Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 1)

Should be “sues” not “uses.”

School superintendent doesn’t care about students (my title):

At Gateway Elementary School in March, Witt told staff members he prioritized academic achievement, not students’ emotions. “We are not the department of health and human services,” he said, as teachers angrily objected, according to two recordings of the meeting made by staff members and shared with NBC News.

More interesting* reading at that link.

*not a compliment

NOW the conservatives are concerned?

Honestly, I think it’s more blathering, “We’ll focus on this but still do nothing about it”. Just blather.

This stupid MFer has wasted three decades of his life looking for the Loch Ness Monster.

That’s a thing I always wanted to be true.

Many years ago, I was in a writing workshop and did a fairly narrowly tailored (ie, inch wide, mile deep) paper about Buddhist monks.

I was interviewing a monk who taught – interestingly – at a prestigious, local Catholic university. She was telling me about Buddhist hermits who live in near total solitude, isolation, and contemplation.

I remember saying to the monk that, it struck me, these hermits “weren’t part of the solution.”

“Maybe not,” she replied, “but they aren’t part of the problem either.”

“Twenty-four miles by one short mile, and a hundred fathoms deep,
Jagged rock at the bottom of the loch, and the water’s thick with peat.
We set out bait and our cameras wait,
But to our immense distress:
We can’t find, we can’t find, we can’t find, we can’t find,
We can’t find, the creature in Loch Ness.”
– Dr Jane Robinson

Should be cued up to the right spot, otherwise skip to 55:50.

ETA: Note the date that was recorded; years before this guy started his own search for Nessie, and people had already been looking for decades before that.

Some jerk decided to play a Hitler speech over a train intercom in Austria. Not clever and certainly not funny. Just brain-dead people either trying to be “edgy” or showing their true colors.

“In Austria, the technical problem is Hitler.”

Yeah, that is a good line.

Woman cries and calls for help as she tries to take the rental bike someone else has paid for (she also grabs his phone)

While the video doesn’t show the young man touching her, it does show the woman remove her hospital badge before grabbing the young man’s phone. He immediately reaches for it and demands she return it — which is when the woman tells him he’s hurting her fetus.

“My unborn child," she yells.

“I’m not touching you," the unidentified man replied.

Eventually, a man also in scrubs inquired what was wrong. That’s when the woman suddenly appeared to begin sobbing.

The other man in scrubs tells the woman to choose another bike, and she calmly removed herself.

and her fetus. Can’t forget that.

How could I forget that?!?

I didn’t know Buddhist monks could be female. Is that a recent thing?

I think “monastic” is the gender-neutral term for monks and nuns. I used the term “monk” to describe monastics, generically. It was probably the wrong word to use.

Looks like she’s a nun:

Okay, this is freaking uncanny.

I hope I’m not the only one who saw that.

Montana. Why did it have to be Montana?
https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/17/tech/montana-governor-tiktok/index.html

Gianforte tweeted that he has banned TikTok in Montana “to protect Montanans’ personal and private data from the Chinese Communist Party,” officially making it the first state to ban the social media application.

The bill, which will take effect in January, specifically names TikTok as its target, prohibiting the app from operating within state lines. The law also outlines potential fines of $10,000 per day for violators, including app stores found to host the social media application.

Next, he will travel to one of the coasts and ban the tide from coming in.
