They are banned from playing this year. Probably not happy with that.
So, just an act of national petulance? I guess I can see that.
One of the most watched events, of course, is the Olympics. Paris has made some odd choices for it.
> But flying the Olympic flag upside down is an interesting one.
They are just signaling their dark Lord Satan.
Foolish of France to condone such a thing. They should have had someone dressed up as Mohammed instead. I mean, if they really wanted to set off the religious, no half measures.
The French have a… complicated relationship with Christianity.
Oh no! A parody of the last supper? Nobody has ever done that before!
I have no idea which (if any) thread this one should go in:
According to Tustin police, Johnson got out of his car and pointed a firearm at the victim’s face while demanding his belongings.
The off-duty agent then fired at the men with his gun, police said, striking Bell.
The suspects then allegedly fled with the victim’s bag. Police later found some of the victim’s belongings nearby.
How NOT to pick up a fallen kneeboarder by BACKING the boat up.
I just hope it was quick so the child didn’t suffer in pain and terror.
And what do you know? (The link goes to Yahoo.)
The Dutch Olympic team have explicitly admitted that they are shielding Steven van de Velde, the beach volleyball player who made his Games debut here on Sunday despite being convicted of raping a 12-year-old British girl when he was 19, from talking publicly about his past.
Reading the rest of the article, ISTM, van de Velde is violating some legal restrictions. But, hey, he’s promised to be a good role model, as the covenant all Olympic athletes must sign requires.
Good job, Netherlands!
A 17-year-old in Nebraska has been charged with deliberately derailing a freight train so he could film the crash for Youtube.
Not only YouTube. He also sent it to all the local news outlets. Here’s a news clip showing the train hitting the coal car standing empty on the track. (I don’t know how to edit the clip-it segues into the next story)
This is in my home county, less than 20 miles from me. A tiny town, gravel side streets, the rail yard grain silos the tallest things for…well, 20 miles. In this ag state, messing with the railroad is akin to stealing a horse in the Wild West. The hammer of justice is going to land hard on that teen. It was a Burlington Northern train. Stupid doesn’t begin to cover it-stupid and doomed is more like it. At least they didn’t summarily hang him from the nearest cottonwood like in the old days.
More from the Olympics opening ceremony (or should I call it opening disaster?)! (The link goes to Yahoo.)
Olympic committee calls South Korean president after labelling country North Korea in ceremony
As millions of spectators around the world watched the South Koreans float down a river in a barge and wave their flag, an audio broadcast said they were from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. That is the official name of North Korea and the South’s arch-enemy.
Good job, Paris!
Speaking of gaffes at the Olympics…
Eurosport announcer Bob Ballard said on air that
the women swimmers were “finishing up” and “you know what women are like… hanging around, doing their make-up.”
That’s idiotic.
I’m thinking that forgetting your Holy Book doesn’t contain trident-wielding blue god’s is far more offensive to the religiously-minded than whatever happens at the Olympics, but that’s just me.
To what is this a reference?
Just goes to show, it’s not just Americans who are not paying attention.
