Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 2)

I am a long-time Washington State resident. Yakima is a place you might drive through on occasion.

Only if I absolutely have to get east, and I-84, I-90 and US-2 have all been bombed out.

Bawn ‘n’ bred Washatonian, and I have the webbed feet to prove it.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but this seems rather stupid to me.

And, I have to ask: Why?

That headline immediately popped into my head the concept of someone enjoying a “bologna and drugs sandwich”.

It’s been a while since I’ve had bologna. Maybe if it was laced with drugs I’d give it a shot.

Weird Al don’t need no drugs.

Regarding the bologna, it is because immigrants often want it to be the old familiar brand from the old country. Doesn’t matter if better quality is available here.

From the article

Mexican Bologna is illegal in the United States because it’s made from pork and could introduce a disease to the pork industry.

I believe it’s generally illegal to bring food into the US, for exactly this reason.

ETA

Many agriculture products are prohibited entry into the United States from certain countries because they may carry plant pests and foreign animal diseases.

Here’s a youtube video I saw a few years ago that touches on it being illegal and what they do with it after it’s found (at least at this specific airport). Come to think of it, a relative of mine had some food items (sausage, maybe) confiscated when she was flying back to the US (from Japan or Australia IIRC).

Okay, does Rosa Kolwalski count as a stupid mf?

She’s also his vice president!

It could be worse. The US arrested a bunch of dead paddlefish:

Then later had to dispose of the meat thereof at auction:

Just want to say that Paddlefish are some of the yummiest fish I’ve ever tasted.

When I lived almost on the banks of the Mississippi I’ve certainly tasted fresh river catfish and loved it. I’d never encountered the term “paddlefish” except in those articles.

I may need a field trip back to paddlefish country to get some.

In my native country, Zimbabwe, catfish are “catch and release” - I know in some areas they are eaten, but … no. When you can get bream or tigers in the same water, who would eat catfish?

Fried catfish with a good remoulade is fantastic. Folks in the SE part of the US have figured out how to make it delicious.

The word you are looking for is “semi-edible.”

No, if you’ve never had good catfish you’ve never eaten at a restaurant that knows how to cook it.

Agree w @Atamasama that you’re probably under-informed.

Catfish can be watery and “loose” for lack of a better word. Which gives it an uncomfortable mouthfeel more like a (very) thick version of raw oysters than an ordinary whitefish filet.

If you’ve had that experience you’ve had bad catfish badly prepared.

Well, I dislike to actively loathe all fresh water fish anyway, so catfish is just one more of the list. I might eat it if the alternative was starvation. Might.

Of course, my Personalized Modular Food Storage Unit means I could survive for years just on backup supplies! :stuck_out_tongue:

Of “catch it yourself to eat” fish catfish is my favorite. It still reminds me of fishing with my maternal grandparents.
