Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 2)

Time travelers?

I guess I am a stupid MFer for putting that classic line in there where it did not really fit. I am unusually fond of it and need to refrain from using it.

Wait, don’t you have the chipper housewife neighbor who drops into your kitchen’s sunny breakfast nook with her grocery bag brimming with a baguette, carrots (with long leafy tops), and a family-size bottle of whatever cleaning product you obviously need right now?

Them? They can’t cross my threshold without my invitation, which I of course never give.

Vegemite war breaks out in Canada, Australians outraged.

I still have about half of a 2.5 kg pail of Vegemite.

Same here. I’m also stocked up on NZ marmite, and english marmite. Wish I could get some more cenovis from Switzerland.

Trump’s looking for ways to deport US citizens.

Did someone post it here or did I read somewhere else that the Maryland man that Trump ‘accidentally’ deported is likely a test case. As long as that guy is still in a jail in El Salvador, Trump has proven he can deport anyone he wants and no one’s going to do anything about it.

Even if that person wasn’t selected for the purpose of being a test case, he’s become one now.

It’s his usual MO. He’s tossing out ideas and seeing what gets traction. We ignore or forget all the ones that don’t.

Don’t mistake that for a coherent strategy (at least on his part). He makes up for a lack of quality of thinking with quantity. Throw enough shit at the wall and something is eventually bound to stick.

Sort of. The guy in El Salvador was not a US citizen, but there was a court order to not deport him, and in doing so and then refusing to try to get him back is defying the court. So while not the same thing, it’s “defying the courts to illegally deport someone” which is a step in that direction at the very least.

On my way home today, listening to NPR, they were talking to a legal expert about the situation (some law professor from the University of Washington, this was one of the local NPR shows). He said that what’s happening right now with this El Salvador case is that Trump’s lawyers are coming up with one lame excuse after another to try to delay getting the guy back, but they weren’t quite at the stage of totally defying the courts yet. They are getting to the “shit or get off the pot” stage (my words, not his) where they are either going to absolutely try to defy the courts, probably leading to a constitutional crisis, or back down and comply. We aren’t sure yet what they will do.

He also said that Marco Rubio is caught in the middle with this, with the courts telling him he has to do one thing and Trump telling him to do the opposite, and he said that if he could give him any advice, it was to seek independent legal counsel. Get his own lawyers (not Trump ones) and get good ones (again, not Trump ones). Because Rubio may find himself in personal legal jeopardy over this.

The show host asked the law professor if this was a five alarm fire, and he said no, this was more of a three alarm fire (these are the actual terms they used) but we are getting close to this being a five alarm fire. People should absolutely be concerned about what will happen if Trump doesn’t back down.

Looks like I have something to look forward to on my three-hour commute home to Birch Bay. 22 minutes until I clock out…

Which is what I got called naive for saying just yesterday. Le sigh.

Back to stupid MFers

Police were called to a laundromat near Hartwell and Broadway on Dec. 24, 2024. According to a criminal complaint, the owner said he was watching security video and saw two people “engaging in sexual intercourse” under a blanket “in full view of the camera.”

Also him:

It always seemed to me like Vegemite is a tad too salty, while Marmite has an unpleasant sliminess to it. Then I discovered a domestic product called Better Than Bullion (the vegetable soup base) that is an excellent substitute.

Is Waukesha some deeply fucked up place? I’m not sure I could find it on a map, but just off the top of my head it’s featured the Slender Man case, the SUV parade murderer and most recently the teen who allegedly plotted to kill Trump to ‘save the white race.’ Ain’t visiting anytime soon.

It’s really not. It’s, overall, a pretty nice county. While I don’t think I ever really mentioned the Slender Man case, I wonder if you’re aware of the other incidents from my posts on this board. I know I posted the recent Trump assignation plot as well as the SUV Parade story and probably a few others.

My fave yeast spread is definitely Cenovis. Sadly it’s tough to get. To me, it combines the best of what I love about such products; the meaty flavor, the saltiness (but not too much), plus the roasted vegetable flavor one gets with a nice pot roast with carrot and onion medley.

Next fave is english Marmite. What you find slimy seems silky to me, and it’s less bitter than vegemite.

After that comes said vegemite, the first yeast spread I ever met, so a sentimental favorite. But it is a bit bitter, in my opinion. Even so I use it frequently in soups and stews and sauces.

I’ve also tried the New Zealand style Marmite, and find it has a sweetish tang to it that I find cloying. But I keep it on hand anyway, for completeness’ sake because that’s how I roll.

I’ve also tried knockoff brands like Aussie Mite and Mighty Mite, and they were meh.

We also stock a lot of varieties of Better Than Boullion in our household and they get used, but to me it just doesn’t have that same yeasty kick the way the abovementioned products do, despite containing yeast extract. Yet it is a great flavor enhancer.

And now I’ve rambled far too long about yeast extracts, for a thread entitled “Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 2)”. :slightly_smiling_face:

but we knew you would rise to the occasion
