Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 2)

Now watch that become the next “challenge trend” on the socials…

I just find it ironic that her last name is literally “censor I”.

Would be … interesting.

Well, of course. They don’t call her “Censori” for nothing.

To me, her expression doesn’t look bland. I wasn’t kidding when I said she looks like a hostage to me. Or maybe an abused woman, like she’s trying to look ok when she is actually afraid she will screw up.
I just watched some video. I still think she was at least an unwilling participant

I think you’re right. Considering Kanye’s history and known mental problems I wouldn’t be surprised if this stunt (along with their entire marriage) is part of some sick effort on his part to get back at Kim for leaving him.

Forget where I stole this from: Climate change is the opposite of Kanye West; we know we should be paying attention to it, but we still don’t.

ETA: @Zyada 3 posts up.

She’s a grown-up. Perhaps one with confused thinking or ego problems. She jumped into that probably-toxic pool of her own volition.

I can readily see her as somebody making a foolish mistake. I have a hard time seeing her as a victim.

There have been a lot of women and men who didn’t realize how toxic the pool was until they were already in it. Narcissists are especially good at convincing others that their reputation caused by gossip spread by people who hate them rather than their own actions.

Agree completely with the first sentence.

Do not understand the second sentence at all. Seems like maybe a couple words got skipped. That sure happens sometimes when I’m posting

I think they mean that narcissists are really good at persuading people that any bad press is due to envy or dislike, not their own toxic crap.

See for example Donald Trump and his imaginary army of “haters and losers trying to make me look bad”.

He’s right that there’s an army of people who hate him most thoroughly.

He’s quite wrong about why. And whether he or they are the loser in the moral equation.

And yet there are plenty of people who believe him

It was optimistic to believe only one is born every minute

Well, that was said when the population was much smaller. I wonder what the comparable rate would be now?

Turns out that quote is probably apocryphal. But is definitely dates from at least the 1800s if not before. See There’s a sucker born every minute - Wikipedia.

If we assume it applies only to the USA, and further that it dates from 1800 (see wiki cite above) the US population then was roughly 5M. And is now ~340M, so call it ~60x as large.

So with a bit of poetic license to cover for creative rounding, the current phrase ought to be “There’s a sucker born every second.”

I especially like the aside in the wiki article that an early form of the saying was “a sucker born every minute, and two more to con him.” The point being that dishonest conmen are even more common than dumb marks.

These days, the Republican party seems to be living by W. C. Fields’ codicil, “It is morally wrong to allow a sucker to keep his money.”

I’m not sure if I got the full flavor of what you meant. An adult can be a victim, even if they entered into something as a foolish mistake, ostensibly of their own volition.

Have you met any babies? They’re all suckers.
