Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 2)

I haven’t seen that, but this latest discussion is reminding me of Escape At Dannemora.

Billboard magazine put together a video tribute to Taylor Swift to celebrate her being one of the top musical acts of this century.

It inclided a clip from a Kanye West video depicting a nude wax sculpture of her.

Sounds like it might be useful corrections officer training too. But might be a bit beyond the state’s (or worse yet private correction company’s) level of give-a-shit, or the officer trainees’ own levels of self awareness and ability to think & write.

You’re dealing with smart motivated people. Those other employers, often less so.

I’m tempted to say it was coming out of the ocean.

Or maybe a single-cell organism dividing in such a way that it created differentiated cells.

Oh, subornation of staff is a big topic in training of officers and civilian prison workers, at least in my state, which has no private prisons (WI). With yearly mandatory refreshers on the topic. The more this topic is covered, the fewer such incidents. But reducing them to zero seems beyond the ability of the training.

Had a relative who was a prison guard. He said the personalities of the guards and the prisoners were almost identical.

I’d like to think that part of the Fireball Gifting was the guard thinking “Damn, if I were in here I’d sure want a shot of cinnamon and alcohol once in a while. And Jimbo here’s a good dude, and willing to pay me for it…”

My wife was a prison guard for two weeks. She said most of the guards they hired (in Tennessee) did not even graduate high school. She said that the ‘good’ guards eventually wanted to become cops.

Carnival Cruises has banned passengers from displaying upside-down pineapples on their cabin doors after learning that they were being used as code for being open to swinging.

That also sounds a lot like the MO of many child sex predators.

I don’t really get this. If it’s within the rules, then it’s not a favor, at least IMHO. How am I wrong on that?

Something can be allowed by the rules, but not required by the rules - i.e. up to the guard’s discretion. That would be a favor.

What @Andy_L said. Historically some prisons have tried to run by the principle of “that which is not required is forbidden” but that seldom works very well.

Please explain who or what you think is stupid here.

…everyone involved? Advertising that you’re cruising for anonymous sex in an anarcho-capitalist floating hotel where very few laws apply doesn’t seem like the wisest course of action, and Carnival making a public announcement that they’re cracking down only draws attention to it and creates the perception that they’re “the sex cruise”.

Also, an upside-down pineapple is an inherently stupid way of trying to say you’re down to clown.

What’s funny is the pineapple code is known on every cruise line by anyone paying the slightest attention.

Carnival has selected an especially stupid windmill with which to tilt. The outcome will be no change in swinging, but lots of laughing stock publicity for Carnival.

And just to think, pineapple upside down cake is one of my favorite desserts.

Have I been putting out the wrong signals all these years?!

My wife and I took an MSC cruise a few months back, and we didn’t see a single pineapple on the entire ship, no matter how hard we looked.

…I mean, I’m not saying we would have done anything, but it’s nice to have options.

I’ve never been on a cruise, but I imagine I could spend a week on a ship and remain clueless to any inverted-fruit-based signals.

My mum makes a excellent pineapple upside down cake: Pineapple Upside Down Cake ( her recipe differs, but that is close )

I am reasonably sure she is not a swinger, but I hope I never know.

Edit: re, “inverted fruit”

I was on a cruise once. I didn’t notice any upside down pineapples on doors. It’s a good thing too because I’d have just thought it looked cool and followed suit completely unaware of the signal I was sending.
