If I remember my Mother Goose, there’s a shoe involved…
This stupid MFer is Samantha Fulnecky (the student, not the graduate teacher thrown under the bus for giving her the grade she deserved.)
Multiple officers have a man at gun point, proned out in a downtown Los Angeles intersection. Waymo decides to join in the fun.
Do Waymos really not know what to do when approaching an intersection with police lights in it? I assume they know to pull over when they see lights approaching from behind and they must know not to make a left turn when they see lights coming from ahead. The only thing I can think is that, since the lights were stationary, it just assumed it could go around them as if they were avoiding a car accident scene. And, to be fair, I’m not sure how the car would know the difference.
Related question, I know some (most?) Waymos have a steering wheel, but in the ones that don’t, is there a human, somewhere, that can drive it remotely? What happens when they inevitably find themselves in a situation that, for whatever reason, they don’t know how to get out of? My WAG is that it sends signal to someone that can take over. Is that the case?
I’m pretty sure that there’s no design that’s the least practical for a home for a million children.
Of course that’s a fail at what it’s intended to be… but it’s pretty compelling as surrealism.
Just about any fancy computer software can be labeled as “AI”. Most often nowadays it’s used to mean large language models (yes, the picture generators are also large language models), but there were plenty of other sorts before that, that are understood to various degrees. Of note, your reliable floor-plan generator was probably created to be a floor-plan generator. Most LLMs are created with no particular purpose in mind at all, and then it just turns out that there are some things they’re good at, anyway (often things completely unanticipated by their creators).
Maybe the guy on the ground called it for a ride?
Finding out what LLMs are actually good at will be ground out in the next few years I suppose. I haven’t figured it out yet, though I have spoken to people that say they have found utility in using them for various administrative tasks. Unfortunately being from completely different career streams, I failed to understand just what exactly they were doing with them.
I have found they are awesome at coming up with complicated Excel formulas. Formulas I wouldn’t have come up with in a year, it spits out in 30 seconds.
Just hope that last one doesn’t turn into a crush fetish in the future.
The two bath tubs and sinks in the “mudroom and laundry” (featuring Coat Closet!) had me howling. The room doesn’t actually have an exterior door, but imagining someone walking into that room is hilarious. I guess it’s useful for people with dirty jobs or muddy dogs or kids or something!
A mudroom is fairly common, and it’s often the same room as the laundry. It’s the room where you take off your muddy outerwear and clean it. But yes, in order for it to do its job, a mudroom must have an exterior door.
On the whole, I think it’s more serious that the house doesn’t have any exterior door than that it doesn’t have one in that particular room, though.
Bear in mind that a house with no way to get out also has no way to get in. We don’t have to worry about the difficulties of anyone living in that place, because nobody could get in to do so.
(Well, I suppose they could climb in and out of the windows.)
Back in school, we had an end of term chip design project to complete and, naturally, designing the smallest possible logic gates was desirable.
One of our team members designed the absolute smallest gates possible. Unfortunately, said team member designed them in such a way that the input lines were inaccessible, i.e. forget 0s and 1s - permanently open circuit. We ended up re-designing them.
AI: about as good as braindead college students. That ain’t bad!
Her story is all over the place now. Here she is explaining her use of “demonic”
Talk about word salad, holy shit. This woman is an idiot.
I also like her defense that she didn’t mean that trans people are demonic, just people who insist that trans people exist. So if you’re trans, just shut up about it I guess.
And she’s dealing with it by ignoring anyone who has anything negative to say and only listening to supporters. This is clearly an intellectually curious woman who wants a true education.
In honor of Samantha Full Stupidity Fulnecky I hereby pledge that every shit I take will be a shit that glorifies her god.
Oklahoma is like that.
It was bad when I lived a year there ~45 years ago. It’s gotten worse; a lot worse.
Am I the only person who can’t hear “Oklahoma” without busting into song? I played trombone in the pit orchestra and I must have “seen” that musical 60 times.
I always think of Louis Gossett Jr. in An Officer and a Gentleman.
Oklahoma, where the derp comes leaking out their brains…
