to hate the people the right hates, so she must be held up as a warrior for women’s rights or whatever. Typical right wing bullshit.

AIUI, from radio news reports local to the area, this was caught on at least one security camera:

…her five-year-old child while in a Morris hotel hallway.

Kahler, 31, has been charged with aggravated battery to a child and two counts of domestic battery.

I’m getting tired of these motherfucking bigots in this motherfucking country.

yes

Just a point, even if it doesn’t leave a mark, it can still be assault.

technically, “assault” means getting up in somebody’s face, with no actual physical contact required

Mommy, Jeffies assaulting me!!!

Criminal prosecution usually require evidence. Videos, witnesses, etc. Not someone claiming they were attacked. There’s a reason that photographs of injuries are not uncommon pieces of evidence.

Does the locale where this inanity happened happen to have a “stand your ground” law?

It was San Francisco.

I bet you never expected the Spanish Inqu… scratch that, the Dalai Lama to jump into this thread, but I guess he asked some kid to suck on his tongue!?!

" In the video, the young boy can be seen approaching the Nobel Peace Prize winner before asking, “Can I hug you?”
The 87-year-old spiritual leader then invites the boy on stage and points to his cheek and says, “first here,” prompting the boy to give him a hug and a kiss.
The Dalai Lama then points to his lips, and says: “then I think finally here also.” He then pulls the boy’s chin and kisses him on the mouth.
“And suck my tongue,” he says after a few seconds, poking his tongue out. "

I’ve always thought that the Dalai Lama was a bit kooky (a laughing fool), but this reads like senility is also kicking in.

Linked that to the Omnibus Religious Fucks in the News thread.

My money would be on “getting senile” rather than “secret pedophile”.

The good Lama might be thinking about how lucky Jesus was, being killed before he got old enough to ask kids to suck his tongue.

So, a preemptive cancelling?

I know there’s a SDMB death pool. If there IS an Omnibus Stupid MFers pool, I’d be damned interested to know who, if anybody, saw THIS one coming

Agreed.

Is there any cultural significance to that we might be missing? I mean is that less weird in his culture? I’ve always kind of liked the guy, not sure what to make of this beyond senility.
