Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 1)

Even with an account, that tends to be true these days.

True dat, which is why I have no account.

The breaking news Ukraine thread often references Twitter posts; usually presumably from Twitter posters who the SDMB posters thought were at least somewhat reliable. I had often been reading those.

Jeff Tiedrich also has an account at Post News so you could probably find it crossposted there, or get the link for his newsletter. I don’t know if you can read stuff at Post News without an account, but it’s free and easy to make an account there.

ETA: I’m Janicket the So-So there, but all I do is post photographs now and then.

That is the major reason I hang out there. Of course, the bastardization of the blue checks by the keto-addicted bastard has greatly reduced the usefulness of Twitter as a source of reliable breaking news.

I still keep on at Twitter, but only to follow a few folks, like Larry the Cat, Jorts (and Jean), Stonekettle Station. Kingfisher and Wombat, mostly nonpolitical since the trolls and bots tend to swarm anyone the reichwing hates.

Thanks! I do still get his newsletter. :slightly_smiling_face:

Sounds like an Australian vaudeville act.

Mild in the context of this thread, but can an IT department act stupider?

As an IT person myself this cracks me up and makes me mad. Come on now.

We do have a static “new employee” password that requires you to change it as soon as you log in (and it’s only for brand new staff on their first day), but that’s nothing close to this.

And the article is absolutely correct here:

Needless to say, giving everyone the same password is not how an organization should force a password reset. The usual procedure is to force log out every user, and then prompt them to change their password the next time they try to log in.

We had a situation not long ago where our entire network was compromised and that’s how it was handled. You were forced to change your password on next login.

I’m an IT guy myself, so I hear you.

Stupid Qanon mfer who made up a story about an attempted kidnapping gets (minor) prison time:

I remember this story from when it happened, but it doesn’t seem to have been discussed here on the SDMB.

I hope this leaves room for the Latino couple to sue her for damages. I can only imagine what they went through, being accused by her, by name, on the internet and in press interviews?

It’s awful and I hate these fucking people that exploit their children for profit. This one wasn’t content to fuck with only their children’s lives, she had to hurt this innocent couple too.

I don’t even get the impression that she did what she did solely due to racism, I think it was just to draw attention as a social media influencer. She targeted a Latino couple because it would get more attention. (Which, yes, is racist.)

I do hope that she gets sued.

15 minutes of fame = 90 days in jail.

I suspect that the number of people who would do that deal numbers in the 6 figures at least.

To be worn on the outside?

When this story first broke, I predicted that the school district would hear, either directly or via the media, from Dolly herself. To the best of my knowledge, that hasn’t happened.

ETA, now that I see the preview, I should explain. The teacher was relieved of her duties after criticizing the school for banning a Dolly Parton song…almost certainly for no reason other than that the title has the word Rainbow in it.

Cancel culture. Oh wait, that was the other side!
